In reply to Ken Jenkins (msg # 59):
They are coming down the corridor, so your options are limited to opening up when they notice you, or pre-empting that by firing early. Either way, a successful Tactics roll (TN 7+, add Tactics skill) will allow you to pick the best time. If I had to offer an opinion I would say to let them get to Close range but open up before they notice you because they will go to ground as well, making it tough to take them out.
Blake's carbine doesn't have a "fun switch", it is a semi-auto rifle. He can empty the magazine in "panic fire" (probably a good option) to gain an autofire advantage.
Along those lines, I was toying with adding the Snapshot game rules. These use the same mechanics and modifiers as the basic game (to-hit 7+, etc.) but adds an Action Point cost for actions. For example, a character has APs equal to DEX + END (an average of 12). For example, Linus has 17 APs total. An aimed shot is 4 APs, a Snap shot is 3 APs, movement is 1 or 2 APs (running or walking) per 1.5m square, 1 AP to open a door, etc. This might be too much detail for some players.
As a compromise, we can still use the original combat rules. For firing you may take one aimed shot or fire a single burst from an autofire weapon, or else use "panic fire" to empty your magazine and double your rate of fire at a -4 penalty. As an additional house rule, you may also make up to two snap shots at -2 to hit (you will also strike before those making aimed shots).
