Miage gave a nod of her head and tore off after Brain.  It was a pretty easy trail to follow, like following a tornado through a china shop.

'HOw many doors are IN this house?" He asked as he tore the doors off its hinges.

  Six inches past the doors was a telekinetic wall.  That didn't feel so good to smack into.  There were three doors waiting in the short hallway beyond them.

Dragon Fist then tried to use the power of Air to part a path through them, so that they could get to the other side.

As Dragon Fist hadneld the wall Ex began to make short work of the doors.

Mirage shook her head ruefully as she caught up with DF and Excelsior.

"It's very gentlemanly of your both to open the doors for me but I think that we can manage without."

If need be, she'd grab a hold of the two of them and teleport them both passed any doors or telekinetic walls.  Hopefully that would allow them to catch up to Brain.

  He was in one of those three rooms ahead of them.  They could feel it.

Dragon Fist held up his hand for a moment.

"Stand back....I can get a sense of his chi...and which room he's in."

Dragon Fist's eyes on his helmet glowed with an azure light, and he began to search the three rooms for Brain's chi. Surely with what he had done, it had to be black as night.

  With his new grasp of the Chi, Dragon Fist could tell, Brain was . . . straight ahead, in the middle room!!

"Guys...he's straight ahead...Ex and I take point...Mirage, follow up with some trickery..."

Ex nodded as he moved towards the door opening it forcefully.

"Trickery?"  Mirage laughed at her assigned role as thin wisps of crimson smoke flowed around her.  As soon as the door was opened, she was going to flood the room beyond with smoke and a few shadowy attackers as a distraction.

  As Ex slammed the door open, Brainstorm laughed, and said "VENGEANCE!!"  Which was all the warning they got as he 'detonated', sending out a psychic shockwave as his own brain exploded, a forcewave that shredded the building in an expanding circle from where he had been, destroying everything in it's path.

As Brain was about to blow Ex sped up ward grabbing the two of them going at incredible speed till they wre free of the psychic shockwave.

Dragon Fist saw the shockwave.

"Mirage! Get us out of here! Not sure what happened, but it looks like he's trying to take us all out. Can you get Don as well? If not, Ex, get Hunter out as fast as possible!"

Then Ex grabbed them..

"I'll get Hunter." Mirage shouted, fully intending to teleport to their stricken comrade and get him to safety.

Only something went wrong.  A flash of pain crossed her face as she grabbed her head.

Mirage cried out.

And then was gone.

  The building was destroyed.  The walls, ceilings, roof, all of it shredded.  Smoke and flames were rising from the ruins of what had once been a nice mansion.  Destroyed by the brainstorm their foe had unleashed to kill them.

Ex hovered high above the remains of the house breathing heavily. "There. There was no time."

Dragon Fist slowly staggered to consciousness. The psionic backlash was incredible, as he had never experienced anything of that magnitude before. His vision slowly cleared, and the broken mansion lay in pieces below. He then recalled that someone was still inside.

"Don....no....he deserved better than this....the man has a family now...he..."

He had lost so much in his journey. The love of his life, Friday Winters...and now, his good friend and teammate Don Derring....was gone. It was very apparent that he was holding back an onslaught of emotion.

"I-I'm so sorry." Ex said he seemed to be breathing heavily as if exhausted. "Never moved so fast, There was no time."

"You did what you could, Ex. All of us did...I don't like this...having to stand by and try to pick up the pieces of this..."

Dragon Fist's expression was somber, as he was saddened by the apparent death of Don. Not knowing where to go from here.

"Sh-should we go tell his family?" Ex asked obviously unsure of what to do?

Dragon Fist nodded.

"It would be the right thing to do...right now though....damn, this sucks..."

He sighed for a moment.

"I'll take care of it, Ex. If you want to come with, you're certainly more than welcome....I think his family....and maybe me too...we could use all the support we can get."

"I'll come I can fly faster than you I'll have us there in a jiffy" WIth that Ex took to the skies taking off towards the

Mirages head felt like it was exploding, which was not that far from the truth.  At the moment when she had used her psionic abilities to 'Will' herself into another location, Brain psychic blast hit her.  She lost her concentration momentarily under the force of Brains attack, and ceased to be.

Brains attack bore into her, the villain matching his will against Mirages, silently and psychically commanding her to die.  Mirage had buckled under the force of the initial attack but she was not one to give up so easily.  She regrouped and analyzed the attack for there was still much for her to do.  No one was going to force Mirage into defeat.  She fought back in the only way that she knew how, matching her will against Brains.

Like a wave in the water, the attack washed over Mirage but she stood firm, forcing back against the force of the attack along a direction that she'd never tried before.

Then the attack was over.  In the calm that followed, as Mirage recovered, she felt something.  It was like seeing a soft light in the darkness.  There was pain, sadness, anguish and it was strong enough that Mirage was drawn towards it.
