Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

Arven layed atop the ATV staring up at the sky on the ride back to Tolkeen marveling at the fact he not only lived through another battle but this time managed to escape without a scratch. Thinking of the amulets inside his bag that he looted from the dead Spulgorth minions he fully intends to keep that particular tradition alive. He laughs aloud but over the roar of all the engines no one can hear the Rahu-Man. He left the Pecos Empire not to fight for Tolkeen but to come and die fighting the Coalition. He never really had anything to live for but himself and even he had grown tired of his own brand of bullshit. But now... well now things are different.

Hopping off the top of the big ATV into the streets of Tolkeen he growls at some gawking kids causing them to run off in fear. Reaching into his satchel he pulls out the sheer stretchy blouse he pulled off of one of the dead Altara women. Tossing it to Lotus he says in a manner that sounds only half-joking, "Here you can wear this on our honeymoon." Without waiting for her sharp retort he adds, "Im going to find your long lost bro and that jackass Mystic Knight buddy of his. If ya wanna go?"

Gathering up the four rifles and the staff he acquired that he did not add to the overall communal loot pile he heads off in search of Zed and his crew. Once he finds him he hands over the two CTT-M20 missile rifles first. "Here ya go jacksack... like I promised. Take these fuckers too. That ought to cover my missile reloads and I need someone to charge these Naruni magazines for me and the mini-cell on my force field." He lays down the two CP-40 particle beam rifles he salvaged as well.

Lotus catches the sheer outfit and holds it up against her battered armour as if to try it on.  "I don't think you could handle it, Arven.  At least not like a gentleman."  Lotus walks off with the rahu man in search of her brother and his crew.

Lotus remains quiet walking up to Zed, letting Arven carry the conversation.  But she does interject when it seems like Arven is about to waste his cash.  "I'll recharge those for you Arven.  No money needed." Lotus waits for Zed to say something.

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

And now it's time once more to play the 'who has what' game, with your favourite host, 'Sergeant Silvermasque the Two-Tonne Boss of You.' (or something like that).

Mostly this consists of him moving from one survivor to the next once the team is back home, holding a personal computer and presenting the impression of a man working a little way beyond his usual educational level as he tabulates credit values, works out repair costs and generally goes about the business of determining group shares after damages.

This includes of course coming up behind Arven at the Quartermasters and battering him on the shoulder in a comeradely fashion... "Here is to be hoping you were not forgetting to be putting thirty million universal credits of big pointy magic stick into group pot for fair division - is being single biggest thing company came away with I am thinking."

---

Now, going back to Chapter 4, Pluto Company we divied to the tune of 141k apiece, including regular army as well as mercenaries.

Basically 'Masque is once again going to get people to put alllll the salvage in a big pile. I mean a /big/ pile - this includes stuff people want to keep as well as stuff people want to sell on. We work out the cash value, then folks get to have their share of that value in stuff or creds, not adjusted by their minimal worth as a Merc (if you have a claim to being 'special' well whoopy-do, by my reckoning the entire party is on about 120-140% share and I can't be arsed to do the math. ^_^ ). If two people want the same item they can either 'bid' for it or toss a coin or something.
If anyone is going to ICly object to the process, then please post doing so.

Please list stuff you've looted here, pm anything you want to try and hide away without admitting to to Moloch, since at the very least the GM needs to know what you've got and this will hopefully be the big 'clearing house' thread for that.

 ---

 Masque's Loot.

This time he came back with little explicitly acquired. Most of the things he wanted were reduced to very, very tiny pieces, but with his unallocated carrying capacity he's bound to have helped out with carrying something back, probably a damaged RPA suit or a big bag of toys.
Mostly his efforts on clean-up duty were confined to grabbing personal computers, RPA black boxes, vehicle recorders and memory cores. Information is ammunition and all that - to be handed over for 'extra credit' to Tolkeen Intelligence.

"That is not quite how thing is working gunslinger. We are agreeing to be sharing our take - everyone paid for what we took away with blood, some more than could be spared." replies the large, armoured 'borg, tapping the computer pad with his clawed thumb, his impassive visor meeting Arven's always-angry glare from not more than a few inches below "And is only fair that everyone shares in reward."

"Is being your call - you are part of team, or you are no-one, and if you are no-one you can start to be walking away. If you want to make self into thief or soldier, is only you who can decide."

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

Zed is found with his crew outside the gates of Tolkeen. His tables, and shelves of weapons and other things-war have grown exponentially. It seems he has started a mercenary company as well and has several rough-looking gunmen and other men-at-arms standing around waiting to speak with him.

Zed seems to be a very busy man currently... his crew are all doing their part by helping Zed to manage his weapons, equipment, and mercenaries - along with Kelthos' magical equipment and Smiths' repairs.

As Lotus and Arven approach Zed notices and quickly finishes dealing with a one-armed greot hunter - selling him a triax rail gun.

"Lotus! You're in one piece! I guess I have spider-man here to thank for that... nah... it's probably the other way around... you probably keep him safe..." - he says with a smirk.

"So Spider Man - you got my gear for me?"

Behind the mercenary trader - Zed, a scrolling-text news report supplies updates and strategies regarding the war.

- Four more Tolkeen towns destroyed by advancing Coalition forces.
- Tolkeen forces recue over a dozen prisoners from the clutches of The Coalition.
- Coalition has increased the use of psychics that interfere with magic. Recent studies have revealed that if the caster focuses his intent and purposely exerts his magic potential - the magic can beat the psionic interference. If you notice your magic is not working properly, try to use more energy than usual.

"Yep." Arven says handing over the two missile rifles he promised Zed. The Rahu-Man does toss the two particle beam cannons and other few small trinkets he picked up into the community pile. The staff and the amulets however he holds on to. Nearly anyone else he would probably gun down or just ignore but he respects Masque enough to at least explain his position. No capitulation just an explanation.

"Im not a thief or a soldier. Im a murderer. Mass muderer as a matter of fact and thats about it. I seen a staff similar to this for sale once in the Colorado Baronies and I know it is worth a shitload. Putting it in a pile to split with all these fuckers just don't add up. That would be like saying we are all equal and I know I am far superior to most of these shitheels. Course that is just my opinion but even if that weren't true putting it in would be saying that their worth in that battle or any other is on par with mine. We all know that ain't true so like I said too bad so fuckin sad pussycat. "

Arven turns preparing to make his way over to deal with Kelthos but turns back to Masque.

"Don't get me wrong I understand your ideology I just think your full of shit and im not playin ball. Im gonna cut you in and Lotus because you deserve it. You wanna disperse that around to the rest of these chuckledicks then it is your call. One thing is for sure and that is I ain't walkin away nowhere. Not until it is time to go and im the one that decides that. Im reliable but my "team" only has a couple players on it."

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

Lt. Drake had spent part of the long trip back to Tolkeen composing a few critical reports regarding the operation.

The first was a charge of insubordination and disobeying a direct order while in combat, to be filed against Private Attila.  He cited situation, orders given, actions taken, and the Private's stated reasoning for failure to comply.

This report was delivered up the chain of command to Lt. Xion once the Company had returned to Tolkeen.

The second report was worded quite carefully, and expressed concern over operatives being sent out into the field with secret orders that could potentially jeopardize the entire operation.

This report was handed directly to the Major, to be dealt with as she saw fit.

An overall battle report was also composed, detailing the plan as it was given and as much of how it unfolded as Drake knew.  This too was passed up the chain of command to Lt. Xion.

Finally, and most covertly, he transcribed his recording of the mission planning and his stated objections onto a disk that he secreted upon his person.

Once back in Tolkeen, he requisitioned a repair crew for poor, battered Brun, intending to return to oversee much of the repairs himself.  Fortunately her damage wasn't too extensive, but several large sections of the armour plating on her chest would need to be replaced before she was whole once more.

When word gets to him of the latest news report, he merely shrugs -- while it will affect those under his command, and thus his deployment of them, this new 'anti-magic' doesn't affect him personally.  There's something to be said for relying upon human ingenuity and technological advancement -- not a sentiment to be voiced too loudly in this camp, however, for such is a strong point of the Coalition's party line....

"As killer, you are maybe one of eight or ten best I have seen. But as soldier you are so-so at best. Too much waving of dick at people and not enough being part of team." replies the big Tiger-borg, standing no more than a couple of feet from oversized 'slinger - making no particular move to start a fight, but obviously as determined as the Rahu-man to see this come out the 'right' way. "Maybe you think my way is chickenshit way, because I only kill fighting enemy and take prisoners, or want to see comrades rewarded equally for risk... But does not matter - is way things are, chickenshit or no."

"Now stick is maybe thirty to forty million in credits - it was taken after battle everyone took part in, with supporting fire or ground assault or magic power. Everyone shares risk, everyone shares reward." - the large 'borg shrugs, a complex motion of his upper body that indicates an essential helplessness before the way of the world. "I guess is your call what to do now, da?"

Then, without missing a beat, Lotus turns to look up at Arven and then the white tiger.  She's still carrying Zephram's staff too.  "Silvermasque, this war is so fucked up we should really be worrying about things bigger than who gets which loot.  Just take what you can get and try to avoid being skull-fucked by a brodkil.  That's my new motto.  Why don't you get your priorities straight and find some bigger fish to fry.  Go exterminate that fuckin monster Osema and then you can talk about Arven's stick."

When Arven makes to walk away and Masque moves to stand in his path the Rahu-Man shakes his head looking genuinelly disapointed. He starts walking backwards taking long strides that no doubt strain his chronic leg injuries. His face belies no pain or emotion however. Shrugging off his pack and dropping the staff into the dirt he says, "Today you get to die for your bullshit beliefs." Continuing to step backwards all four muscular arms unfurl from beneath his serrape and his fingers flex outward stretching as he cracks his neck to the side. At about fifty feet back he stops all four arms out wide. "You want the stick come and get it. But bring the heat with ya cause im takin your life either way."

Or, more accurately - that's what Arven would /like/ to happen...

It's not of course. Silvermasque is many things, but stupid isn't very high on the list - and neither is a murderer. So, neither particularly wanting to kill the big Gunslinger, nor wanting to have himself riddled with energy bolts at fifty paces before he can blink (if he could blink), he instead just takes one giant-sized stride forwards with every gimping step back Arven himself takes, retaining the distance between them at rather less than that of those pulse laser rifles held at arms extension.

"Do not be bloody silly..." he remarks almost good-naturedly, as he turns what ought to be a solemn and serious fight to the death into a very slightly comic spectacle, "I might not want you to marry my sister, but I like you well enough, when you are not being dick." he remarks, making no particular move to relax himself - his entirely mechanical limbs needing no such preparation.

"Is up to Arven here, Lieutenant." replies the cyborg Sergeant, still maintaining his distance from the 'slinger. "Pluto company have always taken salvage and shared equally, regular and mercenary alike. Arven has come away with thirty million credit stick plus maybe other things from Slave Barge, and is not wanting to share, but was happy to take share when was coming from others."

With one relatively 'free' hand, the 'Borg extends towards Avery the personal computer he's been using to tabulate salvage so far on, a list of equipment along with the names of those who have recovered it, with an approximate cash value running alongside "We are just discussing matter now."

Seeing the female mystic knight near Arven he motions for her too, "Masque keep going with the split please. Lt. Drake, we will discuss your reports ASAP."

Once Arven and Lotus are a distance away from Masque Xion hits his radio, "Masque, no contact unless someone tries to kill you for a few moments please." Turning back to face the two mercs with him, "Lotus, you have proven yourself over and again in combat, Arven you as well. I am considerably glad you are on my side of this conflict. But you aren't making friends with the rest of the troops, and I know that isn't your job. But out there we are all each other has, and even if the two of you stuck together, you wouldn't stand a chance out there alone. We all need each other...period, no questions. From the side of the entire confrontation - a loud menacing voice echoes through the market.

"Coalition, Atlantis Splugorth, New German Republic, Free Quebec... wont hurt to add Tolkeen to the list."

Zed is holding a modified CTT-P40 aimed directly at Magnet Mans' head.

"Everybody shut the fuck up. Put your fucking weapons down - and you! - he gestures to Magnet Man by aiming his massive cannon at his face - "Put her down."

"Since you all have decided to do this in front of my fucking shop - I just became your third party mediator. When Arven sells this staff what the fuck do you think he is going to buy with it? A condo over-looking the ocean? He is going to buy more fucking weapons. Think of it as your mobile turret is getting a makeover. Tolkeen has rules set in place - but if their officers had their balls drop yet they would have solved this problem when Arven picked the loot up. Sometimes you have to be rough with your troops Xion or whatever the fuck your name is. I suggest you move either the big pussy" - gesturing to Silvermasque by aiming his cannon at HIS face... - "pun intended, or Arven to a different platoon before they kill each other."

"But here.... now.... at my shop - no way. So all of you shut your traps - buy my shit or get the fuck out of here - you are scaring the customers."

Naturally all of Zeds' crew has taken notice of the situation - including Kelthos The Mystic Knight, among a juicer, a massive Cyborg, a dog boy, several other human gunmen and a cyber knight. All involved in the conflict get the impression that they will just gun everybody down if anything goes sour. Except Lotus - she is pretty sure she will get through this fine.

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

So much to respond to... so many things to deal with... And all this just to see to it that people don't screw with the chain of command and share their take with their fellows.
Well, that's how 'Masque sees it - others might just see it as getting to keep what's theirs.

"Please Lieutenant, Lotus... is no reason to be pulling guns, or encouraging trouble. Is Arven's move." he states amiably enough as people start pulling handguns and generally milling about in an agressive fashion.

Magnet on the other hand, when he turns up is given something of a wry look - insofarasmuch as a visor can be said to have a wry look, whilst one hand comes up to tap silvery vibro-claws lightly upon a battered, shot-scarred marking on one shoulder, "Three stripes are beating two last time I was counting Corporal - even on Mercenary, and you are not 'sir', you are working for living like proper soldier. But you talk good sense." - and indeed, he extends the handset towards Magnet with one massive clawed hand with no real sense of mockery in his words, or any attempt to call the super-powered human on his challenge - not when he's /essentially/ doing the right thing.

That of course is when Zed chips in and adds another level of complex to the situation...

Not seeming dramatically more concerned by the massive particle beam rifle than the four alien lasers hidden up Arven's sleeves - or, if it should come to that than the entire Coalition convoy the company were just in action with (a fine mechanical control over your expression and the keys to your own personal drug supply are lovely that way), 'Masque's attention swings back up to the arms dealer.

"One million on thirty men better than thirty million on one, I am thinking - and is best to deal with before things are being sold and split up and made hard to trace." - another of those big shrugs, four-armed and expressive - "Am sorry though for choice of location - was first chance to speak with Eastwood after battle."

 - All this of course, rather assumes that Arven doesn't draw a gun and start shooting the instant he hits three. If he does, it's probably safe to say that all bets are off on this long, involved interaction.

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

As Arven finishes calling out "TWO" - Lotus' helmet is dropped to the ground, and Arvens' guns are launched from their holsters at Magnet Man stopping in front of him - where they remain hovering..

Magnet Man is obviously responsible, standing with his arms out, and a smirk on his face.

"I have erected several forcefields... this is over for now. From now on loot will be divided by Tolkeen officers. Arven turn in your staff or leave the region. Those are your only two choices now - if you leave, you forfeit all owed money and these fine looking rifles I just acquired. Furthermore if you choose to stay you will be transfered off this platoon to one of the others. May I remind you there are several forcefields in the area so I suggest you make your choice without violence... cuz after all of this bullshit - you are about a second from being put down like a dog.

Braga stands next to Magnet Man with his hands hovering over his holsters. He ran dozens of simulations in his head of gunning the rahu man down... like a dog... disgusting. He may not care for Arven much, but he doesn't really know him. But he sure doesn't deserve to be gunned down without his weapons by the "good guys". What was he doing in this chicken shit army. It should be every man for himself - take whatever you can carry...

It is unfortunate then, that Braga was not as outspoken as some of the other sergeants in this company... as he keeps all of this to himself.

Arvens CTT-M20 missile rifles are jerked from his back to hover around under Magnets Mans power. Turning his attention cocking his head towards the man he hears the threat that he will be "put down like a dog." Arven never really needed much provocation anyway but being called out so obviously makes things that much clearer for him. His counting and posturing is over. Four beams of bright red light reach across the short distance to connect with Magnet Man seemingly coming from Arvens palms. Of course they are from his NE "Hand-Cannons" that popped up into his grip so fast it was nearly imperceptible. Thankfully for Arven high quality arms manufacturers, especially those from alien worlds, see no need to contain such crude components as ferrous or other heavy metals in their weaponry.

Jack, currently in human, walks forward, obviously intent on Lotus, frowning a bit to find her floating. He tilts his head a bit as he listens to some of the things being said and sighs. Momma always told me the military was a bad idea. He paused and smiled. Well, that's not true. Never really knew any parents, but that's what I've heard human soldiers say.

Then he remembers his "mission" and the smile leaves his face, setting into hard stone again. He crosses his arms and looks over the conflict, unconcerned. "Silly, silly peoples. Lotus. I take it you are not floating there of your own free will?" Assuming she confirms that, <Purple>"Can whomever is floating Lotus please set her down so I may speak with her? Thanks. Really."

Arven doesn't even bother to count to 3 before turning and blasting at Magnet Man with his pistols. All 4 blasts crash against an invisible wall just three feet in front of his guns.

Magnet Man keeps his smirk - stretched wide across his face.

The sounds of Tolkeen police on their way can be heard. It is only a matter of moments before Arven is subdued and will spend the rest of the war in a prison cell.

He is left with another choice. To leave, blast the forcefields again, or wait around to be taken into custody.

Lotus shakes her head in the negative in response to Jack's question, indicating that her levitation is entirely not intentional.  Lotus looks at Arven, understanding that a man must do what he feels is right.  From the moment Silvermasque approached Arven with this issue, there was no other path Arven could have taken.
Still floating in mid air, Lotus watches everyone below her, waiting for someone to take a shot at her friend.

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

That's right... it is all, fundamentally, 'Masque's fault. He chose the time, and seemingly he chose the place to approach Arven over the matter of group shares, and it's probably not impossible that he could have worked out how the big 'Slinger would react if he'd stopped to consider that 'Eastwoods sense of right and wrong excludes sharing with his comrades.
That said, it either puts him in the role of an incurable optimist or a machiavellian genius, and whilst it might be possible to mistake 'Masque for many things, a master manipulator of mens minds isn't real high on the list.

Either way, as Arven draws and shoots with blinding speed, sending terrifying amounts of energy downrange to slam into the air in front of Magnet Man, the big Russian 'Borg moves - he doesn't really have any choice. No force-field in the world, perhaps short of those generated by the heaviest Naruni battle-tanks, can survive such a bombardment for long - and there are people in the area who /aren't/ necessarily covered in bonded ceramic armour with servomotor muscles who really can't take too much splashback.

He's wearing heavy powered swords over his back, is armed with terrifying claws and a powerful set of hydraulic jaws. He has handguns and grenade launchers, explosives and probably no end of built-in cybernetic weapons, but all of those share the same problem of being absolutely lethal to unshielded flesh.

Instead he simply gives a cry of "Gas!", opening his jaws as the speaker produces the word and floods the vicinity with a billowing cloud of opaque crowd-control vapour that promptly attacks unshielded mucus membranes and eyes of both natural and supernatural creatures alike, producing considerable (and often debilitating) discomfort... without any actual damage.

 ---

Yes folks, it's your old favourite 'Tear Gas'

It's a 20-25' radius cloud of opaque gas. That means you can't see through it with normal vision - or most other sorts, come to that.

If not wearing EBA or a protective mask, you're -3 Initiative, -10 to strike/parry/dodge and lose an attack a round for 1D6+1 rounds.

If in EBA you're just in a big cloud.

It also affects MD creatures quite happily. There's no saving throw for it.(whereas the knockout drugs on the same device *do* explicitly get a save v non-lethal drugs, there's none for this listed - Moloch's call on whether he wants to add one, 'cause it might just be a typo).

That would be for the higherups to decide once this was done, now it was time for him to act where words had failed him. Rolling away from Masque's gas cloud Xion mutters a few arcane syllables and fires a near invisible net at Arven. Hoping he got the Rahu-Man, Xion turns to Magnet Man, giving him a quick glare, there would be words later...did Avery draw first? More things to think about...not that either was wrong in their actions, but perhaps overstepping their bounds.

As tear gas filled the area - Braga draws his weapons, Attila moves to where Arven WAS standing, while Mephisto, Mithas, Na-Wa, Van, Dekker, McKnight and the two gargoyles just watch the show from the sidelines.

A few moments pass. Magnet Man screams after several "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzwhip" sounds. His screams are silenced instantly however.

After the gas is mostly dissipated, Magnet Man is revealed on the ground. Both of his legs and his left arm have been disintigrated and his 1-armed torso lays bleeding on the ground.

Several Tolkeen soldiers arrive on scene - and before Zed can file his complaint they spot Arven on a rooftop some few hundred feet away. He vanishes from sight yet again - and the Tolkeen police persue.

One human female remains to take a report of the incident - from all parties involved.

Arven The Anihilator is gone... for now...

Sarah McKnight rushes to Magnet Mans' side instantly and does what she can to keep him alive before Tolkeen can take him to a hospital.

A near-by mage arrives out of breath as though he had been racing to the conflict as well. He teleports Mag and himself to a hospital.

With the cloud of gas stubbornly resisting for a few moments, then washing away in the beat of the... Oh shit it's a Dragon's... wings, 'Masque spends the first few fractions of a second assessing the scene before him, energy weapon fire pouring in through a tight hole in space to slam against Magnet's protective shield for a few moments before overwhelming it just as the large 'Borg feared.

He spins swiftly, bringing all four arms up to bear in the murderous giantlike figure upon his distant rooftop, thumb-thick panels in the armoured gauntlets covering his hands snapping open sharply... And remaining silent as the four-armed killer moves on.

"Permission to join 'pursuit?" he asks swiftly and urgent of Xion, one part of his mind scanning the ground for tracks, the other sweeping through the various optic options his augmentations give him, searching far, far above and below the range and sensitivity of a usual multi-optic system for any trace of the 'slinger.

Lotus doesn't bother retorting Zed's remark about Arven being a monster.  She could tell him all about the monstrosities she witnessed today, but griping to him would accomplish little.  Besides, she doesn't actually know her brother that well.  "Thank's Zed.  I'll talk to Smith then."  And so she looks over to Smith and inquires about armour repair.  If necessary, she strips out of her beleaguered suit and hands it over.  She asks about borrowing something to last her until her own is repaired - this town isn't one she trusts well enough to wander around without.  She's only got a pair of spandex shorts and sports bra under the armour.
All the while, she keeps an eye (and an ear) on the events unfolding surrounding the pursuit of Arven.

Arven was a testy sort for the short time he'd know the Rahu Man, but this seemed a bit much even for him, a showdown with a bunch of his platoon mates. He wondered if there was a story behind. Then he realized he didn't really care.

He resumed human form, and followed patiently behind Lotus. When he hear Zed mention Smith for armor repairs, he nodded. His own Mystic Knight armor could use some work as well.

The following morning at 0700 hours Pluto Company is ready to head out to the village of Embradonne (Em-brad-on). They know they will still be connected to Tolkeen quite well, and will not have to worry overly about being cut off. This means supplies and reinforcements should not be a problem.

Major Zor Karno will decide the formation of the platoons - and how they spread out for the trip - which should only take a few hours.

Lieutenant Drake can arrange how this platoon is organized however.

Though not before one last tiny detail is resolved... 'Masque giving Xion a 'just one moment' not and turning to gallop back within moments of the begining of the clean-up to collect four naruni rifles, from where they fell after being used to make a point.

Waste not, want not - as the saying goes.

Minor query following the Bosses edit:

I thought 'Arven had lost his missile rifles and used the Naruni guns 'hidden' in his sleeves to blast Magnet?

Lt. Drake moves out on foot - in his Power Armour, followed by Lt. Xion, Sgt. Magnet Man, Pvt. Karnon, Mithas, Lotus, Mephisto, Dekker, and McKnight on hovercycles.

Cpl. Fanel takes to the skies above followed by his new squadron of seven Flying Iron Juggernauts.

Cpl Womble hangs on to the side of the Trailblazer ATV, piloted by Braga, along with Na Wa at the gun turret. Silvermasque keeps pace along with the others on foot.

Matyss and Nebress fly in an everchanging pattern in and around Fanel and his V formation. (Any would guess the techno wizard is grinning for the clever use of a V).

In having spent all day in lessons and not getting a chance to look over the TW Dynamo Exoskeleton prototype, Van opts for his old gear as he takes to the skies on his wingboard, leading his squad of Juggernauts through the air. He maintains a height of maybe 100ft or about the level of the treetops and keeps pace with his platoon.

OOC - Van will be using his palm computer to take notes along the way and marking things on his map, like for instance, ley lines, mountains, terrain, etc.

Also, for any who remember, Van bought his sentry gun back from Kelthos in Tolkeen, so that will be available for deployment in Mad Town.

Veering slightly out of the line of march, 'Masque tracks along the same vector as Van, though of course a hundred feet below - until he finds a nice, convenient straight stretch where there's a chance of good landings up ahead.

Of course, even the most war-hardened Techno-wizard might be a little startled when a white-furred and 'borg-armoured head rises up alongside him, perhaps a dozen feet to his left, keeping company for a dozen feet or so before dropping out of sight... But it's one way to hold part of a conversation without clogging up the communication channels.

"Hey Corp! - you are being technical, yes?"

Any answer will probably have to take account of the way he then starts to dwindle down to something of a speck a hundred feet below, lands, runs a few paces and then bounds upwards once more with a surprisingly quiet surge of hydraulics and rush of compressed air.

It has to be said that there is no way 'Masque could not be perfectly aware of how bizarre it looks to hold a conversation this way... On the other hand, he must have a fairly well-developed sense of the ridiculous, or he'd probably not have opted for the bionic conversion he did.

"I am having something of idea..."

He states on the next up-swing, two hundred feet and more having gone by at ground level between the leaping impacts of two and a half tonnes of armoured cyborg with the unforgiving ground... They sure do make em' tough in Russia.

And of course, avoiding incoming fire.

Van, having asserted himself on the field, enters the airspace that he is responsible for until further notice with confidence. He wastes little time in issuing orders to his air squadron.

Air Squad Positions (based on the map in Shadow of Evil):

1 Iron Dragonfly 300ft above the foutain in the center of town (#17).
1 Warhawk patroling the north-western skies from the marina (#1) to the clock tower (#16). (200ft altitude)
1 Warhawk patroling the south-eastern skies, from the Lion's Den Arena (#39) to about 50 yards outside the town. (200ft altitude)
1 Wing-Blade stationed 200ft up, near the Junk Yard (#46).
1 Wing-Blade stationed 200ft up, near the Animal Market (#24).
1 Wing-Blade stationed 200ft up, near Boone's Farm (#11).

Other than the Iron Dragonfly in the middle of town, all the Juggernauts are quiet and unimposing. The Dragonfly's engines however send a rumble through the air, announcing its presence.

After giving his orders he meets up with Silvermasque, now that they can talk face to face. He has his palm computer out and he's making notes. "Ok, so what was this idea that you had en route?"

"Is good to now you are having time to be speaking now." the big 'Borg replies with perhaps a slight chill in his voice - after all, Van did basically sod off without so much as a 'later' when they were talking earlier... But that said, the Russian has enough enthusiasm for his idea to carry him over that momentary irritation, and he's soon gesturing energetically and explaining things - which, over the course of several minutes of back and forth, basically boils down to the following:

"Is being idea I was having when seeing Skelebots used by idiots in skull masks, and when I was talking to Naruni shysters with their flying popguns. Someone like myself or maybe power armour troopers could be using couple of halfwit outriders. Simple brain like maybe Northern Gun make, or even chop-shopped Skelebot head, half dozen legs, couple of lasers or missiles or something. We can control with short-range lasercom to give orders, keep on short leash, carry around on back when needed... would not have to be too accurate or clever to add to confusion in scuffle - and most expensive parts, like nuclear generator and the like we can be salvaging from broken enemy toys, da?"

Chop-and-shunt mobile robot sentry guns... Now that could be fun...

Van pays no attention to the tiger's initial coldness, since the obvious cultural differences between people in the group make it impossible to care about who you offend. "Well, I'm not sure where we'd find these 'brains'. I've never tried, but I hear the skelebot brains are impossible to salvage. But I can create the illusion of more troops with some shitty suits of armor and a 'Watchdog' spell that will activate them when troops come into range. It's a similar idea to the drone gun I brought. It's just I'd need to make a targetting computer for them with what we have available here. As for a power source, being on a ley line I can just have them powered by PPE batteries, which'll renew themselves perpetually; something I can do for a lot of our machines."

[OOC] - Once we get settled in I'll ask around and try to find the available supplies to make a targetting computer (I suppose components from motion trackers, cameras, etc. could be used). Ultimately though I'll just need to know from the GM whether or not such materials are available, and then make a bunch of mechanical and electrical engineering rolls. First priority though will be to establish air defenses -- which I'm working on currently.

If we cannot be slapping together basics from salvaged parts." the large 'borg answers, working through the perfectly reasonable objections one by one...  In the absence of clear instructions from Xion, Braga seems to be the next best thing, and that leads to Womble, Matyss and Nebress being waved on over to head off in the general direction of the Bordello, the towering 'Borg, a pair of gargoyles and a tireless elemental construct of metal making for one hell of a field engineering unit.

"Is being my thinking that enemy is having bigger guns than we are having shovels... Simple hole in ground not so great a way to avoid being shot all full of holes, youbet." the Russian explains as he pulls out his portable computer and a small interface jack slides out of his wrist to start producing a display on the screen, "Also, town is being full of flimsy little buildings man could be putting his foot through - is not so good come firefight. So we are maybe looking at lots of little holes, some for little soldiers." - and his silver-clawed thumb jerks at the nearest human-scale infantry - "Some for big." - at that, he indicates Obidiah, the Gargoyles, himself - "And then we see how many we can link up by digging trench, fusing walls with plasma flash and filling back in... If we cut turf first, will be damn' hard to find - youbet. Idea is not to make hole to stay in all through fight, like deathtrap, but to make like old whackamole game, with guns - da?"

Braga, Na-Wa and Dekker enter the Bunker House. It is a large military style bunker that has been converted in to a combination tavern/dance hall and arena. The patrons are rough looking humans and psi-stalkers and several vanuard brawlers. Several mercenaries are grouped at seperate tables around the bar.

Signs for Hamburgers, homestyle pretzels, and popcorn are displayed in several places.

The only ohte rthing of note is the patrons here are here to get drunk. Drunk and stupid.

Lotus stands next to Mithas, waiting for a response from the priest or the others before taking any further action.  She has no doubt that they could force this group from the church.  But she is not so bloodthirsty that violence should be a necessary course of action.

However, if the parishoners do not comply with Mithas, Lotus will take action.  The first step will be a "warning shot" as a searing blast of mystic energy explodes from her eyes to impact the floor behind the priest - far enough away to avoid any injury from debris.  "You will move now, or I'm going to carry you out!"
unless they comply, in which case Lotus will just sure they move quickly.

The priest sees tehir desperation, and stands tall, before replying to Lotus

The doors to the church open again - and the mercenary Photios from 1st platoon, enters to find Mithas and Lotus in a heated discussion with a priest. There are also 6 others present in a circle, and a naked woman who appears asleep on her feet.

Erasmus looks around at the strange ceremony, wondering if he recognizes it as anything related to magic. Though assuming its a purely religious ceremony of some sort, he delays taking his helmet off, instead letting the other Pluto Company members know his name and station. After which he lets them handle things, though he takes a few precautions and casts a spell, summoning a suit of mystical armor completely invisible to those who could not see magic(Armor of Ithan).

Mostly expecting to find a overweight grease-monkey in a soiled undershirt, Van can't help but smile when he sees the attractive lady clerk; something about a woman who knows her way around a garage that makes his still teenage heart jump.

"Hey there," he says in his most casual voice, "I'm with Pluto company. You mighta heard we were coming. I'm the company techno-mage, and I was looking --"

At that moment his radio goes off with 'Masque's big Russian voice: "I guess will have to do in absence of real guns, da? What is being range on weapons package? - could be embarrassing to site heavy weapon and find out it cannot shoot past end of own minefield."

He excuses himself before answering back over the radio. "500ft, but I'm thinking about replacing the firebolt launcher with something with a little more firepower if I have the time. Possibly mini-missiles and a good particle beam or plasma cannon."

Turning back to the receptionist, "Anyways, I was hoping to get the help of your staff and the use of your garage to prepare defenses and equipment for the malitia. With your cooperation we can seriously bulk up defenses on this place."

Lotus' eyes continue to glow with a fiery bluish light as she marches across the stone floor toward the defiant priest.  Her technowizard shotgun is still carried loosely at her side.  At first she looks like she is just going to follow through on her threat to pick-up and carry the priest out of the building.  But at the last second it becomes apparent that she is not going to grab him and instead throws a gauntletted punch into the centre of his face.
Her fist hits its mark perfectly, but anyone with training would note that she held much of her strength back.  As the clergyman undoubtedly stumbles backwards, she steps forward with him.  With her free hand, Lotus grabs at the cloth of the priest's robe in the centre of his chest and places a leg behind his own.  Using her hip for leverage, Lotus slams him onto his ass on the stone floor.  She then swivels around to stand on the opposite side of the priest from the rest of the worshippers, ready for an uprising.

"Are we ready to leave yet, or would you like to go for round two?"

If at any point the priest tries to cast a spell, Lotus will swat him in the mouth with the barrel of her sawed-off shotgun.

He nods politely and heads into the back, making a quick call on his radio along the way. He'll take a look at the place to get an idea of crew and capacity. For instance: how many vehicles could the place hold? do they have top notch equipment? does it look like they do much TW equipment? does the crew look competant? hardworking?

Upon finding the owner he'll ask, "You the owner?" Assuming that answer is 'yes': "I'm Corporal Fanel, of Pluto Company. We're the Tolkeen company sent here to help defend Madtown. I'm going to be in charge of setting up a mechanic team to start arming this place. I wanted to start making some TW equipment and adding upgrades to troop armor, and I was hoping I could count on your help. I was told up front that you weren't going to help me until you were forced to, and it won't be long now until you will be. But I just thought I'd check the place out and see if this would be a team I could rely on."

(I said that of course assuming she has a team. From what I read in the book, it says they do handle TW stuff as well.)

The worshippers jump as Mithas demonstrates his abilities. They quickly grab the naked girl - who is still barely concious - and shuffle out the front door.

The priest slowly stands to his feet, glaring at Lotus. Blood trickles down from his lip as he wipes it with the back of his hand.

The priest looks around at his surroundings, realizing there is little he can do - he begins walking for the door.

"and here I thought Tolkeen would help us... you will get what is coming to you dark knight. You are all going to die here..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Braga and his crew approach the bartender. Braga asks "Are you being the owner of here?". The 'tender responds with a "yeah, who's asking?" "Pluto Company will need to using here for military structure. Was once bunker - will be bunker again. You have two hours to close down and have the people to be leaving." - The 'tender is surprisingly co-operative... and nods. Not that he is happy about the decision... but he is compliant.  'Masque looks away from his work - which is for the moment being performed with a small notebook-style computer rather than a shovel, plotting the best avenues of fire and sight that head towards the town, as well as working out what regions of the ground are best suited to lines of communication and entrenchment - and up at the large Gargoyle, presumably sat nearby since getting the 'setting up' stage right could save plenty of digging later.

That the Gargoyles (and presumably the Golem) largely ignored his little homily on the art and science of digging in seems not to surprise him, but the off-hand question from the nondescript demon-thing does at least get a mostly civil answer...

"Have dug plenty of holes before now, da... to shit in, to hide in, and to bury demonkin invaders in..." he states in a manner almost humble until the last, his upper shoulders shrugging expressively, "Enough to know is art to taking cover when hellstorm of missiles and lasers and railguns is coming."

A moment more, and the brush of a silver-clawed hand through his headfur, and the oversized 'Borg goes on, "But you are having story backwards. The Rodina calls, and men are proud to answer. When mortal strength fails, we take up steel in hand... when steel in hand fails, we take steel into flesh. We do not step back, we do not surrender, we live and die to answer her call." - a second follows, and a dryly mechanical chuckle follows the far more passionately fired words, as though acknowledging that he sounds not unlike a Party broadcast - "And you may feel sorry for them if you wish, but do not turn your back on them... for you would likely not live to turn again." he adds not entirely unkindly.

He nods to the inclination that he is from First platoon, "Yes I am, as for the limitations... each time I activate it, it should allow 10 people through with everything they can carry. Besides myself there are others with experience in dimensional magic, Shifters as we call them, who can also activate the Circle but only for two others and its more taxing then if its creator uses it. It can conceivably used to ferry supplies back and forth though I would be required to hop back and forth with them and it is limited by what people can carry as opposed to weight like a Teleportation spell can accomplish."

Its quite obvious he's spent far too much time locked up with books of magical knowledge and incantation study. The way the spells work is very intuitive and hard to study, but the effects they achieve have been well documented, "A Circle of Travel crafted with my current level of expertise will move 10 people at a time, compared to the 5,000 pounds my Teleport can handle. Though in terms of resources a Teleport Scroll requires about 15 minutes to recover from while within range of a Leyline; if I had two mages to assist in pulling energy from the Leyline we could activate the Circle of travel once every few seconds for as long as was needed."

Humanity is a curious thing - embrace it too tightly and you can only be certain of losing it in a wash of blood that wipes away all rational thought. Spurn it as a weakness and you will find yourself unable to appreciate the strength it can lend to the most innocuous soul. Turn yourself into a big giant metal killing machine to defend it and... well, you start to make speeches.

Through the buzz of static that clutters the mental voice of the great Golem, at least in 'Masque's ears, enough meaning filters for the borg to nod once and raise a hand, "Is perhaps being good time to remember real enemy is not being inside settlement. We do not have to be liking one another to fight side by side, but hating ally is worse than having him as enemy."

'Masque may be about to go on, but as he is about to do so a small and relatively nondescript Psi-Stalker appears at about hip-height, bringing his head around and down to look at the man, visor to eyeball... A moment passes, and a moment more... and then there's a deep chuckle, one lower-left hand like a shovel coming up to very, very lightly (and with plenty of time to be ducked or sidestepped) buffet the newcomers shoulder, "Good! - we are going to be digging in for when enemy comes to shoot guns at us. You are knowing anything about traps and guns?"

Callie raises the arms of her SAMAS up to the helmet and air hisses for a brief second as she releases the seals there.  Her suit would not be operating at anything near its proper level without the helmet, she would be woefully vulnerable should someone decide to act on their feelings and, truth be told, she looked a bit ridiculous with her (now) small-looking head perched between the folded wings and jet intakes of the power armor, but hopefully that concession would earn her treatment approaching the human.

Once the chapel has been relatively cleared, he'll find the basement floor and go about setting up the Circle as he had originally intended before the delightful delay involving the religious folks.

The ritual is quite lengthy and more then a few spells are involved so he'll be occupied for the next few hours with his work.

Na-Wa avoids big white cats flat hand and sniffs the air around the big white cat, it smelled like no animal. But the big white cat did not want to harm Na-Wa, if it wanted to it would have used his big flat hand.

There's no indication that the oversized robot cat minds too badly when Na-Wa ducks aside from his slow swipe, and the big hand just settles down on one hip as the visor that serves the giant in place of normal eyes contemplates the simple stalker.

"Could be being useful Nawa, youbet." he declares, looking up for a moment and then sweeping a different hand through the air, indicating the land outside the city, "We are going to have fascisti - skullheads - coming. They will have guns, many guns." - a sigh, and a shrug follows, as though at the unfairness of life in general - "We will have guns also, not so many. We are needing to make places for us to hide to shoot from, places to make it harder for them to come towards us where we do not want them to come. You are knowing what I mean?"

"You know is funny." 'Masque remarks cheerfully, eyeing (or at least visoring) the two Gargoyles as they crack wise, "I was just thinking we will be having need to find volunteers for all night watches and the digging out of septic tanks."

He huffs on the silvery claws of his upper-left hand, then brushes the knuckles of the same hand across the mercenary-barred set of triple stripes on one shoulder without any particular comment, just removing dust, "Perhaps I should be picking volunteers based on their cleverness, da? - maybe pick those clever enough to unhelpfully flap lizard lips at wrong time?"

A bright and gleaming flash of yet more mounted vibro-weapons set in the hydraulic vice of his jaw follows the last comment, and he chuckles, looking between all four of his companions, from silent mage-'borg to the two nondescript gargoyles, apparently considering them as individual soldiers rather than generic demonkin for the first time "Or perhaps not - what is it you two are doing, Matyss, Nebress? - Are you being gunmen, mages, cooks?"

'Masque chuckles once more, a resonant and not entirely uninfectious sound, "Depends upon who is asking - but Soldier is close enough. Let us say I am someone who shoots big guns, but is clever enough to have foxhole ready for when bad people shoot them back."
That would be as opposed to the average adventurer then.

He indicates the guns, the blades... "Are you having any special skills, heavy weapons, demolitions, combat engineering?" he inquires, since he's having no luck finding out what resources are available for the defence of the city from any of the officers he's tried to contact.

The girl behind the desk replies to Callie : "Some soldiers came here a few minutes ago - check the back..."

She watches Oksana and Calie intently as they walk into the garage area - where they find Corporal Fanel and Private Deacon talking with each other.

In order to walk inside the building, Oksana is forced to retract her wings.  The blade-like feathers seem to telescope into each other, resulting in a dense pair of wings on her back.  Each one still extending a couple feet above her shoulders and behind her.  If her body were not solid metal, she would surely tip over backwards from the weight of the metal wings.  Each of her footsteps clangs heavily on the concrete floor of the garage as she walks up to Fanel and Deacon.
   "Corporal, we're here as ordered..."

Callie parks her PA in a relatively clutter-free space in the shop, stretching the kinks out of her shoulders as she clambers out.  Under Van's direction she applies herself and her not inconsiderable skills to what she does best: building, repairing, and upgrading equipment.

Those who had not worked and fought with her for the last few weeks would think the young woman had no worries at all as she keeps up a upbeat, friendly banter as the work goes on.  Her friends and companions, though, can see that the strain of waiting is taking its toll even on Callie.

After gaining a brief magic lesson from Photios, Lotus heads out to meet up with either Magnet Man or Braga - whomever she can find first.  Her helmet is back in place on her head by the time she steps back out into the street and she marches over to her hovercycle.  Starting it up, she presses the button on her helmet-radio.  "Braga, this is Lotus, what's your twenty?"
As soon as he gives her his location, she'll be on her way there.

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

Rumbling unhappily at the strangely silent Gargoyle duo, 'Masque turns his head (though he hardly needs to really) to see what it is that's exciting them, and seems to sigh even more heavily at the combination of what little of the town centre antics are visible and the snatches of radio chatter he's picking up on his rather more than infantry-issue communications suite...

"I think we are having been forgotten..." he remarks at last, shaking his head at the seeming incompetence of every member of the Tolkeen forces that's achieved a comission, then turning the little computer screen in front of him around to show Obidiah and the two Gargoyles.

On it are several different sketched-out plans for entrenchment and defence of the area, escalating from 'digging holes and waiting' up to 'maginot line' depending upon the amount of mines, automated guns, ferrocrete, labour and time available.
There's much use of lanes of fire, staggered cover, routes of maneuver, terrain alteration... Though there's a big '?' over the 'magical assistance' column he's put off to one side, it simply not being something he's qualified to judge on. "Anyone having ideas?"

The moment of silence stretches out for what seems like a week as the large Tiger-borg looks from Golem to Gargoyle and back again, hoping for some tiny spark of sentience to light their eyes...

...But he seems to be dissapointed, and so simply gestures to them and Na-wa to follow along as he folds the computer back away again, having achieved nothing but theory, received nothing much but silence and gained a new appreciation for just how improbable it is that Tolkeen is going to manage to put up credible defence against the hellstorm that's surely coming.

With further to go than the others, and a variety of speeds to take account of, he's a little later than most to turn up, but not impolitely so.

Hearing the report come over the radio, Callie looks over at her winged compatriot.  "You think they want us to go over there as well?"  Without really waiting for an answer, knowing that Oksana is even newer at this than Callie, she walks over to where she'd parked her SAMAS suit in the workshop and keys the radio.

"Lieutenant Tyirrak, sir, this is Callie.  Sgt Jack asked Oksana and myself to assist 3rd platoon, but they've been asked to meet.  Do you want us to stay here in the workshop, sir, to go with them, or to do something else?"  From her overuse of "sir" and general nervous tone you can tell she's not certain she won't be met with a sarcastic answer.

Before long, the entire platoon is together, standing in front of the church facing the Lieutenants Xion and Drake.

"Sorry to pull you guys off the trench and whatever else you were all doing - but now that the meeting is out, I have a bit more direction with what the fuck we are going to do to make sure the CS doesn't run over us when they get here. This building behind me I understand has been cleared out already by Mithas and Lotus. Our job is to turn it into a battle station. The underground bunker is going to become our hospital. I need a few people to make that change - and I need the rest of us to fix defenses and weapons to the church for the coming battle. You guys aren't a bunch of grunts - so tell me what can you do for me. And remember we are all gonna be here when they get here - so don't hold back... your lives are on the line."

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

'Masque spends a few moments thinking this one through rather than simply speaking out, but when he does it's simple enough and to the point, straight from the mind of someone with more actual 'being shot at for money' time than most...

"Is pretty clear if Coalition is getting line of sight with big guns on town, town is being flat. Could be worse if they are having few big missiles." he begins, setting out the most obvious problem before indicating the settlement, "Even church and few other buildings make better targets than bunkers, unless we are having good magic tricks, youbet."

He lets that sink in for a moment, then half-turns to jerk an upper-right claw-tipped thumb at the land sloping away from the town, "I am thinking we would do better to disperse fire, dig and flash-vitrify trenches for mobility under fire, use revetments and abatis, mines and post-holes to slow down skullheads for us to shoot up, best as we can."

"I can handle plotting bases of fire, traplines, all the rest, and if we can get Firefly squad we can make things plenty hot for unwelcome visitor, but I am knowing less than bupkuss about what magic-boys can do to help us along..."

"To be honest, I've never spent much time preparing for battles - just winning them.  My specialty is taking control of a situation after the shit has already hit the fan.  I can lay some traps and such, or help the Cat-bot dig his trenches.  I would also like a chance to run through some drills - make sure we have fallback cover when we eventually have to retreat to the church.  I'd hate for the boys to be stranded in a foxhole with hot plasma flying overhead."  Lotus' tone is annoyed and sarcastic although all her points sound valid.  It is likely she prefers not to be in charge of planning.

Re: C7 : (3rd Platoon)

Even with his preference for large numbers of small, lightly armoured bunkers over one big, not-very-hard-target, Masque is a good enough military engineer (after his fashion) to work with what the team has rather than what it would like... He skritches momentarily at his hip through the oversized BDU's he tends to wear when not kitted out for all-out war, and hmmmm's resonantly through his voder.

"I guess we could be bracing individual sections of building for compartmentalisation and using deep-piled rubble on lower parts, to be soaking up worst of incoming fire... Upper floors we do not want to be putting anything we would miss in, but maybe rifleman or two, early on... I am guessing is time to be stockpiling sandbags and maybe digging up ferrocreter if we are having access to one?"
