I always liked to combine audible glamour with wall of fog....(otherwise my DM was but have you ever seen a troll?)

Let the imaginations of the enemy run wild as to what is lurking in the fog bank...scarier if you don't see anything other than the patterns your brain wants to see....

Yes big bugs is a fun combo....

Being patient for a patient comes as second nature. Rake care of your wife. My visit to A&E yesterday after a fall at work and the pain, doesn't compare to the dread of a Heart Attack, envisaged or real. Just take care of you too.

I'm sure I will Beverly.

And yes, yes Vincent is.  Not a whole lot of options for images to use though.

As it notes in the extremely short bio line Vincent was cursed by a deity and transformed into one for not realizing what he was trying to steal was the deities current favorite toy.  So no easy remove curse to go back to 'normal'.  A proper Atonement from one of their Priest's after actually atoning for it or a Wish are Vincent's only long term hopes to going back to himself.

https://thefantasytrip.game/about/

above is the tactical hexboard  RP gane  that i  ran after   D&D.... i tried to run it hear, but i can't do the maps like some folks do..and for some reason, people could understand  they  could play the game with out a board (like D&D)..by just dropping the facing.

The first version of the game, i wrote some  things for their Magazine and tried to get some programmed adventures like they sell ( solo  games and Micro grames)..but i never  got published  as  metagaming   closed down...Steve Jackson brought it back,,i bought the  new set..kinds  dumb, sicne there is no one to play here with!

anyway, its  fun and simple. I used some bits  for My own system that i use in my games

Re: OOCC

thanks for the well wishes, life is getting normalish so here i am.

I read Thistle like Magic Missile with the adjustment that the 1d4+1 thistle bunch could have each thistle hit a seperate target for 1 hp damage.  Magic Missile I belove does 1d4+1 damage per missile.

So at 1st level for MM you get two missile that can hit 1 or two targets for 1d4+1 per missile.  Damage = 2-5 per missile
So at 1st level for Thistle get rwo thistle groups that can hit mutliple targets as described in the amount of thistles.  Ex: 2 thistle groups = 1d4+1 thistles with each thistle doing 1 pt damage.  so thats still 2-5 total per thistle group. Up to max of 5 thistles per group.   It gets comlpicated as if you roll a 5 on a d4 you get 5 thistles in that group.  So you could do 5 hp damage on one target or 1 hp to five seperate targets.  Ruling as such - Range/area affect.  Magic Missile is like a 270' arc out 120 feet (can't shoot at something behind you nor turn to cast the other missiles as all missles are at the same time.)  Thistles would have a reduced range of 90 feet and 180' arc.  This takes into account concentration aiming thistles within a peripheral vision.   So yea, you get up to 10 Thistles at 1st level per spell so you could actually hit up to 10 different foes for 1 hp each.   OH and I think ONE last ruling Druids, Rangers and spell casters that can cast MM that where taught by Druids/Rangers can cast this spell.  How does that sound.

Mirror image shield or what other spells you drum up hhmm.  Lets take this one spelll at a time, my head is starting to hurt  but  please send suggestions in as it could even be only a spacific caster know the spell as it was made up by their teacher.

Lastly, This weekend I will create that campaign setting for the newbees joining so look for that.  If your not done no worries, I'll be gentle evil DM chuckle.

Re: OOCC

AD&D 1e & 2e RAW a 1st level magic user gets 1 missile from a Magic Missile spell that does 1d4+1 damage.
It goes to 2 missiles at magic user L3, 3 missiles at  magic user L5 etc.
In 2e this was capped at a maximum of 5 missiles at magic user Level 9 (and all targets had to be withing a 10' cube.

Re: OOCC

Once again we are talking about Chapter 7

Section Titled "Magical Research"
One oft-ignored asset of both wizards and priests is magical research. While the spell lists
for both groups offer a wide variety of tools and effects, the clever player character can
quickly get an edge by researching his own spells. Where other spellcasters may fall
quickly into tired and predictable patterns ("Look, it's a wizard! Get ready for the fireball,
guys!"), an enterprising character can deliver sudden (and nasty) surprises!
Although your DM has the rules for handling spell research, there are some things you
should know about how to proceed. First and foremost, research means that you and your
DM will be working together to expand the game. This is not a job he does for you!
Without your input, nothing happens. Second, whatever your character researches, it
cannot be more powerful than the spells he is already able to cast. If it is, you must wait
until your character can cast spells of an equal power. (Thus, as a 1st-level wizard, you
cannot research a spell that is as powerful as a fireball. You must wait until your
character can cast a fireball.) Finally, you will have to be patient and willing to have your
character spend some money. He won't create the spell immediately, as research takes
time. It also takes money, so you can expect your DM to use this opportunity to relieve
your character of some of that excess cash. But, after all, how better for a spellcaster to
spend his money?
Knowing these things, you should first write up a description of the spell you want to
create. Be sure to include information on components, saving throws, range, duration,
and all the other entries you find in the normal spell listings. When you give your DM the
written description, tell him what you want the spell to do. (Sometimes what you write
isn't really what you mean, and talking to your DM is a good way to prevent confusion.)
After this, he will either accept or reject your spell. This is his choice and not all DMs
will have the same answer. Don't kick and complain; find out what changes are needed to
make the spell acceptable. You can probably iron out the differences.
Once all these things are done, your character can research the spell. Be ready for this
to take some time. Eventually he will succeed, although the spell may not do quite what
he expected. Your DM may revise the spell, perhaps reducing the area of effect or
damage inflicted. Finally, all you have to do is name your spell. This should be
something suitably pompous, such as "Delsenora's Malevolent Steamroller." After all,
you want something to impress the locals!

Re: OOCC

One question I will answer here for all especially newbees:

Your character dies, un healable back to life is when your at -11 HP not 0 HP.  So yes if you take enough damage that takes you right to -11 and beyond without passing go your dead Jim (unless the DM says otherwise).   If you go to 0 your just unconceous and do not "bleed out".  If you are at -1 to -10 and no medical magical or non magical means is used to stop your bleeding you take 1 hp per round till you are dead via bleeding out.  If you are at 0, -1 to -10 and take more damage, yup it stacks and if you go to -11 or beyond you are dead, deader then a door knowb (unless the DM says otherwise),   As a note, to kill a troll (regeneration gifted peeps) you would have to be taken to -11 and beyond so yup even regeneration if you can't regenerate to -10 at the end of your turn, Your dead Jim (unless the DM says otherwise).

Of course there are so many ways to "stop bleeding out" I hope this never applies to anyone.  An extreame Ex: you take fire damage to -10 but the fire actually cauterize your wounds and you stop bleeding your stable at -10 - even to a troll.

Natrually, Raise Dead, Reincarnation, wish and so forth type of spells can be used to convience your soul/essance/whatever to return to the body and live again.

I hope that helps.

Re: OOCC

Well between you and me that'll be one of us Birahu, but I do like you already.  I'll tell you now I've never played a Paladin, so I've got to see if I can do it justice.

I've always been a little bewildered how the class is playable with a 17 charisma, because I've never been in a game with a Paladin that I've really liked.

I think I read in the closed OOC thread there was a discussion about charisma being one of the dump stats, which I get, but disagree with.  (All due respect to everyone, I'm not trying to opening up a can of worms here, it's just my 2cp)

The trouble with charisma is that I don't think most people play the charisma their character has.  Stats like STR, DEX, CON, are forced upon you by the game dynamics, but where I think most gamers fail is that WIS, INT and CHA are stats that are more up to actual role play skill.  In this medium it's all about how we string our words together.  I'm guilty here, as I already know Lenota has an INT higher than my own, so my handicap is that I don't have the INT to do any better.

I've had many laughs playing alongside really skilled players who have played characters with low WIS and/or INT, but only once have I played with someone who played their character that had a low CHA.  There initially needed to be a lot of OOC talk where the player needed to explain the character to smooth things over with the other players.  This is just my opinion but I'd like to see more XP awarded for that sort of role play skill, because that's really where there is a lot of IC character fun.

Now given Lenota has a 17 CHA, my challenge will be to play the class to do it justice, and at the same time, to do it in a way that'll draw other like minded characters to her.  In doing my homework and reading up on a 2nd ed Paladin, I see paying characters off is a definitely no no, which gives me very little else to fall back on.

Given we are playing with comeliness, it helps to be a pretty, but that meant I had to sacrifice a decent stat that probably should have been used on one of those more gritty STATS like STR.
