Re: Duel #229: Igar vs. Grunyar

Igar-Kruk for his part merely advanced at a leasurely pace - for his speed at least - and came to a halt a short distance away from the familliar he'd fight this time. Hopefully it wouldn't be nearly as humiliating as last time. He then waited, arms crossed, for the fight to begin.

Just add another post with the update. We all make mistakes.

If you get into a rules lawyering mat h about your post. And your post had been edited, you almost always automatically lose. And you could be given fouls over it. There are many reasons why we dont want them touched.

However, 5he GM or Ref may ask you to edit your post and that becomes ok.

Re: Duel #229: Igar vs. Grunyar

Igar, your FFCMD is way off. It's much higher. You may have screwed yourself un less grunyar let's you update your stat blocks in another post. And your monk bonus to armor and wisdom bonus to ffac is off as well. Lower than it should be.

Note if you make an error and forgot to set the correct AC, save etc two things can happen:

1. If it is higher you can get a penalty equal to double the bonus you overused.

2. If it is Lower your opponent can use this incorrect stat to target. IE, your FFAC should be several points higher at least.

Since you are in a match I'm not going to tell you the number it should be, you'll have to fix that on your own if you survive grunyar's attacks. Or.if grunyar is merciful since you're new. He may let you update. Discretion is with him.

Grunyar lays a hand on Rex while casting a spell and both are teleported across the arena.  He then casts spell from a scroll and Rex grows Huge and Charges Igar pouncing on him.  The demon moves over beside Rex laying a hand on him he disappears as Grunyar had instructed him to do.

Re: Duel #229: Igar vs. Grunyar

Um... Gunyar? When you initiate a grapple, then both you and the target creature count as grappled.

So...

quote:
A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler’s CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If a grappled creature becomes invisible, through a spell or other ability, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on its CMD to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.

You should have -4 to Rex's Dex, but that's not reflected in his Reflex Save, so I think you might have forgotten. If you have, then I'm willing to let you correct it amicably on account of you letting me correct my AC/CMD amicably.

The second point is... your invisibility is not going to help you much I'm afraid.

Well, next turn Rex will release the grapple and when he grabs Igar again he'll release the next grapple at the end of the round.

Assuming of course Rex is able to act next turn.

PS : Note to self : take blind fighting next time instead of pointless shooting feats for shits and giggles.

What he means is that in the rules to grapple someone it does not mention anything about stealth or invisibility. So invisibility works the same way to admission AA grapple . However, both the initiate or and the target receive the krapels condition. Under the grappled condition it States this:

A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If a grappled creature becomes invisible, through a spell or other ability, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on its CMD to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.

About to start rolling just dawned on me is that because you are able to see him (he does not get FFAC on first attack) or is it because he was grappling you?

Because the grapple rules mean that being invisible while involved in a grapple is slightly more useful than being invisible and covered by glitterdust. Igar-Kruk can't see invisibilty yet.

Too bad you can't buy See Invisibility with permanency like a magical item, and that since the spell can be made permanent easily enough there ain't a simple "passive see invisibility" magical item.

Re: Duel #229: Igar vs. Grunyar

Grunyar caata a spell on Rex which causes his muscles to ripple and grow then he readys himself to put up a defensive wall after area is finished with his attack as Igar gave him a good beating in the last exchange. " Rex move away from him after you are finished playing with him (this round)"Rex fails to pin the monk and step  back.  Grunyar uses his scroll and a clear wall appearance across the field taller than Igar.

Igar-Kruk looked over at Rex and Grunyar and snorted derisively. Bah, that coward was only delaying the inevitable, one way or the other. With crossed arms he stared at Rex, waiting for his foes to make a move, knowing fully well that the wall was impossible for the gnoll to destroy.

Re: Duel #229: Igar vs. Grunyar

Damn, forgot about Rex's reach. Oh well.

Can't pinpoint it and attack on the same round, so... (in a way that works, as with +40 stealth, the perception check won't ever work. Although... I don't have a difficulty on that check in Grunyar's post)

...

An attack of opportunity would break Rex's invisibility, but I can't do stuff contingent on that reaction, which sucks.

So I can't do anything against Rex.

...

I can't ready both a five foot step and an attack for when Rex attacks me with reach before becoming invisible again...

...
...
...

I hate to even consider doing this, but if I'm rereading the challenge correctly, then it only specifies that only Rex can attack Igar-Kruk, right? Nothing to the effect that Igar-Kruk can't attack Grunyar.

Mind you, it at the very least goes against the spirit of the fight, but what I could do is move over to Grunyar(taking an AoO from Rex along the way, most likely), and then stunning fist the crap out of him and try to win this way.

Am I reading that correctly or am I mistaken?

I put no DC because he attacked and the negatives to stealth way out weigh his +s, so it's just the 50% miss he gets.  You actually can ready a 5' step if you had not moved before reading action.  You are free to attack anyone you want.

Well in that case, don't mind if I do. 50% miss chance is somewhat steep, but it could be worse. There are even something approaching good odds of stunning rex.

Tomorrow. I'm tired right now (it's midnight where I live) and would rather post once rested.

Battered, tired and annoyed, sniffing the air like a rabid bloodhound, pointed ears perked, Igar-Kruk turned to the massive little dinosaur with murder and his eyes and started wailing at his invisible foe, his first punch going wide, but he followed it up with a series of upward spinning kicks, the first one impacting where the Gnoll guessed his opponent's throat was, the second going wide again and the last one hitting closer to the chest, before landing on his feet, ready to continue his fight, uncertain how well-off his foe was due to the invisibility.

Re: Duel #229: Igar vs. Grunyar

To be honest, even if you did, I think a defeat might be preferable than stretching out the fight even further.

Resetting Characters
You can reset a character completely, wiping the slate clean changing their name, race, class, and/or resetting their leader board scores to 0. Doing this costs you 10% of that character's max BP (and all that character's hero points if you reset their leader board score). You must contact a GM by replying to your RTJ PM to get this done. See the Challenge thread for more details about advancement. Note, you do not need to pay this just to adjust your level, items, ability scores, etc

I am changing Race after this fight so I loose the HP anyway figured I would use them
