Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Several mercenaries are gathered together in one of the many barracks. They sit and wait for their new assigment. All any of you know is that the group you are being assigned to just finished turning in a captured Emperor Prosek, and they are being hailed as heroes.

Whatever the reason these mercenaries are here for Tolkeen, the tension is building to finally get out to battle, earn this paycheck - and to see what the Coalition is really made up of; and Tolkeen for that matter.

You have been informed that your platoon returned with wounded and are currently getting fixed up, as well as re-supplying. You are all to wait around, until they arrive to collect you.

A select few of regular soldiers are here as well, apparently they will be commanding these mercenaries in the field, alongside Pluto Company.

OOC - The new mercs and soldiers can post here. Nothing to do - but you can start posting nonetheless. This will eventually become the main thread for everyone to post, until the group gets split up - at which point there will be 3 threads.

Revolver sits at one of the tables, loading a revolver slowly to pass the time. He is not overly interested in small talk among the other mercs, he speaks when spoken to but keeps to himself otherwise. He grabs some of the food available and eats it in quiet.

Armored lightly and armed with several pistols and one rifle, Revolver is not an intimidating man, although he is dressed for the job - the true strength is yet to be seen.

A well-built psi-stalker stands at one side of the barracks in story-telling conversation with a power armour jockey. Covered in tatos, and scars this stalker has been around. He could have come from one of the Northern tribes, or perhaps the Pecos Empire, but is most definitely not ex-Coalition.

Also armored lightly, and armed with pistols, a rifle, and melle weapons - he would also be a light warrior. Speaking perfect English, and running off jokes, White Moon has obviously been in civilized company many times before.

Seifer has busied himself with the food table. Overflowing his plate - as he has heard from some of the front line troops, that meals such as this are not as common out there.

Yet another lightly armed merc, he returns to his seat at the same table as Revolver, where he has a large rifle leaning up against the wall. Seifer engages in the dreaded small talk Revolver was trying to avoid, but it is a one sided conversation.

Seifer is an outgoing man, but probably unsure of himself in such a large audience, hence the overuse of small talk - perhaps to calm himself down, and appear normal among all these other... killers...

The power armour jockey stands with his arms folded, leaning against his power armour talking to White Moon. His power armour is a Chromium Guardsman suit - better known as a Glitter Boy. The suit has been redecorated, and any and all visible "Free Quebec" insignias have been tweaked to read "Fuck Free Quebec" of other slurs.

He appears to be a cocky pilot, as many GB pilots are - trained that they are the best of the best - piloting the best of the best. And with the effect Free Quebec has on The Coalition invasion - these egos are only strengthened.

The ogre sits at another table, seperate from Revolver, and Siefer. He sits calmly, in a meditative state - already making it clear to Seifer earlier that he did want to be bothered. His demonic helmet in front of him on the table, the ogre is covered in scars of battle, all over his already - distinguished face.

A calm man, but he likely has another side to him...

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Towering over everyone except Ulik, and then even matching him in height, the Lanotaur was sitting on the table in a corner, picking apart a morsel of food with a sneer on his face. This was no hunt-food, and it was somehow humiliating to eat their gather-food. As if he were some clawless and stub-fanged elder... slowed down to uselessness, who'd not known enough to die on the hunt.

Bah.

War. Necessity was the bitch-mother of humiliation.

He sheared off a chickenleg in his fangs, bone and all, chewing it as he studied the others. He could sense the whiff of magics and psychics with his trained senses. He was drawn occasionally to study White Moon. Psi-stalker. A honorable hunter race, from all of his accounts, although the enemy ones were honorless curs in most cases, and best put down as such.

Tyirrik was silent, and didnt respond to any advances, except to fixate the individual with a scarlet-eyed stare that suggested each time that he was assessing ones quality as prey. Even if it wasnt a conscious choice of his, his gaze inevitably suggested that, as it was ingrained into him on an instinctual level.

He was clad in his armor, but glove-less and helmet-less, the accessories tied to his belt. Aside from his knives, a heavy particle beam cannon was strapped over his back... but he was otherwise unarmed. Seargant Tyirrik definately did not look like the individual who often took prisoners.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Avery lounges nearby, listening to the conversation between Jonas and White Moon with a slight, wry smile upon his face.  The deft application of healing magics has reduced his head injuries to a faint tracery of scarring on the left side of his face, and he appears as ready to go as ever.

He's once again wearing his high-quality Naruni stealth armour, its powered down surface an uninspiring grey colour.  His only weapon currently in evidence -- beyond the ubiquitous vibroknife -- is one of the modern Coalition pistols, looted from a CS infantryman, his heavier weapons currently stored in the small weapons locker in his 'bot.

The Tolkeen regular army Lieutenant keeps an eye and ear selectively on the various mercs in the room, assessing the talent that has offered its services in defense against the Coalition.  Who would prove to be useful and who would just be used up...well, that is yet to be seen.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

The Madness -- the only name he seems to have given -- also emerges from Tolkeen's fine medical facilities generally in good health, though his clothes are a little worse for wear, soot covered and burn-marked; not that he was too stylish a dresser before. He puts his finger through a burn mark in his toque and snears, finding Jonas and White Moon's table for no particular reason.

"Weapons, armor, explosives; covered. My head though! What's to come of that? 70% of my heat, gone! Getting frosty already." he rambles.

As he slides his tray of Tolkeen's dilectables onto the table one can see that he has taken special precaution to ensure none of his food touches the rest of it, with equal-sized square portions of mashed potatoes, corn, carrots, peas, gravy and meat, arranged like that, from light to dark, with little half inch gaps between them. Before beginning he mutters under his breath.

"We'll weather the winter won't we father? Let her do her gathering for us till she falls and we make for the woods, fat enough for hibernation. For now though, sustainenceses..."

Whether this is some prayer or conversation with some invisible third party it's hard to tell. But Madness seems satisfied and begins to consume his food-squares.

Takamatsu lay sprawled out on a bunk staring up at the celing with a dreamy, drug induced look of euphoria on his face. His eye's covered in a pair of reflective shades he seems rather unimpressive for a juicer, until you realize that even in this relaxed state he's completely silent. He is wearing his light spiked samurai style body armor, except for the helmet which is lying beside his bunk next to his weapons. A hefty rifle & pistol lay beside a well maintained vibro-katana and a strange vibro-nail glove. All of which are neatly and meticulously arranged atop his pack where the rest of his gear is stowed.

Avery just shakes his head at the ramblings of the Madness, then raises an eyebrow at Reginald Warburton's query.  Like he's one to talk about appearances.

"This?  Oh, I just got it killing some fucking CS troops," he replies mildly, not bothering to change his lounging position.  "I was part of the extraction team that brought in our VIPOWs earlier,"" he continues, "and Boadie unfortunately drew too much fire in the exchange.  Her portside coolant feed blew out, and I didn't have my helmet on at the time."  He shrugs.

"Had to punch out before she went critical.  Going to miss the old girl, but I have to say," the robot jock adds with a tight grin, "they're not going to find Brun such easy meat."  Clearly, he too relishes the thought of getting back into the field.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

The phrase 'easy meat' seemed to stir the long-limbed Lanotaur from the food, which it seemed to abandon with great relish. Had he time to hunt, Tyirrak would only eat what he himself killed.

"Easy meat isnt worth hunting anyhow. Why hunt if there is no challenge?" he spoke, a sibilant rasp, like someone sheathing a metal file in silk.

He eyed the cocky pilot a bit longer, glancing over once at the strange crazy that muttered to himself.

Humans... so much need for technology. Were it not 'war', he would forgo the entire thing himself and hunt as nature intended. But again... war bred necessity, and necessity bred... phaw... necessity bred a lot of things. She was a easy bitch and wanton with her favor.

OOC: Should mention he has a horror factor (of 12)... but then so do a few others in the room I'm pretty sure.

Sinyard and the other two fresh patients from the medical station had left against thje station's will. They were told to remain, for their wounds to be properly cured and cleaned.

They refused on account of wanting to return to combat hastily. The three of them left to where they had been told the new recruits were gathering.

Sinyard simply ate. He was hungry - and these "army noodles with ketchup" was as good as it was gonna get. He kept quiet, and just ate; taking a seat next to the Madness.

OOC: Horror factor isnt necessarily ugly. Sure, he has a PB of only 7... but its also considered just an intimidation factor.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

A television station in the barracks is playing the Tolkeen sation. As of late it has become a war billboard, displaying updates on the war; including city battles, and their change of control, casualty reports, and known casualties; along with Coalition updates, in their affairs around their borders.

The updates are displayed in several languages as words, and read aloud in English by a female news reporter.

"Just hours ago history was written people of Tolkeen. I am pleased to announce that Tolkeen's dragons engaged a Coalition Air Transport this morning and brought it to the ground. King Creed had been made aware that Emperor Karl Prosek of The Coalition States was likely on board this transport. Tolkeen dispatched a company from Battle Group Odin. The men and women of 3rd Platoon, Pluto Company, outstandingly battled against the odds, and engaged the Coalition full force as the survivors from the crash fought for their lives to defend their leader. Our men secured the Emperor and brought him home. Emperor Karl Prosek is a prisoner of Tolkeen! This is a good day of the war, this could change everything..."

Text scrolls by in several languages:
Hillcrest was lost to the Coalition today. Only 4 survivors... including Captain Maddox

Faust and Hudak were re-captured recently. No word on when reinforcements will be sent.

"Remember, we must stop the Coalition from advancing. Our offensive, which will annihilate their invasion force will come. We must stop them from pushing farther into our land."

A new agreement was made today with Chief Koraga of the Taijuk Simvan tribe. He has pledged full military support to the Kingdom of Tolkeen.

Nearly sixteen thousand mercenaries have been recruited in the last two weeks. They now fight to defend Tolkeen's borders.

"Tolkeen soldiers have been using guerilla tactics effectively to destroy Coalition advancements. Remember to use sabotauge, hit/run tactics, and divide and conquer. Incapacitate the enemy using spells such as Carpet of Adhesion and Magic Net. Capture the enemy, by using sleep and confusing magics. Invoke retreat and then block it off.

Tolkeen offers spells to intelligent students. Magic Net, Carpet of Adhesion, Levitate, Force Bonds, Circle of Flame, Cloud of smoke, Blinding Flash, Charm, Befuddle, Fear, Domination, Trance, Compulsion, Paralysis, Agony, Sickness, Blind, Mute, Wisps of Confusion, Aura of Death, Aura of Doom, Disharmonize, Mental Shock, Speed of The Snail, Sustain.

Tolkeen has come out victorious at The Battle of Morning Glory, and Sectorville. They used smaller units.

The Pecos Empire has successfully conducted dozens of raids on Lonestar and El Dorado Coalition Outposts. Allegedly the Leaders have united under a mercenary company known as the Shadow Warriors. All diplomatic attempts with the Pecos have been unsuccessfull.

"Please do not fear or hesitate to fight alongside underwordly creatures, or the animated corpses of dark mages. These are necessary to defend our home. The Coalition has comitted genocide agaist us, under the Command of General Micander Drogue, and must be stopped. This message will now repeat.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

The night passes as many of Pluto Company simply spend a much needed and deserved sleep in a real bed. Others head out to the bars and tavern to take the load off - and to just be carefree for a night - without having to set up a night watch and worry about being ambushed by The Coalition.

OOC - If there is anything anyone wants to do this night - or even wants to post how much fun they have then go ahead. But we will be fast forwarding to the next day at 0800 hours - assuming everyone shows up, it is now 0800 hours and the meeting can commence. All surviving members of Pluto Company are present. Major Hulan stands in front of the troops, alongside the three Lieutenants.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

The Major steps forward to begin the briefing. She speaks loudly and clearly enough for everyone to hear.

"The first matter is the re-organization of Pluto Company. As most of you know we attacked the crash site yesterday with 137 soldiers, and 34 returned.

She hesitates before going on. The loss of friends and allies can be seen in her expression, yet she maintains a professional aura.

"Tolkeen command could split us up into the other Companies, but they have decided that we have EARNED the PRIVILEGE of staying together. Instead of disbanding - we are being re-enforced. Around you there are several new faces, these are the new members of Pluto Company."

The major pulls out a data pad and presses a few buttons before reading off the new platoon formations.

"First Platoon will serve under me. We are to head north towards Solomon. Apparently Tolkeen needs to defend this shit hole, and the Coalition are trying to secure it for themselves. 1st platoon will be heading away from the rest of the company, as the other three platoons have a mission of their own. The following are to come with me to Solomon : Sgt. Jagathees, Pvt. Deacon, Kamada, Lynx, Scope, Sinyard, Calderonay, Frijio, Revolver and Jin Rauw.

"Second platoon will be commanded by Lieutenant Zephram. 2nd, 3rd and 4th Platoons will be co-ordinating an attack together behind enemy lines. The following are going to serve in Second Platoon under Lt. Zephram: Sgt. Tyirrak, Sgt. Razgriz, Jelme, Sharp The Red, Lady Marlene, Seifer, Jonas, White Moon, Takamatsu, Lord Osema, Gendun, and Reginald.

"Third Platoon will serve under Lt. Xion and will consist of : Sgt. Quinn, Attila, Van, Lotus, Arven, Fearless, Mithas, Mephisto, Silvermasque, and Ulik.

Fourth Platoon will serve under Lieutenant Avery Drake, and will consist of : Sgt. Braga, Cpl Magnet Man (she shudders at the sound of Cpl Magnet Man), PFC Obidiah, Maitlynn The Brave, Calliandra, Harmon, Anniyan, Dalamar, Caramon, The Madness, Klowkuh, and Patulik."

"Now that the rosters are complete, I believe the Lieutenants have something to add... after which you will all learn of your next mission, and then we will be armed by The City of Tolkeen. This means new vehicles and new weapons for free..."

OOC - The full team rosters are viewable in the Pluto Company thread. It is completely up to date, except for Lord Osema's portrait... but it will be up soon.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Tyirrak was already present when Major Hulan and the Lieutenants arrived. When the others filed in, he was still noticeable in the crowd, his head and shoulders higher than even the tallest of the humans. A few others reached his height, like Mithas and Ulik, while others like Arven overtopped even him.

He was perfectly still, except for his tail which lashed silently too and fro like a hunting cats, the hooked bone blade extruding from its tip and from his armor rendering it a hard thing to come close to, hence the small space created around the Lanotaur.

Zephram felt the scarlet eyes of the Lanotaur on him, studying his new commander like he studied everything, a sniff confirming his status as a magic-user to Tyirrik. He made similar gazes and observations about the other mages and psychics out of the room, being able to pick them up like a dog picked up the scent of raw meat. It would be a useful skill for weeding out the Coalition psykers...

Tyirrak waited for the Lieutenants to speak to them, before he went off to find the last bit of gear that might be useful. Sneer as he might, Tyirrak was well versed in the technology that so many of his prey managed to make his hunts (so far back now it seemed) so interesting. Some fusion blocks and demolition equipment would allow even Tyirrik to count coup on great cruisers, destroying transports full of targets all at once.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Lt. Drake looks over his platoon with an appraising eye.  Surprisingly, considering the nature of the opposition, the majority of his unit are human -- or at the very least, have the appearance of one.  The exceptions are, of course, notable, including the two hulking Brodkil.

"I don't think I have to tell you," he begins his address, "that I'm very pleased with performance so far.  Capturing such a critical target, defending and successfully withdrawing against overwhelming odds, you people are a credit to your rank, and well worth your pay.  Those of you who are just now joining our ranks, you'll see all too soon what your fellows are made of.

"We're going to start today,"
he continues, "with a pair of promotions.  Not rewards, but recognition of superior service and capability shown in this conflict against the Coalition aggressors.

"Sergeant Braga, step forward."
The tan-skinned man extracts a small velvet-covered box from the pocket of his BDUs, opening it to reveal a Tolkeen Army non-commissioned officer's insignia.

"Sergeant Braga, you are hereby promoted to the rank of full Sergeant in the Tolkeen Army, with all the responsibilities and privileges thereof."  Affixing the insignia, he salutes the Sergeant and turns his attention onward.

"Private First Class Obidiah Womble, step forward."  Again a small box is retrieved, and again non-commissioned officer insigia is revealed.

"Private Womble, you are hereby promoted to the rank of Corporal, with all the responsibilities and privileges thereof."  Affixing the insignia to the golem's massive chest, he again salutes the new Corporal and sends him back to the ranks.

"As for the mercenaries and militia among you," he says, nodding to the citizens and sellswords, "all who took part in that great battle are being awarded a bonus of ten thousand credits over and above your promised renumeration.  Continue this exceptional service, and additional rewards will be forthcoming."  He gestures for Sergeant Braga to begin distributing the small satchels he'd given to him at the meeting's start.

The pilot draws himself up, his penetrating gaze sweeping his platoon.  "Remember, each and every one of you, that the enemy is out there."  He punctuates himself by pointing unerringly towards the Coalition front.  "Many of us do not agree on the best method to proceed, and some of us have widely differing definitions of acceptable behavior.  We will be fighting the deadboys, we will not be fighting with each other.  Regardless of who begins any altercations in the ranks, there will be repercussions to all involved, up to and including the use of deadly force, if necessary.  This goes for anyone who will not or cannot restrain themselves and save their aggression for the war.  Look among you, at who you are being asked to work with.  If any of you are certain you absolutely cannot work with one of your fellows, I'll see what I can do to get you transferred to another unit.  If that's not possible," he shrugs.

"Well, you can try your best to win clear of the lines before getting caught up in the fighting.  One way or another, though, I will have order in my ranks.  Is that perfectly clear?" he asks in a manner that clearly requires a response.

Also, on top of that, we each need two mercs to volunteer for squad leaders, now mind you, you will only be in charge of the mercs who are all still subject to any Tolkeen officers orders unless otherwise stated. There will be an extra 400 credits a day for this job. Anyone in my platoon interested?" Xion had the look of a proud father on his face, obvious he meant everything he had said about being proud of his men, "We are also going to receive a major re-armament. So Mercs, decide who wants to lead and fill me in." Xion shoots a glare over to the Brodkil, "Keep it down please, this is a relatively important briefing."

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

And at that point, cue the arrival of a couple of tons of B.D.U. dressed tiger, twelve feet tall and uglier than life with a pretty significant stogie clutched defiantly between gleaming silvery teeth. Following his late (and unreported) arrival yesterday he's spent pretty much an entire night having the dents banged out of his chasis and generally being refitted for action - and they've even managed to take the tip to fix the little dancing red glow behind his visor that can't help but put the better educated viewer in mind of a certain cheesy 1980's science fiction spectacular.

His stride is light and jaunty - or as light and jaunty as it can be when you have to turn sideways entering a parking garage, and at Xion's request for volunteers he goes ahead and breaks the cardinal rule of military service by raising his upper-right hand - must be the four hundred credit bonus he's after, to keep him in gun oil.

Y'all should have known that a Coalition army wasn't going to stop the 'Masque (or at least should have known that if they caught him they'd only keep him around for long enough for him to grate on their nerves before throwing him back) - Either way, he cheerfully calls up to Xion with a horrendously accented "Hey Boss... were you missing me?" by way of greeting.

Oh well - he probably deserves at least a few seconds of slack.

Zephram arrives at the debriefing behind all the other officers after holding the door open for them.  Looking inside the chamber from the doorway, Zephram meets the gaze of a few of the less human members of the group.  His mouth hangs agape for a brief moment before he enters fully.  Zephram steps into view while looking at a pamphlet of paper.  From the view of the gathered soldiers, it looks like the I.D. files of the new recruits joining his platoon.  He skims each page while looking back and forth from the soldiers, matching names to faces.
"Here are your bonuses guys" Zephram tosses a collection of credsticks wrapped in an elastic band to Razgriz.  "My squad leaders will be Tyirrak, of course, as well as Osema.  When we need to split up, you two will be responsible for keeping your squad alive while getting the mission done.  Don't make me regret the choices.  I'll assign who's in which squad later on.  When picking up the free gear shortly, I'd like everyone to make sure they are mobile.  If you don't know how to pilot any of the vehicles available, let me know and we'll work something out.  I do not want to see anyone without a ride when we're ready to move out.  As for weapons and other equipment, take only what you need and know how to use.  Pluto Company is not Easy Company - we've ended up with some success in the past and that only means we're going to get tougher assignments in the future.  We watch each other's back and its as simple as that."  Zephram stops talking and adjusts his stance as though he is ready to move on.

Van simply paces around, trying not to seem engaged in the argument, but inside he can't help but think "it's shit like this that makes me wish I could join the Coalition"; at least with them there would be order. Order is nice, or at least it is when you're the smallest fish in a sea of sharks. Fact of the matter is that if Van was bigger he'd be running off his mouth as much as these assholes. But he wasn't, so there was no point talking trash if he couldn't back it up; a vagabond doesn't argue with a dragon.

The other thing that seems somewhat clear from Van's disposition is his frustration with Xion's leadership. Xion was a good man, and Van enjoyed fighting alongside the elven battle mage. But he was no leader. His lack-lustre 'diddo' to Drake's speech left him feeling uninspired. The only thing that gave him the slightest bit of confidence is knowing that his squad was primarily made up of people he'd been with from the start; better the devils you know then the brodkil you don't.

Of course this was all going on inside his head, unnoticed. The only thing he actually did was spit on a wall and mutter "Jesus fucking christ..." as he rubs his forehead.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Listening to all of the insults being shot back and forth, one thing comes to his mind: glad I am not the lieutenant. And I thought I had an ego problem calling myself Magnet Man, mimicking the superheroes of myth and legend. My god, we're playinmg with matches on mountain of gunpowder. As he goes through all of this in his mind, he smirks slightly at the thought of what the company reunions would be like - if they would happen at all.

"This is gonna be a hell of of an assignment," he says under his breath at a volume only those around could hear. He leans back in his chair waiting for the briefing to continue.

She had taken a seat near Arven during the meeting as she wanted to see how he was doing.  She asked to see his new set of chompers, although quickly realized that was a bad idea after being shown the horrendous set of chrome teeth in his mouth.  She makes small talk with him until the officers walk in.  She is a little surprised at receiving a bonus but takes it with a smile.
Lotus is anxious to get out of here though - she doesn't appreciate the smell of some of the nonhumans in here and the close proximity only focuses it further.  When it looks like its time to get moving, Lotus will be one of the first out the door.

The massive golem takes a knee and stretches out his arm offering up a clawed hand that is no longer good for anything except rending the enemy too pieces. So of course he is very careful as he lightly touches Calliandras shoulder. From the look on her face it is obvious to those who have conversed with Obidiah that he is talking to her. No one else is privy to the conversation however.

"I hate meeting new people. Just as soon shoot somebody as shake their hand. Cept you baby.." Arven says smiling until he sees the look on Lotus's face. Augmenting his smile to show no teeth he shrugs his shoulders. "These things are only temporary... well they are permanent but I can always upgrade them later. Besides you know you love me for my personality." Arven notices the Ogre Mystic Knight staring over at him and he sneaks a hand out from under his poncho to flip the guy the bird. When Lotus get up to leave he follows. "Lets blow this taco stand and go get our reward. Fuck 10,000 credits they owe us bigtime and I intend to collect." Arven says confidently. It is anyones guess what the exact nature of the relationship between the 13ft tall Rahu-Man gunslinger and the petite human Mystic Knight may be. What is very apparent is that he is smitten like teenage boy with his first bout of "puppy-love."

Sharp seems very relaxed at the meeting which is odd for the man who is usually rather fidgety. It is likely that he is still heavily medicated from his overnight stint in the infirmary. He gives the juicer a respectful nod from one augmented human to another as he walks up to accept his bonus. Shaking Zephrams hand he leans in whispers something to the commander before returning to his seat.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Before people start leaving, Major Hulan does have something to add. The next mission...

"We have learned some troubling news. There are several high ranking Tolkeen prisoners being transferred from a Coalition Prison Camp to a Concentration camp. This caravan is to depart by tonight at the latest. It is a four hour trip to the concentration camp. It will be 2nd, 3rd, and 4th platoon's duty to attack this caravan, and release all of the prisoners. It has also been brought to our attention that they have three members of Pluto Company in their custody. For some reason the Coalition has a special interest in this company, and have had since before we captured their Emperor. Captain Sorkhan Shira is among them, as well as a Cyber Knight, and a female medic. They have been segregated from the others, and apparently have been subject to torture and interrogation. Your three platoons will be responsible for staging the assault by whatever means deemed necessary. 1st platoon is to head to Solomon, and assist on the towns defense - so we wont be going with you on this one. I wish you all luck, and hope to meet you all again. Any quetions? If not then we are scheduled to report to a mercenary named Zed. Apparently some of you have dealt with him in the past, and at Hillcrest. He will be outfitting us with new weapons and vehicles. And to calm some of the tension - we will be going one platoon at a time. Your platoons are to head out immediately afterwards."

*recently added*

"It is unkown what strength the Coalition presence will be. We do know howerver that the prsioners will be divided between two "Mark V" Armored Personnel Carriers. They will likely be supported by perhaps two platoons of infantry, ranging from heavy to light. There will likely be skelebots, and they will definitely be power armours, both ground and air, and perhaps some heavy vehicles and walkers. In other words prepare for everything - it will likely be hit and run tactics, and for Creeds' sake, watch the damn skies."

After his initial arrival, 'Masque has been fairly quiet - the big mercenary has fought in one capacity or another on three continents alongside some pretty unusual creatures and against some /really/ unusual ones, so briefings with the wild and wonderful world of wierd at his side are nothing new to him.

Come to that, he can live with Xion's uninspired command style - blood and thunder leaders are nice and exciting to listen to, but they have a distressing tendancy to believe their own bullshit, which sometimes leads to them leading a lot less men out of a fight than they led in.

Quietly he takes mental notes whilst waiting for the group to be dismissed.

Callie smiles and hugs the large golem, well one of its arms anyway.  It takes rather larger arms than she possess to hug the entirety of Obidiah anymore.  "You might think so, and maybe you're right, but we all make mistakes and the best we can do is make of them what we can and keep moving on."

"All right, we're almost done here," he says as other platoons start to head off to resupply.  "Harmon, Dalamar, I'd like you two as squad leaders for your fellow mercenaries," he says, singling the pair out.  "If either of you don't think you can do it, let me know before it's an issue."

OOC: Sorry to be slow in this thread. This was the last one I got caught up on and of course it is the one where my character was addressed directly. Figures....
IC:

Harmon is occupied by the mental communication between the big Golem Obidiah and Calliandra when Lt. Drake engages him and the other mage, Dalamar. Harmon appears about to walk towards his two companions when he registers the conversation and stops himself.

He still glances over to the golem and Callie, but he replies evenly to his commander, I don't mind if he picks his own, I'll take the rejects, Harmon says rubbing his tangled beard with a smile.

Whatever, that gives me the taller demon, the Juicer, and the Crazy? Ha! That's a heck of a squad - my kind o' kids.

Harmon hears The Madness' comment. The 'fatty' part does little to disturb him, and he replies with a dry mile, I've reached this ample stature because I make it a point of SURVIVING. Maybe not forever, but at least until the next meal. Harmon rubs his considerable belly.

Don't worry though, if I'm pulling the strings, it means we're already fucked big time.

The Madness leans in and whispers in Harmon's ear:
"I have done nothing but follow orders my whole life..."

A few moments after speaking those words the ever-neutral look on the German's face is replaced by a look of terror - the terror of a familiar pain - as he drops to his knees and shouts "HELP ME!!!" and it is at that moment that everyone feels it...

It's worse for psychics, but even non-psychics can hear the piercing scream that resonates inside their head. The sound hits the brain with such intensity that everyone feels almost like they black out for a second and forget what they were doing. It is almost impossible to tell that The Madness himself isn't actually making a sound, merely sobbing gently for the 10 seconds it lasts (though it seems like it could've been longer).

And then it is over...the mad German remain motionless on the ground for a moment and then all at once collects his breath again. He staggers back to his feet and shakes his head. He looks around the room and then remembers Harmon. "Right. I can take your orders, sir."

The first ringing notes of the psionic scream has Lt. Drake's sidearm clearing leather, the safety off and searching for a target as the mental assault continues.

It doesn't take long, fortunately, for him to realize that the Madness is the source of the problem rather than the victim of it, although as the nigh-maddening sound continues he seems prone to use his rifle after all.

Again, fortunately, the not-quite-assault ceases before he comes to any hasty decisions, and he lowers his weapon once more.

"I hope you can manage better control than that when we're in the field," he says coldly.  "Or you're going to be the happy fellow that gets a lot of us killed."

Dalamar doesn't say anything aloud, but the look on his face indicates that he in unlikely to be so hesitant to defend himself the next time this happens.  Something in his eye even indicates he may not wait for it to happen again...

The entirety of the three platoons assemble at the gates. The three Lieutenants assemble together facing their repaired, and re-armed troops.

It must be decided what routes will be taken to approach the camp. Also as Zephram mentioned - everyone must have a ride, or be able to keep up with the group on their own.

OOC - I will be NPCing Zephram until he gets back - incase his officer-ness is needed before then.

So feel free to plan - and move out. I believe I said it was approximately 0900 hrs, and the caravan is scheduled to leave at 1900 hours approximately. Which means you have the distance, how long before the caravan starts moving, and the locations of the prisons, and the CS troops in the way.

Without further delay - let the ambush begin.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Lt. Drake faces the extradition force from inside his new war machine, the heavily armed Brunhilde, a Triax X-545 Super Hunter from across the ocean.  Custom painted a drab combination of olive greens and slate greys, its colouring will likely leave little to draw the eye when it remains motionless in cover or shadow.  No longer a mere unagmented human in the midst of a wide array of supernatural power, Brun -- although fairly short for a robot vehicle at under twenty feet -- towers well over the majority of the forces arrayed before her.

"Our mission, this day, is of great importance to a small group of people left out in the cold, and possibly even greater importance to our nation and our paymasters."  The great speakers built into the war machine, capable of a booming battlefield shout, hum softly with restrained power as Lt. Drake addresses the assembled platoons.

"Our route is not the most direct, but will avoid the Coalition pickets and get us to our destination well in advance of our target.  We will need to average twenty-five to thirty miles per hour, but I don't want to push us more than fifty to ensure everyone can keep pace.  To that end, we will be heading north-west through the grasslands north of the Mississippi.  The convoy will stay within sight of each other with the exception of any scouting elements deployed.  Troops ready?"

[OOC: If anyone has yet to do so and cares to, a pic of Brun is up in Avery's description.

As well, if I could get a notification from everyone by what method, specifically,  they're travelling, and max sustainable velocity if it's under your own power.  That'll help figure out if we'll need to pick up the pace or change course at any point in order to get into position in time.  That goes for NPCs too, and let me know who's 'carpooling'.]

From within Tolkeen - approximately two dozen humans take to the air, transforming into their true dragon forms in mid-air. Follwed by a small fleet of what look to be giant alien-like-whales with legs, and Techno Wizard appendages. They are called Daemonix - and they are Tolkeen's latest weapon. A race of demons, discovered to be in the midst of an endless slumber, awoken by Tolkeen... liberated by Tolkeen. And all they have to do is help them fight off the Coalition...

The group is then followed by no less than a hundred various TW wing boards, and other TW aircraft; including gargoyles and gargoyle-led chariots.

To the East they fly... obviously something huge is about to happen... but it is not where Pluto is going.

Braga, he relays his orders.  "Sergeant, dispatch a mobile scout a mile up the line of march," he informs his brutish senior NCO.  "As well, detail someone to pull a rearguard, about half a mile back."  There really wasn't enough in the way of forces to put out an adequate scouting ring, but this way they should flush out anyone trying to lie in ambush before them -- or, more likely, whatever the might happen to accidentally run across.

The three platoons have traveled as far as the northern ley line uneventfully - except for Carmon's sighting of a CS fortification in the distance - which is easily avoided... (especially due to the confusion of travel routes...).

The group currently are traveling along that ley line.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

As Pluto Company scrambles into their positions - the Coalition prisoner convoy is fast approaching. The company has plenty of time however to find suitable cover - and even dig elaborate tunnels under the road, and lay a small mine field.

A Coalition soldier can be seen stepping out of the turret-bunker on the bridge, without his helmet. He lights a cigarette and begins to walk slowly and aimlessly but never too far from the bunker.

He looks to the direction of the approaching convoy, just as they come into view. Several members of Pluto Company can see them even before the soldier can.

The APCs cannot be seen as of yet.

A normal sized motorcycle is the first visible, followed by a Triax Power Armour - similar in design to Avery's. , and a giant of a man (At least 12 feet tall) on a large hovercycle, or motorcycle of some sort - with a large cannon protruding from the back - over the pilot's shoulder. Behind the three of them - about 40 feet back are 5 CS troops on hovercycles. Four of which are Dog Boys in full Body Armour, and the 5th a psychic soldier with a spiked helm.

As they come closer - the main convoy is not yet seen...

Brun well behind cover, Lt. Drake watches the convoy's van through his ride's passive sensors.  The little Triax PA could prove troublesome if it managed to close, but fortunately it would never get the chance.  It was highly unlikley that the CS would employ an ogre or some other supernatural creature, so despite the odds against it, that massive man must be some sort of augmented human.  And probably dangerous in close combat, should it come to that.

Regardless, they had to let them go, for now, and hope that anyone the dogs could sense are well out of range, as planned.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

The Coalition scouting party crosses the bridge and passes the ambush point layed down by Pluto Company. All of their eyes study their surroundings carefully. The large mercenary up front on the giant motorcycle holds a radio with one hand. There is no way to tell what was said - or to whom.

As they pass the ambush point by a kilometer or so - the convoy comes into view.

Up front they have six soldiers on hovercycles of some type, followed by a massive, hovering, battle tank. Behind that is an APC... although it would seem the first mistake has been discovered. Tolkeen intellignece offered that both APCs were old Mark 5 models. This one up front was a Mark 7 - much bigger, higher troop capacity, and generally more deadly.

The hovercycle troops are comprised of another dog pack, a psychic officer, and a man without body armour - he is only wearing a clean Coalition uniform with the sleeves rolled up. They are approaching the bridge relatively quickly - the Dog Pack is on the bridge just now.

(OOC - the tank is 40 feet behind the cyclists, and the APC is 20 feet behind
the tank. Directly behind the APC is about 40 jogging skelebots, in two groups of 20 - old and new models combined, folowed by an 8-man Dog Pack, 8 SAMAS - 2 heavy, 6 classic, and behind them are 4 terror trooper PAs, two heavy cyborgs, and two Hellfire Scout Walkers.

And finally behind them is the second APC - a Mark 5 as reported - followed by a spider skull walker, two spider scout walkers, and two Hellraiser giant Power Armours, another 8-man dog pack, and a smaller although seemingly heavier armed battle tank.

Traveling alongside the main convoy - the flanking squads will pose a problem. On 3rd platoons side of the road - 4 light SAMAS are coming - keeping speed with the convoy - and on the other side of the road, a heavy Cyborg, 4 horned-helmeted soldiers, and another human in just a CS uniform... all 6 on hovercycles.

And finally in the distance - no more than a kilometer behind the convoy is another hovercycle squad - likely another dog pack... 6 cycles in total.)

"We need a perimeter set up to watch for possible reinforcements, which means everyone needs to get their ass under some sort of cover in case there's a flyover.  Getting strafed by a SAMAS now would be a pretty stupid way to die.  Don't just assume something's dead because it's not moving, disarm it and stick a blade in it before moving on.  Lieutenant?" he inquires, in case Xion has something further to add.

Silvermasque, with both the heavy grenade launchers that did such spectacular - if only casually aimed - damage slung over his shoulders moves slowly through the edge of the field of battle once he drops off the dead Ulik by the muster point, the only sign of his participation in the battle being the dull cherry-red glow from a cratered hole in the back-left of his armoured torso - and a certain amount of generic shrapnel wounds of course.

He pays particular attention to damaged or destroyed vehicles, apparently intent on winkling out survivors amongst the crews, an action that's usually followed by either the 'zzzzat' of an electrical discharge if they seem feisty or the 'fsssst' of a standard RMK application - dialed up for heavy sedation before he moves enemy survivors to one side, disarmed and unconscious. This includes the floating Cyborg if nothing else is done to him, who'll become the unhappy recipient of multiple electrical shocks until he stops twitching, then get restrained with a few swift passes of a laser welder.

At a guess, advocates of the 'stick a knife in them' policy will get to be the recipients of two tonnes of irritable cybernetic headlock, chain of command be damned.

"Look for survivors, incapacitate them if you are able. Strike them down only if they attempt radio communication or violence against any one of us. We will not be the blood thirsty creatures they hate unless we have to be. Do not hesitate to put the survivors down if they resist forcibly. otherwise take as many alive as you all can. Additionally, may I advise that our fallen be collected and brought with us, as some of our casualties may be recoverable, provided I get a large source of magical energy within the next sixteen hours. I can't heal cut's, but the spark of life can be restored if done within time."

With that, he looked at the squad that he had remaining, consisting largely of the Brodkil, Reginald, Razgriz and Obidiah.

"Retrieve your hovercycles and establish a perimeter to the west, pending further orders." he said to all of them, before excluding Obidiah, who clearly had little to do on a hovercycle, "Obidiah, reconvene with your original unit."

Damned if he wanted the Brodkil picking over the bodies, they were liable to eat any potential sources of intel.

A half-dozen, half-naked but heavily armed female warriors are all facing behind the barge ready for battle. Another 8-10 d-bees are on board as well.

Taking careful aim at the creatures torso sticking out of the center of the barge the Rahu-Man gunslinger unloads one volley after another from one CTT-M20. The other he aims at the barge in general concentrating on the center and near the warrior women leaving only enough time in between each blast so that there is a minimal chance they could all be shot down as a group. In less then fifteen seconds ten volleys of four mini-missiles each are rocketing toward the Splugorth minion. Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

The firepower of Pluto Company was demonstrated well in the ambush of the prison convoy. Sloppy but not too terrible. But its' true demonstration was seen here - laid upon this unlucky Atlantean Slave Barge.

Escaped a battle with the Coalition - then attacked by two mysterious mercenaries; and finally they ride down death road where Pluto Company happens to be...

Ahnaka and Cannon Fodder blast away at the barge. The Slav master is hit several times in the back, he groans in pain but remains facing forwards. Several slaves are hit, and fall from the barge - to lay in the dirt among the fallen CS.

As the Barge turns to avoid the mystical tornado. The barge is hit by an onslaught of fireballs from Attila, and missiles from Arven. Along with gunfire from Sgt. Razgriz, Magnet man, and Reginald.

The front end of the barge explodes, and the slaver is consumed in plasma, and then he is ripped from the barge by unseen beings - his torso is carried up into the sky while his organs are pulled from his open gut - spilling intestines and organs all over the road. The slaver doesnt stop screaming until the very end...

The passengers are thrown from the barge and subsequently cut down by the rapid gunfire. Ahnaka and Cannon Fodder continue to blast until every one of them are dead.

Attila ceases fire with the last of them watching the flaming barge to ensure none return to their feet.

It is at this moment when Magnet Man's captive begins to run away. Disappearing into the near by trees. His skin had returned to flesh... must be why he was able to escape...

Arven immediately sets about reloading the CTT-M20 missile rifle being careful to avoid the business end of the barrels which are glowing hot. He keeps an eye on the two newcomers prepared to draw down on them at the slightest sign of hostility. Hell the big flying freakshow even looks at him funny and he might start shooting. Once the mini-missiles are reloaded and things seem relatively calm the Rahu-Man will limp over to the wreckage of the slave barge and start poking around. At one point he even hauls up one of the dead warrior woman and seems to be stripping her of her clothing and items for whatever perverse reason is anyones guess.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Bringing Brun's weapons back down to standby status, Lt. Drake laid out a few more orders over his war machine's formidable speaker system.

"Corporal Man, take Silvermasque and run down that metal soldier before he finds a way to report our location.  Lieutenant, perhaps you should find out what those two are up to and if they have any intel on CS movement in the area," he suggested to his superior officer.

"Arven, Corporal Womble, sentry duty.  Militiaman Fanel, I want a situation report from the underground action.  Anyone else without an assignment, start prepping transport for immediate departure."

As for himself, he sends Brun pounding heavily over to where Attila stands burning.

"Listen," he says, bringing his massive bot to face the even more massive Juggernaut.  "I do not care that what you're driving is supposed to be the hottest thing ever invented.  If you ever...ever...disobey a direct order again," a great, six-foot vibrating blade popped forth from the Triax bot's forearm to rest against the flaming Juggernaut's neck, "and I will personally carve you out of your iron pot and leave you for the crows.  Are we clear?"  The blade snicked back into place and the irritated Lieutenant moved out to join Xion in the questioning.

It's impossible for a combat robot to frown, but Brun gave it her best shot.

There were several decidedly unnerving things Attila had just said, and the threat of being reported was way at the bottom of the list.  Lt. Drake would have to have words with his superiors on a number of matters, apparently.

Not favouring Attila with any further response, Brun booms over to where Lt. Xion is running his enquiry.

"Let me guess, sir, they've managed to lead a full Coalition legion down on us, right?" Drake commented dryly, looking up to the...thing...then down to the scantily clad female.  Just their luck....

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

During the firefight with the Barge, 'Masque was curiously quiet - though that may well just be down to a sensible desire to avoid overkill (or maybe his attention being entirely focussed in the ground under people's feet), rather he'd dedicated his time to policing the battlefield for the wounded, making sure to get them safely away from the homicidal Rahu-man's guns and up-slope - where he's also able to recover that part of his explosive trapline that wasn't detonated in the ambush.

There's some salvaging of course, but first and foremost it's Our Side, Their Side, Loot.

As a result he's some distance away when the order from Avery comes through and doesn't at first acknowledge, probably being out of earshot (cybernetic hearing being lovely and all, but over the hiss and rattle of cooling metal, whimpers and screams of the wounded and dying, and the general deafness of post-battle, it's not unusual) - but Magnet'll probably pick him up on the way through to hunt down the enemy soldier since it appears to be his mission.

Whatever is said doesn't carry, but when it's time to head out, the large, armoured figure starts to bound towards the back-trail with those accustomed twenty-yard strides of his, one of the two grenade launchers unslung once more and held carbine-style in two arms...

It allows him a clear view of the bridge and the road. Dozens of weapons are gathered - rifles, pistols and grenades mostly. The atlanteans were armed with varied alien weapons from their island. The skelebots are completely destroyed - nothing salvagable is left of any of them.

The rolling thunder, the mountaineer, and the trailblazer are all here now and everybody's hovercycles are near by.

All of the dead Pluto members are loaded first - with all of their equipment. Followed by the Coalition and Atlantis loot.

Arven finds what he is looking for among the bodies.

Mithas charges from the tunnel entrance, and collapses to his hands and knees desperately out of breath, and covered in blood and chunks of flesh.

After him comes a body mystically flying through the air. It blasts out of the tunnel entrance like a dart, then lands softly next to Mithas. It is The Madness is a brutally battered suit of armour. It was a new-ish suit of CS juicer armour - but now is coverd in plasma burns and laser holes - one horn has been melted off. One such hole has burned a golf-ball sized hole through his guts. Madness is bleeding out and will be dead in a matter of minutes.

Van follows the others - he is fine and carrying Braga. Braga is burnt badly and his legs have been blown off. He will likely die before Madness. Van rest him on the ground then sits on his board to catch his breath.

The undead carry all of the salvageable weapons, helmets, armour from the fallen soldiers back to the ATVs. There are over a dozen functioning Northern Gun hovercycles as well.

The prisoners Arven killed on the way over before the Atlanteans came were two of the dog boys near where 4th platoon was at the end of the battle. - for reference.

Since the tornado had dropped, the juicers Razgriz had animated during the battle, and the cyborg they had shot up had landed in the road.

Razgriz and Reginald find the Cyborg begging for mercy. It is now a massive, and battered torso with a large cable, and several other wires in place of legs, and it only has one arm - which it is using to prop itself up off the ground to "beg".

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

As Madness' body is filled with magic energy, pulling together muscle tissue, then repairing burnt flesh, the world around him changes. For as long as he can remember, the sky has been an oppressive force, always speaking to him in the voice of his father, a malicious old gene splicer. That voice was no more. In its place was that of a woman. The things it said were only slightly kinder, but still a marked improvement. The aggressive Madness that the group had seen was pushed back, deep into the realms of his subconscious -- at least for the time being.

With Ahnaka's hands still on him, the two begin to float in the air. After she has finished healing him, he turns to face her. He hugs her like a child holding a toy bear; "Thank you, I owe you my life."

With that he floats up into the air, as if he were a butterfly, and Ahnaka is returned to the ground gingerly.

Or rather, she would have been had she not been borne up by magic of her own.  She arches a fine eyebrow at him, then nods.

"I'll let you know when I'll want to collect on it, then," she replies.

Glancing at the gaping tunnel into the earth, she turns her attention to the scattered...leadership...of this battle-ragged band.

"I assume there is some sort of plan?" she calls out in a clear, challenging voice.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

After no more than a few minutes - and certainly not half long enough for comfort - 'Masque returns at some speed, bounding in long, loping strides that see him clearing the partly barricaded bridge without effort to make his report, and using his heavy-duty speakers to do so - no sense keeping /this/ one quiet.

"We are having six spider-walkers at seven and a half klicks... four of them scouts. We are not having time to be standing around with thumbs in asses, is safe to say they have help on way..."

He slows down to a merely ground-eating pace, coming at last to a stop not far from the gathering squads as he looks about, trying to get a sense of how long it's going to be before the team shake themselves down for movement - and movement at best speed at that, given the likely weight of metal the Coalition will throw at them.

And in the process of course he spots the shambling undead force that's begining to collect around the necromancer, moving at a snails pace (though they're still faster on the ground than Arven - but of course /he/ can always ride something) in the lizard-things wake.

He doesn't even seem to think as a visible shudder rolls through his two-tonne cybernetic frame, and he reaches up over his shoulder for the heavy Wellington arms grenade launcher once more.

Oh yes - he doesn't like the undead, does he?

"Shit... Lotus is still down there." Climbing out from his foxhole he begins limping over in the direction of the tunnel entrance. Stopping suddenly he looks over in the direction of the bridge trying to peer through the smoke. "Shit!" the Rahu-Man says again this time alittle more emphatically and begins his slow loping run towards the underground tunnel.

Arven is confronted by the shadowy form of Dalamar, still concealed by his shadow cloak.  But there is no mistaking the legless corpse wrapped in a blanket and hovering four feet off the ground.  Dalamar has a handful of the blanket, apparently controlling where the body of his brother will float.  He looks up at the tall rahu-man, reading his face.
"What is it?"  The black mage asks, obviously detecting Arven's distress.

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Arven disappears into the tunnel, while Dalamar puts Caramons' body inside the mountaineer, with the other recovered dead. (Maitlyn, Patulik, Quinn, Ulik, Seifer, White Moon. The others : Harmon, Takimatsu, Marlene, Zephram and Jonas have been destroyed - there is nothing worth carrying...

Shortly after Arven and Lotus come charging back up. Lotus returns to her hovercycle, Arven climbs on top of the mountaineer.

A minute or two behind them comes Tyirrak, carrying the body of Sharp The Red over his shoulder - before adding it to the other dead. Followed by Lord Osema, Gendun and Klowkuh - rittled with flesh wounds, their armour is literally hanging off of them. Calliandra is next, carrying the body of a prisoner. Magnet Man follows, levitating a ball of weapons, grenades and ammo in front of him. 15 prisoners burst into freedom outside of the tunnels along with the underground squad.

Of the prisoners, several are healthy and able to pilot some of the Coalition hovercycles left around. Also, some of the dead Pluto Company members, no longer need their hovercycles.

Prisoners - you can choose a TW hovercycle (abilities unknown for now), or one of the norhtern gun-made Coalition hovercycles.

Mephisto calls up to Cannon - "We are leaving this place my friend. come along." The shifter then takes his hovercycle to the front of the pack, ahead of the ATVs.

Pluto Company set out with their rescued prisoners, and the two Atlantean Bounty Hunters that were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Three os the prisoners are recognizable ones to the majority of the company : Capt. Sorkhan Shira, McKnight - the medic, and Tecumseh the Cyber Knight. (formerly of Pluto Company) One of the prisoners is a recognizable Sgt. Jack (formerly of 2nd Platoon) - to the golem-warlock Obidiah. This flee for safety is not the time to catch up however...

The hovercycles take the lead : Lotus, Razgriz, Dalamar, Mephisto, Lord Osema, Reginald, Gendun, Klowkuh, Magnet Man, Mithas, Tyirrak, followed by the Mountaineer, the rolling thunder and the trail blazer.

Arven again, rides on top of the mountaineer (driven by Lt. Xion), Obidiah hangs on to one of the side handles of the trailblazer (piloted by Calliandra). The wounded : Jelme, Braga, Madness, half of the prisoners, are loaded into the back of the rolling thunder, (driven by Van).

Cannon Fodder, Lt. Drake, Attila, and Silvermasque follow behind the ATVs.

The sounds of COalition jet engines can be heard approaching from the opposite direction - as Pluto Company charges towards Tolkeen... the long journey home is still ahead...

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

Jack doesn't stay for the Brodkil "sport", only pausing briefly to wish their deaths on them. He does offer Callie his arm to escort her out of the tunnel, smiling and apologizing, "Sorry about the smell currently. Someone pissed all over me. Are you hurt or anything?" He will make small talk with her to try and keep her mind off her dead compatriots until they are out of the tunnel. "I'm around again now, if you need me, Callie. You have but to ask. Right now, I need to go...what's the word?...ah, yes...requisition me a new vehicle..."

Jack dearly wishes to take his natural form upon leaving the cavern, but doesn't want to be a  big target so in stead he goes over and mounts up on one of the TW hovercycles not currently in use. He looks at his tattered, dirty and stinky armor and sighes. A bath and armor repair and clean will have to wait. He does have an eyebrow raise at the Lotus and Arven reunion, how close they seem to be and thinks to himself, Interesting. Supernatural love. How sweet.

Freed of his restraints and under the open air, Karnon is spitting out vomit onto the ground and tearing at the fur of his face trying to rid himself of more of it. Hardly a dignified look, but at the moment the wolfen couldn't care less.

He snagged himself a energy rifle, checking it only cursorily, before leaping over the back of the closest non Coalition hoverbike, preferring to avoid further symbols of his imprisonment.

He still felt dangerously vulnerable... without his talismans or armor. His spells would be his defense.

Zor takes a seat in the back of the rolling thunder, but before doing so he casts a cleanse spell on himself and the other prisoners. They may be wearing nothing but rags, but they should be clean rags, not filthy ones. He wondered what the status of Mars Company was after the battle at Hillcrest. Did most of them get away before the town was destroyed? If so where was Mars Company operating now?

Taking command of one of the spare hovercycles, in lieu of her own hovercar she is forced to leave behind the line of advancing Coalition troops, the tattooed woman seems willing to throw her lot in with that of the Tolkeen forces -- for now, at least.  To do otherwise would likely prove fatal, so it's hardly a surprise....

Re: Chapter Six : Reinforcements

PM

After a ten second delay, and some squeeling static - a voice responds over the radio : "One step ahead of you Mr. Spock. Just keep haulin' ass - we'll handle the rest."

Pluto races away from the battle scene, dozens of SAMAS coming into view now, and six spider-walker climb over the bridge and crawl over the battle field.

Pluto Company blasts past Saturn Companys' position - at least 150 soldiers - lying in wait for the SAMAS to come within range. Bull Ova, the giant Ape waves as Pluto COmpany leaves them too, behind.

Explosions from their battle can be heard long after Pluto leaves the area...

A grim mood hangs over the survivors of this prisoner rescue. The only talking done is by Xion when he directs the group to change direction to avoid certain terrain.

This mood hangs over, until the towers of Tolkeen are spotted in the distance.

The wounded and dead are dropped off at the military hospital first - where a transport is waiting to receive the prisoners. All of the prisoners are taken into Tolkeen custody except Na-Wa. Nobody knew the psi-stalker would be on the APCs.

The rest of the company heads to their barracks where they are intercepted and debriefed seperately - probably around the rescued prisoners are as well.

Tolkeens' main focus at first is how much they knew about their captured Coalition Emperor. It turned out to be a D-Bee, transformed to look like the man. Originally sent to kill, and replace the emperor - it had been brainwashed and sent back to us...

The mercenaries are payed - and the company is sent to a seperate section of the barracks for a peaceful sleep. Even apart from the gathered new recruits, and 1st Platoon.

Na-Wa, Ahnaka, and Cannon Fodder are offered contracts to serve Tolkeen in the war. (I will let you know the contracts and such)

In the morning the entire company and about half of the prisoners are gathered by a Colonels' tent.

"I am Colonel Hendricks. Tolkeen wants to congratulate Pluto Company and thank you all for your bravery and sacrifice. We understand it could not have been easy to have suffered the losses your company did in capturing this spy. We can not show how grateful we are.

After this meeting the mercenaries are to report to Zed, to receive payment, and supplies. But for now I have some promotions to hand out.

Tyirrak - promoted to 2nd Lieutenant

Magnet Man - promoted to Sergeant

Van - promoted to Corporal

"Of the rescued prisoners, several are soldiers anxious to return to battle.

Three of which served on your company before. Captain Sorkhan Shira, Sarah McKnight : The Medic, and Tecumseh the Cyber Knight.

The others are the two wolfen : Maeth and Karnon. Lieutenat Dyvalis, Major Karno, and Dekker - the smuggler.

Your platoons have been re-organized - please report to your officer before setting out to Zeds' or elsewhere in the kingdom.

Precisely what Xion says to 'Masque to keep him from unloading the remainder of his grenades on the growing undead host and their macabre commander is unknown - the only thing we can be sure of is that there was a lot of urgent whispering involved.

In any case, when the group muster out he pops copies of the various sensor and mission logs to be handed in, keeping the originals of course for later review - since after even a short, but immensely vicious firefight like the one just completed, there are things to learn. Then it's to barracks to drop off the weight of armour (which needs to be fixed), weapons and salvage.

 Busy busy...

Dalamar doesn't leave Caramon's body with anyone else back in Tolkeen. Although his face is as rigid as ever, one can only assume he is in a state of turmoil right now.  Dalamar approaches Tyirrak quickly before he leaves for debriefing.  "Tyirrak, I realize this might not be the best time, but I cannot continue in your service until I have exhausted all efforts to save my brother.  There is a possibility, however remote, that i can find someone here in this city to revive him.  I do not expect this will be an easy task and it may be cost prohibitive.  But I must try.  Until then, I must resign from active duty."
There is almost a hint of desperation in Dalamar's tone.
