Oak's Seven Days

OOC: What happened during my time with the pixies, brownies, and sylphs?

Did I meet anyone interesting?

Did anyone need aid or gifts?

Did I find anything interesting to buy/barter/receive?

Did any of them decide to go on Tom's Quest?

=============

We'll detail things a bit more here....

You've exchanged songs and such with the Lady Morrigan, and had Tom teach you magic (except for the Spirit Fire which you get the feeling is not for you.) which took three days.

On the fourth day, you saw sylphs, and your shoe got repaired better than average by a basketball sized brownie.

Did you leave a gift for the brownie the next day?

You see the sylph floating in the air, a vaguely human-like shape. What do you do?

Oak:
Since I know your time and energy are limited, my top updating priority for the day is my interactions with the pixies, brownies, and sylphs.  I'd love a chance to be able to play out getting to know them a bit (both with some individuals, and with the cultures as a whole).  But I know we only have a month in RL, so I'll take whatever I can get...  :D

Playtester:

OOC: Woo Hoo!  Many thanks!!!  :D
Oak:
Playtester:
You visit with pixies, brownies, and sylphs. Pixies are small, flying creatures with a tendency to offer gifts and receive gifts.  Brownies...well, you find your shoes one morning are more than perfectly repaired, and a cute fellow about the size of a basketball darts out from under your bed, and is out the door in a jif. Sylphs are creatures of wind and dust. Their darker half who chose to follow the evil gods with eagerness are the dust devils.

From Tom's memories, I recall that the language barrier was a challenge, at least with the pixie he conversed with.  I use my telepathy, along with tapping into their language centers, to converse as necessary.  And even for those without a language barrier, I use telepathy to ask :: 'Peace be unto you', friend.  Do you prefer to converse by thought, or by speech? ::, and use telepathy to hear their replies.  (That way, I get to experience, at least briefly, touching minds with these creatures. :)

Do I recognize any of the creatures from Tom's memories?  Do I meet with the pixie Tom met, who needed a particular gem to wed his dearest heart?  Do I meet Stefan, or any of the other brownies Tom met?  If so, I tell them I am a friend of his.  I don't recall Tom meeting any sylphs, so I get to know them from scratch.

Are there any in need of any type of aid or gift?

I gladly exchange songs and/or stories and/or speech and/or thoughts with any of goodwill who are interested, and would be most happy to make some new friends.

If there are items available for sale or barter (or as gifts :), I am particularly interested in:

(*) a water container that can supply its own water
(*) a food container that can supply its own food
(*) musical instruments (such as a celtic harp which always stays in tune, with strings that never break :)
(*) items that enable the user to shapeshift
(*) a container (backpack?) that has any/all of the following properties
(**) externally small, but large internal space/capacity
(**) externally light, even if full of heavy items
(**) able to stow or retrieve objects instantly by thought, somewhat like Tom's scabbard

And for all the different groups I meet, I share the tale of Tom's Quest, using the same parameters that I have understood from Tom regarding the need, the risks, the potential, and the requirements, and see if there are any who wish to join...

OOC: I've copied my previous overview here for reference.  On to the exciting details!  :D

...snip...

OOC: I assume that this is still day four, correct?

I give a gentle smile and a friendly nod, and use telepathy to ask :: 'Peace be unto you', friend.  Do you prefer to converse by thought, or by speech? ::, and use telepathy to hear the sylph's replies.

If I am unable to sense the sylph's thoughts, or if I sense that it didn't hear or understand me, I repeat my salutation verbally.

If necessary, and if I am able, I tap into the sylph's language center to bridge any language barriers.

Playtester:

OOC: I'm a bit confused by the timeline.  Is my sighting of the brownie the morning of the fourth day, or the morning of the fifth day?  Is the venue my bed at Lady Morrigan's, or with the sylphs after an overnight stay?  And is this my first sighting of any of the brownies?

I recall the knowledge Tom gleaned about them being helpful, but not liking thanks or gratitude expressed, and about their appreciation of masters of skill.

I stretch out my telepathic (and clairvoyant, if necessary) senses toward the departing brownie.

If successful, I read his thoughts to see if there is any worthy service I can perform for him as well, recalling Tom's assisting them by moving some large rocks near a river to help build a dam...

At Lady Morrigan's on the fourth morn, you wake and stretch your thoughts out toward the brownie.  This is the first time you've seen a brownie as so far you haven't left Morrigan's garden or house yet.It stops, and turns to you."Whisperer."You speak of Stefan, and he allows that he, Mack, is a third cousin.

"Whisperer."

You speak of Stefan, and he allows that he, Mack, is a third cousin.

In his thoughts is a worry about a rabid badger.  He plans on going to talk to the Elven Forester responsible for the area for help later today.

"Well met, Mack, cousin of Stefan.  I am John Oakmaster, friend of Thomas Day.  'Peace be unto you.'"

"I understand from Tom that you are folk of impressive skill.  Having seen his scabbard, and my newly repaired shoes, I certainly agree."

"Would you be interested in a trade?  For there is something I would like to have made for me, if possible.  And in return, I would be happy to use my own skills in your service, should you have any needs I could help with."

OOC: Where do I meet the sylph?  At Lady Morrigan's, or while walking through the forest, or elsewhere?

:: I would like to talk, and get to know you, and hear your stories, and those of your folk, if you are willing. ::

:: And I also carry tidings of a Great Quest, and wonder if it would be of interest to any of your folk... ::

Re: Oak's Seven Days

You've offended the brownie.

"We do not trade." Stefan snaps, and vanishes from your sight. Either he moved very fast, or he simply vanished.

=============

You met the sylph walking through the forrest at a sunlit wide spot on the trail.

It begins to speak in your mind, and after a while you realize it is no story, no hero. It is simply a description of a place.  So finely detailed, so lovingly phrased, so lyrical the words that you can see the morning robin, the bending willow trees, hear the tinkling of the fish leaping in the pool....and then there is another word picture of another place...and another...until finally your mind is surfeit with poetic images.

An hour further on, you come to a collection of four, no ten, no twenty, you're not really sure, how many little houses tucked around the roots of the trees, dangling from branches, tucked in little ripples of ground. A tiny little man with dark blue breeches, bright green shirt, pointed ears, and pointed hair sticking out all over opens the nearest door and walks up to you.

"Well met, trader. I'm Stefan of the Brownies, and since the road led you to us, it must mean you have herbs for sale. I assume you're Human from your looks. If you're not I apologize. We have some very good root we make into a tasty drink here, and some medicinal fungi and mushroom. And of course, the best crocheting this side of Auriador. Come share some cheese and strawberry juice with me."

OOC: I'm confused, so let me double-check...

(*) Stefan greeted Tom as a trader, with "Well met, trader", correct?
(*) But now I'm talking to his cousin Mack, correct?
(*) And Mack is offended, and snaps, "We do not trade."?

Is this a result of foggy memories on what the brownies did with Tom way back then, and so Mack didn't really react this way after all?  Or is it the case that Stefan welcomed trade, but Mack really is offended?  :(

Re: Oak's Seven Days

This is a result in part of poor memories on my part, but...

IC:

You stare in shock. This makes little sense from them being willing to trade with Tom. But then it occurs to you that they might be willing to trade in some things, but in the things more important to them, they do not trade, or at least not openly.

Tom had discussed how he offered to help, but he had not made a trade with his help with the dam. Instead, it had been the passing of mutual gifts.

OOC: In myths, the one sure way to get rid of brownies helping you was to offer to pay them.

=================

*Of course.* The sylph replies, and begins to speak again of watching the moon rise over the trees, of the sound of the first raindrops hitting the hot ground, of what a branch looks like as it tumbles from a tree...

Soon your mind is full again.

*We see the World and how it changes. You do not change. Even Terracuyl changes. Explain.*

Stunned, then saddened, I bow my head in prayer for wisdom.

Then I approach our hostess, and Tom, and relate sadly what has happened.

"I meant no harm... in fact, quite the opposite.  I would dearly love to make friends with them, and spend time together, as Tom did before."

"I ask your advice.  I obviously do not know enough about the cultures here.  How can one make amends with an offended brownie?  I may well be able to find him again telepathically... but I need to know how to interact with him in a way that brings blessing, rather than causes offense."

I share memories of my home universe, of home and family and the love we shared, of the accident that transported me out of that universe, of the shock of finding myself elsewhere, and of ultimately discovering the nature of my transformation into one that neither changes nor dies, but moves from universe to universe through death.  I share memories of how I have tried to serve the LORD wherever He has sent me.  I share memories of the joys I have had in doing so, and the sorrow I have had in the loss of home and family, and the hope that someday, somehow, I will find my way back to them.

:: But the LORD loves me, and knows best.  As it is written, 'Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.'  Even now, I know of one in this forest who may well have the power to send me back to my home universe... but I cannot make use of it.  For the LORD has called me to assist in a Great Quest, with the fate of billions in the balance, so I must deny myself, and follow where He leads. ::

Re: Oak's Seven Days

"To trade, or to offer payment for something truly important to a Brownie is to say that you value the coin above the heart. Now in truth, the Brownies are not as idealistic as all that, but they want to be that way, and sometimes they manage, and other times they indulge in a little hypocrisy." The Lady Morrigan says. "I can't really tell you what to do because if I do it might lend a note of falseness and thats the last thing you want at this moment."

*You have given us more than we gave you.* Suddenly there are dozens of sylphs floating around you. *We too worship the Creator, and the Guardians He sent to watch over us. Your world has much of beauty, but it also has much of surpassing ugliness. We fear that no one in this forrest can find your home. The Multiverse is vast beyond your realizing.*

Suddenly you see in your mind a billion billion worlds, and all of them look like home.

*We are sorrowful to show you this, but it is the truth that we have.*

Re: Oak's Seven Days

You spend a couple hours which counts as good practise, but the first thing you find is a man made of sticks, about six inches tall. He sees you, or your clairvoyant probe, and he demonstrates great skill in vulgarity. You attempt to apologize, but he refuses your apology, and so with ears burning you leave him. After a bit, you realize that he seemed to be having a rather too good of a time at your expense, and that he doesn't want your apology.  He wants a good excuse to scream at someone.

You continue searching, and see a party of elves.

One, a male, bows gracefully to you.

"Master Oak. There are parts of our forest that are secret, and others merely private." He points to several plants growing. "These are signs of such." This hurts more than the rude litle mannikin. You get the feeling like he is gently instructing a toddler in the arts of eating food with a fork, and you're the toddler.

Carefully, you continue searching, and this time watch out for the 'signpost' plants, but you're tired, and soon come back to your body.

OOC: Very Bad GE roll.
