It occurs to me that XP may become an important issue in this battle with the soulfeeders' XP-sucking powers.

heath posted that some elements of the soul feeders have changed with their manifestation on the prime material plane, my hope was that the xp drain may be one of them

So this means you can have only 1 attack per round maximum due to halved speed (but you can always have 1 attack per round), and then -3 on attacks and saving throws.

borimer gets 5/2 attacks, so if he gets 1 attack the first round due to exhastion, how many attacks does he get the second round?

That's actually not one of the changes.

XP will be awarded after this adventure, which is nearly over.  I don't hand it out in the middle of a fight or sequence.

The reasons for this are:

1- The logistics of suddenly powering up in the middle of a battle, including the realistic effects, is not a good practice IMO

2- During a sequence, your characters are naturally tired, exhausted and actually weaker than before it all started, so it is not realistic that they suddenly get powered up.

3- I used to require training for level changes, but since now I don't do that, it doesn't make sense to level in the middle of a battle/sequence

4- Leveling takes reflection and healing time to understand what was done right or wrong, so XP are only handed out during periods of rest or reflection.

No.  That requires a heal spell.  It's actually not an injury per se, just a temporary condition caused by smoke inhalation.

However, he can do dispel magic to free Adaran.

Take note that this last encounter with Tarimar's forces is not just another battle to delay your escape or cause you hardship.  There is also an important plot point here that Adaran discovered.

He will need to go about 40 feet southeast, go around the wall, and then 40 feet northwest, at his reduced speed.  I think that would cost him at least 1 round, but I haven't done a calculation.

I assume Adaran is first waiting for Kahan to dispel the wall of force so Adaran doesn't run into it?

The wall of force is between me and the dwarf? That doesn't seem to make sense. The dwarf just attacked Grung, who is standing further north - which is where the rest of the group had just been when Maelarian cast the wall of force, separating himself from Borimer, Adaran, Kahan and Grung. Grung never circled around the wall of force, he remained there to fight the soulfeeder, so the dwarf would have had to come to him to attack him. Grizz would also have to circle around the wall of force to attack that dwarf.

Actually, my map is somewhat different than yours.  Here's what I have for the beginning of round 3.  Maellarian was where Grizz is now when he cast the spell and backed up during round 2 to the point where he's listed.  In other words, he put the dwarves between himself and Kahan, Grung and Grizz, and the wall between himself and Borimer and Adaran.

Oh, now I see. I had envisioned it differently because I thought Maelarian had cast the wall of force between himself and everyone else, rather than just to block off Borimer (and Adaran, who couldn't have attacked him anyway at that time). In that case, yes, Adaran will begin moving toward the dwarf while Kahan is casting (in Phase 1), and continue toward him after Kahan finishes dispelling the wall of force (in Phase 2). During Phase 1, Adaran will focus on staying defensive, ready to use Tumbling to dodge anything that comes his way.

I'm pretty sure that's not how NWP's work, but if Heath allows it, then sure, why not?

Well, it says in the book that you can't Tumble and attack in the same turn. That's what I was referring to.

I should have been more clear. What I meant is that if Adaran is significantly threatened in Phase 1, he will use Tumbling - which requires that he forgo his attack this round. If he isn't significantly threatened, then he will not use Tumbling and will execute his attack. Given that one spiked demon is attacking Maelarian and the other is attacking one of the dwarves, and Heath said they will continue attacking their selected targets until those targets are dead or a more powerful target attacks them, it seems likely that Adaran won't be attacked this round.

By the way, just curious, how did Grung deal 17 damage to the soulfeeder with his battle axe if they take only 1/2 damage from bladed weapons? Not that I'm complaining of course. :)

Because it's taken a corporeal form and that restriction doesn't apply to these two types of demons.  (It will, however, apply to the two larger demons who are on their way.)
