Alannon resumes a previous thought "Other things regarding Shorty.  Because he is now a Green Knight, he has been been endowed with the abilities of a Ranger.  He is in fact a Ranger and the abilities will no doubt manifest without him even knowing.  He will even be able to cast spells, although be a bit limited, and will only be able to while wearing the Diadem"

He then motions to Pat & Robert.
"Also since Shorty is now a Knight he will naturally have the service of squires; which Pat and Robert will fulfill. Now, we do not expect them to travel off-world with Shorty, although Shorty can request one of them to accompany him during off-world times.  They both serve Shorty and to a greater extent, Arcturus." Alannon gestures back to Shorty
"This also applies to Shorty, as the Green Knight of Arcturus he serves Arcturus; but as you know first hand Arcturus is not alone.  What affects other worlds can affect Arcturus; therefore we accept that in serving Arcturus Shorty will also aid other worlds and very specifically Delith.  If Arcturus is in need, Shorty will be recalled, as his duty as the Green Knight of Arcturus."

Alannon places his hands behind his back and looks around as if expecting questions.

Warwick whistles in appreciation.  "A ranger?  Very appropriate.  Now, who's going to teach Shorty about squires?"

In reply to Warwick (msg # 63):

Shorty’s mouth opens and closes several times like a fish out of wter.  He looks at Warwick then back at Alannon.    Finally his mouth seems to engage with his brain and he says, “Have many questions.  Not sure where best to start.  My Drud and Elf lard… no  not right… Elf Lord get magic from da Lady.  Elf Lord was ranger too.  He tells me not smart enough to be ranger.” Shorty touches the Diadem on his head, “Head different now.  How get spells?  Drud and Lord pray an sometimes animals come visit dem and then they have magic.  Shorty needs to learn about magic.  Need teacher.” Shorty then looks at Pat and Robert.  “Squire sound like squirrel.  Me think them two get in lots of trouble need teacher too.  Do them have sword and armor?  If going to help protect land, need protect selves too.””  Shorty shakes his head and waots for answeres.

Trysk chuckles and takes another swig of his mead. He seems to be getting a bit tipsy.

"I would suppose your friends and mentors would be able to help you with mage spells."  Alannon replies to Shorty's first question  "And it is true that normally you could not be a ranger, it is because of your Knighthood that the ranger skills were bestowed.  As far as druidic spells, I and Kaine could assist .. maybe a little less tricky than mage spells."  he puts his hand to his chin  "As far a squires .. well, we will equip them and you will be their teacher Shorty.  They will learn by watching you."

Know-Man: "Basic spellcasting Shorty, you shall have much to learn about your new gifts."

Shorty looks around at his friends.  Then he glances at Alannon and Know Man and rubs the back of his head.  “Does learnin Magic mean lotsa of whacks in da head like when learning to use swords and axes?  Learnin kdn hurt sometimes.” Shorty thinks for a minute and then asks Know Man, “Birdie be teaching Baby to use Magic.  Ken Birdie teach me too?  Him not use board.  But Birdie not know Drud magic so still need help.” Shorrty relaxes into his chair.  “So what we work on first?  Next day gonna be busy me thnk.”

Trysk grins, "Well, I guess we should prepare to stay here for quite a while. I'll get to test out this new belt."

Know-Man : "No Shorty, there are no whacks to the back of the head when learning magic.  You could say that would be a bad thing when learning magic.  Birdie would be ok, now you will be on Delith quite a bit so you will need teaching there, perhaps more."

Alannon continues "While on Arcturus I will teach you druidic magic, while on Delith I suppose you could visit Kaine."

"Certainly" Kaine says as he comes walking up from behind after he has been greeting the Arcturus naties.  "You can stop by most anytime."

Alannon:"Thank you Kaine.  I would also suppose he would need an established ranger, someone on Delith, who can teach Shorty the finer points of rangering."

Dualis puts his wine glass on the little table beside him after taking a sip.  "I do not recall doing any adventuring with a ranger or even having an acquaintance with one."  he looks to Morteft, Warwick and Trysk  "Either of you know of one?"

"There were tales of the Heroes of Delith," says Warwick.  "Dualis, ye're name is often mentioned in those tales.  Wasn't there a ranger or two amongst those heroes?"

Dualis clears his throat. "Not necessarily Trysk, we still have much to do on Delith.  Plus we need to go back and pack up Baby and the rest of the clan.  Should do that sooner than later, maybe a few more hours before we go back."

"Sure, we took down Eosense"  Dualis mentions Eosense will a little disdain "A few Troll Kings and others.  I left that group for a while to pursue some personal matters.  Met a few others who helped a bit"  he shakes his head "I do not recall a ranger among them."  he looks into the air  "Of course Finella's personality was so big she tends to blot out other things."

OOC: I actually have most of the posts from those days.  I would have to go back thru to see if anyone was a ranger.

"They are legends to us, Dualis, much like ye are.  But, I think there was a ranger called Leslie, for a time; an offworlder.  But, that was the only ranger I remember from those tales and I don't know what ever became of her.  Aztar was from those days as well, if I recall.  Morteft and I, well, we look at ye as examples of what might become."

"Well, we may be examples, in a way that I hope you do better.  We were not the most fine tuned group .. yes Aztar was there, provided tremendous assistance; which is why I sought him out for some of these tasks.  Too bad though, I am sure he would have found this world fascinating."

Shorty listens for a bit and then says, Ïf only here little while longer then need do some things and then go thank Hicks”.  Shorty first pulls the coin No Man gave him from his pouch.  He concentrates for a few moments and then looks up.  “Telled BBirdie be moving from cave soon.” Shorty then finishes his fruit punch and stands.He points to the pile of treasure near the tree.  “vNeed to takes care of dat too.  Shorty could use govles but not else.  All else needs got fer gifts.  Friends take what want even gloves if need.  Any udder parts fer Shorty, gives to Council to help Arcturus grow strog agin.”  Shorty then moves over to a spot in the grass.  He sits with legs crossed and lays his new sword across his lap.  He places his hand on the hilt and stares at the blade.

"Well, let's just say what items we want and work it out. If someone else wants an item, we can just negotiate it."

He looks over the pile. "I would like the bag of holding the most. After that, I wouldn't mind replacing my bracers of AC 4 with the bracers of AC 3. There are a couple of other items that would be nice, but those two are probably top of my list."

In reply to Morteft (msg # 82):

"I'd like that helm of war and the Mace +4 that's useful to Clerics.  I'm going to have to learn how to dual wield when I fight, but this seems like a worthwhile endeavor."
