As the creatures head comes out of the hole, Alvin swings his sword down... allowing for the ceiling.

The creature hisses as its steaming blood sprays from the
Wound  Alvin caleaved into its shoulder, and it spits a glob
 of bloody mucus at him, but the wound threw it off balance
and the gobbet of sludge strikes the opposite wall behind him

Melchizadek sunbolt does no better, hitting the ground ahead of it as it stops to spit.

Alvin, feeling Jocelyn's spell take hold attacks the creature

The first attack is well delivered but the creatures movements limit it's effect.

The slorn collapses, splaying its eight legs, as Sorsha's
stone  missle catches it in the throat. Alvin's first strike, meanwhile, had cut deeply into its side, the second glanced
 off of the scales on its foreleg.

Melchizidek is able to locate the main poison sac, but discovers it to be damaged. There is enough monster drool to coat one sword sized weapin right now, but it is oozing away.
