Re: Battle at the Inn

Phulman has you wait a few minutes while he leaves to find someone.  He returns with a human man about 30 years old, a monk by the looks of it.

Phulman says, "This is Harak Grayston, also a new member of the Regime.  We were looking for some work for him to help the Regime, and since we are now greatly indebted to you, we believe he can help lead you safely out of the city without attracting any unwanted attention."

"Fine by me, friend."

Borimer prepares to follow the monk, careful to check outside the window again for any signs of unwanted activity.

Re: Battle at the Inn

The quiet man takes in the companions he is to lead out of town.  "I am honored to aid you.  We must be quick if we are to escape though.  A look of confident determination is set upon the man's face.  As he moves he seems not to waste any motion, but seems ready to react to anything rather than looking lackadaisical.  His staff and robe make him look downright scholarly, but his body is clearly forged into a tool, or a weapon, like no other.  He waits for the others to be ready to leave.

Harak leads the group safely back out of town and helps you get to where the earthrocs are being kept safe by Naj.

Surprisingly, you see that Grung is here as well.

Re: Battle at the Inn

Kahan bids Phulman an apologetic goodbye before leaving, wishing he could have done something more to help his father than what they accomplished. He placed the scepter and Rajim's severed hand into his haversack. When the monk approaches, the young priest greets him and carefully keeps pace with him, keeping aware of any possible danger. Luckily, there wasn't any, at least not that made itself apparent. "Ah, Grung, or should I say, King Grung." he chuckles, continuing, "I'm glad to see you survived the dwarf compound. What have you been doing since then?"

Re: Battle at the Inn

Addressing Kahan, Grung says "Master Kahan, pleased to see you.  But do just call me Grung.  Iffen I have me way the king will be restored.  Which brings me to why I'm here."

Continuing he addresses the rest of the group and says "I have a proposal.  I have in me possession a magic brooch, the auggiemantium, and orc King medallions.  I care little foren such things, but you may need them.  I do care about helpin to save the world, but I confess to not understand why exactly but I offer me axe in help.  I also care about puttin the king upright.  To do this I need to use the sceptre of Shreekee.  I have a week er so beforen it won't work anymore.  But once I'm done with it I won't need it anymore."

"We need to stop fighting amongst erselfs and work together.  We have a common goal to save da world.  And even if ya don't like the orcs so much, understand that iffen the king dies many wouldn't follow me and there be likely a struggle.  People will die and not just orcs."

Re: Battle at the Inn

Before Grung starts talking, Kahan takes Harak aside and thanks him for his assistance. "You've done the Shadow Guild an admirable service by assisting us. Tell Phulman his debt is repayed." Assuming Harak takes his leave, he returns to Grung to let him finish, as he didn't want anyone else to hear what he had to say.

"Who asked you to retrieve the scepter? Was it the orc king's adviser?" he asked curiously, wondering why he needed it.

Nodding at Harak, Kahan turns his attention to the noise in the woods while waiting for Grung's reply. "Who's out there? Show yourself!" he calls out towards the sound.

Re: Battle at the Inn

Adaran appears from the side of the road, but not from where the noise was heard.

A woman's voice responds, "It is I, Rondelle."  She steps out of the foliage.  "I thank you again for the information on the dragon Ailamere.  News of Silverpalm's death in Faulbane spread quickly, and I have followed you here to give you warning.  Silverpalm's men will be coming for you.  They can follow a trail better than I, so I suggest you do not tarry long. As a fellow member of the Shadow Regime, I wanted to give you warning before an ill fate besets you."

She pauses.

"There is also news that the Orc King is dead.  Whether true or not, havoc is starting to break loose in Faulbane.  Many are rising up against the orcs.  The Shadow Regime may now seize this time to make its uprising and bring the true king to the throne."

She leans on her staff and says, "There is also terrible news of disasters throughout the kingdoms.  Volcanoes, mountains rising from flat land, floods, and more.  It is an evil foreboding."  She starts to turn back.  "I must go now to tend to my people at Faulbane.  Harak here has volunteered to help you on your journey."

Kahan Singh:
"Who asked you to retrieve the scepter? Was it the orc king's adviser?" he asked curiously, wondering why he needed it.

Replying in hushed tones with the arrival of Rondelle lest she overhear him, Grung says "It be the clerics at da Gruumsh temple.  Da king need powerful magic, more than they can provide."

Grung listens to Rondelle speak of the shadow regime rising up against the orcs and crosses his arms and furrows his brow.  Saying to no one in particular he adds "It starts already."

Borimer stands near his comrade Grung as Rondelle gives the ill news.

"Thank you for the warning, good luck with your people."

After giving it some thought Borimer decides to refrain from mentioning the deep evil that stalks the party even as they evade the guild assassins from the city.  He climbs up onto an earthroc.

"Allevia would be a great place to find refuge from...everything chasing us."

Re: Battle at the Inn

Kahan stays quiet while Rondelle is there, not knowing or trusting her enough to bring anything too important up. After she leaves, Kahan turns to Grung and the others and says after some thought, "Honestly, Grung, I am not too sure if resurrecting the orc king would be the best thing. I'm not saying no to your request, but we will have to talk about it before we agree to anything. I do hope you understand." His voice was regretful as he looked to the others for any input.

Re: Battle at the Inn

Adaran, back to his normal appearance now, mounts one of the earthrocs and snorts callously, "Resurrect him? The grave is exactly where that flea-ridden pig belongs. His death is the closest thing to any real justice I've seen in my lifetime. I'll be damned if we use our resources to bring him back to life, after all we've suffered under his rule. The time of the Orcs is over. It's time for the Shadow Regime to rise. This revolt has been a long time in coming." Though seemingly calm, those who have known Adaran for some time detect a coldness in his tone unlike anything he has shown before, as though some deep bitterness is kept just barely restrained beneath the surface.

"You do realize that's Grung's father you are talking about, correct? Have a little decency for the dead." Kahan states coldly, glaring at the rogue with a seriousness that's rarely seen, but harshly felt in his words.

"Decency?!" Adaran shoots back at the priest bitterly, glaring with even colder eyes. "My father was enslaved by that slime's filthy vermin, driven to back-breaking labor and beaten to within an inch of his life. You know their respect for our dead? They throw their bodies in ditches and spit on them. So don't talk to me about decency." With that, Adaran tugs on his earthroc's reins and takes off into the sky toward Syrissa's mansion.

"Be it justice ye seek, or revenge?" Grung calls out to Adaran as he walks away in a huff.

Addressing the rest of the group he adds "True justice is rare and revenge only begets more revenge.  Da King is not me father.  My only connection to him is by blood.  I have no love fer him and desire revenge meself for what he done, but it won't undo the harm he did.  Sumptimes you got to let go."

"In annie case with or without da king, the orcs power is waning.  Wid him though will spare more lives, especially as I'll make sure of it.  Without dere be more turmoil and death."

"I make a reasonable offer.  Adaran says no, but what of ta rest of you?  Or does he speak for all?"

Continuing he adds "Iffen what ye seek is revenge our business is concluded and I wish you the best of luck on yer task.  I will aid you but in my own way and on me own.  Iffen ye want peace let me borrow the sceptre and I will return it and rejoin you."

"Adaran most certainly does not speak for all of us. Unfortunately, he is the one carrying the scepter you seek, and getting it off of him will likely be very difficult now that he knows why we would want it. I knew one day his company would be more of a hindrance than a help..." Kahan stated, shaking his head as he gave Grung an apologetic look, looking to Borimer and the others to see what they have to say on the matter.

Rondelle wishes you luck and takes off into the forest back trails again.

You prep the earthrocs to take off.

Harak knows the way to Syrissa's Chateau, though it is a long way off to the southeast.

"No one said bein' king was gonna be easy, friend.  Adaran doesn't speak for the lot of us.  C'mon, let's get outta here and then speak more at Syrissa's, I don't like waitin' around here."

He gets into the air on his earthroc as soon as everyone is ready.

Nodding, Kahan makes room for one of the newcomers on his earthroc, taking the reins after scooting forward. "You should both come with us. Maybe we can convince Adaran to at least try to reason with the orc king after he's resurrected." he stated.
