OOC: He can target them like that, but he also knows that these are seasoned warriors, not grunts.  (They are each level 3 or 4, depending on the individual.)

So currently there are 6 orcs left, plus Grung.  Some of the orcs are wounded from Kahan's chain lightning spell earlier.

is borimer able to attack this round, or does he have to forgoe all three attacks to pick up the artifact? (he does have the quickdraw thing from his grandmastery with the longsword, in case that matters)

In reply to Borimer (msg # 76):

What artifact are you referring to?

Right now, Borimer moves at 2/3 regular speed.  Quickdraw would count for 1 out of 3 attacks (but 1 out of 2 right now).  So he could draw another weapon or pick something up and attack once, given the arrow in his torso that slows him down.  This slowdown also affects his ability to be the first to attack every round until it wears off.

Borimer grabs Chianta while biting back on the pain coursing through his body from the multiple wounds. He stumbles forward and takes a hard swing at the half-orc.

Oh, the sword. :)  You're right, it is an artifact.  I just don't usually think of it as that.  I have to admit, my first impression with the critical miss was to have Chianta fall over the balcony to the floor below...

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 12 - The Orcs

ROUND 5
Borimer grabs Chianta off the ground.

Grung seizes this opportunity to perform a charging move on Borimer, grappling him to go over the balcony.  (Critical hit.)  Grung slams into Borimer full force.  They are about equal strength, and Grung grapples him as they both fall over the side of the balcony, landing roughly on the stone floor below (next to the Time Ark).  (Borimer suffers 8 damage from the fall; Grung suffers 3 damage.)  Borimer lands on his left leg wrong, and it crumples in pain beneath him.  (Critical hit effects on Borimer:  left knee disabled, knockdown, 1/2 move, lose rest of turn.)

Knockdown Effects: (saving throw missed) Borimer falls prone to the ground after the knockdown, the fall from the balcony, and landing wrong on his left leg.  (See rules clarifications thread "knockdown effects" to see what must be done to get up again, but the 1/2 move for the busted knee will still remain.)

Meanwhile, Flint sends down a mass of magic missiles down upon Grung, but they don't do as much damage as hoped.  (9 total damage.)  Grung is gravely wounded but still alive.  (7/70 hp.)  He rolls away from Borimer to take something from the sack at his side.

Harak misses the orc with his scimitar.  Arrows fly toward Harak and Flint.  Two arrows hit Harak (11 hp dmg), and one hits Flint (6 hp dmg).  OOC: The magic missile spell has a fast speed, which is why he was able to get the initiative and cast it before being hit by the arrow.  So his spell wasn't interrupted.

The other orc swings his axe at Harak, but misses.  (Critical miss.)  The blow in these close quarters instead accidentally hits the orc next to him on the balcony.  (4 dmg.)

Meanwhile, Malissin and Kahan are approaching.

As they pass the neverending pit room, the dragon-like demon lands on the second floor, which just happens to be the floor they are on.  It is across the pit from them.  As they speed through, Kahan uses the staff and calls forth a fire elemental.

They continue on and reach the balcony.  Kahan and Malissin can attack the orcs on the second floor next round.  Because Kahan stopped to use the staff, Malissin is slightly ahead of him, just north of the balcony room.

Borimer pulls himself up on one leg with the help of a nearby banister and then lunges forward hoping to stick Chianta straight through his former companion, fully intending to send this betrayer of oaths and would-be king back to his craven gods.

Flint is still worried by Grung, but doesn't wastes time on the traitor, the archers are his major concern. He decides not to risk it and prepares the wand of frost, calling forward for a magical hail inside the orcsĀ“ space.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 12 - The Orcs

To Borimer:  Given that Borimer is badly hurt and slowed, and that Grung is actively moving north away from him out of reach of the sword, I don't think Borimer will be able to actually reach him next round.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 12 - The Orcs

Kahan instructs his elemental to fight the demon while he looks around the battlefield. Borimer looked badly wounded from his fight with Grung, and was probably in need of healing. Of course, he was currently on the wrong level, and the priest knew healing spells couldn't travel, unfortunately. So, deciding to throw caution to the wind, the young holy man decides that jumping from the balcony is the best decision. Mal, Harak and Flint could handle the orcs... probably. As he wonders about this, he begins running and jumps down, hoping he learned a thing or two about tumbling from his former rogue companion.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 12 - The Orcs

OOC: Let me clarify in case the last round moves weren't clear enough.

All players and enemies are on level 2 except Grung and Borimer.  Grung and Borimer went over the side of the railing and received falling damage as they slammed into the floor of level 1.

Grung is backing north into the worship area with the broken pews, so he is directly under Kahan and Malissin, who are now on level 2 (the floor above him).  So Malissin can't backstab Grung, but he could backstab one of the other orcs who are on level 2 with the bows.

Since Malissin was out of the action and going up a level, I will translate his misunderstanding of where they are at into a mistaken identity, having him attack the orc next to the northern entrance thinking it is Grung (and being mistaken since he is sneaking up from behind).

Because Grung is directly under Malissin and Kahan, he is out of their reach unless they maneuver into a position where they can see him and reach him with a ranged weapon/spell.  Frankly, Malissin and Kahan probably don't know where Grung is (or Borimer) since this all happened out of their view.  Flint and Harak, however, have line of sight to Grung (and Borimer) from the second floor balcony (south side), and have height advantage.

Borimer suffered a knockdown and slowed movement due to injuring his torso (arrow critical hit) and knee (falling damage crit), so he is about 10 feet south of Grung, who is moving north away from Borimer and pulling something out of the sack at his side.  Due to his injuries, Borimer's normally very fast speed has been reduced to 1/3 of normal.

Re: Harkahnon Ruins 12 - The Orcs

ROUND 6
Malissin attempts to backstab the nearest archer...and fails miserably.

Kahan instructs the elemental to fight the demon as he then looks south to observe the battle, and then he runs to the balcony and jumps over the edge to the floor 15 feet below...  (roll failed)

Kahan isn't the best at tumbling, especially with his armor on, and he lands heavy on the floor, hurting himself in the process.  (5 hp dmg.)  But he is next to Borimer now.

Flint, meanwhile, has been pulling out the wand of frost and waving it around the area where the other orcs are at.  An ice storm appears over their heads.  Unfortunately, you are in a small enclosed area, with Kahan and Borimer directly below, and the ice storm has a minimal 20 foot radius.

Harak hacks at the next orc in line.  Already wounded, the orc goes down after two powerful slashes of the scimitar.

Borimer makes a quick shot at Grung but misses.

Grung pulls out a vial of blue liquid that he drinks down while moving north toward the neverending pit drop.

Archers fire...

Two arrows hit.  One hits Harak in the shoulder (3 hp dmg) and one hits Kahan on the ground below (2 hp dmg).

The ice storm fully forms...

The powerful hail rains down on the orcs.  They are still heavily wounded from the previous attacks and chain lightning, and the ice storm is too much for them.  Only one still stands after the powerful hail rains down on their heads.

Harak manages to dodge the worst of the storm but is still pelted with painful hail.  (Saving throw made; half damage; 13 hp dmg.)

Borimer and Kahan are mostly shielded by the ceiling/floor above, and the hail does not hit them.

Flint is not so lucky.  He is within the radius of his own ice storm but jumps out of the way in time to only take half damage.  (7 dmg.)  But Malissin ducks back in time to avoid all damage, his rogue skills coming in very handy.

The demon, meanwhile, is screeching and attacking the fire elemental.  The two are a strange match since they both use fire based attacks and both are immune to fire.

But you hear something from the northwest area.  It is a heavy stomping of something very large, so heavy its footsteps make the floor of the temple tremble beneath you, and you realize you have not yet met every demon released by the Venue Ark's power.

"Nice jump my friend, very heroic..."
