Harkahnon Ruins 4 - Levels

You look in at the room marked 20a.

Here is the currently revealed map of areas you have explored:

A 10-foot-diameter hole, ornately edged, gapes in the floor of this room.  Directly above it is a similarly sized hole in the ceiling. A small pedestal sits
against the southwest wall, a diagram barely discernable above it.  There are three small bowls on the pedestal.  The bowls are empty.

The hole in the floor and ceiling appear to lead down to an identical room below and above, and those rooms to identical rooms below and above, ad infinitum.  It is like looking into the infinity of two mirrors facing each other.

Grizz checks the doors to the west to see if they're locked.

"This room makes me dizzy," he says to no one in particular.

Kahan casts a spell, and the grappling hook begins to glow with a bright light.

After tying the 50' length of silk rope to the grappling hook, he started lowering it into the hole, careful to watch the hook instead of looking for anything down the hole. If there wasn't anything down there, he'd pull the rope back up and use it as a torch while he went to open the door into the western room.

"This whole place kinda makes me dizzy."

Borimer answers, his hand on the ivory hilt of Chianta as he keeps watch for any signs of the creature stalking them.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 4 - Levels

As the rope descends, an odd thing happens.  You see the bottom of the rope dip down 15 feet, then 30 feet, and looking up, you see the same rope dropping down toward you.  This appears to be an endless loop of holes in three floors, each floor being 15 feet.

In other words, after about 45 feet of dropping the rope, the top of the rope is dangling in front of your face.

Taking a minute to look more closely, you see that the only difference between the rooms is the placement of the southern door on one of the rooms and the color of the ring around the hole.  Yours is black, the one below you is red, and the one below that is white.  Looking up, it appears that the one above you is white, and the one above that is red.

Below is a diagram.  They are supposed to be all the same size, so ignore my error.  You are at 20a; you can reference the others by 20b and 20c or by color of the ring.

Grizz tries the door to the west.  It is unlocked.

Borimer opens the west doors, eyes to the ground and only periphery vision being used to get an impression of whats beyond.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 4 - Levels

The west door opens, revealing a large kitchen.  (Room 14.)

A massive, dust-covered preparation table stands against the south wall. A large fireplace is located on the western end of the north wall. Next to it, a door leads west and another door leads north. The room appears to be empty, although it has signs of recent use.

Borimer steps warily into the chamber and checks each of the doors to see if they're locked, although he doesn't open any of them.

Kahan scratches his head at the odd hole beneath him (or would it be considered above him?), looking up at where the hook was hanging before pulling it back up. "This is very odd magic. Syrissa, what is the point of this place? Do you have any idea?" the young priest asks, pulling out a gold piece and dropping it into the hole, wondering if it will fall infinitely and eventually achieve terminal velocity.

Syrissa indicates she knows next to nothing about this place or its magics.

The doors are all unlocked.

"Syrissa, would you feel comfortable staying back here with Edmure while we scout ahead? I have a feeling Esylia will come back, and I do not think there is any other way for her to get back to this level other than through these holes. Edmure would likely be very handy in finding Esylia, as long as he keeps his eyes closed and simply listens for her to return." Kahan asks, waiting for her answer before continuing forward with Borimer. "Which door would you prefer to go through first? I have no preference and would likely decide randomly if you don't care." he mentions with a shrug, looking between the two doors.

"Let's see if these west doors can take us back to the room beyond the arrow slits, the one we haven't reached yet."

Borimer leads the way to the west doors and beyond, Chianta's hilt never far from his hand.

Kahan follows along, wrapping the grappling hook's rope around his arm and propping it on his shoulder so his hand would be free.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 4 - Levels

The door to the west leads into a 20' x 15' room (area 13).  A round table
sits in the center of the area, the top warped and leaning to one side. Doors to the east lead to the kitchen (area 14).  There is a door to the west, and to the north, an arched opening leads to the base of a circular staircase winding its way up.

Otherwise, the room itself is empty.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 4 - Levels

Grizz looks at the table.  On the underside, someone has carved crude numbers in the wood with a knife or dagger that read:

"486267825798"

Underneath that is scratched the word:  "DEAD"

The door to the west is unlocked.  There is no sound beyond it.

Harak listens at the stairs and hears something.  It makes a soft "plink, plink, plink" of some ball or round item that is rolling down the stairs, hitting one stair, and then the next as it starts to pick up momentum and come down toward the room where you are at.

Kahan nods and quickly follows the monk (although likely not as quick as Harak), running through the door, careful to keep his eyes on the floor and using his good memory to not run into anything rather than looking ahead in case it was a trap.
