Re: Here There Be Giants 5

Borimer stifles a groan until hearing word of a new limb, "Does this Xren Codex speak of how to free prisoners in the dark, too?" He murmurs, preparing for the upcoming inevitability as he knows the paladin hears the words of the gnome as well.

Junar stares blankly at Borimer, confused.  "The Xren Codex exist since ancient time.  It contain prophecy, not instructions."

Hatchman says, "I do not sneak up on opponents, but I am not opposed to sneaking by them to save more lives.  If we can distract them to go to the south, maybe we can swim across to the island."

Is there a current, or could we swim across?

"So we must get to that island to leave.  If we have to we might as well try to save the prisoners since we'll have to fight the Giants there anyway.  But to do this every spellcaster must be fully rested and ready to go.  I see no other way."

Speaking to Junar he says "Is there no where save from the Giants we could use to rest?"

Re: Here There Be Giants 5

Tahldar of Tyrannia:
We don't have time to wait and rest, so we need to attack now.  But how?  I figured I'd write this out in OOC.  Heath, let me know and I'll move it to IC if you wish.

By my count we have 8 in our party.  Borimer, Donovan Redmond, Hatchman, Kahan Singh, Lukas Rimshank, Shae Shadowglen, Shapfren Diditlew, and Tahldar.

I can cast invisibility on three and cast dimension door on myself to get over to the island.  Dimension door only works on myself.  Shapfren can cast two more invisibility spells.  This is a total of 6 to attack the island.  Leaving two to create a diversion to the south, though these two would have to be fairly strong since they will have to navigate a boat by themselves to the island once they have triggered their diversion.

Too, there is the issue of a boat being navigated by no one (but really the 5 invisible party members) which would draw the Giants on the islands attention.  For this I'm thinking Shapfren would somehow use her illusion spells to create fake Giants to make it appear they are in the boat and doing the rowing.

Thoughts?

borimer can't row a boat, but can otherwise be wherever needed. the plan sounds good to me.

Shae says, "I am a strong swimmer and can change shapes.  I can go out first and cause a distraction, and then transform and fly away before being caught.  In the meantime, you can make your way to the island like Tahldar suggested.  I will try to give you enough time to make it there unseen."

"That sounds good Shae, just be careful to not get too close to any Ginat." Tahldar says in reply to her suggestion to be the source of their need distraction.

"Shapfren, could you use your illusions to disguise some of us as Giants?  If you can then everyone besides Shae could advance on the island while she distracts them."

"I can only project the illussion of a Giant, disguising someone is beyond me, but invisibility is a possibility, my only worry is that I won't have much energy left if we get into a fight"

Re: Here There Be Giants 5

As you discuss your plans, the giants by the canoes walk over in your direction.  You are hiding on the ledge above, and you still your voices.  They talk while they work, gathering some stones and hauling twine around.

Two of them begin to talk in their Giantish tongue.  [Language unknown: "Taus are k ut howe ivill stilatshe?" "Un, P ine witvirast illce cawa'trckna."  "Ilma weou eraha accom."  "Nde ortvorithvor."  "Ain tandai k u ishi pl nte rounnd?"  "Is nc lontad hatichect, fineen."]

They laugh and then haul the twine back out to the canoes.  Their stench doesn't follow them away quickly enough.

They pile the long twine and an armful of stones into one of the canoes and then all three of them begin walking south on the shoreline around the side of the cave wall and out of sight.

Re: Here There Be Giants 5

As you wait, the remaining two giants get on an empty canoe and begin paddling across to the island.

The area below you is now clear, and two canoes remain, one with the stones and twine.

OOC: To clarify, the building in the island across the way does not have all its walls knocked down.  What Junar was telling you was that the giants knocked down interior walls of the building to make it large enough for them to move around.

Re: Here There Be Giants 5

Since Tahldar is the most literate, he tells you what they said:

Giant 1: "Will you be at the game tonight?"
Giant 2: "No, I must guard the younglings."
Giant 1: "The drow will die."
Giant 2: "Most certainly."
Giant 1: "Any others to be put in the arena?"
Giant 2: "Only as treppan fodder, surely."

"We need to attack now.  I can cast one fly, which I will on Borimer.  Shae can use her shapeshift to fly to the island.  I will use my dimension door to get there.  The rest can use a boat.  And then finally we do our best to time our attack at the same time.  Me, Shae and Borimer on any that are atop the walls, while the rest deal with the two defending the drow." Tahldar says to the group.

"And I will cast an invisibility on Borimer so he can at least surprise them for his initial attack.  Once I make it over to the wall I will use approximately four magic missiles, and once this is exhausted I will resort to my dagger.  I wish I could do more but this is all I have at my disposal."

Thinking a bit more he adds "Shapfren, might you cast an invisibiliy on Shae?  This way our attack atop the walls will be completely by surprise."
