Gat snarled and snapped at the legs of the creature near the fire, but was unable to find purchase.

The four scaborous beings raked their claws at the camp defenders, but all their attacks were evaded except for one of the two against Usopi..but his armour saved him from injury.

Usopi scowled at the two handed blade, wondering if perhaps the thing truly is sentient and dislikes being told who to kill.

He shakes off the thought and returns his attention to the creatures, bringing the two handed sword back around to strike at one of them. "You seek the flesh of man, creatures?! Then you must also taste his steel!" He howled in their ravenous faces as fire and arrows flew past.

Brannon ducked under the huge things swing and plunged upward with his sword, scoring a deep slash in its abdomen. Gat darted in and sank his teeth into the edge of the wound brannon had caused ripping it wide open and causing black blood to sluice down over the hound.

The creature harried by Brannon and Gat lurched forward and raked its hooked claws across Brannons stomach, as he looked down to see his innards still safely incased in his hauberk he did not regret purchasing it for a moment.

The other looming horrors swung at Usopi but it almost seemed as if Moralltach guided him to avoid the raking claws. Lann was not quite so fortunate as both the creature he was facing and the other just arriving ripped and tore at him battering him to the edge of endurance...but the Mercanian maille held...just...

Lann strikes again. However, again his blow goes wide....leaving him open...

Caith moved up beside Lann and thrust her staff at the late coming creature, the hard wood smacked against its flesh with a vibration that hurt her hand but seemed to do nothing to the loathsome creature, though she noted with satisfaction that the fire had left a brand before it had burnt out.

Angered, the one that Caith had struck lashed out...not at her but at Lann and its hooked claws looked certain to strike him when he creature staggered suddenly as if confused. The other creature also struck out at but it too seemed burdened by some strange malady.

But Gat ducked in beneath and sank his teeth into the creatures ankle but was unable to pierce the thick rubbery flesh. As the loyal hound retreated the creature kicked out and Gat yelped as he was thrown some distance away.




Usopi continued to hack and chop at the two beasts, determined to avenge his comrade, even if only against one monster. Unable to land a hit he was able to duck one of their blows but the other slammed into him and the claws ripped jagged tears in his breastplate....though did not penetrate his gambeson.

Usopi howls as his blade continues to miss its mark but his armor holds against the troll’s attacks. It seems as though they will stand against each other for time immemorial unless Moralltach can find some notable purchase on Usopi’s opponents.

Gat's howl of pain settles the matter, as she sidesteps the fey's reaching claws, pulls a bottle of black dust from her belt pouch and hurls it into the campfire.

Only the fire hears her whispered plea of "Lady Brigantia, lend us your forge's heat..."

Extrapolating from a flour mill explosion she had witnessed as a child and the knowledge of iron filing ignition she had picked up around forges as an older woman, Caith knocked the lid off the bottle and wafted up her cloak and dress to lift the resulting cloud of powder high above the fire and above human, and hound, head height.

As the cloud of particules began to settle a spark kicked off from the camp fire found it and suddenly the entire campsite was lit up in stark relief as a ball of fire blossomed above the camp fire. The four trolls being held back by Usopi and Lann were too far away to be effected but the one fighting Brannon and Gat was close enough to be caught in the explosion.

Lanns opponent smashed down on him with a clawed hand driving his feet into the soft soil and peat, but though the wind was knocked from him his armour protected him yet again. Caith was not as lucky, as huge claws raked across her as she turned back from throwing the iron dust tearing open her side and sheeting red blood down her dress...

Brannon looked to the hound with concern, and went to swing his blade but then the creature was caught in some sort of fiery conflagaration. It stood for a moment after and then it crashed to the ground like some tall sickly tree, its head and shoulders blackened and blistered.

Brannon and Gat ran forward, Gat to Caiths side and Brannon between Usopi and Lann.

In any other situation Usopi might have been distracted by the grand explosion erupting from their campsite, but in his drive for vengeance he only noticed the flame as a brief illumination of the foes in front of him, continuing to strike at them with his magical sword that seemed unwilling to act as blatantly as it had in the past.

Glad that his spell has some effect and seeing an Enemy down, Lann brings his shortsword up and attacks the  nearest foe hoping to sink his blade in. This time, he finally gets lucky and the blade that was once Chlainn's sinks into the beast.
