Keeping position behind the fighter types as they moved to close the distance to any enemys and keep an open watch for those unsuspected surprise's that pop up during sharp conflicts.

As Flynn approaches the edge of the clearing and safety with the Acolyte, and Vertium's beetle nearly slays another kobold, the Ettin suddenly winks out of existence.

Re: Midrath Koar

With an somewhat experienced eye from his battles with strange forces he was taxed to keep his eyes on the combatants he could see and judge who was wounded and who might need his help or his prayers.

The one called Grondor looked to have taken a wound with the short stagger before returning to the combat, breaking ranks he will move towards Grondor to see how bad he really was.

[Private to GM: Not sure if i can cover the distance to grondor while dodging any combats still going on, if so i will cast a CL on him.]

Kahmaul drops his fist down on yet another kobold, moving to put down the last of their number as quickly as possible, crying out as he moves. His eyes appear feral as he continues to drop the reptilian enemy.

Genovia, hearing Vertium's direction pauses for an instant to see what the fighters will do.  Seeing Kahmaul continue his devastating attack, she lets loose with an arrow felling one of the slingers.

The pain goads him like nothing else.  He relishes the battle.  One of the small kobold defenders is nearly sliced in twain by Grondor's sword, the blow powerful enough to carry through to one of the slingers, who also falls.

Another arrow flies from the trees.  It only wings one of the slingers, but the shot is lucky and hits its slinging arm.

Re: Midrath Koar

The battle is over.  The last few remaining kobolds are slain and small reptilian bodies lie strewn about.  The beetle and flying serpent scour the clearing as if bored now that the fighting is done.

The Acolyte, safe but near death, is in no little shape to do more than thank the rescuers.  From out of the trees, a young human woman steps, slinging her bow across her back.  She approaches the middle of the field where Grondor and Kahmaul stand over the bodies of the slingers.

"Remind me never to get on your bad side, Kahmaul," she quips.  She turns to Grondor, "or yours."  To the rest of the group she nods, especially acknowledging the two humans immediately visible, Genovia and Tyler.  "Dathnaea Searii of Highstorm Crag," she says by way of introduction.

Re: Midrath Koar

Continuing with his run forward he takes a second to glance at the flying reptile he had summoned and letting it pursue after the slingers. Not sure if he would lose control when it reached its control range but he would not over worry about that now.

[Private to GM: If the path to the badly wounded man is open then he will change direction and head for him since he is much worse off from what Tyler can have seen.]

[Private to Tyler Darkwatch: The battle ends by the time you reach Grondor but your serpent will help end it.  Flynn and the injured Anthros are too far away yet, but you can heal him when they walk back toward the group.]

Kiro pulled out a small cloth and wiped his spear clean, slinging his shield back over his back. The scent and sight of blood trickling down it was unnerving.

"Agreed," he said after Genovia spoke. Fortunate indeed. Kiro wasn't sure that they could have bested the kobold swarm by themselves, and they happened to be here at the same time with the same goal... "Coincidental...er.. Fortunate."

Re: Midrath Koar

"Thanks," Grondor says to Tyler after he trots up and begins with the healing spells.  He looks at Kiro and smiles a lopsided smile.  "Coincidence?  Not at all!" He breaks into a hearty chuckle. "Qin'ah has granted us a great battle.  Addiyr has protected his servant.  Halai has no doubt blessed us with at least a modicum of loot.  Who can say how the other gods have blessed us with this encounter of fortune?  Have faith, friend Kradok."  He pats Kiro on the shoulder completely ignoring the wounds Tyler has not healed yet.

Then he turns to Kahmaul, Flynn, and the human girl, Dathnaea.  "Well met!  I am Grondor Swordstorm a simple blade for hire.  What madness brings you into the depths of Midrath Koar?"  The hobgoblin suddenly hocks up a huge mass of phlegm and spits to the side squarely into the face of one of the dead slingers.  The phlegm is filled with blood.

It was enough that they had broken up a large gathering of enemys and saved someone from what appeared to be certain death.
Laying his hand on Grondors shoulder he went thru the well practiced prayer of simple healing.

Vertium unsummoned his beatle and smiled. For his first fight, all things considered, the fight went quite well. He walked towards the newcommers and decided to speak to them. "I would like to thank you for your help in defeating the kobolts. May I ask why you are visiting these parts of the land?"

Kahmaul's face softens as he replies, "Ah, well, I could ask the same... I was sent to the fortress city of Bargal Dulg to gather forces to help search for Cannial Severbough. He is a Druid just awarded his full measure and was the leader of a cadre of young acolytes who left with him on a study of the encroachment of the Midrath Koar on the swamplands."

Moving towards where Flynn disappeared to he continues, "Flynn and I were going to gather men there and speak to the man in charge of the fortress. We ran into Dathneaea on the way in the company of some slavers. When I am finished rescuing this Cannial and his men I inteded to look into that but hopefully we have a good start with this young Anthros we rescued."

Flynn moves off behind the party to try and recover his card when he gets a chance. He looks at those assembled as he walks back his face a bit soured, "We had this handled... I don't know why you charged in without a plan. That was reckless even by this lug's standards." He moves to stand next to the Anthros playing with what is left of his playing cards.

He relaxes against a tree and continues to address Kahmaul, "The Anthros is safe. Danthaea has some talent with a bow, which was mine by the way, not that you'd care. If we are done here are we continuing to the fortress or should we look to question our lucky friend over there?" Indicating the young Anthros the party managed to save.

The young Anthros is wounded and barely able to stand on his feet but he perks up when he hears the name Severbough.  "We...kobolds attacked us.  The others...they made me escape to find help.  I did not make it.  Severbough, he's..." the strain of his wounds and speaking is too much and the Anthros slumps to the ground unconscious.

Re: Midrath Koar

Tyler's healing visibly relaxes the acolyte.  His body goes from a rigid, pain fighting, semi-comatose state to one of restful sleep.  There are a few moments, at least, for the two groups to come together (and perhaps the young woman still hiding in the trees that followed the larger group from Bargal Dulg if she cares to) and discuss their options from this point.  However, the Koar is not a safe place to loiter for long.  The noise of battle and the stench of blood will attract other, nastier denizens before too long.  It might behoove the adventurers to decide quickly and move on from the battle ground clearing.

"And I thought that the acolytes were made of sterner stuff... At least the Anthros ones. You have to stop making it hard for them to live up to your image there big man." Flynn watches the others a moment as if considering them for a few moments. He smirks and speaks softly to Kahmaul, "I suppose you've picked us up some more strays? You've a bad habit of this lawman."

DarkGreen>"First we have raiders and now a passed out and useless acolyte... I suggest we mark this clearing so we can trail the Kobolds later if we see a need. But for now our mission at least is to reach the fortress and recieve further orders."</DarkGreen> Kahmaul raises his brow at the warriors assembled that they have chanced upon. He waves as if inviting them to accompany him. He begins to move towards the path leading to the fortress city. He stops at the unconcious young Anthros before bending down and nodding to the cleric. He smiles warmly and offers his thanks before hefting the young druid over his shoulders.

He turns to the others and nods towards the road, "I agree that together we pose a sizable force that will scare away most dangers until we arrive...I would find it a privillege to walk with such brave fighters as you all assembled."<

Vertium considered the situation for a moment before replying. "We would be glad to accompany you. However, we were sent to these regions to follow a mission imparted onto us by the gods. So, at some point in the journey, we may have to leave you in order to complete our quest."

OoC: I am not sure whether we are headed in the same direction. If I remember correctly, we were also headed towards the forteress?

"Gather forces at Bargal Dulg, you say?  To look for a missing druid and his students?  If this whelp doesn't know where to start looking then nobody in the Ddulg will be able to help you any better.  Why not get him all healed up and rested and ask him before you waste days traveling there?  If we end up going the same way, would we not serve as decent reinforcements for your quest?"  Grondor sizes up the Anthros who towers even over him.  "Mayhap we move off a bit, find a place to cook up some grub and compare notes more thoroughly before we part ways.  It may be that we have information that the other needs."

[Private to Vertium Thrusius: Insight:  These others might have information on the rock formation you are looking for if they've traveled any through Midrath Koar.  At least they can give you an idea for the terrain up ahead if that is the direction you are going to continue in instead of deeper into the Koar which your group definitely cannot handle with your experience right now.]

Nodding the large Anthros shifts the acolyte more comfortably on his shoulders before grunting, "Then let us make for some distance from these bodies first and then we can make camp. It might do us well to get to know one another."
