Angel aims and fires a crossbow bolt RIGHT into the spot Matt just hammered, nailing the Lasher's corpse to the nearby pillar as it then goes limp. She doesn't need to say anything and just smiles.


Ongoing 5 necrotic damage resisted.
Superior Crossbow v Lasher 2. Hit(30)!
dmg: 17 (with sneak attack.)

Without sneak attack, Lasher would still be standing with 1 hp. Thanks for CA, Matt!

Carla jumps off the cliff and flaps her wings, slowing her fall and gently landing on her feet at the base of said cliff. She then points at the nearby spiner and shoots lightning from her finger at it, hitting the wall behind the spiner instead, as if a warning shot.


Move: E5 to F7 (Safewing Amulet negates falling damage for 10 foot fall)

The nearest spiner hisses at Carla and hurls a death spine at her but misses her and then retreats further into the cave.

"They're starting to retreat!" Adam says.

"Still quite dangerous," Mittens answers, "Be a dear and take a moment to see to your wounds, please, Mavwick.  Momma's all outta magical healing songs."

"I'll keep them occupied, then!"

  Matt takes note of Mitten's cautions, and does something less than cautious himself considering at that moment he is tied for least hitpoints, though it is a close competition.  Matt maneuvers around the rocks and comes around attempting to just shield smash the spinner over the cliff edge.  All he manages to accomplish is some bruising and landing it on it's ass, but hey.  Beats missing completely.

  He takes a moment to settle himself...  Somehow simultaneously feeling better and spitting out a gob of darkened blood as necrotic space voodoo continues to ravage annoy his body.  This player base just has the worst luck with ongoing effects.  Most validated feat pick ever?
Save Throw: 1... Blah.  Ongoing damage just really, really hates us.
Move: Crazypants zigzagging that ends up on J5 in 5 move.
Standard: Tide Of Iron Vs Spinner 1.  Hits (18 AC).  I'm too tired to double check if the angle grants a defense bonus, but I beat the Target AC by Two so it would hit anyways (Fake Edit: It would, but still hits). 7 DMG.
Action Point: Second Wind. +11 HP, +2 Def until Start Of My Next Turn.

Matt Marks: Spinner 1
Effects: Spinner 1 pushed 1 At cliff edge.  Spinner Saves and falls prone.  Matt +2 Defenses until Start of my next turn.

Game Notes: I noticed this line at the bottom of the Compendium entry for Forced Movement And Terrain "A DM can allow a power that pushes a target more than 1 square to carry the target completely over hindering terrain."...  Obviously meant so Monsters can instant ring out PCs... But THUNDER SLAM.

Spinner 1 HP: 32-7= 25/45

Satisfied that Carla's infuriating offering of justice is no longer plaguing it, but aware that she is still too hard for it to get to her, the drover rushes over to Adam and rakes it's claws across his arm!  It then immediately slinks back away from him.

The spiner knocked down by Matt clambers to it's feet.  It braces itself from a hammerfall that it knows will hurt, but having recovered the use of it's burst, it hurls it behind Adam!  Matt's swing strikes true, dealing a devastating blow, but the spinder's burst catches both Mittens and Adam!  Adam urks and drops down face forward!

Move to i7.

She stands back up and fires an arrow into the Drover's leg!
"Cover me!  I'll help Adam!"

Angel starts letting arrows fly like crazy. Her accuracy suffers from the frantic shots, but two of the four bolts hit the Drover and hit hard!

Carla decides now is a good time for the big guns. She raises her hands and throws them downward, hovering mid-air for a moment, bent forward. A huge beam of light shoots down from the ceiling, frying the spiner that's near Matt.
Then the li'l cherub hurries over to Adam, hops onto him and administers first aid. Seems she knows what she's doing. Adam's necrotic wounds stop spreading. But she's definitely not done helping him. She relies on her allies to cover for her while she aids Adam.


Standard: Brilliant Beacon v Spiner1, Drover. Hit(26)! Miss(10)
Move: F7 to H7, on top of Adam.
ACTION POINT!
Standard: Heal check on Adam. Success(17)!
 Adam Save throw: 11!

Spiner 1 will take ongoing 10 radiant damage on its turn.
Any enemy in the Brilliant Beacon zone take a -2 to attacks, defenses and save throws.

Maverick heads over to the cliff and slides down the side, gritting his teeth as he's still hurting a bit. But he pulls out a wand and waves it at the Drover. The Drover seems infuriated. He then throws a shuriken at the Drover, which go wide, clanking against a pillar.


Move: C5 to G7
Standard: Eyebite v Drover. Hit(17)!
 dmg: 6
Thanks to Brilliant Beacon, the drover's +2 defenses are negated and Eyebite can actually hit! And thanks to that, Maverick has combat advantage!

Standard: Shuriken v Drover. ......miss. >.> (14 total). Rolled a 2. Even with CA, not enough to hit. Ah well, at least Mav's invisible to the Drover.

  Matt trusts his friends to be able to finish off the Stat Mod Away From Death Drover.  However, that Spinner has caused so much grief, and remained strong.  Yes, it was time to man up and tank it up.

  The displaced blacksmith with paladin fashion sense walked up to the Spinner and tested how fragile their jaw was via warhammer.  It was found lacking, and Matt's grim satisfaction of results highlight how aptly named the 'comeback strike' is (when it hits).  For the moment, Matt went from the underdog to the one in a superior position.  Necrotic pains still slowly ravaging his body be damned.

  Move: J5 to M4 (L shape path)
  Standard: Daily Comeback Strike Vs Spinner 2: Hits (27 AC). 15 DMG.
  Save Throw: Rolled. A. Three.

  Effects: Matt spends a Heal Surge.  Spinner 2 Matt Marked.

  Spinner 2 HP: 45-15= 30
  Matt HP: 29+11-2= 38/46
S 6/10 V 11 AP 0

With a mixture of hate and fear of Angel and Maverick, the drover is left with little choice but to flank the fighter and tear a big nasty chunk out of the back of the fighter's neck with it's diseased teeth!

Carla's healing helped, but it's looking like Adam is slipping away.  Mittens quickly binds up the worst of his wounds, stabilizing him.  She hobbles over to stand in the light of Carla's brilliant beacon, and with necrotic ichor gurgling up from her throat she tells the drover, "die."  It keels over dead.  Mittens drops to her knee, about to pass out.

Adam fails death save.  2/3 failed.  Mits succeeds heal check!  Adam stabilized!  Viscious mockery maximum damage!

Mittens HP: 8-5=3 ongoing 5 necro.  Failed save.
Drover HP: 2-12=dead

  The knock down drag out fight continues onwards, only time (and dice rolls) will tell who will fall first... Well, out of Matt and the remaining Spiner.  Adam is already down and it's pretty much a given Mittens is on the way out.

  "Considering our terrible, terrible luck with emergency first aid, none of you stop to help me until Mittens is squared away."  Matt feels the last traces of necrotic corruption sputter out, then sidearms his hammer across Spiner face with his shield at the ready.
Standard: Shield Feint Vs Spiner 2. Hits (18 AC). 14 DMG
Save Throw: 18, passes finally. Watch it get reapplied next attack.

Effects: Spiner 2 Matt Marked.  Matt has +3 To-Hit Vs Spiner 2 for Next Attack.

Spiner 2 HP: 30-14= 16
Matt HP: 23-2= 20/46
  S 5/10 v 11

Is it poor form right now to remind that failed death saves counter does not reset until an Extended Rest?  Heads up for after we get out of this fight.

Angel slides down the cliff edge and runs to Mittens' side, putting her crossbow away. She goes to help Mittens patch up. "Adam's fine now, Mittens. Now focus on you."


Move: RUN from C7 to I8
Standard: First Aid! Mittens can spend a healing surge.


Mittens HP: 3 + 9 = 12 and -1 surge.

Already edited the HP and surge on the map.

Carla toddles over and tries to help Mittens deal with the ongoing necrotic gunk, but Mittens is unable to save from it.

Just as well... I accidentally rolled Mitts save throw before doing Mav's heal check right... Mitts wouldn't have saved anyway.

"Feeling much better, now," Mittens says, drawing back on her bowstring, "Thanks, everyone."

She fires an arrow into the spiner's nose which spikes through the back of it's head, finishing it off.  She hacks up a black loogie and spits it over the cliff.

"Score one for the goodguys!" she says in a clearer voice than before.  She sits in the light of Carla's sunbeam, smiles at the light with her eyes closed, and begins to sing her song of rest.

Jinx shot hits!  Had a 2 in 12 chance of finishing off the enemy.  Rolled max damage!  Finally made the save!

Mits HP: 12-5=7+13+13=33/38 Surges 5-2=3 of 7  Value 9(+4=13)

Adam groans and slowly starts pulling himself up from off the floor.  "Everyone alright?  Erm... Alive at least?  I can hear Mittens, but where's Matt?!"

He's about to dart to his feet to go looking for his friend.

  Matt gives one last Hammer Time to the fallen Spiner's head, both on principle and just in case.  "Still standing Adam, be right with you... Nice shot by the way Mittens." That said, he wanders back to the others.

  So, from a statistical standpoint which of the two Fighters was in better condition now?  The one with 3 Heal surges left but no Death counter, or the one with 6 surges left but 2 out of three death strikes?

  "The good news is, I'm not blaming myself for that whole insane mess.  So hey, progress?  Those crown pieces aren't going anywhere.  It's serious break time once we know we are sure this is a safe stretch of scenery."

Angel smiles upon seeing Matt. "Good... everyone accounted for. I can see why the goblins believed us totally out of our league. This fight was a bit of a challenge and some of us came knocking at death's door." She eyes Adam and then Mittens. "I know we do this kind of thing regularly, but aren't either of you at least a little shaken from being that close?"

Carla reaches to grab Adam's left hand and Mittens' right hand. Should neither prevent her grabbing, she then rubs her cheeks against the hands and kisses them. Then smiles over towards the others.
