Re: Battle Royale #5: Afrezza vs. Josep vs. Kazan vs, Lainadan

Do you need line of sight to perceive someone with your perception check? I have been assuming so, but am I wrong? Because I could perceive an invisible person, or someone in an Obscuring Mist. So, can Afrezza pinpoint Lainadan, Kazan, and/or Josep from his current position so long as he hits the DC of stealth+distance? I am thinking I may have given Kazan the wrong info.

I'm not sure about ruling, but i assume we could. Perception can be other senses too (hearing, smell, feeling vibrations, etc...). However, i think i missed the perception check due to distance earlier. (+1/10 feet)

Re: Battle Royale #5: Afrezza vs. Josep vs. Kazan vs, Lainadan

You can pinpoint without line of sight.
Technically, you might not be able to recognize who's Kazan and who's Josep, but I don't think we'll go into that.
Actually if you had straightforward line of sight (no cover, no concealment, normal lighting), you would not even need a perception check to pinpoint someone, unless they were using Hide in Plain Sight.
 see: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/stealth

Also, consider we're using Hidden on the Map now.

<tt>Afrezza feels the weight of the air in the arena, heavy with tension. The hair on the back of his nexk stands up and a chill runs down his spine. Danger is near....

Earnest, the scorpion, skitters along nervously, but oblivious to his surrounding. Afrezza scans the arena, and he thinks he hears someone shifting in a far corner. Suddenly he throws out his hand and shouts an arcane phrase. A blossom of gold specks erupts from nothing and covers everything in the area along one wall. He quickly steps forward to close on the glittering location.

You can call the "48 hour rule" and the GM will post for him a full defense action, as well as probably rolling his will save. After the GM responds you continue as normal.

Re: Battle Royale #5: Afrezza vs. Josep vs. Kazan vs, Lainadan

OOC: Okay, just FYI

Exclusively Banned Stuff:
Automatic success effects such as Magic Missile which always hits or Waves of Fatigue which allows no save or Power Word spells. All unwilling effects that target creatures and attended objects must have an attack roll, combat maneuver check, opposed skill check or saving throw which negates or reduces their effect. All effects creating conditions must allow a saving throw to reduce or negate the duration (even if they already have an attack, CMB or skill check). Otherwise, they are banned.

Allowing Banned Material: However, banned feats, spells and items may be altered to allow them into the game. Magic Missile, for example, can be altered to be a ranged touch attack and Waves of Fatigue can be altered to allow a Fortitude save to reduce the duration to 1 minute. A player can only request banned material in the Sheetwork Thread AFTER they have been approved and only 1 class, feat, item or spell request can be made per post. Duplicate requests for the same class, feat, item or spell will result in penalties as if you'd messed up your character sheet (see Arena Competition Rules).

Line of Sight:
[*] AoEs normally immune to miss chance (such as scatter shots and spells with saving throws) still roll miss chance but deal half damage on a miss as if by a passed saving throw (though the target does not receive the benefits of Evasion if the attack missed only due to concealment). This does not stack with the damage halving from an actual successful save or Improved Evasion.

Hidden on the Map:
Hidden On the Map (Optional Rule): Hiding characters still reveal their position on the map during PvP. However, if an attacker fails to pinpoint their space with a successful Perception check, then they improve their current cover benefits against that foe by two steps to a max of total cover (no cover -> partial cover -> cover -> improved cover -> total cover). This is in addition to concealment miss chances that remain in place for invisible characters and they retain concealment should their foe find them until the start of their next turn. If underwater (or suffering a similar revealing condition, see above) they increase it by only 1 step. In addition to this, attackers must make their free Perception checks at the start of their turn.

1) Glitterdust must be modified to allow a saving throw to resist ALL of its effects (including the glitter itself). I think Will vs. blindness and Reflex vs. glitter makes the most sense. I guess since the glitter doesn't have damage it would be half penalty instead of half damage.

2) Lainadan and Kazan have Cover, spread negates cover, hidden on the map rule boosts their cover 2 tiers, they are treated as having Cover. Fun. This just means they can apply Evasion to their miss chance even though normally they can't (it normally only applies to a Reflex saving throw). And it's a +2 cover bonus to Reflex saving throws.

3) Afrezza needs miss chances due to attempting to hit something he can't see.

4) Lainadan and Kazan need saving throws vs. glitterdust.

5) I suggest we go ahead and get those out of the way. If Lainadan doesn't respond by the time we do, I'll roll his for him and do the 48 hour rule thing.

As much as I hate the hidden on the map rule, I hate having to say "Yes/No" to "Do I see anything" to every single move action for players round by round FAR MORE. It's just very difficult to do hide-and-seek in a Play by Post game, but this is how it can be possible. It's a hell of a lot more easy and fun on tabletop though.

13:36, Today: Afrezza rolled 83,77 using 1d100,1d100 with rolls of 83,77. Miss Chance Kazan / Lainadan >50 hits.
Miss chance is passed on both targets. Afrezza can smell you both :-)

Sorry about that - I didn't think of glitterdust as applying a condition other than blind, but of course it does.

DC 18 Will for blinded condition lasting 3 rounds (new chance to save end of your turn to if you fail the first), and DC 18 Reflex for half stealth penalty from -40 to -20.

Thanks Arkrim.

OOC: No, don't be sorry, you're fine. These were particularly obscure errata because they're each in a different location and Stealth is a very difficult subject to work with on PBP. I did not like having to dig them up and find them but the situation called for it since there seemed to be some confusion on it. So now it's all up to their saving throws as to how this will play out.

OOC: Oh no, it's as hilarious as it is true. Evasion gets around the half damage/effect since we ruled the "effect" is halved like damage.

He is blind while hidden. Or at least I'm just assuming he'd want to remain hidden. Thanks for reminding me.

23:38, Today: GM Arkrim, on behalf of Lainadan Cor, rolled 16 using 1d20+12 with rolls of 4. Stealth.

Looks like someone may actually spot him. But if he doesn't step in soon and post he may just get dropped from the match anyway. :/

Josep was waiting in the dark. The moment Kazan appeared within sight, he pounced on the column and climbed up with surprising skill, his hand and feet sticking to the masonry as if he was a lizard.

He reached the top of the column and looked down at the swashbuckler.

Afrezza smiles back at the swashbuckler, "Hello indeed."

He looks amused as he asks casually "Perhaps you are simply European, but in the arena there is something called 'Personal Space'." He cocks his head as if awaiting understanding, then seeing none he becomes deadly serious. "You are in mine."

He speaks words of power and twists his blade as he casts a spell without opening himself to attack. With a slightly undignified snarl he slashes Kazan with his electrically charged blade. The weapon cuts into his opponent and discharges its energy with great force. "Let that be a lesson in manners," he adds as he steps away.
