Josep will start in J1 unless someone goes before him and picks the corner.

Erelace, when you PM'd me your sheet, I specifically asked you to send it in a new post rather than editing one already completed.  This is your warning about editing posts.  Do not edit posts unless you are specifically told to by your ref or the GM.  Further edits without being told to will result in a 1-3% bp penalty.

Kecil, we need your initiative post and character sheet.

For Kecil and Erelace: There were some irregularities in Josep's sheet: 2 items he couldn't afford and a feat he couldn't take.  He's offered to treat all three as blank, but will need to reduce his initiative modifier by two.  He will thus need you two to agree on whether he should reroll with the new modiifer or just reduce his initial roll by the difference.

Sorry, I was helping my brother move into a dorm, it's been a busy couple days.

I'm fine with either, leaning slightly towards reroll. To be honest, that's because it's strategically advantageous, but that feels a little wrong.

I've been assuming Eidolon acts with Summoner (as it is a summoned creature), and Familiar acts with Master (less basis, but that's how I've seen it played). With that in mind:

21:47, Today: Kecil rolled 2 using 1d20-1 with rolls of 3.  Initiative (Cohort).
21:46, Today: Kecil rolled 24 using 1d20+6 with rolls of 18.  Initiative (Kecil).

Items: Crossbow, Bolts, Weapon Blanch.

No shame in making a strategic choice guys!

10:01, Today: Josep Gavinho rolled 23 21 using 1d20+16 14 with rolls of 7.  Initiative

Also Ario, I realised as I was copying this that my actual modifier should be 4 lower, not 1 lower.
This making my initiative 21, not 23.
Or I can reroll again, sorry.

Words for Kecil before we really get started - this may take a bit as there appear to be about a dozen errors in the sheet (though some of them are not in his favor).

Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Okay, once you guys decide on Josep's initiative and Kecil's feat (see following), we are all set to go.

Kecil had several maths errors in his favor (corrected), an unapproved item (nixed), a couple errors not in his favor (kept as-is), and an illegal feat on a minion.  He would like to change the feat to one the minion actually qualifies for, but it is up to Josep whether he gets to do so (and Josep can request additional details on it if he desires).  Notably, as Josep volunteered to have all of his illegal choices just nixed, it should not be seen as petty if he asks for the same for Kecil's feat.

Well, I'm going to be very straightforward.
I'm ok with replacing the feat, if I'm allowed to replace the illegal feat I had on Josep as well.
I should also be earnest and point out, the trade off is most likely not going to work out in your favour, but I thought I would still offer.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

ooc: could you add a brief description of you and your minions, and your actions? thanks.

Josep finally walked into the arena. It had been a long awaited fight. And his first juggernaut --as juggernaut.

He quickly cast two spells, the first turning him into a stocky stony sturdy version of himself, the second making copies of him.

Suddenly Josep and his doubles disappeared into the ground, leaving nothing but a ripple of dirt where he stood just a few moments earlier!

His familiar --a plump bird ill-suited to battle-- just stayed behind and quacked...

Erelace enters the arena for her first match. She looks first to her partner
then to the mage they had challenged.

She watches as the mage disappears under the earth then sees his bird he left
behind. She quickly decides to attack the bird. She cast a spell to shield
herself. Then quickly moves to attack the bird growing in size as she does.
She lets out a battle cry as she looks down at the bird having doubled in size.

Josep's upper torso was out of the ground, while his lower body was still out of sight. His distorted stone-like features made it difficult to tell what he was doing.

He cast a first spell, invoking a ball of fire on the battlefield. The flames caught almost everyone but him and his bird. Including the invisible Eidolon, he hoped.
He then swiftly screamed his magic at the Drider, making her ears bleed a little.

His familiar stayed idly put.

The fireball failed to pierce Erelace's Spell Resistance.

You can't take aoo when flat-footed (which you are until you act in round 1).
Josep is half-sunken in the ground, so he has cover.
You need to roll a d7 to see whether you hit Josep or an illusion.

Uncanny Dodge and improved uncanny dodge. I am never Flat-footed.

quote:
Flat-Footed  At the start of a battle, before you have had a chance to act (specifically, before your first regular turn in the initiative order), you are flat-footed. You can't use your Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) while flat-footed. Barbarians and rogues of high enough level have the uncanny dodge extraordinary ability, which means that they cannot be caught flat-footed. Characters with uncanny dodge retain their Dexterity bonus to their AC and can make attacks of opportunity before they have acted in the first round of combat. A flat-footed character can't make attacks of opportunity, unless he has the Combat Reflexes feat.

Cover

To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target's square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC).

When making a melee attack against an adjacent target, your target has cover if any line from any corner of your square to the target's square goes through a wall (including a low wall). When making a melee attack against a target that isn't adjacent to you (such as with a reach weapon), use the rules for determining cover from ranged attacks.

Nothing blocks my line of sight. On either attack as long as I can see you head I can hit it. Sadly for you Bloodrager is the ultimate antimage Class. BTW when I get to your level I be taking that champions belt. :)

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Josep has cover relative to Erelace (or anyone really) because his lower half is below ground. That is, per the rules you quoted, no line from any square of yours can reach the lower square on which Josep stands without going though the ground (because you attack with reach).

Additionally to the bonus to AC,
:pfsrd:
You can't execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with cover relative to you.

No aoo thus.

Now for your normal attack. When rolling a d7 to determine whether you hit the actual Target, you should specify in the dice roller which result strikes true. Generally, a 1 strikes true.
In the case that you do hit, the next dice you roll will be a d6, etc.

You can reroll the d7 if you want (specify 1=josep, or some such, in the dice roller line)

(I'll take you up on that championship challenge, but it's unlikely I'll still have the belt then! Ario is rising, Hiro wants it back, Tina is

In reply to Josep Gavinho (msg # 63):

The Eidolon has Evasion, due to being an Eidolon of summoner level 2nd level or greater. (I think maybe the Minion statblocks need to be slightly more expansive to include resistances)

The Eidolon has Greater Invisibility, giving him +2 to hit and making you Flat-Footed, if I'm not mistaken.

The Eidolon closed its eyes and ignored the Images entirely on the first attack, making it a flat 50% miss chance (thus the d% miss chance on the first attack). Since that hit, it opened its eyes and just swiped at images the other attacks that hit. This is my bad, I think - I had the strategy planned a long time ago and I guess I stopped thinking about it actively.

Edit - Missed a question, and adding another couple notes, since I believe that is ok for noncombat posts:

The attack that initiated the grab was a Claw attack. I'm... not sure what the protocol is if you avoid that attack, as I've already rolled the Mirrors, but at the same time, the point of switching to open-eyed attacking was "I've already grabbed him", so the Eidolon would continue close-eyed if possible...

Also this assumed that blinking is a free action.

Lastly, I did look up the Charge rules, which state you must have line of sight of the target at the beginning of the turn to charge. However I learned from the whole illegal potion thing that one place not prohibiting something does not mean it is not prohibited by another section of the rules. I haven't found anything contradictory yet, though...

All right, I understand what you were doing now.
I suppose you had these actions listed in private to the ref, hence why I didn't see them.
You should still specify, for each minion, which type of action was taken.
Pathfinder doesn't specify what kind of action it is to close or open your eyes.
Last time I remember someone closing their eyes to avoid Mirror Image, it was ruled by the GM that I was a free action, but the creature remains blind until their next turn. Also, your take penalties on your attack roll and movement for being blind.

I'll wait for Ario to rule on what happens in that end of round 1 and beginning of round 2 before I post my actions.

I actually didn't specify in PM that the eidolon was doing that, only that it was attacking (and then I rolled following that strategy). Like I mentioned, I basically had it set in my head, so I stopped thinking of it actively as anything different than the "normal attack pattern", which is my bad. Edit: I guess I was kind of thinking that it was obvious from my rolls, but that clearly wasn't the case, so again, my fault. Apologies. I haven't had enough time to compensate for my bad proofreading and checking skills to really look before I leap.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Per a ruling by Sely, the eyes close at the beginning of the turn and are closed until the start of the next turn.

Nothing of what Kecil said was in private action lines other than "charge with pounce".  No justification was made for making a roll other than what was called for.  As Josep called out the failure to make a proper roll, and Kecil had no reason for not making it, Kecil's Eidolon's grabbing attack fails to hit Josep's actual self.  As the failure to roll for images does not mitigate having hit Josep's AC, and as the attacks were not labeled with any kind of order, all 3 hits will pop images.

The Brownie may re-roll its images are there is only 1 image remaining when it goes.

Kecil may then edit his turn 2 post to strike through it (just select all and click on the strike option and post the turn's actions as he sees fit, or he may post that he will be leaving it as it stands.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Can I ask to have the attacks be made as simply eyes-closed (50% miss chance on each)? I noted the lack of notation before anybody else pointed it out, saying it was my bad in the post before Josep mentioned he didn't see anything like that in public posts. I didn't think a free action like that needed to be mentioned beyond rolling appropriately for that action, as I believed it was obvious, which again is now clearly untrue.

If that is not acceptable, then I would like to request that I be dropped from the match and Erelace be allowed to take additional attacks as if she did not have to move out the way for me, as I believe she'd have a better chance with that. I would really rather not reduce my teammate's chances because I wasn't able to spend sufficient time proofreading, clarifying, or thinking through my actions sufficiently.

If this is not possible, I apologize and will continue the fight.

Under the assumption that the ruling is final and will not be altered, I will not take the implied optional reroll, because I must note that there would not be one, but two mirror images left, and thus my roll of 3 would simply hit an image.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

I don't see anything of you explaining why no mirror image roll made prior to Josep calling it on post 63.  If I'm missing something, let me know - all actions (free or not) that you intend to have  an in game effect need to be declared.

Per the previous ruling from Sely, if you wanted your eidolon to close his eyes, he closes his eyes at the start of turn, can't charge and passes turn as you gave him no legal actions with his eyes closed.  The ruling I gave was the most fair I could work out as your only problem with the post as written was not rolling the mirror image and not labeling your attacks.

You cannot walk away from a match once it is started, and you have not yet reached the conditions for concession.  (Check defeat and victory section of the arena rules - you'd lose 5% of your total BP. Leaving a game early is pure bad for you, and does not in any way buff your ally.)

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

I think this chain of quotes make my mistake most clear:

Josep Gavinho:
I can only see one claw attack which hits my AC (including cover), and no mirror image roll which resulted in a 1.

Kecil:
The Eidolon closed its eyes and ignored the Images entirely on the first attack, making it a flat 50% miss chance (thus the d% miss chance on the first attack). Since that hit, it opened its eyes and just swiped at images the other attacks that hit. This is my bad, I think - I had the strategy planned a long time ago and I guess I stopped thinking about it actively.

Josep Gavinho:
All right, I understand what you were doing now.
I suppose you had these actions listed in private to the ref, hence why I didn't see them.
You should still specify, for each minion, which type of action was taken.

I did not mention it before post 63, but I did note that I didn't write out what I considered trivial, before Josep said he saw no such action.

I see now your complete ruling includes closing eyes at the beginning of the turn resulting in not ever having sight at the start of the turn. Therefore my proposed action is illegal, which was not clear to me until just now.

My proposed action was a retcon to simply erase my actions, and as a courtesy allow the most recent actions to be changes as if they were mistakes from a misunderstanding. I do not mind the BP loss as I then intended on quitting the Arena entirely, as it has become clear I do not have time to properly abide by its rules.

However, since it is clear you would not allow that, I will take the actions noted:

Kecil:
Under the assumption that the ruling is final and will not be altered, I will not take the implied optional reroll, because I must note that there would not be one, but two mirror images left, and thus my roll of 3 would simply hit an image.

One final confirmation: This is valid, correct? Because I believe Josep has lost one entity from Erelace, and three from my Eidolon, out of six to begin with.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

I won't comment on the rulings and options, as it would only add a layer of complexity to an already tangled situation.

I just want to say, bear with us.
The rules of the arena can be overwhelming at first (and you wouldn't be the first one to drop after their first couple of fights because of how tedious it is), but it's also great fun once you master the format (and it gets easier to know what you can and can't do).

Your build is solid and it doesn't take much to bring your formatting in line with the arena standard.
(Sorry if this sound patronising, it is not my intent.)

We should probably have played with the "hidden on the map" optional rule, it makes things easier to manage.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Yeah, I still have things that come up in matches that I didn't know were rulings.  And to be clear about the ruling, if (as josep was willing to assume) you had clearly declared the eyes open/eyes closed/eyes open thing I would have encouraged josep to let you roll the 1d4 miss chance for the claw to resolve the illegal action legally.  Every action (free or not) needs to be visible to the ref.

Thanks for the integrity with the brownie - I had miss-counted.  Also, you're playing up 1200 bp and aren't dead round one... in fact 2/3 of your minions aren't dead in round one also, so congrats on that.

Lastly, agreement between the players trumps ruling by ref in an individual match, so if Josep wants to offer you something else as an alternative, he's welcome to.  Otherwise, on with round 2.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Thank you for your kind words, but I think I will have to at the very least stop playing for some time. The realization came in two parts, both that this is a lot more bookwork than I anticipated, and also that classes are starting and I just got assigned 150 pages of reading in 2 days before the class even started o.O

I'll be giving it at least a week before I settle into a schedule and can (hopefully) give this the attention it deserves.

In reply to Erelace Barrityl (msg # 74):

I'll do my best...

Essentially, my Eidolon cannot open/close it's eyes at will as a free action - It can intentionally blind itself as a free action, but then its eyes are closed the whole turn. Thus, i can't bypass the normal Mirror miss chance in favor of blindness miss chance. So, my actions had to be edited somewhat.

Now it is Josep's turn, and he has one Mirror Image left.

Josep's upper torso was still the only visible part of him.

He started shooting rays of fire, aiming at an invisible opponent.

Finally he ducked out of sight.

Based on your post, Josep can choose to waive the second 48 hour call or not.  Once he answers, it is either your turn or Kecil's.

EDIT:  Josep stayed underground and did some invisible things, Kecil stayed invisible and did some invisible things.  That's it so far - you just missed 1 turn of each player's, except possibly 2 of yours.

Josep doesn't immediately appear. Rather, a Scorching array announces him.

From nowhere it seems, or perhaps from a small ripple in the dirt, three rays of pure fire hit the tauric creature, burning it to a four-legged piece of charcoal.

The earth-like Josep has appeared only for a few seconds, and disappeared again.

ROUND: 4
POSITION: J5(-3) to J7(-1) (half sunken in the ground)

SUMMARY: Josep pops out of the ground, casts fire rays, disappears. Centaur takes 47 fire damage.

Taking the opportunity to coordinate a counter-attack, Kecil yells "He's south of your center, Pupper!" His cohort's familiar fires a pellet of smoke at that direction before the Eidolon, seemingly unscathed by the fire, slashes with a claw. The bullet seems to hit something, but the massive quadruped is unable to strike his target, initially.

Results: Josep must make a DC 13 fort save or be Nauseated. If he does, he cannot cast a spell to turn invisible again. Regardless, team not-Josep is to follow.

21:35, Today: Kecil rolled 19 using 1d20+16 with rolls of 3.  Eidolon Claw.
21:34, Today: Kecil rolled 85 using 1d100 with rolls of 85.  Miss Chance (Bullet, >50 hits).
21:33, Today: Kecil rolled 16 using 1d20+6 with rolls of 10.  Touch Attack (Brownie Smoke Bullet).

I forgot to factor in cover, you're right, no hit with the pellet. I'll proceed.

The rays hit, but seem to do no damage. I'll leave it to Ario to say how much more info you get.

Kecil flings glittering powder into the air, swarming around Josep and highlighting his form, allowing his allies to swarm and attack the highlighted form.

Results: If Josep is armed, he gets an AoO as Kecil leaves his threatened area. Unless he's got something that will stop him from casting, from moving, or dealing more than 47 damage, the rest proceeds:

Glitterdust hits, make a Reflex save and a Will save - Reflex halves the -40 stealth penalty as well as the duration from 8 rounds to 4, and Will negates the blindness. Regardless, you are considered to have 20% Concealment.

Elemental misses by less than 5, maybe pops an image? (see below)

Brownie hits regardless, fort save DC 13 or Nauseated for 2 rounds.

Eidolon hits three times regardless, 39 damage and you are Grappled.

Question for ref: If Elemental Slam misses by less than 5, but fails miss chance, does it still pop an image? The rolls work out so it doesn't change anything but the image's presence, but I figured I should clarify.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

My understanding is that if you fail due to miss chance, you don't hit the image. Might be wrong on that though.
I think Miss Chance applies before Mirror Image is factored in, but again to be confirmed.

Josep Gavinho rolled 29,22,13 using d20+11,d20+6,d20+6 with rolls of 18,16.  reflex, will, fortitude

...Wait, I messed up. Kecil's in E10, elemental's in I7 so it doesn't flank. Didn't type in the 5 foot step to move the Elemental to flanking position, I don't get those bonuses. I think that means the crit threat is not confirmed. Not sure the procedure in this case. Should I just not deal damage? Roll normal damage? Something else?

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

You are free to take Erelace's  turn now unless she says something before you do.  As she's spoken up to let us know what was going on and gave control to Kecil, and as it was due to the decease of a family member, I'm all for just letting Kecil control her character and letting you guys (or Arkrim if you would rather not) rule on what happens with her for delay/bp, rather than just dq'ing her.

Also, Kecil, you at least partially flubbed your eidolon's turn.  As the initiator it was required to take one of the following actions: 1) as a free action release the grapple at the very beginning of his turn (which he didn't) or 2) maintain it as a standard action.  Instead you rolled 4 claw attacks as a full round action.  Also, with only enlarge person on your eidolon, it doesn't look like he should have a +26 to grapple. (6 bab, 2 size, 9 str, 2 improved grapple, 4 grab = 23)

Also, your brownie appears to not have precise shot, so Josep's cover + being engaged in melee means that your roll does not look high enough to hit him.

...Oh. Hm.

Definitely looks like I miscalculated Eidolon grapple bonuses. I guess I was thinking in 3.5, where Enlarge Person ended up at +5 total? No idea, but eh, ok.

Not sure where to go from here - I can say the Eidolon released as a free action and then full attacked (re-grabbing), as that's the closest to the current actions, or whatever elses is appropriate.

Once that's been ruled, and I do whatever's necessary to carry out anything I have to do as result of the rulings, I'll move to Erelace's turn.

Anything you see fit.

I can see how the line of action implies a drop of the grapple in the first place. Let's assume that there was a free action to that end.
I didn't check the maths, but I assume this doesn't change a thing to the end result, right?

Good game; I painfully realized how poorly prepared I am against grappling foes, and it does teach me to never underestimate my opponent, even when they have a quarter of my BP!

Good game indeed! Dodo will surrender without making trouble.

1494 (loser BP total) * 90 = 134460 / 1 (# of losers) = 134460
1) Kecil's reward: 134460 / 389 = 345 (1/2 this is max reward for referee - 172)
2) Erelace's reward: 134460 / 351 = 383. (50% reduction for delay in game would leave it at 192 if necessary)

740 (winner BP total) * 30 = 22200 / 2 (# of winners) = 11100
1) Josep's reward: 11100 / 1494 = 7. (1/2 this is min reward for referee - 3)

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Match outcome and math do not match. Josep is not two people. Kecil & Erelace are not one. Not sure what happened. Please correct post so I can delete this one and close match.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

Not to contradict anyone, just trying to clarify if I can, since you said you're not sure what happened. I'm going to go through how I read it, step by step using the formulas under "Finishing a Match", quotes in bold:

LoserTeamTotal #BP * 90 = LoseX / (# of losers) = LoseXPot, so:

LoseX = (total BP of the losing team)*90, and

LoseXPot = (LoseX)/(# of losers)

So, since Josep (1494 BP, 1 player) lost:

LoseX = (1494)*90

LoseXPot = (LoseX)/(1) = 134460

Then, LoseXPot / Winner 1 #BP = Total Rewards for Winner 1, so:

Total Rewards for Winner 1 (Kecil) = 134460/(Kecil's BP) = 134460/389 = 345

Similarly, LoseXPot / Winner 2 #BP = Total Rewards for Winner 2, so:

Total Rewards for Winner 2 (Erelace) = 134460/(Erelace's BP) = 134460/351 = 383, or if reduced by half, 191.

For the other side, WinnerTeamTotal #BP * 30 = WinX / (# of winners), so:

WinX = (total BP of the winning team)*30, and

WinXpot = (WinX)/(# of winners)

Since Erelace (389 BP) and Kecil (351 BP) (2 players) won:

WinX = (389+351)*30 = 22200, and WinXPot = 22200/(2 winners) = 11100.

Then, WinXPot / Loser 1 #BP = Total Rewards for Loser 1, so:

Total Rewards for Loser 1 (Josep) = 11100/(Loser's BP) = 111000/1494 = 7.

Let me know if I got anything wrong, or if I'm stepping out of my bounds saying it, but hopefully that helps clarify.

Re: Juggernaut #12: Josep vs. Kecil & Erelace

I see.  There is a typo in the equations - dividing each pot by the number of people on the other team rather than dividing each pot between its own team members.  I assumed this was an adjustment to keep someone from stomping on groups of low level characters to get a fast bp rise, but clearly it's off and would be a swing way too far the other way.  As I learned on the railroad, "You know what happens when you assume things? ...  Trains go off the tracks and people die."

Correcting that, the rewards should be:

WINNER(S)
Kecil (389) used 0 hero points
Erelace (351) used 0 hero points

LOSER
Josep  (1494) used 0 hero points

DETAILS
Duration: 8 rounds.
Players: 3 players.

(8 Rounds* 3 Players * 2) + 15 = 63 Total Rewards for Referee.

1494 (loser BP total) * 90 = 134460 / 2 (# of winners) = 67230
1) Kecil's reward: 67230 / 389 = 173 (1/2 this is max reward for referee - 86)
2) Erelace's reward: 67230 / 351 = 192. (50% reduction for delay in game would leave it at 96 if necessary)

740 (winner BP total) * 30 = 22200 / 1 (# of losers) = 22200
1) Josep's reward: 22200 / 1494 = 15. (1/2 this is min reward for referee - 7)
