Up and at 'em
At
Salen's shout the Rangers make their move, dashing either to aid the Condor brave or head up the rope to flank their attackers.
Beneath the overhang there's a metallic *Ding* as
Zonta hoists up her shield and taps it twice with heavily ringed fingers. As the Iron glows briefly the old woman smiles and readies her javelins
"Bring it on."
Out in the open
Ohanzee has to hold on as
Wihakayda bucks beneath him. Turning the brave sees two arrows have thudded into his thick hide. Ever so briefly he spies movement above the Eastern Cliff as someone or something ducks down out of sight. . Of the fabled Big Mouth there is no sign...Yet...
To the North
Salen is reached by
Haratt and finally
Hoskar, who after a mumbled conversation and a flash of magic behind a handy rock, suddenly dash off on mass into the Northern gully at twice normal speed. They're followed by several hissing arrows that smash harmlessly off the ground behind them.
--------------------------------
Before ascending the knotted rope
Melock and Amara use the bone silence matrix, both trying to ignore the sudden rush of hunger the magic causes, and then using their companions' mad rush as a distraction they shimmy up the rope,
Amara helping to push the struggling Raven from below.
Once there
Amara and Melock flit from rock to rock, quickly finding a small group of three, near naked Impala braves huddled near the edge of the cliff and in the middle of what seems an argument. At their feet is a bound and gagged
Fireborn and just visible behind some nearby rocks, seven skittish riding Impalas, covered in yellow and ochre paint. The braves sport in their topknots red feathers, with their faces painted with the same yellow as their mounts. In their hands are readied bows, shimmering with magic.
"Come on we should skedaddle, 'fore they get up here."
"Nah we can't leave de boss can we?"
"Screw him, he ain't my boss"
"Watch it youse or I'll tell him."
After a whispered conversation
Melock slinks off to the right, it having been decided that on his mark they would both let loose missiles before closing to attack.
--------------------------------
Meanwhile
Salen, Hoskar and Haratt have crested the top and are immediately set upon by four whooping Impala braves, who firing their bows at the approaching Rangers run from rock shouting abuse.
Haratt takes an arrow in the shield and then the thigh, making him stumble and causing his flaming javelin to arc upwards in to the afternoon sky. With his back against a large boulder the Sun Hawk tugs the arrow free and casts several charms to stop the bleeding.
Salen vaults a rock, landing on top of a snarling Fire Feather brave, who reaching for his stabbing dagger gets simultaneously bitten by
Mordy and headbutted by the infuriated Condor warrior. Sitting up
Salen's face registers a look of surprise at the double *Thwack* that fills his ears.
Looking down he can only stare at the two arrows that have appeared in his chest and abdomen.
Oblivious to this
Hoskar, An arrow in his shield and whose call for surrender has been met by a hail of both insults and missiles, now finds himself rounding a large boulder, right behind a hiding Impala brave, his attention on
Salen whom he'd just shot.
*Bash*
Hoskar bludgeons him without a second thought, sending the brave to his ancestors with a flurry of magically enhanced blows. An arrow ricochets from the rock by his face and turning he sees two braves bounding off, one sagging as he's taken in the lower back by a javelin.
Haratt!
Injured the Impala brave slips from view. Both escaping braves heading South along the cliff edge.
--------------------------------
The three braves hearing shouts to the North stop their arguments to look in that direction, bows readied to fire. They're about to move off when a sling shot takes one in the side of the head dropping him to the ground, his companions turn in surprise and that's when
Amara hurls her first javelin. Like
Melock's it's a corker of a shot, but the target must have seen
Amara move as he dives out of the way at the last second. Then it's on for good and old, as
Melock appears from the shadows kneeing one brave in the goolies and parrying an arrow with his shield.
With a howl
Amara is amongst them and it's two against two. The
Vingan sideswipes the one holding his nether regions with her shield and he's quickly dispatched by
Melock. During this, the one previously hit by
Melock's sling shot gets up and begins stumbling towards his Impala.
From behind, the third Impala buries his dagger in
Melock's shoulder, which is pulled from his grasp as the Raven brave moves out of the way. It's then that two other Impala braves arrive, one holding a blood soaked javelin in his hand.
Melock's right arm hangs useless from the blade impaled in his back.....
Shrugging off a Disruption, aided by her counter magic charm,
Amara raises her shield to take on the newcomers. But they veer off, aiming for their mounts, one of which is now bounding off into the distance, a still reeling Impala brave on it's back..
The final brave, now blade-less, is also turning to run, when a leg juts out to entangle with his, causing him to stumble and fall.
Fireborn! The Sun Hawk brave, still on the ground arms and legs bound, gives the fallen Impala brave another double boot for good measure.
The Impala braves stops struggling as
Amara instinctively spears him between the shoulder blades.
