Re: The Game is Afoot...

In reply to Simulacrum (msg # 426):

I forget how much DR Sanjar applied on us, but I don't think it was 12.
So that 11 damage drops to 9 from my armor and I still end at -4 hp in the leg.

I failed the trip check but made the resilience so I'm in fighting shape, just prone.

Intentions are to stand for CA 1, parrying if necessary. If I get to CA 3 and haven't parried twice I'll attack.

Statement of intent:

If Gorkas appears to be focusing his attention on finishing off Tanek, I'll stab at him for both CA's.  If he changes to direct his attention to me, then I'll parry twice and stab once.

Should Gorkas attack me and miss, then I'll forfeit the parry to preserve the CA for another attack or parry.

Rhaskos will ready his last javelin and continue manuevering to flank and throw when ready.  The sight of Tanek hitting the ground widens his eyes and makes him rush forward with the throw, readying his own spear after the weapon is loosed and prepping for a charge.

[OOC:  Not sure by which point Rhaskos will be prepared to throw again? /OOC]

Cycle 3

Yet to hear from Sallantus - he was moving fast (Sprint) to keep up close behind Tanek and Kordan. That leaves him an action now...

Orinastron has a shot this cycle but no clear target. He can take his shot but under firing into melee rules...

Rhaskos is grasping his last javelin (he still has 3 right?) ready to loose it next round.

All other CAs are done for round 2

Orinastron will stick to his original statement of intent (#415)...  Tanek and Kordan are in contact now and Gorkas is obscured, Orinastron is slinging his bow over his shoulder and running towards the mêlée as he draws his sidearm in an attempt to flank Gorkas and impale him from behind.

As the beast concentrates on Tanek, Sallantus chops with his axe.

[08:12, Today: Sallantus rolled 47 using 1d100. Attack vs Gorkas (68).]

If Gorkas doesn't evade or parry, or fails to do so, Sallantus' axe sweeps down towards the monster's right leg (can he hit the one that Kordan hit?) [CM: Choose Location]. If he can't reach he right leg, Sallantus is going for a trip [CM: Trip].

[08:20, Today: Sallantus rolled 2,2 using 1d6+1,1d2.
08:20, Today: Sallantus rolled 2,2 using 1d5+1,1d2. Sallantus' Battle Axe damage.
A typo in my first dice roll is dealt with by the dice gods! 4 points of damage, either way]

In reply to Tanek Sanasin (msg # 434):

Recap Cycle 2...
As Tanek's leg is taken out from under him with a swipe of Gorkas' great club, Kordan piles in and strikes home, eliciting a great gout of blood from the massive thigh of this man-beast.

Cycle 3...A moment later, and another javelin comes clattering through, drawing no blood

[GM note - not happy about javelin doing no more damage than an arrow...hmmm may need some house rule here].

..but there appears Sallantus, craftily following his comrades in their charge, and at the last moment taking a small bite of hair hide and flesh out of the creature's wounded leg

[NB - 3AP tough hide - only 1HP left in the leg after Kordan's spear charge reduced so to 0 for a serious wound!]

Gorkas fails his resilience check, and the mighty bellowing beast sinks to the ground! He's down - but not out of the fight yet...

Orinastron is running forward - CA 3 move 8m while stashing bow/drawing sidearm...following which he is 28m from the fight at the start of next round.

Re: The Game is Afoot...

Orinastron will close as fast as possible.  However, given Gorkas is now down on the ground he doesn't see the sense in closing within its reach simply to stab it with his sword.  Better to stand a short distance back and simply fire arrows into it until it expires.  Thus, Orinastron will cease drawing his sword as he runs and recover his bow and an arrow.  If he is close enough by CA 3 to have an unobstructed shot he will do so otherwise he will manoeuvre to obtain one.

Re: The Game is Afoot...

Sallantus will keep hacking away, attacking on when his CA roll round. He had thought about trying to capture the beast, and by selling, exhibiting, or some other way making a few months of shore money. But if the monster is being struck through with spears...

15:23, Today: Sallantus rolled 28 using 1d100. Attack vs Gorkas (68 + 20 [prone] = 88).

Presuming that Gorkas doesn't manage a parry, Sallantus will Choose Location: Head

15:24, Today: Sallantus rolled 6,2 using 1d6+1,1d2. Sallantus' Battle Axe damage.

Ist Cycle

Rhaskos arms himself with spear for an attack

Orinastron is running, skirting round, looking for an angle to use a bow

Gorkas delays and attempts to parry Kordan's attack and fails

Kordan's spear bites home again to the left leg, drawing blood

Tanek is hauling himself up onto his feet

Sallantus snacks the beast on his horny head with his axe, causing a wound

The damn thing won't go down...

2nd Cycle

Rhaskos charges home, his spear makes a mark - but the disarm attempt fails (Gorkas crits)

Gorkas takes a swipe at Sallantus but its a wild stroke from the ground and easily avoided ....

I believe I have another attack coming up

09:05, Today: Kordan Mardahar rolled 59 using 1d100. attack roll.
(hit due to prone bonus, if Gorkas is standing by my SR then this is a miss)

09:05, Today: Kordan Mardahar rolled 3,3,1 using d20,d8+1,d4.

CM = choose loc, left leg again, if no CM then hits right leg.  Rather a glancing blow of 4 damage, but it might be enough on the injured leg...

Re: The Game is Afoot...

In reply to Simulacrum (msg # 441):

2nd Cycle...(continued)
Orinastron has sprinted into place where he can get a shot and can reload on his 3rd CA. But the monster is down and obscured, and as your teammates are hacking and stabbing away at this huge man-beast as fast as they can possibly manage, it's a -40 to hit (darkness, plus crowding) and if you roll under skill but fail, you have an automatic hit friend result.

Kordan stabs again at Gorkas's leg, and again draws blood - the beats is now howling in rage and distress, bleeding from head, chest, abdomen and arm, two feathered arrow shafts sticking out of his body, his leg limp and useless, forcing him to fight from the ground until what appears now to surely be an inevitable death.

Sallantus has another blow he can take this cycle (he did declare he'll keep attacking when his turn comes up), I do note Sallantus is now inside the creatures club reach and he should not have had the option to hit Sallantus, but he missed anyway so that's that. Kordan is to Gorkas' front, Rhaskos to his left, Sallantus to his right, Tanek picking himself up to Gorkas' rear.

Cycle 3 Orinastron notches an arrow, Tanek, Rhaskos and Sallantus all have an attack they can make, Kordan can have a shield strike if he wants to.

Cycle 4 - and Sallatus has a fourth attack if he wants to try a shield bash...There are now four characters all trying to get a piece of this monster in close combat.

Looking ahead to next round - If Gorkas not out for the count, Orinastron and Rhaskos both get an attack prior to Gorkas attempt to clobber one of his persecutors.

Sallantus: 2nd Cycle

14:43, Today: Sallantus rolled 86 using 1d100. Attack vs Gorkas (68 + 20 [prone] = 88).

If Gorkas doesn't parry, Sallantus will Choose Location: Head

14:44, Today: Sallantus rolled 4,1 using 1d6+1,1d2. Sallantus' Battle Axe damage. [so 5 damage]

Sallantus: 3rd Cycle

(presuming that nothing changes...)

14:47, Today: Sallantus rolled 22 using 1d100. Attack vs Gorkas (68 + 20 [prone] = 88).

Again, if Gorkas doesn't parry, the shield is coming down on his head.

14:49, Today: Sallantus rolled 4,2 using 1d4,1d2. [so 6 damage]

So, presuming that nothing changes, Sallantus rains down blows upon the poor beast's head. This is grim work, and the flush excitement fades as the the fight turns from battle into slaughter.

btw, this was a mistake - I changed the dice type to D100, but left the custom dice on the right - 14:47, Today: Sallantus rolled 5,2 using 1d6+1,1d2. Attack vs Gorkas (68 + 20 [prone] = 88).

Oh look at that!

Choose location: Left Leg (as it's only hanging on by a thread right?)
Bypass armour.

10:05, Today: Tanek Sanasin rolled 4,1 using 1d8+1,1d2. Spear damage.

If it gets to me, 5 damage bypassing armor to the L.Leg ought to finish Gorkas off.

Orinastron won't take an obscured shot - there seems no urgency.  The beast is down and the others are crowded around it alternately trying to stove its skull in with their shield rims and impale it with their spears. From where Orinastron now stands this appears to be just a matter of time.  Orinastron will advance slowly, bow ready in case a shot is needed to support the others.

2nd Cycle (still going!)

The blows rain down on Gorkas, as everyone stabs, hacks and beats at the monster with everything they have.

Sallantus' axe glances off the monster's horns...then

3rd Cycle

Rhaskos gets in first and manages to get his spear at Gorkas' head, drawing blood and eliciting another howl from Gorkas, his monstrous face flecked with bloody foam; Orinastron hovers in the background, uncertain whether to shoot, his bow still bent in case an opening appears...then from behind, Tanek, hauled to his feet despite a badly hurt leg, plants his spear in the open wound left by Kordan's own thrust and bites deep.

Even as Sallantus brings his shield rim into the creature's head, Gorkas is slipping down, a great, heaving mound of blooded flesh and hide taking shallow, rasping breaths, his gnarled club slipped from his grasp, his great cow-eyes still open, staring up at his killers - perhaps in animal rage, perhaps in fear - awaiting the coup de grace.

This fight is over.
