Re: Surviving Mega-=Damage Attacks

Except that I never agreed with his stance on silent Lasers... an SDC laser would be effectively silent sure, but one with the punch of an MD weapon fired in atmosphere would cause a little 'crack' of superheated & ionised air along its path... Kind of like a tiny lightning bolt.

But that's just my opinion. ^_^

I agree with the ionized air. My group has used that rule for a long time. I think it is published somewhere in one of the books... one of them...

Re: Surviving Mega-=Damage Attacks

I don't agree with the ionized air,  the weapon itself would for sure make a hum, but the laser should be silent.

Certainly I've never seen a laser that could do mega damage, but the cutting lasers I've seen have been silent.

It doesn't really matter to me though, if the gm said the lasers sounded like cows I'd be fine with it.  (crosses fingers hoping for bovine inspired laser noises)

Re: Surviving Mega-=Damage Attacks

Basically it's a matter of scale - normal lasers are effectively silent because they simply don't have the kind of power that even an old-fashioned Wilks does... bear in mind 1D6 MD is enough damage to potentially melt a truck -an /entire/ truck.
An MD laser would therefore not merely heat, but flash-superheat the air around it, making it (and even more its Ion weapon cousins) not so much loud but definately audible, like man-mad lightning - though in theory a beam weapon would be a pop-hmmmm, and a pulse weapon would make a cool POP-Pop-pop sound as it fired down the same path. ^_^

Camp Environment

Moloch:

What kind shrubbery is around the camp?  Any trees, small bush?  Or is it plains of grass or even dessert?

Bitch!  : )

Actually I'm trying to picture the area to see what may be of use to me in a fight at this location.  Large Boulders and trees would be nice....

Re: Camp Environment

Some GMs may be willing to create maps of every campsite. I personally don't have the patience to design every bush and boulder. So, if during combat or at its beginning ask me what sort of cover is close to you, and I will let you know. If you want to plan ahead, and sleep right next to some "good" cover, just ask me for each situation.

As for now, the chances of you being attacked by the Coalition is so close to impossible, you guys are like Germans, in Germany during world war 2. It is more likely you will be attacked by your own comrades, or bandits, perhaps monsters.

So for now, my answer is yes there are some forms of cover, in the way of boulders, a couple trees, maybe a bush or two, all within a 100ft radius of the campfire.

Re: Camp Environment

Thanks,  I know it's a pain in the ass, but it helps me to paint a picture of what's around me as oppose to our group around a campfire and void beyond that.  Too much T.V. has taken away my imagination....

Re: Camp Environment

You should start placing objects around your tv and pretending they are part of the show then.

That can help fill the void, and gives you a chance to be creative with your television viewing!

:D

Silvermasque is incorrect. He typed that Jelme went ahead without orders, and ignored teamwork. Jelme was ordered. It is in one of my posts.

I would tend to disagree.  If we let the brodkil shoot first, wouldn't they automatically have the advantage?

Re: OOC

There is no sign that the Brodkil are exceedingly nervous. If one were to look around, numerous members of your group look nervous or worse. Sarah, Van, and Saila among them. And I am pretty sure Lotus may have been a little tense.

ah well good luck...

Re: OOC

Move first, not shoot first... haven't you ever watched a good, dramatic facedown scene? - whether spaghetti western or samuari cheese, it's always the weaker one who chickens out first and shoots/draws... ^_^

And by nervous I don't mean worried... I mean 'twitchtwitchtwitch trigger twitchtwitch...' perhaps tense would have been a better choice of words.

Oh, and as an additional... I've no idea what system we're going to try to run this combat in (as regards special rules for aiming, dodging & the like) since it does vary wildly across the three main Rifts sources (Classic, GMG, Ultimate Edition)... For now I've chosen to just roll what's on my sheet and to put in a full round's worth of actions in order that we might, and I do mean /might/ finish this epic skirmish in less than a couple of weeks. ^_^ (don't get me wrong, it's cool - but if we post action-by-action we're going to be a while... a long while)

If I need to make any changes, don't hesitate to let me know - oh, and could we perhaps have a 'house rules' thread from the GM where we can see them nice n' clear?

Re: OOC

Yeah, I've never done an online fight before.  So I'm open to suggesions.  I had just assumed it would be the same, but I see now that would probably take forever like Silvermask said.  Maybe a house rule could be that the heroes get double damage?  too cheesey?

Re: OOC

This is my first Rpol GM-ing. And I am relatively new to the site. I forgot we all use different systems and whatnot. I don't know what Mithas is talking baout with double damage, I hope he was kidding.

As far as the battle posts go, type 3 or so actions worth of info. Include if possible alternative courses of action should certain ideas not line up.

House Rule thread is a good idea. It will be up soon, and I will make additions to it as I go along.

As far as initiative goes, Lotus technically "cheated" the system. In my groups, the first person attacking does not count as their action, it instead counts as the trigger which makes everyone roll initiative, including that person. So unless the other 6th sense people also decided to attack first without influence from Lotus, she hit a full second before anybody else.

In fact, everyone except for Arven and Tecumseh, would probably waste an action saying "huh" and looking at Lotus to realize what the hell happened, including the Brodkil. And then a second or two later, the field will light up like gasoline...
