Chapter Three : Ghosts in The Forest

(slight back track)

Third platoon assembles outside Hillcrest facing East, towards Chi-Town, towards the front lines, towards this coalition platoon, who are probably just like you guys, who are about to meet their end.

After one of their own died of ... unnatural causes, and after the long debate that followed, dozens of the Cyber Knights in Hillcrest and several soldiers came to the edge of town to meet the group. They apparently needed no explanation about what happened to Mac, they saw the whole thing; and other than a suttle comment that Arven was lucky he did not try to fight Jelme, the Cyber Knights keep quiet about that situation.

They supply Okom, Lotus, Xion, and Saila small vehicles. They are all bloodstained. It is obvious their last owners will not come looking for them.

The Cyber Knights had healers among them. They sought out Raghnall and Fearless, and mended their injuries. It seemed Raghanll was in a light coma, from the blast. His skin is mildly scarred from several burns, and fragment pieces. He is back, and back for his bike. (Mithas you can grab the one I promised you from the cyber knights, it is the same one, only now there is blood on it...)

Fearless was also mended and has returned. He mentions something in Orcish to the group. He may have said hello, or go fuck yourselves...

In any case he aqcuires a hovercycle, and rejoins the team.

Xion directs Raghnall to join Tecumseh's squad, and Fearless to join Silvermasque's squad.

Xion is handed three items by Maddox. One is a magic scroll, he tells Xion it contains a hyper-modification of the spell invisibility: lesser. It works on 5 people at once and is at 15th level power. The second is for him, it is a magic talisman; empowered by the spell Armour of Ithan at 10th level power. The third item is a small slug. It is alive and squirming on Xion's hand. Maddox tells him to put it in his ear, where it will attach itself, and live for the next month. It will enable him to understand all languages magically. Including Orcish. (Fortunately Fearless can understand English, but can't speak it...)

Saila is handed a large techno wizard rifle, and two ancient styled TW pistols.

A man named Hunn has crafted armour for Mithas. Not specifically for Mithas, he makes his living making... giant armour. He has a suit that will fit the minotaur. It is mostly black and red, with golden insignias crafted on the breast plate, and matching helmet. It resembles some ancient ROman Gladiator armour, and is quite impressive. The blacksmith laughs proudly as he hands the armour to Mithas. He acts as though he is a smaller man than Mithas. Not in physical size, but in courage. Hunn is giving Mithas this armour it seems because he is not fighting, but he can at least equip the men who are. Hunn adds in at the end, that the armour is magical. It can cast invincible armour three times per day; at 6th level power. It will also protect the wearer from the undead, in all its' forms.

Third Platoon heads out on their first real assigment. The chance to make a name for themselves is almost within their grasp. Their first battle with real Coalition forces is approaching. They wonder what they fight like... they wonder what third platoon will fight like...

Silvermasque and his squad move up ahead, one mile and spread out. Tecumseh's squad covers the north flank, and Okom's squad is covering the South flank. Xion takes his squad up ahead, leaving Arthur and his squad in the rear; Arthur himself at the back, behind the ATV. (It's up to Van to cover the glitter boys' back, and to jump out and support him, if the group is attacked from behind.

Protect the ATV
Locate and eliminate Coalition forces
Locate and assist Tolkeen squad
Return to Hillcrest, alone. 2nd and 6th are returning to Tolkeen upon completion.

It would seem that 3rd platoon are the only platoon from Pluto Company on the front lines...

Re: Chapter Three : Ghosts in The Forest

Deadbolt moves with his squad towards the front lines.
Good, this is where I should be he thinks to himslef. He gives a quick prayer to Athena and any other god of battle he can think of that he gets to be the first to strike.  With dreams and vision of blood and destruction the Juicer smiles. Still want that nuke "Sigh" O'well, heck he thought he even had a better idea..what about a hand held boom gun, it would be possible. He almost had the stength (25 I have 22).  Mabey he could out a Glitterboys Pilon system in it for thrusters against the actually gun or fuck it,,he could built a stand and get 1 shot before he was shot backwards...Or, what about a chainsaw that used lazer instead of blades..or what about a gun that shot fusion blocks...

All these thoughts go thru the juciers head as he scouts about.

Re: Chapter Three : Ghosts in The Forest

Masque of course accepts Fearless into the fold with a hearty greeting and, since there's two people off on the right flank, keeps him with him on the left - maintaining that same thirty yard pacing between them as they move, each man (or vehicle) a little more than easy conversational distance apart.

What precisely is going through his mind is, of course something of a mystery - and probably best if it remains that way, given some of the things he's said and done already. In any case with one sense or another probing just about every frequency of light or sound, he fondly hopes to be able to see trouble before it sees him...

That is of course unless there's someone out there with good PA sensors... or a Coalition scout unit of some sort... that could be trouble.

And then he speaks into the radio...

"Remember... team has had long day - travelled, fought battle, travelled again - lot of stress and bother... means folk will be tired, notice it or not. Try to stay focussed irrespective, da? - enemy may not be any more awake than we are, but is no reason to let them catch us napping, youbet."

"Right.  Well, lets hope they don't pick up any of our radio communications, they'll think russia is invading with all the talking you do."

Lotus has apparently ignored the dried blood on her hovercycle as she pilots it near Okom and Saila.  SHe also doesn't participate in any of the banter going over the radio and instead focuses her attention on her surroundings.  During the trip, she doesn't speak unless spoken to.

Xion rides along quietly after having spoke with Arven, which apparently went much better than he expected. He too will only speak if spoken to until they get near their coordinates, or he hear from Masque's team.

Re: Chapter Three : Ghosts in The Forest

There's little more than a low chuckle in reply to the soldiers chiding, but it seems that Masque essentially aggrees in principle, since he remains fairly silent from that point on, save to ensure that the two groups (he and Fearless, Sharp & Bolt) remain both alive and more or less in contact with a short question-and-answer every five minutes, whilst every fifteen he reports a status update back to the main body - though remaining conspicuously short on anything that would give their precise location and tending to hustle for a few moments after each transmission.

Re: Chapter Three : Ghosts in The Forest

Mithas is visibly proud of his new suit of armour with a HUGE grin from ear to ear, and several sharp teeth showing through.  He is hot $hit now.  He attaches the vibro-blades to the outside of his armour at his forearms and trades bikes with Raghnall, wiping any blood off that will easily be removed.  He catches up to Xion and looks at him as if to say "see, see my new armour"
