Monster Hunt #16: Hiro & Josep vs. ???

Well Josep is dead so the point is moot for him.

If Hiro makes the first save, he becomes henceforth immune.
If he fails it, I agree that he needs to save again every turn, and with every fail the fear effect gets worse.
If he succeeds on one of these saves, he keeps the last active fear condition and is immune to further feat effects.

  That's what you mean, right?

Also, I would have been out of range of the first one... so I should only need one save right now.

In reply to Hiro (msg # 38):

Correct, the range is 210 ft. I linked the frightful presence ability just to explain it. For True Dragons, it is 30 ft per age category.

Correct in the order of operations.
I did state, " all players," both times.
Good luck!

I realise I've been a bit careless in talking my turn... I certainly had other options available.
Good luck Hiro, I did my half of the job (almost) I'm relying on you now !!
Also, Josep put together that it was a bronze mature adult dragon, so plan accordingly ;)

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/...lls/d/dimension-door

Dimension Door:
You instantly transfer yourself from your current location to any other spot within range. You always arrive at exactly the spot desired - whether by simply visualizing the area or by stating direction. After using this spell, you can't take any other actions until your next turn.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classe...TOC-Abundant-Step-Su-
Abundant Step (Su):
At 12th level or higher, a monk can slip magically between spaces, as if using the spell dimension door. Using this ability is a move action that consumes 2 points from his ki pool. His caster level for this effect is equal to his monk level. He cannot take other creatures with him when he uses this ability.

As of now, you used  hero point and lost your turn. There is a feat chain to do that very thing though. As much as it may not seem like it, I do want you two to win. :) I am pretty sure I get the same xp no matter the outcome.

If there are no disputes, I will allow you to save your hero point and use your move action. I will not allow a change to your action line in type of action or order. As I denied Josep to do so. And it would not be fair to allow you a change and not him.

I feel saving the hero point is fair because all actions stop after the abundant step anyway.

Re: Monster Hunt #16: Hiro & Josep vs. ???

Hmm. I assumed that since hero point actions fell outside of normal initiative it wouldn't be affected by that...

if that's NOT the case (and I'm willing to let Arkrim make a ruling) then I would just move to the same spot normally (I abundant stepped to avoid any AOO's).

Can we shift my movement type to a normal move and proceed as normal with AOO's added in?

Re: Monster Hunt #16: Hiro & Josep vs. ???

In reply to Hiro (msg # 44):

You did not label the action to verify act out of turn or add extra action.
Since it was in your turn, I viewed it as extra action.

If you used it to act out of turn, it would be a readied action and change initiative, as such you would not use the rest of your turn.

But a move action abundant step turn end, hero point readied action attack(standard) would net you one attack. Which, you rolled 26 and that missed.

OK. We will let Arkrim make the call.

I would not allow you to change your action as I did not allow Josep to change his action. GM Arkrim can let you do anything as his word supercedes mine.

You may follow normal protocol for summoning GM Arkrim to intervene.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamema...er-rules/hero-points
Act Out of Turn: You can spend a hero point to take your turn immediately. Treat this as a readied action, moving your initiative to just before the currently acting creature. You may only take a move or a standard action on this turn

Extra Action: You can spend a hero point on your turn to gain an additional standard or move action this turn.

The abundant step is labelled as a Hero point action... if it can't work like that I'd much rather take no action at all and forfeit my turn entirely, staying at M2.

Play by play of turns:

Mage armor
Heroism
Dispel magic(don't actually care if it works)
Shield
Mirror image
Dispel magic(don't actually Carr if it works)
Blur
Engage Hiro.

Do you have anything you can do to prevent these actions? If not, I will fast forward to this point. Instead of wasting time with all those posts.

I know when GM Arkrim plays stalling does not apply. But I am not him so thus the dispels. Let me know.

Re: Monster Hunt #16: Hiro & Josep vs. ???

After the first Heroism the dragon is officially guilty of stalling :)

STALLING
During a match, players must attempt to attack an enemy or buff/summon an ally that is attacking by using an effect that has limited uses per day every 3 rounds (see the Invisibility spell for what constitutes an attack).
If you are incapable of doing either of these things, attempting to do so with at least a move action counts (such as a Perception check made as a move action to find a hidden opponent). Stalling counts as a foul.
Match special terms can alter the time frames for posting and stalling if desired.

It has to attack at least every third turn.

Dispel magic is an attack as per:

For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. Exactly who is a foe depends on the invisible character's perceptions.

Prep Round (optional):
As an optional extra, you can add prep rounds before combat begins. You cannot attack, charge, run, teleport or ready an action during a prep round. See the Invisibility spell description for what constitutes an "attack."

And the rule you quoted.

And remember my previous round was a dispel magic. So I am starting fresh. All actions are in accordance with rules.

Yes, you're right, it certainly looks like it's technically legal.

Does it make sense that a dragon is behaving this way? Not in the slightest. I think you're thinking like a PC and not like a monster... but:

Re: Monster Hunt #16: Hiro & Josep vs. ???

That is why I originally wanted a ref and a player for the dragon.
No problem though, let's keep things moving.

I think we expected more of a show... You are, as Hiro pointed out, technically right.
This being said, the monster hunts used to have different rules for stalling, whereby simply remaining out of reach for more than a round constituted stalling, I can't find the reference right now.

I also remember a fight where Hiro, having won on a technicality against a vicious dinosaur, conceded because that is how he rules.

Casting innocuous spells to work around the stalling rules seems like a cheap trick, one a legendary challenge monster should not have to resort to.
The dragon will probably shred Hiro to pieces anyway, even without seven buff spells...
Feel free to rule however you see fit, you're still the ref, but I think there's a higher road somewhere out there.

Also, our own fault for being too cocky, Hiro! Next time I won't skip buffing...

This is not a debate about the why a dragon, not just any monster, should act. I can already tell we three disagree about how a dragon, a creature of intelligence and legendary renown throughout the 7 inner seas, SHOULD or WOULD act. It isn't a brute. It is able to analyze it's situation and understand tactics. They make it to be 1,200 plus years old for a reason.
We can debate that topic in the OOC. I shall turn it down a notch and engage.
