Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

OK, fine consolidation time.

Opal passes her fly check to hover in place and stays right the heck where she is and does what her action line says she does. staying in place should suffice for not moving through the webbing so i don't need to make CMD checks or escape artist checks
Svog stays in C2 and takes total defence.

And finally here is the "updated" map (even though Opal and Svogs positions have not changed)

OOC: Look drama queen, you didn't need to fix anything after my last post I was just explaining to you WHY I was asking about your flight and WHAT you were doing about. Don't give me an attitude like some teenage girl talking back to her parents or I WILL slap you with a penalty.

Foo dog and Invisibility I wrote incorrectly. Should be 03/50 and 2/50 respectfully. I was so occupied with your stalling rules I wrote what I was thinking as opposed to what it was and foo dog followed being one step sooner.

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

"Jace, I advise you summon the nastiest monster you can. I can empower it with the will of a hero is need be." opal says as she peers through the webs and shoots a bolt of lighting through the webs towards her foe. Unfortunately, Jayce's eidolon and Svog were caught in the blast but Opal had angles the bolt in such a way that the Foo dog and Xin would remain unharmed after all was said and done.

07:49, Today: Madam Opal rolled 28 using 8d6 with rolls of 5,1,4,1,6,1,6,4.  Lighting bolt Damage, DC 20 Reflex for half. (Well, that wasn't nearly as rewarding as i had hoped.)

07:57, Today: Madam Opal rolled 18 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 14.  Svog Reflex vs Opal's lighting. (Fail, even with haste boost refactored in.)

SUMMARY: Opal launches a lighting bolt forwards, destroying the webbing in front of her and penetrating the Clockwork Mage's spell resistance. The Clockwork Mage and Jayce's eidolon must make a DC 20 Reflex save for half damage. The Clockwork mages takes half again as much damage as normal (14 on failed save, 7 on successful save.)

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

Foo Dog
ACTION: stony defense (immediate)

Just in case the info is needed, Sasha fails on purpose. Taking 28 damage.
Sasha is dying and helpeless, in case Dummy wants to move or something.

Foo dog, as an immediate action, gains hardness 8, takes half damage from lightning, and takes 6 damage to its hp.

Foo dog's speed is reduced by 10ft.
Stone, hardness 8: 28/2 = 14 - 8 = 6.

Unless the action stands, I'm guessing opal is aiming at Dummy's feet hitting the floor of the square, and Foo Dog takes no damage.

Regardless of the ruling, presented everything for Dummy's turn not to be delayed.

Shout out to Latro Dectus. Remember the weapon cord?

09:39, Today: Jayce the Tamer rolled 8 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 3.  Foo dog possible reflex.

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

OOC: I suppose if you aim for a wall you can avoid hitting Xin but I can't find an angle that would hit the dummy without also hitting the foo dog (if we're talking about a straight line that does not include your own space). However, everyone gets the cover bonuses from the web, not sure if that saves svog or jayce's pets. See Errata & Rulings about casting things blindly through cover.

The mechanical monstrosity, taking damage, goes on murderous rampage.

OOC: Actually, I think that was clever Jayce. You blocked the dummy from getting into the defensive position I wanted and you're trying to kill your own eidolon. I know exactly why you're doing that. Very clever. You're thinking several steps ahead...the way I do. ;-)

Xin, were you saying that you're not shooting Sasha? You're shooting the dummy? From the flavor text that seems to be the case. I'm just verifying.

Hey GM, before I continue with my next post, id like to ask for a map update on the web spell now that it's been one full round since casting my lightning bolt spell and the webbing has fully finished burning away as it takes 1 round for the flames to finish burning.

quote:
Web creates a many-layered mass of strong, sticky strands. These strands trap those caught in them. The strands are similar to spiderwebs but far larger and tougher. These masses must be anchored to two or more solid and diametrically opposed points or else the web collapses upon itself and disappears. Creatures caught within a web become grappled by the sticky fibers. Attacking a creature in a web doesn't cause you to become grappled.

what parts of the web, if any at this point collapse in on themselves and crumble?

and also, svog passes his save from the cover bonus granted to him.

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

OOC: I already removed all the webbing that was in the path of your spell. Just look at the map. All the other letters listed there are creatures not difficult terrain marks.

If Svog's roll changes to a success, the Dummy would've dealt all those attacks to Svog instead of the foo dog anyway. So nothing changes.

If you're concerned about the webbing catching fire:
quote:
Any fire can set the webs alight and burn away one 5-foot square in 1 round. All creatures within flaming webs take 2d4 points of fire damage from the flames.

So, if a fire spreads then everyone in the webs adjacent to your lightning bolt area will take 2d4 fire upon your next turn (including you) and then be free of the web upon the end of your next turn. ("you" being Opal, not the other person)

OOC: I would like to take 2D4 damage. Please, let the fire spread so I can get out of this web. Hahahaha.

Right, i'm aware of that. I just wasn't sure if that whole "diametrically opposed bit" caused any more that what was shown to crumble and fall.

As for the fire spreading, the webbing does not say that it spreads but it makes since that it would at the same time cause its all flammable and whatever so just tell me if i get a save or something to half the damage from the fire. If i do, then we'll all assume that the entire web spell is slowly burning up every round. If not, then i guess fire doesn't spread in Pathfinder. :P

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

OOC: Good point. It doesn't specifically say it spreads, it just says "dealt", which implies targeting. So I guess it has no effect on the web except in the area of effect that the lightning bolt was actually in unless we errata it to spread. Hmmm. No unbiased way for me to call this one...or is there...?

And the diametrically opposed bit would only be an issue if you'd been flying above the +4 pillars that are spread throughout the webbing. As is, the walls and pillars provide plenty of wall space to keep it in tact.

OOC: We can't keep waiting on the poll. We're assuming it burns as we have in the past for now. That means Madam Opal and Jayce and the frog are taking 2d4 fire damage and are free of the webs upon the end of madam opal's next turn. You're up opal.

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

I'm guessing i still get a save for half damage at the web's DC seeing as no damage is automatic, right?

In reply to Madam Opal (msg # 53):

OOC: Yup. Everyone does. I'll just assume it's reflex vs spell dc despite the grapple thing. In a game of rules, it's about the balance...not the sensibility. LOL. *improved evasion in an atomic explosion for the win*

Re: Monster Hunt #15: Welcome Home Traveller

Sorry to drag this on for longer than needed, but i was under the impression that cover in the arena granted the same thing as concealment against area spells which is 20%. If the roll on the concealment was a 33, doesnt that mean that the bolt struck true against the dummy and he'll take the full amount of damage on his failed reflex save or did i miss something when looking things over? Cause as i read the map, theres only 15 feet of web between me and the dummy, not 20 feet which is required for total cover and the total concealment miss chance of 50%.

and to help move things along for when i finally do get around to posting my full turn -

07:45, Today: Madam Opal rolled 5 using 2d4 with rolls of 2,3.  On fire web damage.
07:45, Today: Madam Opal rolled 8 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 3.  DC13 Reflex vs spreading fire.

Opal fails her save agains the spreading fire.

In reply to Madam Opal (msg # 55):
Good question. I presumed it included your space but you're not including the space you're in even though you're small and don't fill it. Eghad, I don't want to do all that math again or hold another poll over it. I'm not going to retcon, I wish you had said something before everyone took their turn.

Hmmm, tell you what, pick an option:

-Kill dummy's summons instantly right now (including the frog...for some reason).
-Deal the other 50% damage to dummy instantly right now.

That way I'm not cheating you a benefit from your strategy but I'm also not retconing four people's turns.
