OOC:

1. No, you add 3d6 to whatever you already got.
2. Which you wouldn't even have if you'd read it because that's a false suspicion.
3. No, you cannot move through walls... >_<
4. Go ahead. Might as well fix it now. We're already in it this deep. LOL.

Bruhli, you're up.

From somewhere an arrow flew through the sky and hit flying prey. “TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH!” Bruhli picked up his sword and moved out of the smoke. He could feel the effects of the potion. Gripping his greatsword, Bruhli flew at the creature, roaring as he went, unleashing a massive attack. Unbelievably, Bruhli missed. But he raged on! “I WILL BRING YOUR WORLD DOWN AND CRUSH YOU LIKE THE ANT YOU ARE!!! TALES OF YOUR DEFEAT WILL BE KNOWN TO MANY!!!! YOU WILL FALL AT THE HANDS OF BRUHLI!!!!..and Xin.”

Re: Monster Hunt #14: Training Day

OOC: Just a few FYI tips...

1) When you charge, it must be in a straight line towards your target, not PAST your target. You have to end your movement in the nearest possible location for it to be a straight line. Moving around them to the side would just be a move + standard attack (not that it matters as it was a miss anyway but just so you know). J10 or K10 would be the only possible ways to charge it from where you were standing (unless you used the shirt to first move to a different location before charging, which would be a great loophole around that rule in future battles).

2) You also cannot charge if there is anything slowing your movement such as difficult terrain or obstacles like obstructed vision. The smoke creates total concealment, meaning that if you move through it you move at 1/2 speed for each space you do so.

3) The movement you chose would provoke an AOO since the space before your current space was a threatened one outside the smoke. Keep in mind monster can take AOOs too.

Re: Monster Hunt #14: Training Day

OOC: Lol, I should never combine the two things I know least about this game flying + charging. JK

One quick question about the damage. I believe my DR/4 would apply versus each attack? Also, I have resist fire 5. I believe that would reduce the fire damage as well. If I reduce the damage from each attack by 4 and ignore the fire because its lower than my resistance, then I think I take 16 damage? My math could be wrong, it's been a long week.

I just want to make sure I get my hp right before my turn. Also, I will throw out a guess next round.

Re: Monster Hunt #14: Training Day

OOC: I applied the DR but I forgot about the Fire Resist. Yes, just knock off the excess damage.

But yeah, I admit charging and flying in 3.5 and Pathfinder are complex and a pain to deal with. But, this monster will not go down without a fight so it has to play "keep away" with Bruhli. Even at it's painfully low CR compared to a 9th level character, it will give you at least some trouble. If only it weren't for that sneak attack... :P

Oh and BTW, you also can't put ranks in the Fly skill unless you have an innate way to create your own flight. (wings, supernatural racial ability, spells or spell-like abilities, etc.)

Potions don't count...unless you craft your own potions with Brew Potion...I guess that might qualify as "innate" too...hmmmm. Interesting. I guess that'd be a good loophole.

Bruhli falls out of the sky because of the creatures attack, but despite his bulk, the super barbarian managed to land on his feet with surprising agility. He looked back up at the creature, hate in his eyes. Xin was a more efficient attacker than that flying creature. Bruhli was let down by the creature and its wimpy flurry of hits. Bruhli gripped his sword and flew out of the smoke and around a bit to get his bearing with flight. He was still new at this. He then flew into the smoke hoping to use the smoke as a screen so the creature didn’t realize Bruhli left a threatened square. Bruhli then burst out of the smoke and yelled “ROUND TWO!!!” and swung hard at the creature and somehow managed to hit it. “HEHEHE!!!!”

   ROUND: Round 6 (17)

Re: Monster Hunt #14: Training Day

OOC: Wait, by "fly around it", did you mean in a semicircle to avoid provoking an AoO/moving through smoke? In greater than 45 degree angle...at a DC15 fly check or plummet back to the ground again before even making that swing?

Did you want to roll that other fly check or would you prefer the 50% concealment miss chance?

This was my path: I fell to L9+0 to L9+1 to L9+2 to L10+2 to K10+2 to J10+2. It was really just vertical and horizontal movement. I didn't do any 45 degree angles.

I didn't think I had to make a miss chance because I was out of the smoke, but here it is:

21:22, Today: Bruhli rolled 29 using 1d100 with rolls of 29.  50> is a success,.

Re: Monster Hunt #14: Training Day

OOC: You were in L9. The only possible routes you could take were 45 degree turns to go around the smoke (fly check), flying straight up through the smoke (AoO) or stopping in the smoke (miss chance).

You put him at J10+2 from K10+2 which was in its reach and only 20% miss chance, which would be an AOO.

Your original description was unclear which I asked, but as you're not stopping in the smoke and you DIDN'T move around, you moved in a straight line, that would just be an AoO that the monster makes with a 20% miss chance.

I'll post the monster soon. 3D movement is such a pain. Why did it have to be a flying monster. *grumble grumble*

It might've even made round 10 if it hadn't been for that meddling rogue and his sneak attack. :P

Bruhli wheels around “YOU CALL THIS A STRAIGHT UP FIGHT!!!?” Once again, the barbarian takes flight. He longed for an opponent that would actually stand its ground. He wouldn't be made a laughingstock. He would destroy this creature, if it is the last thing he does.

Re: Monster Hunt #14: Training Day

OOC: Before we continue, I want to address something about flying. You keep saying MORE than half, but you only moved 5 spaces (25 ft.). A fly spell/potion gives you a 60ft. fly speed. That means you have to move through 6 spaces to constitute that. Moving upwards COST double movement but it doesn't GRANT movement on the field. There's a difference here. To fly half your base speed you actually need to move 6 spaces with your flying movement.

Now, the flying rules ARE vague as to whether a flying check means you fall at the BEGINNING of your movement or the END or middle. I'd assume end, otherwise it would come with little to no risk in most circumstances. But that's never specified. I'd be curious myself if the Paizo Errata ever made a determination there.

In either case, because this IS a training match you can just asked to be excused from that rule. I feel like I'm rulelawyering here more than teaching so just let me know if you want to skip this bit before continuing.

You can sunder your OWN patience, I'm sure. :P

I always thought it was at the beginning. I'd like to be excused from the rule for now.

Eureka! This is what I was confused about. I thought because it cost doubled, it would grant double. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess this is training for me too. So in some situations, it could be impossible to fly greater than half your speed.

OOC: Well, I don't want you guys to think I'm ruleslawyering to win...it IS just a monster. I'm only trying to use it to it's full capacity in hopes that you come up with your own unique and intriguing strategies to use against flying creatures in the future.

The creature, desperate, fills the air around Bruhli with smoke once again, then takes off higher into the air at incredible speed and agility.

OOC: BTW, sorry that this is a tedious fight. I'm going "all out" to make it challenging tactically, but if you feel like you already "get it" you can bail on this fight at any time for 1/3 rewards. No penalty to your leaderboard score. It's not PVP.

OOC: LOL! I can't believe you did that. You actually spent a hero point on a training match. That's dedication sir. Dedication to the character's authenticity. I applaud you and shall trade out your hero point for the paltry BP value of this CR 6 creature...

And by the way it was a: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestia...e/nightmare-advanced

Geez, you crit on the last hit sending it to -30! Bruhli, way to beat that dead horse! :P
