Re: D&D: Halthern

Of course.  If nature intended us to hunt wildlife with arrows instead of your BARE HANDS nature would have given us poison dart launcher mouths like a hydralisk.... which is an bio engineered monstrosity bad example.

"Well your definitely more qualified for such compliments than my ears are.  Then again, I somehow doubt I pull off an overall adorable look even on a good day.  Not that I mind, I don't think I could quite register the mental image of 'wilderness exploring map maker man!  Adorable'."

Re: D&D: Halthern

They arrive at the inn. Alexis says, "Well all the same, you are good looking. And exotic to me. I've heard freckles are common among humans. At least compared to elves. I'm the only one with freckles where I come from."

Re: D&D: Halthern

"Well, I'd be lying if I said the freckles didn't make you look cuter somehow."  Ah, good ol Inns.  Particularly when they have food and you have an extra 2 silver (well, discounting expenses of making sold maps).  "Though I didn't realize it was that uncommon among elves, considering I'm not exactly a world traveled expert."

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis bites her lower lip with an almost-impish smile at the compliment to her freckles. Then pauses. "...your not? I mean. You said earlier you travel to make maps, right? I guess you haven't mapped elf territories yet?" she pays for the "lunch special", which is seasoned pork chops with a side of spinach and a mug of wine.

Re: D&D: Halthern

"The world is a large place, even with the miles I have traveled and taken note of it would be sorta silly to think I know everything about everything.  As for maps of Elven territory, not much in that regard.  While I haven't exactly been met with hostility, something about drawing a map giving the exact location of at least halfway hidden Elven living locations seems to be considered a problem.  Most of them still buy maps to Dwarven and Human and etc locations with no comment though."

That, and if there were clearly labeled and established borders, the more jerkface Elves couldn't pull the 'shoot the innocent trespassers, then complain if they fight back because they are clearly in the wrong for trespassing' gag so well.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis huhs. "Well the hidden places are supposed to be hidden. And usually for good reason, such as a nearby enemy. So that much makes sense. It's an act of consideration on your part to not draw a map there." oh fun. Imagine: Drawing a map of a community that was meant to be hidden. Then next day, some eladrin buys that very map from you and acts sane. Next day, you hear news every man, woman and child was massacred by their eladrin neighbors.

Alexis continues, "And of course they buy maps of other places. Especially if the neighbors don't specifically wanna be secret. It's like if I hear about local news from the town crier, but won't tell people about my personal secrets. I have that right as a living, sentient being. But right to privacy vs right to know everything has always been something people vary on opinion about, I imagine..."

Re: D&D: Halthern

"I suppose it's also a lot harder to hide a town in an open expanse, or a mountain than it is to hide tree themed housing among a lot of trees, so yeah good points there.  Though, I can hardly take credit for consideration about drawing a map of somewhere I don't know the location of in the first place.  Feels too much like someone saying 'wow, you are so considerate for not slapping that guy two miles from here in the face'"

Alexis snorts (hey, she IS an elf), covering her mouth when Joe mentions slapping someone two miles away. The girl seems to have had the drink go down the wrong pipe and coughs continually. Timing can be like that. XD

Re: D&D: Halthern

Matt Joe makes a quick heal check to remember if slapping someone on the back actually helps with this sort of thing or not, and depending on results may or may not go to attempt slapping Alexis on the back to help.

"I see my humor still has poor timing as a frequent obstacle.  Sorry about that."

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis is choking on liquid, so back-slap won't do much. She holds her arms up and slowly clears her pipes. "Heh... I'd rather be choking on a joke than healthy and have no humor." she reassures him before resting her arms.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe nods, "Well, glad you're okay then at least."   While tempting, Joe felt it would be guaranteed to be patronizing to give her a hug and tell her everything would be allright during the coughing process.

"Somewhat back on the old subject, I don't suppose wherever you're from is more open to the public?"   If it was, Joe might consider telling the more hidden locations 'Everyone thinks that place is cooler than yours. Not like you can prove otherwise'.  If he was more of a jerk anyway.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis nods. "Well we live closer to humans and haven't allowed the isolationist mentality to sink in. And we don't have any serious enemies neighboring us, so... yeah, quite open. Humans visit often and we have the occasional dwarf. Tell ya what! Gimme a tour of this place and I'll give you a tour of my home."

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe smiles some, and says "I somehow get the feeling your tour will the more impressive one.  Of course, doesn't mean you can't finish eating first."  Okay, blacksmith is... Generic.  Temple of Pelor is nice and he's got a pointless joke comment regarding it's architecture for that at least.  What else...

Alexis shrugs with a smile. "Both places are impressive in their own way. I'll remind you how this place is impressive as I comment on it. Then you will remind me how impressive my home is when you comment on it."

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe thusly leads Alexis on a MAGICAL JOURNEY!...  Okay so it's not that spectacular.  "This is the local Pelor temple.  Popular guy, but they still block out the sunlight with stonework and stained glass windows anyways.  Of course, most Sea deity related temples are not submerged, so I guess exceptions for practicality may be made."

Alexis looks about, marveling at the building and how it's made. "Those windows are so beautiful." she nods as Joe comments about buildings not being fully designed around a faith. "Makes sense. Do you follow any specific deity?"

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe says "Not really focused on it, no.  Not that I dislike most of them either, I just don't have any outlook of 'This god is the best god to like'."

The answer to that by the way, is Kord.  Kord is the best God to like.  This message has been brought to you by Eletor nonsequitur.  If it's not Kord, It's Kord with a different name.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis ohs and nods. "I have likely prayed to Corellon more often than the other gods due to where I was raised. And I feel a closer kinship with him as he is specifically the god of the elves. But I try to pay homage to the others as I can." she follows Joe out of the temple to the next bit of show and tell.

Re: D&D: Halthern

"Decent enough reason though." He comments, as the tour swings by the local blacksmiths.  Oh, wow. Horseshoes.

You'd think there would be a cameo with a certain blacksmith, but Matt is not showcased in this scene.

"Whoever thinks that is easy probably hasn't had to swing a hammer much for very long."

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis says with a giggle-tone "Or has been swinging hammers waaaaay too many times. But what you said is far more likely." she cheers on the blacksmith, excitedly checking out the forge, the type of coal used, how much, the heat, how far a given type of metal is stuck in...

(OOC: Dad has a friend who is one of the last remaining blacksmiths in America. I got to see him at work in his forge and learned a LOT. My feet hurt because we watched him work for about an hour or more, but I didn't care. It was awesome. David got to be with me that day, lucky guy. :) )

Re: D&D: Halthern

So, apparently the real secret to proper blacksmithing is to guilt the metal into shape... Okay maybe not, but that would be kinda funny.

Joe's player is drawing blanks for some reason for further spots, that was fast. Uh... BAM! Town has a Dock because we say so.  This also opens up options for casual fishing on top of seeing ships, bonus.

Alexis notices there is a boat rental. "...can we go boating?" she asks Joe. Yay completely customizable towns that don't refuse you making things like docks!

Re: D&D: Halthern

"Can't see why not, it would be a nice little trip that you can see most of the town from anyway." Boat rental gets!  He won't Make Alexis deal with the driving (boating?) unless she wants to help there.  "I've given up on boat tours longer than two and a half hours though.  I know a guy who had to learn to make next to everything out of coconuts from something like that."

Yes, Gilligan's Island reference.  We went there.
