Entire map is under water except 0 which is sea level beach and 1+ which are raised land. The +3 is a 15' tree which medium-sized and small creatures can climb and provides cover. The tree can only handle about 250 pounds of weight before it collapses. Climb DC15.

Vry enters the arena, stepping out behind her familiar - who this fight comes running onto the island in the shape of a reptile somewhat larger than it's master. Riddiz the goblin steps onto the little island in their corner, drawing his bow, snickering as he watches the enemies enter the arena. "Eh eh, them weaklings, we'll kill 'em!"
"Do not be so sure of yourself. They are much stronger than you are."
Riddiz clinches his teeth, letting an arrow rest on the string, steeling himself for battle.
"I will take them down... But I expect they will dismember you first."
"Rraah!" The goblin growls, as Vry begins casting her spells. As the first one makes her pet swell up at an uncontrollable rate, she casts another spell, strengthening her companions aswell as herself. Taff then begins floating out into the arena, moving up onto the middle island.

I rolled spellcraft checks to identify the spells cast, but with a -9 for distance, I don’t suppose I identify anything do I?

 Ankou rolled 26,25 using D20+16,d20+16 with rolls of 10,9.  Spellcraft: identify std spell & quick spell

I already took the -9 due to distance, so assuming the spells are level 15 or lower, please let us know what the spells are?

Lyn stepped through the doors into the around, and growled when she saw the water filling up the space around her. She stepped back into the corner quickly, and turned her attention towards the Gnome standing on the other side of the arena.

She focused her attention first to her sword, causing a multitude of lights to dance along the blade, and then to herself, before taking a step forward and looking towards the animal in the middle of the Arena.

Spells: Ooze Form III, quickened Haste! :) And the first spell should answer the swim question. I think knowledge nature is still what you need to know more about Taff, should there be anything more you want to know...

Huge Ooze gets Swim speed 30, so that does answer that.

Spellcraft DC is 17, so.
Lyn cast Intensified Shocking Grasp onto her armor.

On the Ooze knowledge front... Familiar's don't have a CR, so the DC to knowledge would be 5+CR, total 5?  As DC is <10, I can make the check untrained.

20:44, Today: Lyn rolled 8 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 4.  Know(Dung) vs Taff to ID, DC5?

Result is 8, so please provide 1 piece of information regarding the type of ooze Taff is, in line with Monster Lore usage of Knowledge. Ideally, I'd like to know 1 type of immunity or weakness.

Maelstrom tumbled into the arena and sprang to his feet. Immediately after entering he gave each Ankou and Lyn a thumbs up but they didn’t notice. They were both studying Vry and whatever she was doing. He briefly looked at his opponent, but he couldn't read magic like the others.

He did not know Vry. Passed her in the hallway once or twice. She seemed like a good character though she did join the guild of scum and villainy. I suppose you shouldn’t judge someone for their friends.

Maelstrom began his stretches but froze. Pure terror entered his eyes as he saw something move across the arena. It looked like a floating fortress but it had eyes. Maelstrom silently mouthed “We are going to need a bigger gun…” He quickly pulled something out of his pouch, dowsed himself with it and winked out of existence.

DICE ROLLS: 17:01, Today: Maelstrom rolled 44 using 1d20+40 with rolls of 4.  Stealth, juggernaut. Not sure if I get +20 for invisibility. If not, my stealth is 20 lower.


   SUMMARY: Maelstrom pulls out an item! He uses the item! He disappears! Also, is Taff a valid target for Ooze form? The spell says the target has to be you. Not sure if Taff being your animal companion changes that or not.

Taff is no longer a reptile, but a horribly alien, formless being. About the size of half a house, the black mass that was once Taff floats - or perhaps slithers - towards the central island. Making it's way forward, it almost melds into the water, the black surface curving into a huge wave - if one did not know that the shadowy wave was in fact the monster, the thought of what horrors moved underneath that surface to cause such a wave would be sufficient to drive any man or woman insane. As it ascends on the island, it again forms into that large mass, the ever-changing shape of which is too weird to comprehend. For a moment, a belt can be seen inside the being, floating within what appears to be a bubble made out of something yellow. Then the string to something that could be an amulet floats to the surface within the being, only to quickly be swallowed back within the mass. The enemies of the monster spring to action, preparing for the fight that is ahead of them. One casts her spells, another throws dust in the air and vanishes. The monster, ever moving, does not seem to react to the preparations. Then, leathery skin grows into field large as a warrior's shield on the side of that monstrosity. The skin moves, pulled upward, revealing under it a huge yellow eye - the pupil not round but in a vertical line like that of a reptil's eye. As the eyelid melds back into the body, disappearing in that black mass, the eye stares straight at the monk who just a second ago thought he had vanished.

Yes, Taff is a valid target even though range is Personal :)
Also, he has blindsight 60ft - which by my calculations extend all the way up to A2/B1! So if you left A1, I'll want to know what happened, and if you didn't, I'll want to know that Taff can't see you :P

Grunyar can correct me on this, but I do not think Taff can see me (I am in range). I suppose the cat's out of the bag for what I'm using. I'll just post it. I bolded the relevant parts. Dust of disappearance is different from standard invisibility. It does not allow detection by magical means. Taff gained blindsight 60ft from the Ooze Form III spell, ergo a magical means.

Dust of Disappearance:

This dust looks like dust of appearance and is typically stored in the same manner. a creature or object touched by it becomes invisible (as greater invisibility). Normal vision can’t see dusted creatures or objects, nor can they be detected by magical means, including see invisibility or invisibility purge. Dust of appearance, however, does reveal people and objects made invisible by dust of disappearance. Other factors, such as sound and smell, also allow possible detection. The greater invisibility bestowed by the dust lasts for 2d6 rounds. The invisible creature doesn’t know when the duration will end.

Ooze Form III spell

This spell functions as ooze form II except you can also assume the form of a Huge ooze. You gain blindsight 60 feet

Because Taff's blindsight came from a spell and dust of disappearance prevents me from being detected by magical means, I should be undetectable.

I like the logic however it is flawed, the magic is not being used to find you it is scent/vibration/noise to find you magic just gave it better ears/touch/nose

Purely a question - That said, couldn't the same argument be use for See Invisibility? It just makes your eyes better?

Well, see invisibility is specifically mentioned in the item, and that spell does not give any senses - which ooze form does.
I suppose Taff would also know whether Maelstrom ran, flew, swam or teleported there!

Really wondering how Maelstrom gets over the whole map though! Without using a hero point, only with a swift action, spending two ki points and moving over the whole map. And a quick runner's shirt can't be used to activate supernatural abilities, can it?

The Ankou was quite different from last time he had entered the arena. Still cloaked in large black shrouds, but this time he was carrying a pole arm and wearing wooden armour. For buoyancy, one could guess.

He quickly doubled in size, along with his gear, and his skin takes a metallic hue.
His arms are now longer and reach the ground almost, but more noticeable is the fact he has two heads !

I'll have to dispute that though, as I cannot believe that one can move over the whole map and use 2 ki points in one swift action. 'Uses' do not list any hero points but do say "1/? item" which also must have happened in that same swift action, since dust of disappearance does not have several uses. I'm thinking that means a quick runner's shirt has been activated (swift action), giving another move action that has to be used to move, and that that action was used to activate a supernatural ability which was used to move on the map.

And, I mean, if when Flying is not allowed that means that fly speeds and fly spells are not allowed but levitate is allowed - then flying refers to those speeds and spells (which is flying, literally) and not to the general act of moving through the air without touching the ground or jumping (which is flying, but loosely); and that in turn should mean that using a move action to move refers to actually moving by using a move speed (which is moving, literally - also see the move action description which has a subheading called 'Move') and not to doing anything that will also change one's position on the map (which is moving, but loosely).

Either things happened in a completely different way, or I'll want Arkrim's confirmation that the shirt actually works this way.

Right, I see! There are many conditions that impede moving in different ways though, that would interact strangely with such an effect: unable to move, move at half speed, etc. Teleporting while blind would come with a risk of falling only if teleporting certain distances. Sinking ships could not be teleported to different locations even by level 20 wizards, etc. What I mean is, I think the wording for the shirt specifies using a move action to move up to one's move speed, swimming or climbing, as per the action description:

If the RAI was to restrict the type of movement it would be written as such (as the current wording was errata'd a while back) RAW just says to move and what he did was such a move from one location to another.  He asked me before doing it I give him my ruling and I stand behind it. As it as written you are even unable to draw a weapon during the movement and if the form of movement he used was worded any differently I would agree but it makes no mention of casting or activating just states the restrictions using a spell as reference.

The lumbering monstrosity turns right where it stands, chasing after the threat to it's master that just now appeared right next to her. It does not even make it half way through the water before, from that dark shadow on the water, a thick strand extends all the way over the the island where the monster once came from. What is supposedly some sort of arm to that alien being slams into something not visible to the eyes of most other creatures, and there is a fizzling sound as part of the semi-liquid being sticks to the invisible monk, burning him. The gnome takes care, as she begins weaving a spell - a sparkle in her eye hinting about some twisted plan beginning to take shape. As she finishes, she twists and turns towards the Ankou, quickly casting another spell at the druid, a spell which is followed by a barrage of arrows launched from the goblin's bow.

Lyn laughed as the creature turned it's attention towards the monk.  He wasn't the only one who could move across the arena at the bink of an eye.  Pausing for a moment to gather herself, Lyn started moving faster and faster.  Her rapier tip reached forward, and opened a door in the arena.  She stepped through and without missing a beat caught Vry 3 times, her rapier glowing brightly with each hit, and the dancing colours moving to dance across Vry instead.

If it helps with me saying it, Taff gets the reach from the being he is polymorphed into.
Also, Lyn make a Will save DC26. There will likely be no observable effect at once.

After Maelstrom zipped from his island to Vry’s, he slowly turned to look at Taff. When Taff slowly turned to look at Maelstrom, Maelstrom eyes went wide with terror “NOOOO! How do you see me!?” The shopkeeper said the dust would turn him invisible. In the midst of his rant, something lashed out and smacked him for a good bit of damage.

While still trying to figure out how the gelatinous blob was able to see him, Lyn appeared next to him. Maelstrom rolled his eyes at Lyn’s appearance. Apparently his super cool technique, stepping through the fabric of reality – anybody could do. Shaking his head he focused on Vry.

He was going to punch the sorcerer, but he didn’t quite trust that smile. Riddiz wasn’t smiling. And he looked very punchable. Maelstrom stepped left and laid into the goblin with a flurry of blows. He tried to trip the goblin, but eh, no one’s perfect.

The Ankou first extends a hand to point at the oozing monster, imposing his will and freezing him in place.

He then flexes his muscles, both heads roar as the gladiator enters a battle frenzy of a magnitude rarely seen in the arena.

Ankou makes magical contact with Taff, and sees the strange body before him swell. A large bubble of black mass pops, and where it was, a semi-spherical hollow contains three fist-sized yellow eyes - each of them staring at the druid. As the spell pierces into the mind of Taff, all Ankou can see is a darkness, a looming shadow from aeons past. Then the being stretches out toward his isle, and slams through the air - but the troll easily guards against the attack. Vry freezes in place, not moving an inch - doubtlessly as some sort of defensive spell takes effect. Lyn growled as the acid bit through her skin, and glared at the Ooze.  She didn't want to take another hit from him, so taking a breath, she looked at the ground below her, and started to sink into the ground.  Once safe from the Ooze's gaze, she murmered a few words, and her rapier pierced forth from the earth into the Gnome's body 4 times, a rainbow of colours following the initial shock.

Did you cast a freakishly heightened sanctuary?? Bold move if that’s the case. So simple yet so effective.
However if that’s the case I think you should let Lyn know that she was unable to attack, not just that you evaded damage.
Also her shocking grasp would not have discharged in that case.
And the spell affords only one save, not one every time one attacks (if that’s your question).

In this setting asking for the save when interacting is about the best way asking for much else would give it away.  As no stealth roll was rolled the DC to find Vry is - so as long as a perception roll is made you get her location.

So, let me get this straight

After I attacked last turn, I realised it was an illusion and as such Vry wasn't there for me to attack this turn?

Or was it only after 4+ attacks/passed will save that the illusion was dispelled?

Maelstrom felt an oddity coming from just west of Taff. Focusing his energy, noticing the drifting wind, he could sense villainy. Right there, floating next to Taff. So, I assumed the waters are calm and ordinary which should put the DC at 10, and thus I think Riddiz made the swim check (which he rolled only to see if he stayed above the surface). I also think that means he’s not flat-footed, so only your first attack would hit?

Edit. I see the swim check. I suppose my argument would be that because Riddiz swim check was not listed in the Action line, it didn't happen. All actions MUST be listed in the action line (can be PM'd to ref if action is private). From reading Riddiz's action line, I see a 5ft shift (free) and a scream (free). Nothing else was listed.

I believe there is a GM ruling on this somewhere in one of the matches. I can look for it.

I don't think it is an action, but rather something Riddiz has to do since he is in water - and if the swim check would be invalid he would sink 5 feet (in addition to being off balance).

Make a Swim check once per round while you are in the water. Success means you may swim at up to half your speed (as a full-round action) or at a quarter of your speed (as a move action). If you fail by 4 or less, you make no progress. If you fail by 5 or more, you go underwater.

From what I can see, it isn't even labeled a free action to make the swim check to stay above the surface.

Meaning if I take 18 damage, roll swim vs DC24 and roll a total of 17; I'll sink 7x5=35feet?
I think there has been a mistake in the phrasing there, "descend 5 feet plus 5 feet for every 5 points you failed by" seems more reasonable and standard.

yes your swim check was made, a note in the action line should be there to inform us as to why he made such a check because as written his actions are 5 foot step into water and sink because he made no action besides scream.  Now if we throw out the swim check he sinks if swim  is allowed then he is within range of Maelstrom's attacks. As for the rules that is how it is written that is how it is to be followed

It wouldn't change Ankou's turn anyway, dwarves don't waste time on goblins. Even when they're polymorphed into two-headed trolls and said goblin owns three arrows currently lodged in their shoulder.

You mentioned my Fauchard took 12 points of damage, does that make any difference on its stats? It's my first time in that situation if I'm honest. It is a Large Masterwork Non-magical Fauchard.


The Ankou is in such a state of battle-frenzy that he barely notices the "duh" moment as Lyn realises she has been wasting attacks on an illusion. Truth be told, it was to be expected from a gnome, wasn't it?

The polymorphed dwarf turned giant raises his polearm and in a quick succession of slices, lays waste on the Oozing Dinosaur that is floating in the water.

A non-magical Fauchard as a Hafted 2-handed weapon has Hardness 5. As a Large weapon, it has HP20.

With 12 damage, It will resist 5, and take 7 down to 13, so no current effect.

Once it is below 10HP, it is Broken, and has -2 to attack rolls, 20/x2 Crit rating.

Stepping in before Vry or Grunyar does though, did you remember to roll reflex save to prevent the damage?

Alright... Good hits. This cannot be the intention of the rules though, that a creature which can effortlessly remain in the water would suddenly be propelled as if hit by a bull rush with a check exceeding it’s CMD by something like 40, towards the bottom of the ocean. Say I summon a dolphin. It jumps up from the water and smashes ankou with its very magical tail fin, he takes 80 damage and is ready to strike back. He attacks, dealing 20 damage and - conversely to the first attack - things don’t end there. The dolphin happens to roll a bad swim check and suddenly flies 40 feet towards the bottom of the water. As if the dolphin was at the same risk of suddenly falling, that a bird in the air is.
Riddiz plunges towards the depths so fast that he - if he did everything as well as he could, without magical help - could not have done the same dive in less than 3 full rounds.

Now, I’m not sure if there is anything I can do about the situation as long as that’s what’s written.
There is, at least, a DC cap at 20+ 2*ankou lvl. And his weapon may break before the second or third hit. Rolling that damage, then I’ll need a new DC to beat.

As it relates to Ankou and his weapon, don't forget about this as well - he would halve the acid dmg before applying hardness. So for the first dmg of 12, it would be halved to 6 and then apply hardness 5, so it would only take 1 point of dmg.

I have to agree with Vry, the rule doesn’t make sense if you’re not much heavier than water, like a metal golem, or someone in full plate... at the very least the speed at which you sink should be capped to the creature’s swim speed. Or to just 10ft.
Or the hit creature should get the prone condition as if on ground, or checked condition as if airborne.

Riddles move over the huge monstrous body of the strange magical being who was, up until about 20 seconds ago, inhabiting the body of a salamander. The body - which now bears no trace of the agile reptilian creature it once was - trembles as it seems to constantly form anew out of the water around it, and suddenly it attacks straight back at the troll it was just assaulted by. After one dodge, the second slam hits and sticks to the Ankou, quickly enveloping him and pulling him out on the water, squeezing the life out of him as burning rays come shooting through the air. Then, as if the monster suddenly tightens its grip, all air leaves the lungs of the troll wrestling with it. The caster of the dark magic making its way into the trolls body is still nowhere to be found. The goblin is easily spotted though. A dark speck seen through the surface of the water in the south-east corner of the arena. It is hard to see what he's doing down there, but one thing is certain: he's not swimming upwards.

Maelstrom is correct somewhat, if you cast a spell while you where falling or anything else that makes noise/smell/or something visible to the others they would know you did it.

That is why while using stealth I like to put all actions in my line even some I didn't do and fill in in PM to ref what I truly did keeps 'em guessing

Lyn decided it was time to change how she was fighting, and steeling her nerves, she popped her head out from the ground, and fired a quick lightning bolt at the location Mael had mentioned, making sure to zap through the Ooze on the way through.  She quickly then popped her head back underground before the Ooze or Gnome had a chance to react.

Additionally, you last moved to T20-1, which is 10 not 5 foot from S19+1. So that means 5-foot step is not a legal action either, leaving us with a lightning bolt - and that probably does not extend far when it first hits the ground?

Oops, you're right.

I had meant to move 1 square below the Doppleganger so I was in range last turn. If I was at T20-1, then my attack would of been out of range, and it would of been an illegal move as well. I got mixed up with the +1 on the corners.  Also forgot I can't move and 5-ft in the same turn.

If Grunyar and Vry are happy though, I'll trade my 5-ft step for a move action to S19+1, and then end my turn after casting?

My thoughts, further: Riddiz was unable to do anything else than what was stated in the actions row, so I - and I am not the judge - think the same should go for Lyn. And I did notice now that your last turn you took a similar five-foot step, Lyn. As you stated you moved to -1, I took it as sight and reach to Lyn being blocked and acted accordingly, unable to target Lyn; and as such I wish that Lyn is not interpreted as being in a position above -1 when the turn starts.
If combat posts are in any way unclear or vague (as determined by the Referee), the person treated at fault is always the poster who failed to make their actions explicitly clear.

Those are my couple of cents.

I thought I was clear and the game progressed as such Riddiz made his swim check if that is what you are referring to, the latter part of my first statement was just saying that in the future you should note it in the action line especially when he does nothing else,
if he had swam to another stop then we would be looking for it or just a simple "5 foot step and tread water" would have given some clue as to what he did.

Well, Riddiz took damage being flat-footed as if he failed the save since it was not in the actions... that’s how I understood your intentions, and maybe I misunderstood, but I don’t think it was a bad call by you. I do however think that the same should go for Lyn - she described what she did and should not get to do so again. But you are the ref.

The way I see it, either:

Option A: Last turn, Lyn took a 5" step from S19+1 but moved a total of 10" to T20-1, and as such couldn't attack Vry.  This means no Will save and no one would know that the Vry in the corner was a simulcrum.  Lyn then moves 5" back to S19+0, and casts lightning bolt. Whether the bolt can transverse the 5" or so of ground needed to get to open air is another question.

Option B: Lyn took last turn at her intended position of T20+0, and Moves into the open air to cast her bolt.  She then tries to move but isn't able to.

Both of these options are doing exactly as Lyn described, it's simply a matter of where did Lyn begin the turn.

The way I see it: Your option A, But this turn Lyn tries to take a five foot step to S19+1, fails. Casts lightning bolt in her position underground, then possibly uses a move action to move to R18-1.

As for Lyn's turn, her location at the start of her turn is not being changed.  I believe it was a mistake she did not purposefully move there to cheat.
It was not brought to anyone's attention until after her next turn and would cause a complicated retcon.

As for this turn just adjust the "5 foot step (free)" to move action and all is good.  Everyone is learning no need to be super strict not like this is a belt match between veterans.

Works for me. I use a move action to S19+1, then cast lightning bolt and end my turn there.  I am exposed for Taff to eat me up though.

Taff takes 35 damage(DC17 Half), and Vry takes the same if still in M17+2

Maelstrom felt like being a hero. His valiant ally was in trouble! Maelstrom could have sworn Taff said “Get over here!” when he pulled Ankou across the water. Lyn risked her very life to bring the beast down and now it was Maelstrom’s turn.

Maelstrom moved as fast as the wind toward the beast, but as carefully he could to avoid any attacks. Slipping into the water, he moved next to the Ooze monster and unleashed a flurry of blows.

As Taff begins to sink, Maelstrom fist pumps the air "Success!"

The Ankou felt the oozing dinosaur suddenly go limp, and let go of his hold. He would have sighed of relief, but he was still suffocating a bit from Vry’s mean spell. One of his trollish heads turned to Maelstrom and nodded in acknowledgement.

The polymorphed giant dwarf troll was surprisingly still standing on the water, before the floating corpse of a massive beast. He seemed to have lost his halberd in the grapple, but didn’t mind that the slightest. Claws out, he jumped ahead toward where he thought the gnome was hovering. This was likely his last strike, so he better make it hurt. The Druid quickly uttered and incantation as he lunged forward, making his attack more deadly and precise.

The Ankou tried to maintain a hold on the gnome !

Ankou wears an Amulet of Mighty Fist: Heatseeker, which I think applies to special attacks such as grapple commencement.

You do get an aoo however, assuming you can reach Ankou’s square.

I just realised, grapple says that you should move the grappled adjacent to the grappler, does that mean Vry moves to M17,+0 ? Or is M17,+2 sufficiently adjacent to Ankou’s position already?

Act Out of Turn:
You can spend a hero point to take your turn immediately. Treat this as a readied action, moving your initiative to just before the currently acting creature. You may only take a move or a standard action on this turn.


Just to be clear, if you’re actually doing this, it replaces your turn, you’re not also taking your turn afterwards. Is that not how you read this?

Oh shit, I thought it was an extra action out of turn. Too little time to read up leads to mistakes... The intention was, as stated, to interrupt before Ankou's swift action however.

Sorry, with the retcon I completely forgot I would still start the round stagggered.
Hence cannot full-attack, contrary to what I rolled for.
Should I keep just the first roll as a standard attack?

Interposing hand would take 23 damage, and that’s it from Ankou...
Actually 28 damage, because I would add 1 1/2 Strength bonus if I use only one primary natural attack.

Grunyar, what should I do?

Maelstrom continues to wade water and stare up at the mage he couldn’t see. Blast. Not much he could do against a flying opponent. Why could they all fly?

Well he was still invisible, so might as well stealth.

The shimmering magical field around Ankou tightens its grip, and pushes him down on the surface of the water - the supernatural strength too much for Ankou to handle. The invisible gnome sorceress, and the buzzing noise about her, moves towards the south... But something small, glowing flies in the opposite direction at an awful speed. Just before anyone has time to turn their head fully around to watch the luminous speck, there is a low Woooofh! and flames fan out, licking the skin of her enemies. Then Lyn feels a sharp pain in her chest, as her lungs are suddenly compressed inside her.

ooc: darn! completely forgot about pinned... I knew there was some reason I should have broken the grapple :( 

The Ankou is badly burnt by the fireball, which also prevents him from regenerating some of his injuries...

He draws from his heroic prowess to break the grapple, then unleashes a flurry of attacks on the giant fleshy hand.
  "I'm coming for you, Vry !!" he howls.

Question half out of interest, half out of self-preservation :) Are you sure you have the third bite attack? One usually does not gain extra natural attacks from high BAB (but instead gain them from having more limbs).

How was Vry able to do this?

Also, I would like to object to the Suffocation spell. Per arena rules, 'death' effects have been modified. My argument against it is pretty simple. Anything that can make you go from 1,000 hp to 0 hp based on 1 failed save is a 'death' or 'death-like' effect and should be modified per arena RAI.

Vry didn't act at the top of round four, her initiative is not right before Ankou's, so she acted second last in round four. It didn't consume any turn, but rather placed her in the turn order later in the round and gave her one (1) standard action. If it did consume any turn, it moved my turn from round 4 to round 3, and as my initiative changed the round 5 turn moved to round 4 and so on. I can't see any other interpretation being a balanced way of using the hero points, I did sacrifice my swift & move actions as well as a hero point to move to right before Ankou - sacrificing a standard action, two move actions, two swift actions, and the ability to react at all while you take a total of five turns would never be worth that.

And I totally agree with your objection, suffocation should absolutely be treated as an auto-kill effect. All I've found on these effects is arena immunities... As such, if arena immunities do protect Lyn from the effects of the spell (which is by no means guaranteed), I do hope she'll tell me so that I can instead roll up the damage that replaces the effects of the spell.

To make my argument about the turns clearer:
Round 4 turn was moved up near the end of round 3.
What happens to the round 5 turn? Stay in my original initiative? Pretty sure not, as the hero point rules state that my initiative changes. Would the round 5 turn be taken at reduced initiative? Reducing initiative was not part of my hero point usage. No, it’s gotta move up initiative the same way my hero point brought up half of my last turn.

I think a better to look at this is that in round 3, by spending a hero point you had an extra standard action at the end of the round. Your initiative was then moved to right before Ankou. You then get your full round actions for round 4 (and subsequent rounds).

At least that’s how I see it. I think mainly the rules don’t really cover a situation when you Act Out Of Turn if you’ve already taken your actions for the round (although it doesn’t spell out that you can’t)

Let’s leave Grunyar to decide though.

With the old rules yes she would have lost her standard action on this turn however we now go by the official reading it allows for her to do as she did because it treats her action as a readied action so as long as you do it after your turn you get an extra action that round do it before and you loose a "turn" because your init is moved to that spot.

Lyn takes full damage from Fireball, and as such is under 50% HP. Arena Immunity doesn't apply, and as such I take nothing from passed Suffocation save, not 50% damage. '/phew

Lyn growled as the flames licked her skin, but easily shrugged off the second spell Vry had tried to cast.  Now it was her turn, and though she had easily found the gnome, hitting her seemed to be another matter entirely.

Maelstrom growled under his breath. The mage was tricky. But the potion he drank was sure to help.

Maelstrom slowly started to float out of the water. Jinkies, he was flying. Wobbly at first, but he eventually got the hang of it. He started to float toward the mage and attempted to grab him by the scruff of his clothes to shake some sense into the sorcerer.

Identify Spell Being Cast
Identifying a spell as it is being cast requires no action, but you must be able to clearly see the spell as it is being cast, and this incurs the same penalties as a Perception skill check due to distance, poor conditions, and other factors.


So, seeing the spell as it is being cast... As the spell does not have any direct visual effects, like for example a color spray does, the spellcraft check is probably affected by invisibility?

I'd love to say yes, but grapple and bull rush are the only things it can do - and it's instructed to do the first. Both those are standard action, not attacks, and thus cannot be done as AoO. If I did tell it to be between us, however, I think it would be impossible for you to get around it.

The Ankou walked around the hand, and looked at Maelstrom grappling an invisible creature... he timed his strike to avoid hitting the monk. His monstrous jaw closed on the gnome, and no amount of concealment would fool him.

I think I know the spell you used and if it is what I think, it has both somatic and material components. Now you could have feats or other special abilities to ignore those components but if not, I don't think you can use the spell while grappled.

d20pfsrd.com is quite unclear on that topic, owing I think to the fact that paizo have never issued an official statement on what is actually false and what is correct. However, looking up the latest rulebooks as well as paizo's own website, it becomes clear that the "can't cast spells with somatic components" thingy is meant to apply to pinned and not to grappled.

Quoting myself from Duel #214: Tinny Tina vs. Vry, msg #38:
Vry:
I've heard there's some controversy surrounding that...

Core Rulebook 6th printing, p. 567:
Grappled: A grappled creature is restrained by a creature,
trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4
penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty
on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those
made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled
creatures
can take no action that requires two hands to
perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or
use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC
10 + grappler’s CMB + spell level, see page 206), or lose the
spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.
A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from
the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as
hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If

to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.

You may be right about this one. Honestly, they say pinned is a more severe form of grappling but they seemed more or elss the same to me (excluding dex penalty). If only pinned prevented any spells from being cast with Somatic or Material components, that would make a lot more sense to me as being more severe. Ultimately, I think I agree with you here.

But one more argument to go!

As Maelstrom’s allies were attacking the mage, he almost felt bad. And then he realized the mage sent a giant Ooze monster to attack them. He didn’t feel so bad anymore.

As Ankou took a bite out Vry, he suddenly wished he was not so close to the mage.  Do ogre's eat humans? But he wasn't going to say that to the two-headed Ogre. Instead he yelled "Great job valued team member!"

Now that he had the mage in his grasp he tightened his grip; pinning the creature. “No more spells for you.” He hoped.

As Maelstrom had Vry in a headlock, he looked over his shoulder noticed Riddiz. “Vry, tell your man to stand down. There is no more honor for him in this fight. There is only monk justice.”

Maybe I missed something, but didn’t you succeed on that concentration check?
Not that I’m crazy about the idea that you’d cast a spell whilst pinned, but I don’t want to rob you of that opportunity either.

The huge fleshy hand, though severely damaged, managed to grab the Ankou... but that would do little more than hinder his mobility...

He looked at Maelstrom, who was clearly holding an invisible gnome in a headlock, and he nodded a thanks to the monk. Without hesitating or thinking about how cruel it was for the helpless gnome, the two-headed troll unleashed fangs and claws on the immobile sorceress.

It got messy.

Should be 121 then!
Vry is unconscious and dying etc. And she was so close to dimension door:ing to the roof of the arena and perhaps getting another couple of rounds to screw you guys up. Note to self: Do not rely on spells that would require several more preparation rounds to actually take effect in the game...

Lyn has 1,141BP and used 0BP.

Not that it makes any difference anymore, but apparently has no Alignment as well. Must change that.

Grunyar, I used only 2 hero points.

 - one in round 1 to pass my save vs hold person
 - one in round 4 to break a grapple

(I had used an other one in the round 3 that was retconned)
