Kahan also has an Ancient Lore proficiency, so he should be able to help Flint identify the scepter.

Non-magically of course.

Borimer continues his vigil over the lich king's corpse while his eyes methodically scan the exits, his hand never far from the ivory hilt of Chianta.

The two items are magical.  (OOC: I did not respond to the identify spell results since it takes awhile to get its results.)

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

Flint comments to everyone "The problem is that I don't sense that the King was a Lich in the traditional definition.  Somehow he was different and more powerful...I just don't know yet what that means with respect to his phylactery.  For those who don't know, a lich's soul is mystically tied to its phylactery, so destroying its body will not kill it. Rather, its soul returns to the phylactery, and its body will be recreated by the power keeping it immortal. Thus the only way to permanently destroy a lich is to destroy the phylactery as well. A phylactery is itself usually of magical nature, meaning its destruction is generally not an easy task."

After some waving of hands over the crown and the scepter, Flint announces "Well, they are both magical in nature....but it will take some time to determine anything more."  Turning to the group Flint adds "If we are going to rest, then we'd best do it somewhere safe...the process of identifying these two items will take time (more than 8 hours each)...which is ruined if interrupted."

"The scepter is not an artifact. We've already found the artifact which is a scepter, and I feel stupid for not remembering such." he replies, shaking his head wearily. "I think this place is doing things to me. Too much stress and death." the priest mutters.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

OOC:  For the sake of moving this along, the spellcasters will know that a dispel magic spell, followed by Chianta's blow (as an artifact) will probably destroy the phylactery.

Then if you want to rest, we can move to that next.

"Well, let's be done with it then"  Flint casts a (OOC: dispel magic) spell over the scepter and steps back out of the way for Borimer to do his 'thing'.

"We may want to keep the crown though...we do not know what properties that has...other than it contains some magic."

"It was the King's crown, so it probably has some sort of defensive properties about it. I would like if you would identify it, along with this brooch if you can." Kahan responds, pulling out the Berillian Brooch so that they may finally figure out what it does.

While Borimer is happily smashing the scepter, Flint comments to Kahan "Yes, OK.  I can only do one at a time though, and the process is lengthy and taxing.  How long do we plan on staying here?"

Malissin waves his hand.

"I too am not in need of healing. I will leave you to rest and recover while I secure these rooms."

OOC:

09:43, Today: Malissin rolled 88 using 1d100. check for traps room 7.

I've got a 65% on checking traps so that should be a failure in 7 but a success in 8

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

Borimer destroys the phylactery and it explodes in a brilliant flash of light as its pieces crumble, fade to a bluish glowing dust and then whirl away as if a tiny dust devil.  The king is dead, long live the king, is all that comes to mind.

Malissin begins prepping to search the rooms while the others sleep.

Kahan begins healing.  (Please state who and what results.)

Flint begins preparations for an identify spell.

OOC: Funny thing is that it's only been a couple hours game time since you rested last (except Malissin).  I guess your exertions have made you extra tired.  ;)

Borimer nods in satisfaction at the destruction of the scepter and then prepares for some much-needed rest.  Bravely he sleeps only after the priest is done tending to the other pary member's wounds, finally snoring in a gentle rhythm until Kahan kicks him to be quiet.

Flint says to no one in particular "I guess Naj and Edmure will go unmourned..." before starting the purification process in preparation for the ID spell. (Assuming option 2 for the unreserved/open slot house rule of 4hrs)

OOC: Yeah, LOL...waking up and getting hit by a truck (in the form of a Lich) can do that to you ;-)

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

Malissin begins searching room 8 for traps (unsuccessfully) before proceeding to room 7.

OOC: Classic D&D: Enter a dungeon, hit a monster. Magic users burn up their spells forcing the group to rest. Resting group wakes up, encounters a random monster, burns up their spells and then rests again. Rinse and repeat until the dungeon is empty of wandering monsters of the DM says "screw it" and throws the encounter sheet out the window.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

The only trap Malissin finds is the one in room 7 that Chrisman had warned you about.  It is a magical trap, so Malissin is not familiar with what it is or how to disarm it.

Of course, a dispel magic spell might be the first thing to try...

You encounter nothing during your rest, though at one point you hear again the screaming of a man as if being tortured from somewhere up the stairs and in a distant room.

OOC: If traveling, again please state the route you take by rooms, as I am tracking movements of Esylia as well as you, and things might not be the same after another 8 hours of rest.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

Before going to bed, Kahan will cast a Dispel Magic on the trap after Mallisin says he can't disarm it himself. He will then cast two CLW's on Flint and a CMW on Harak, as well as a Fire Trap and Glyph of Warding on the door into room 7. He'll make sure everyone knows the password to get past them both without setting them off.

Kahan casts the spells before he rests, and Malissin then begins searching for traps.  He finds no other traps in the room, and it appears the palm trap has been disarmed, so the scrap of folded cloth can be removed without concern.

Flint will finish his purification preparations and cast the ID spell prior to resting and trying to regain some more HP.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 7 - The King

Unfolding the cloth reveals the following message:

King Krusark,

243-579-144

-Ashe

Allevia:

623-789-990
Both Gems Required

7923

After the "7923," the note stops suddenly, as if the rest of the message were erased.  The part between "Ashe" and "Allevia," and down to the "7923" (the green text) all appears to be some sort of water stain area, as if water were spilled there in a wave across the cloth.

Malissin shows the scrap of cloth around to the rest of the party.

"Is this the code we're looking for?"

Malissin taps the "Allevia" part of the cloth and the 9 digit number underneath it.

"What do you think 'both gems needed' means? Besides the obvious..."
