Re: OOC

revived characters don't have to be the same as they were before... I imagine it would be a pretty traumatic experience... perhaps the deceased spent some time in the after life...

So...you're saying we should whack Arven, let him stew in the afterlife for a bit, then bring him back and hope he's mellowed a bit?

Re: OOC

yah fighting for Tolkeen your death should really just result in a big chunk of your cash being taken out of your pay to go to the guy that raised you lol
in a way that can be a problem

Re: OOC

For me this power is brutally anti-dramatic...

imagine after Luke Skywalker screams NOOOO!!!! after Obi Wan dies, one of their team members is like "It's no big deal I have the resurrection power..."

or after Boromir gets gibbed in LOTR - and after his final speech, they bring his body back - and just get him resurrected...

I would prefer not to have this ability... anywhere.

Perhaps some elder mages know how - like Tyirrak suggested - a spell of legend or something like a massive ritual - including permanent effects to the caster - and person being brought back.

SO - Tyirrak, Ahnaka, Zor - please exchange this ability for something else.

Dalamar - you would likely know of this change to RIfts history and can re-edit yer post. (You too tyirrak).

Dalamar you can assume somebody in Tolkeen would know how to bring your brother back - but you would likley need to pay them. You are just lowly mercenaries after all...

I didn't take that ability, so no worries.

Re: OOC

Just excise the resurrection option from the tattoo -- I'd still like to keep it for its massive heal function.

Re: OOC

you could limit it in some ways
like a person can only be resurected once
then if they die again they are gone

or resurection is not a garountee
like flip a coin and if it fails he is dead and can't be raises but if the coin comes up it's cool he's back

you know something like that

Re: OOC

I say give all those who have been resurrected a 100% chance of coming back with severe brain damage (-5% per point of Mental Endurance).  A failed roll results in reducing your experience level by half and freezing it there, plus your mental attributes are all reduced by 2D6 and you have a 50% chance of the right side of your body being paralyzed.

Re: OOC

I don't think resurrection happens very often in the movies, but when it does, it is not always anti-dramatic, in my opinion.

In "Alien: Resurrection" they were able to bring Ripley back after hundreds of years via a cloning technique.  This basically is equivalent to a magic ritual in Rifts as it would have been pretty costly, and it took a long time to perform.

In "Star Trek: Insurrection" (I think that's the one) Data sacrifices himself at the end and gets blown up in a ship.  But not before he had the chance to download himself into another android.

Now, neither of the above cases resulted in a flawless 'resurrection' as Ripley came back with special powers and a lot of memory loss and Data came back with major memory loss.  But they still came back.

So, I think most everyone would agree, resurrection should be rare and not generally granted to low or mid level player characters.

Re: OOC

Ripley was resurrected as the premise of the story, and data was resurrected as a conclusion. In Tolkeen - this would be the middle of the story - like Obi Wan or Boromir returning to life...

in comics people come back all the time...

Superman was killed - big issue - big drama - then he comes back... and it killed all that drama.

Psylocke was killed on the x-men and then came back

it is at the point where if a main character dies it is more like a vacation before they will be back... VERY anti dramatic.

ok - instead of making resurrection unattainable - it should be possessed by only high level people. And even then - sort of like the genie from aladdin - he doesnt bring people back from the dead he just doesnt like doing it.

or when low level people try it - it is somewhere in between necromancy and resurrection - so that nobody tries it...

Nah, go with the Evil GM method -- resurrection, but the spirit inhabiting the body isn't who it's supposed to be....

Re: OOC

perhaps one of palladiums famous random decision tables:

1-20% : Resurrection works fine
21-40% : Body is resurrected but inhabited by an evil entity from another dimension
41-50% : person is resurrected but all skills are at ahalf and all attributes are minus 5
51-70% : resurrection fails; may not ever try again with this subject, even by another caster
71-90% : Person is now a zombie - same rules as the spell
90-100% : person is resurrected - but life span is reduced to 2D6 months.

or something like that...

Official ruling is that resurrection powers are off-limits to PC's, but not totally wiped clean from the world?

Re: OOC

It isn't a regular Lanotaur ability, it was one of the few random spells they can learn (they only get 1d4+1 or so of those... I have like 3...), and I chose that one... it was a long time ago and I didn't really think it would come up.

I'll choose a differant spell for him instead.

Re: OOC

If anyone is wondering what to do right now - you basically have free movement in Tolkeen. Naturally this isn't time to go to the spa - but rather to prepare to set out again.

Weapons, armour, TW equipment, vehicles, whatever you want - let me know and we will work it out - it doesn't have to be in character.

In your platoon thread - it is pretty much one guy that deals with everything war-wise. You can see a crazy named Zed for any equipment.
