Re: OOCC

Well between you and me that'll be one of us Birahu, but I do like you already.  I'll tell you now I've never played a Paladin, so I've got to see if I can do it justice.

I've always been a little bewildered how the class is playable with a 17 charisma, because I've never been in a game with a Paladin that I've really liked.

I think I read in the closed OOC thread there was a discussion about charisma being one of the dump stats, which I get, but disagree with.  (All due respect to everyone, I'm not trying to opening up a can of worms here, it's just my 2cp)

The trouble with charisma is that I don't think most people play the charisma their character has.  Stats like STR, DEX, CON, are forced upon you by the game dynamics, but where I think most gamers fail is that WIS, INT and CHA are stats that are more up to actual role play skill.  In this medium it's all about how we string our words together.  I'm guilty here, as I already know Lenota has an INT higher than my own, so my handicap is that I don't have the INT to do any better.

I've had many laughs playing alongside really skilled players who have played characters with low WIS and/or INT, but only once have I played with someone who played their character that had a low CHA.  There initially needed to be a lot of OOC talk where the player needed to explain the character to smooth things over with the other players.  This is just my opinion but I'd like to see more XP awarded for that sort of role play skill, because that's really where there is a lot of IC character fun.

Now given Lenota has a 17 CHA, my challenge will be to play the class to do it justice, and at the same time, to do it in a way that'll draw other like minded characters to her.  In doing my homework and reading up on a 2nd ed Paladin, I see paying characters off is a definitely no no, which gives me very little else to fall back on.

Given we are playing with comeliness, it helps to be a pretty, but that meant I had to sacrifice a decent stat that probably should have been used on one of those more gritty STATS like STR.

Then a man or more like an Elf showed up one day and messed everything up.  How could one Elf no less ruin centuries of life on the island.  Well, first, he caused chaos within the inner circle even worse then one could imagine buy playing one against the other till the inner circle split into factions, 3 to be exact.  that dragged the council of 7 to break and join a faction, one faction got 4 councilors, one faction got 3 and the other faction one councilor to support it.

4 + 3 + 1 = 8. You have one counsilor too many.

Given there was nothing else to go on at the time, I thought it might be an interesting role play conversation to be had in regards to Solomon's origin.  It wasn't/isn't an important detail, but surely he would have wondered himself when he had siblings without wings.  The details don't matter, we're off now anyway.

Re: OOCC

I added the description of the map to my scratchpad.   I often use it for stuff that is important, but not necessary to put on my character sheet.

There are lots of things we can prep that will get us ahead in the long run.

A lot of my character comes out of the ranger handbook, the half elves guide, things like that.

I do not know if either of you have explored the Cantrips in the ring or not, several of them can be useful.

I have always used wrap to make homemade flour bombs, (also good for making white gravy) for invisible stuff, get them powdered like an evil donut and then fairies fire them for long term viewing.....

Re: OOCC

Flour dust is explosive in a confined space as well, though its use to uncover invisible creatures is a great idea.  I've got the details of the wrap cantrip from Unearthed Arcana, do you know if it is different in 2nd ed?

There's no specifics for the length of time the item is wrapped, and the cantrip does say the item can be opened by command.

That leaves me to believe a 1 pound bag of flour could be thrown into a room, and whilst it is in the air the command to open could be given by the caster, causing the contents fall down in a cloud.  Someone else can then throw in some fire and kaBOOM!!  Flourbomb, or instantanteous fire cloud.

If that's how it's gonna work, there's no reason why we shouldn't stock up on a few more than a few.  I'd imagine damage might be in the same range as a flask of oil 1-6hp, and flour should be a lot cheaper.

In reply to 'Lenota of the Light (msg # 566):

Duration is mentioned in the Cantrip spell. Flour bombs are great, I've used them for 30yrs on and off. Cantrip wraps the stuff, then it's done, you'd need something to wrap the flour in or when the cantrip spell ends (1hr/level I think), then the flour may fall apart.

I'm not the GM, but the spell is quite clear as a final, less so as an explanation.
Cast Cantrip and do your housework by using snip, tie, clean, stack, push, pull as much as needed within the duration, it's why the individual Cantrips only gave description.

Re: OOCC

Thanks for the feedback Yardly

So is there an unwrap cantrip, or can wrap be reversed?  I've never played in a game with cantrips (and I'm not playing a spellcaster in this game) so I know nothing about them, just asking for a friend.  :o). If so, unwrap seems better than wrap.  The 'flour bomb' could be manually wrapped by the caster, and unwrap voiced as the bomb is thrown, with another throwing in the fire.  Its a better option really as there would be no time constraint on unwrap.

Re: OOCC

There is a Tie/Untie, so I see no reason for the to not be a Wrap/Unwrap Cantrip, after all, you'd need material to do the wrapping and then something to tie it with to stop it opening again, so the Tie/Untie would be appropriate here.

There is a Non-Weapon Proficiency that Spellcasters can learn, which allowed 4+1/level Cantrips (individual ones) and at 4th level (I'd assume since getting it), you have Unlimited Cantrips. I use this in all 2nd Ed campaigns I run/ran.

Yeah as you say tie/untie would be better suited, but now I think there probably also needs to be another cantrip to puff the flour out into a cloud.  I suppose there's probably a gust cantrip isn't there?  (Too lazy to look right now)  It's starting to sound a little less workable in my minds eye.  Now we really need 2 casters and someone to throw the flame.  I can't see the Paladin doing that, so we're also going to need a 4th party member. lol

Throwing a bag that is untied would have the contents 'fluffing out'. Wouldn't be far away anyway, throw at the ceiling and watch the flour cover the whole room lol
