HoC (Hunters of Chaos) is a setting based more on the old 16-bit video games of Sonic the Hedgehog. Robotnik is a powerful villain, but doesn't rule the world. He seems to have the resources to more or less build town-sized bases every once in a while, but is always too aggressive and thus, catching Sonic's attention. But while Sonic deals with Robotnik most times, you too can deal with him, or team up with someone to deal with him (Like your character is a selectable option when starting the video game and/or you select 2-Player!). However, you can choose a problem to deal with also! It doesn't have to be Robotnik (Just that he's a classic Sonic villain). Also, in keeping with video game mechanics, explosions and stuff don't kill. Just kinda makes you covered in black and cough up smoke.

Remember, this is still experimental, so if there is anything we dislike about this setting or its mechanic, we can change it! The reason it's called "Hunters of Chaos"? Because most anyone involved is after the chaos emeralds. But since this is 16-bit setting, all the chaos emeralds do is make you invincible, faster, better, stronger, work it. And you have to have all 7 emeralds, 50 rings, etc. If you get 14 emeralds, you can fly in outer space! Being super means your current rings get eaten at a rate of one ring per second. But since this is free-form, we won't be paying too much attention to that. Don't forget, being super doesn't mean you have godlike powers. It just means you can rush through the level while it's active!

Finally, for the time being, we'll start with a simple level and not even worry about obtaining the emeralds for now. Now the setting!

It's a beautiful day in Greenhill Zone and Mei Ling ( http://timothius.deviantart.co...lery/?q=mei#/d1f1f8l ) is there with a picnic basket. She brought WAY more than to eat than one person should have. Partly because she's a pig and partly because she wants to be prepared in case anyone happens by.

Humming a tune, the chinese pig lady is scoping the area. She sees a loop-de-loop up ahead and considers trying it out later. What? She's a very fit pig. Pigs can be healthy and in some cases, strong.

Coco is a pretty standard monkey.  He likes to climb up trees, swing from vines, that sort of thing.  He also likes yummy food!  Once he smells the picnic, he knuckle-jogs over to where Mei Ling is.

"Hey hey!" he chimes, "That sure looks yummie!  Wish I had a nice lunch like that.  Expecting company?"

His tummy rumbles, and he blushes.

  Joe is going with the Classic Jaguar style this time around when it comes to their fuzzy self.  He has also found that trying to fly a kite with your grappling hook gun after the kite string becomes hopelessly tangled isn't really viable....  What?  We're sure Batman tried it at least once!

  Mei Ling is also an example of 'Pigs can be adorable'.  Joe still has stereotype expectations though, such as 'Miss Piggy knows Super Kung-Fu, thus all of them do?'

  As he reels in his kite, he looks over to Lucky Coco and Mei Ling, then comments "I got some sodas if that helps?"  did we mention Joe was sitting on a small cooler? he totally was.  No not Styrofoam, that'd be silly.

Mei Ling smiles and bows to the others as they voice themselves into existence. "Ni hao! Please join me, friends. I brought plenty." she lays the blanket down, next to the base of the aforementioned loop. She pulls out the fixings and nods a few times to Joe. "Shi. Beverages are most welcome. Thank you so much for offering."

"Really, really?" Coco asks, "You're gunna share?!  Yip-yip yippeee!"

He backflips happily.  He does what the can to help out with setting things up.  He then claps his hands and rubs them together, licking his upper lip.

"So what's on the menu?"

  Joe wanders over more casually, if only because back flipping while holding a cooler full of soda probably isn't great for the drinks.  He sets the Shark faced kite to the side, and says "Thanks, I got usual colas, orange sort, Karma Jolt"  Either of you get the reference with that last one?

  "I'd figure the menu is 'free snacks, so better than normal snacks'.  Anyway, I'm Joe.  Nice to meet you both."

"I am Mei Ling" the pig says. "Please let me see the string to your kite." she offers. Then looks at Coco. "Mostly sandwich fixings. But there are hot dogs as well."

(OOC: Sorry, no. Don't get the reference)

"Yum yum!" Coco chimes, "Sandwitches!  Everybody loves 'em!  Yep yep!  Awesome kite there, Joe.  My name's Coco!  Pleased to meetcha!  I'll go for a regular sorta cola!"

  Joe hands Coco his Cola of choice, commenting "Thanks Coco.  And you should at least enjoy some of the food you brought yourself first Mei Ling, but thanks."  This said as he pulls the kite over.

  Sure, he could fix it himself.  But that would have been EFFORT.  And he wanted to see if you could indeed fly a Ktie via grappling hooks... Alas, the failure.

It just so happens that Mei Ling is very good with tangled string. She's a tailor. ;) But she takes Joe's advice anyways and makes a sandwich and bites into it, wiggling her nose at it in a sniff. Then takes a sip of some soda. "I heard Sonic the Hedgehog is going to be visiting here again. Is that what brings you two to this zone? Or just enjoying the peaceful weather?"

"Really, really?!" Coco asks with a bright smile, "THE Sonic The Hedgehog?  Wowie wow!  Hadn't heard.  Nope nope.  But I hear he's so fast he's gone before you know he's there, so... I suppose I won't see anything.  Still.  Sandwiches!  Thanks!"

He pigs out way more than the pig, occasionally pounding on his chest to keep from choking.

  Due to the influence of elsegame varieties of Joe, this Joe opts for one of the Hotdogs.  Mmmm.  Meta Snacking.  "More the scenery than the people were why I came here.  Though, the people is turning out to have been a pleasant reason also."

  He points at Coco and straightface-ye-obvious-joke says "It is impolite to choke to death at someone's picnic."

Mei Ling chuckles at the sight, finding Coco to be humorous company. "Slow down.. you could hurt yourself." That and she doesn't want Coco eating ALL of her "reserves".

Sonic arrives via the loop-de-loop! "Oh! Picnic! Yo, picnic people! May I join you?"

Mei Ling smiles bright, mouth agape and nodnods. "Please! Come! There are still some hot dogs left!"

Sonic trots over and plops to his butt, taking a hot dog. "Thanks! What a beautiful day. Can't imagine anyone not taking advantage of it."

Coco manages to dislodge his latest bit of choked food and swallow just in time to gaaaasp at the sight of Sonic!

"Ohmygosh Ohmygosh!  It's Sonic THE Hedgehog!  So cool so cool!  Bet he eats faster than even me!  I wunna picture!  But I don't have a camera!"

  Joe can't help but wonder how many travel collisions there are on the loop-de-loop.  "Hello Sonic, like Mei Ling said, go for it."  he looks back over to Coco and says "I got a camera, though I want it back when you're done."  Cheap digital devices to the rescue!

Mei Ling takes turns with picture-taking and Sonic gladly poses with whoever wants one. Mei Ling is included in such. Sonic chows down with the group and is rather pleasant to be with. Sure, he belches and does a few other rude things, but he's friendly and kind. When the topic of speed-eating comes up, he headshakes. "Not enough food here to put that to the test, Coco! We'll have to find a sponsor for that one!"

Mei Ling gets this in-love look in her eyes as she daydreams about partaking in food-eating contest.

Coco would love to be in a contest of any kind with Sonic involved.  He's so cool!  *.*

"Thank you thank you, Joe!  I owe ya one!  Yep yep!  Send me copies!  So eating contests aren't an option.  What would you like to do, Mr. Sonic?"

  Might be involved in an eating contest as one of the announcers?  Maybe?  Regardless of wether or not he's qualified to compete in one in the first place, let alone compared to the people he is currently with, the fact he'd have to rush through the foodness is just meh to him.

  No time to taste that pie!.. You think it was pie.... You hope it was pie.

  "Sure thing Coco, will probably have em sent by tonight if nothing else comes up."

Sonic nods. "I'd offer to race, but..." he looks around. "Wouldn't wanna make anyone look bad." THERE'S that egotism. And he said it with a smug look. He then shrugs. "Tell ya what! I'll get the eating thing set up by t'morrow. And whoever is up for it? Come try!"

Mei Ling bows some. "Thank you, Sonic." she looks over at Joe. "And thank you for the photos, Joe."

"Really, really?!" Coco cheers, "You'd do that?  In an eating contest, nobody loses!"

Backflips of joy!  Urk!  Shouldn't do that right after over-eating.  But it's all good.  Nothing comes up but a belch.

  "You, win a race?  Wow, I never thought that would happen.  Next thing you know I'll find out you like chillidogs or something."  He looks over from his sarcasm to Coco and Mei Ling, and says "If I can find one, I'll be sure to bring a giant pointer finger hand to wave in vague enthusiasm for your sake.   You're welcome Mei Ling."
