Cronwier, hearing his opponents yell and the crashing, moved to strike at the floundering barbarian. However, his lash missed as she dodged the all too obvious blow.

The doors material wasn't specified, so I'll say they're some composite of a bunch of things (wood, nails, metal reinforcement, framed in stone).

Oh, my bad. I misremembered what was given - as it turns out, only Disable Device and Break DC was listed. A simple wooden door has a break DC of 13, compared to this door's 12, so we'll call it that. AC 3, 10 hp, hardness 5.

Having enough of his opponent hiding from sight, Cronwier took a moment to focus his vision. As he opened his eyes and surveyed his surroundings, Cronwier immediately noticed Boadicea beneath him and in a moment of elated distraction, lost control of his flight.

SUMMARY: Cronwier is now under the effects of see invisibility for 10 minutes and failed a fly check.

OOC: And I have been an idiot, I forgot that I have see invisibility as a spell like ability. Also I am assuming I plummet to the ground based on the nat 1 on the fly check, but I'm not sure how that works given that Boadicea is possibly beneath me and we are over lava?

Re: Duel #208: Boadicea vs. Cronwier

See Invis actually doesn't help you here, for now.

Failing a fly check merely means you do not take the action you were attempting. Failing by 5 or more results in a plummet. So I'd say you either must move at least half your speed, OR choose to plummet.

Re: Duel #208: Boadicea vs. Cronwier

Sorry I forgot we were waiting on me. Can Cronwier fly to D7+8 then, basically flying straight up and then moving from side to side as he tries to regain control after he flies up into the force barrier? If that is okay with everyone involved, then feel free to proceed with your turn Boadicea.

Re: Duel #208: Boadicea vs. Cronwier

In reply to Cronwier (msg # 65):

You can, however, that is both a turn of greater than 45 degrees (90 degrees straight up) and flying up at an angle greater than 45 degrees (90 degrees straight up). So you will need to make two fly checks, DC 15 and 20, and will spend 5 extra feet of movement. Unless you fly 5 feet only, in which case you will only need to make a DC 10 check, as it will count as "move less than half speed".

Re: Duel #208: Boadicea vs. Cronwier

Just my two cents but if you fail the check shouldn't your movement be that which does not require a check as you have already shown not to have control over your ability enough to do complex monuvers.

Re: Duel #208: Boadicea vs. Cronwier

In reply to Boadicea (msg # 70):

By a RAW interpretation, there are no penalties for failure beyond not completing the attempted action, except in the noted case of failing by 5 or greater, so there's no ambiguity there. By RAI, I would say the plummet upon failure by 5 or greater fulfills the role of completely removing control over flight. That part's debatable, but with RAW and partial RAI favoring this ruling, I'm going to roll with that.

There is an argument to be made that failing the Fly check should cost you the action used to execute it, however, as with most movement-related checks (e.g. trying to jump over an object), I think there is precedent to say only the consumed movement is lost. In this case, Hover consumes no movement, so nothing is lost. Though, even if the entire move action was consumed, a 5 foot step will still suffice.

Sorry all it has been a really busy week for me, I turn 21 in an hour and have to deal with a bunch of bogus extended family nonsense. Feel free to call the 48 hour rule, given that it has been like 5 days, but I won't be able to post until late Sunday. Sorry again for the inconvenience and holding you up.

Due to the referee AND one of the players going MIA for more than 48 hours twice for each of them (collectively more than 8 days of waiting), this match is cancelled.

No rewards or penalties will result from this match as the referee has gone MIA.
