Summary: Regardless of if the lion's AC remains the same while grappled or not, Opal's sandman deals 6 damage and the Lion must make a DC14 will save or immediately fall to sleep.

That is correct as helpless creatures drop anything they are holding. Including amorpush sandmen. ;)
