Damn.

Glock fans, I see.  I own a 19 with night sites, endit.

I'd rather talk cars than guns.  I am simple when it comes to guns, I have a couple handguns.. sure, and a few rifles, which usually get a decent 3-9x40 scope.  I like 270, low recoil, great accuracy and damage.  Made for hunting.

I am no fan of carrying a gun, and even in these times don't.

.357 Sig is a decent round, shot in the G31 and a Sig model while we had a visiting department with us.  I like the old school P226's and this one was a very comfortable shooting round.

Big Glock fan.  Only one of my off-duty guns I carry is a Glock.  The other, and my favorite is the S&W Shield in 9mm.  Concealable and a great shooter!

Our department carries the full size S&W M&P in 9mm.  Best semi-auto they've put out.

I'm the opposite, cars aren't my thing at all.  However, I'm far from being an expert in weapons & tactics.  .270 is a nice shooting round as well!

Re: OOC4

Glocks are great because they're simple, reliable & can be modified or build ground up easily with a multitude of parts & almost no specialized tools.

I got an Israeli LEO surplus P228 (P226's little brother) that's great for a 9mm, after I had it worked on a little.  It was quite well used.  I have also heard good thinga about the M&P, which is nice, since I've heard the opposite about most of their previous semi-autos.  The only S&W I currently have though is LEO surplus Model 19.

Glocks are basic and good starter guns that you could also make good competition or carry/duty guns.  Plenty of mods and companies out there if you want to step it up from stock, which works well for most people.

I also owned and carried a P228 many years ago.  Great gun but, I had to modify it to DAO to comply with department policy.  The DA/SA with decocker is preferred.

S&W's wheel guns are unmatched IMO.

I own a S&W M&P in 9mm, and if I carry that is what I usually carry.  I have put more than 1000 rounds down range with it, and am comfortable with it.  Carries well in a Kydex inside waistband holster.  Never had it jam or misfeed.  I own 10 magazines for it so when I take it to the range it gets used hard.

My Glock is OK, just that.  I far prefer my FN hipower, even though the sites are not as nice on it.

And yes, 270 is an outstanding round.  I use that and 280... technically the rifle is 7.62x54 that runs that.. a sporterized Chilean Mauser with a factory rechamber. Astoundingly good gun despite it's age.

Me, I don't need to carry a gun for a living, so I generally don't.

Cool.  I don't shoot boltguns much.  Mostly my No. 4 Mk 1 Enfield (very slick shooter) and my .308 Savage project gun.

In reply to Eric C. Wright (msg # 880):

Here police tend to carry Glock 22 or Glock 17, but the RCMP are issued custom S&W Models 5946 and 3953 (stainless steel with black grips, double-action with a Mountie engraved on the slide).

It's likely that Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers (ex-RCMP) used a 5946 (which he is required to carry) to engage and kill a lone gunman in a terrorist attack on Parliament in 2008.

http://gunwatch.blogspot.com/2...t-at-arms-kevin.html

The CF still issues the Inglis-built Hi-Power but are also now issuing the Sig P225 and P226 (although probably this would not happen in this timeline). Note: the magazines for the Inglis-made Hi-Powers will take an additional round (capacity of 14 instead of 13).

Re: OOC4

For me, both cars and firearms are tools. I understand and use them, but don't find them particularly exciting.

Of course in the UK personal possession of firearms is frowned upon unless you have a really good reason (although I used to attend a local gun club).

I learned to shoot both eyes open (with both longs and shorts)... although my first lessons were from my father on fairground shooting ranges! I have always annoyed them since,  I once went to a funfair with a friend's small boy and asked him which prize he wanted, then won it for him without wasting a shot.

I'm not that good a target shooter. Just competent. For a handgun I prefer Weaver stance, with a longarm I don't really care but my favourite is an archanic thing called the back position which I found in an 1801 manual... you lie on your back and fire between your feet. Very stable, but annoys army instructors (until they see your score).

I can also do one-handed competition-style handgunning, but only with a stationary target. A bunch of students were messing around with Nerf guns and handed me one. They freaked when I took a competition stance (and hit the target).

Many years ago, I had the opportunity to buy one with German Wermacht eagles and matching S/N's, I passed and it sold the next day.  Kicking myself to this day for not getting it when I had the opportunity.  Live & learn...

A P38 is really the only Axis pistol I'd own.  The P08 is too expensive, I have a bad taste in my mouth about Berettas after the M9, and the Nambu is arguably more dangerous to the shooter than the target.

As for a German marked FN Hi Power, it would be cool for a collector piece, but they were wildly unreliable, due to intentional sabotage in the occupied Belgian factories.  I haven't shot a Hi-Power yet, but I will say that so far the 1911 has the best 'feel' in my hand.

Yessir!

I guess I was fortunate in my rolls, I acquired a vehicle (Tactical truck, up-armored) & [5] M-72 LAW's rockets, leaving me [2] dice.  I was thinking of using another for myself and dedicating [1] die for group gear.

Any suggestions on how to use the die or do we want to use both for group stuff?  Open for suggestions...

What?  You don't think the government is going to provide you with all your needs?

My character has *NO* gold, and nothing other than personal equipment.

I'm allowing all the old PCs (Taras, Kel, Keith, Stan, Mac, Thomas to roll for personal equipment and pool equipment dice for team equipment. As well, a personal gold allotment. (Kel's dice will be a little modified as her base will be 1 for the Rank 1 she originally started as.)

To clarify, the new PCs (Eric, Father Nick and an as-yet to be added "Jack MacCready") will not be able to contribute equipment dice to the team pool as they were not formerly part of the team, although they can still roll on the tables if they haven't already. (Although I think Eric and the Padre are already done in this respect.)

Thanks,

Tony

PS: I don't mind gun discussions in OOC, after all, this is a post-Holocaust RPG!

Our (Javiers' and my) culture is one where firearms are accepted primarily for hunting (and occasionally defending against) wildlife. Therefore firearms and firearm ownership skews heavily towards longarms and rural owners, as opposed to relatively few handguns and urban owners.

Personally, I enjoy the topic and discussion of firearms in the same sense one might enjoy fighter aircraft (and I enjoy them as well). But even though I am licenced to own firearms I don't see the need to actually have any, any more than I'd like to own a fighter plane. (I've hunted but I'm not a hunter, there are no ranges nearby, there are costs and risks to home storage as I have a child, and there is little real need because I live in a city.)

Re: OOC4

Well, there is culture and personal history regarding firearms. In my case one of my grandpas was a survivor of the colonial wars in Morocco back in 1921 (still have a medal somewhere). During the Spanish Civil War he was involved in the assault of the "Iron Belt" in Bilbao. After the war he became an intelligence officer with the feared Guardia Civil, mostly keeping an eye on maquis coming from the border. After retirement as a Lt he became a security guard in a chocolate factory.

My other grandpa served during the Civil War in an infantry unit supporting or being supported by Panzer I.

My dad was a cop for 35 years.

Somehow everybody managed to survive wars, tough postwar times and the dark decades of terrorism during the 70s and 80s. Although, along the way, colleagues paid the highest price.

Had my years of serving in different uniforms and capacities with and without firearms. And luckily we still here.

In reply to Stanley Alistair Abbot (msg # 896):

If you chose Twilight Warfare (and I think you did) then it's 1 die per level of rank. If you make a Personality check you also gain the MOS in extra dice.

Dice system:

link to a message in this game

Short answer is roll 2d20. Take the lower. Compare to the TN, which is your PER. The lower you are the better the Margin of Success (MOS). (In other words subtract number rolled from your PER, rolling your PER exactly is 0 MOS. Rolling a 3 on a 6 PER is 3 MOS.)

Additionally, if you are rolling several dice, and more than one would be successful you get an additional 2 MOS. For example rolling 4d20 vs a TN of 10 and you roll 8, 9, 11, 18) your MOS starts at 2 (10-8=2) and is increased by another 2 as the 9 would also be a success.
