Re: Chapter Eight

Oksana doesn't look up from what she's doing, although a closer inspection would reveal that her eyes are actually closed.  Oksana is still concentrating on repairing Calliandra one blood vessel at a time when she responds to Vashti, also in Elven.
"His name is... Karno.  Call him on the radio."
Oksana has no intention of being rude, but this is actually the most grievous injury she has ever attempted to heal.  It is obvious that she is struggling to maintain concentration.

Re: Chapter Eight

Vashti looks down at the fallen girl and winces.  When he speaks again his voice is a bit softer and he speaks only briefly.  "Thanks, lass, I'll do that."

With those words he moves off again into the town.  As the church shakes from the cross-town explosion, the jeridu soldier brushes some dust from his shoulders and begins to jog towards the rising column of smoke.

Re: Chapter Eight

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The bodies of Wraith and Banshee are set on the teleporting pads to return to Tolkeen.

There was nothing left of Togorhul or McDirth and they are mourned quietly by those closest to them.

Tecumseh is badly injured... but he will live. His face is missing as are his hands... and he will need serious mystical attention if he is to ever fight again. However he has already mentioned to Jelme he doesn't plan on returning to this shit war...

The 2 bodybags and Tecumseh are sent back to Tolkeen via teleportation, and one soldier is sent back. A cyborg named Aristotle, carrying the rank of Sergeant. He quickly makes his way to HQ platoon to speak with the Major.

Re: Chapter Eight

As Tecumseth leave, Van pays his respect. "It was an honour fighting with you. You took your share, but gave twice what you got. It's bullshit that we lost the people we did from in-fighting. It's not right, so I understand why you're leaving. I hope we cross paths again someday." He then heads back to his platoon.

Re: Chapter Eight

Van and the 3 juggernauts from 1st platoon take to the skies to engage the transport as it freefalls, meeting up with Calliandra in the air, and then joined by the juggernauts from 2nd platoon. They relentlessly assault the craft, while Van tries to move in close.

The transport door opens under the craft and dozens upon dozens of SAMAS armours pour out into the sky above Van and his squad. Swarms of the varied SAMAS models burst from the falling transport like hornets from a disturbed nest and immediately attack the small Tolkeen air force. They spread out above the town in squadrons of 8-12 and open fire on available targets in Madtown. At least a hundred made it out before the transport crashes upside down on the damaged radar/clock tower.

Re: Chapter Eight

As beautiful as Van's exoskeleton is, this is a fight best fought in obscurity. Just before he turns invisible to all means of detection other than supernatural, magic or psionic detection, he shouts to his squad of 3 "Alright, stay together guys. Target clusters of them and I'll flank around. Try to take out wings and jets -- just get them out of the air. Remember, you're stronger than they are."

Then he disappears. Although the Juggernauts can still see him fine. He will then go after groups of 4 or more. He sweeps above or below and then hits them from a different side, targetting jets with his Plasma Rifle.

Re: Chapter Eight

A partucarily menacing squadron of twelve SAMs with specially demonic looking helmets, accompanied by a squadron of eight, with blue trimming have chosen the air force as their targets. The Juggernauts are much larger than Callie, or the now invisible Van and are targeted first. But Callie is under heavy rail gun fire a moment later.

Van moves in close to a Death's Head SAM from the blue squadron. Unseen by the others, he bashes off the wings one by one while following behind it as it descends towards the town, completely unable to defend itself.

Ra crashes directly into one of the heavy SAMs of Blue Squadron, slicing the armour limb from limb with its' arsenal of vibro blades. Sekhmet and Set likewise collide with heavy SAMs tearing them to shreds.

Re: Chapter Eight

Callie hung back as the waves of power armor escaped from the transport, somewhat nonplussed by the odds she found herself facing.  She recovered quickly, but not quickly enough to escape the hail of fire directed her way.  With a quick look at the now-filled sky, she turned towards the shattered husks of the buildings in town, looking to lose her attackers within the ruins.  "Sorry, Van," she said over her speakers, unsure whether the young technowizard would even be able to hear her over the din of battle, "I'm too much a target up here."  She trusted her platoon to know that the radar and telemetry she was providing was more important than taking one or two Coalition goons with her, especially since the transport landed smack on top of the old radar tower.

Re: Chapter Eight

"I know..." he says back to her from an unseen location. Only moments later his voice returns, much closer this time. Callie feels the metallic contact at her side and hears in a hushed tone, the mumbling of a couple incantations. "You are invisible, and no tech can see you. Happy hunting, Freckles."

With a quick pat on the ass, the young techno-wizard gets back at it, weaving unseen between SAMAS squads, bringing them down one at a time.

Callie checks her descent once more and jets off at a right angle to her previous path, watching her pursuers closely to see if they're able to pierce Van's concealment, or if they're truly off the scent.

Re: Chapter Eight

Van makes his way to one of the SAMs above first platoon, tearing the wings apart, and wreecking the jets to bring it to the ground, before moving onto the next one. Sekhmet can be seen crashing to the ground in flames into fourht platoons' position. Calliandra lands to rejoin her platoon.

Van can see small squads of CS strike teams moving trough the streets and rubble of Madtown, with several moving towards the theater. 3rd platoon is engaged in gunfire with freshly fortified SAMs and Cyborgs at the norht west side of the crashed transport. 5th has them on the east, and 6th is attacking from the south west. All of the platoons, and the demon horde are engaged with squadrons of SAMs buzzing above Madtown.

Re: Chapter Eight

Van drops another three SAMs while the juggernauts drop a dozen. Both Set and Thoth were destroyed, but Van and the juggernauts continue to fight above Madtown.

On the fourth SAMAS Van latches onto, he comes under heavy rail gun fire from a wing of 3 Heavy SAMs who have no problem shooting up one of their own to get the ghost taking their pilots down.

Re: Chapter Eight

After taking a few rail gun rounds and then losing most of his squad he backs off. "Regroup at the parking structure!" Van shouts as he makes for the structure himself. A stategic retreat seemed the best bet, since Anubis was the only one left in his squad.

Flying in from the side to one of the middle levels, he looks for a spot out of view of the passing SAMs. As Anubis joins him he hands him his Mirror Shield. "Alright Anubis, new plan. Activate Chromatic Protection and take this shield. Activate it and use Targetted Deflection to defend yourself and hit them with their own amunition. I will wait in the wings and pick of the distracted SAMs."

With that he'll get ready shoot and relocate as the SAMs pass by.

Re: Chapter Eight

"Well use Chromatic Protection anyways. A blind SAM is a dead SAM." Van activates a talisman and then changes tactics. His new priority: protect the Juggernauts. Adept with his wing-board, he swings around behind the SAMs going after the Juggernauts in an invisible little bit of dog-fighting. He makes aimed shots at wings and jets, meanwhile keeping an eye out for return fire, ready to send it back where it came from.

If he can buy them some room he will repeat his order. <orange>"Repeat, fall back to the parking structure. We can't hold out much longer in the open."

Re: Chapter Eight

Van is a ghost in teh sky firing at the SAMs jets, and any that can make out where the blasts are coming from can attempt to hit an invisible target, only to have their shots deflected back at them by seemingly nothing...

Some of them do manage to destroy Isis' head and the massive armour freefalls to the ground, bouncing off the transport, then landing on a small squad of CS troops.

A massive shockwave is released from teh transport, and the storms surrounding the town disappear.

Re: Chapter Eight

Callie shot back into the sky once the command group had retreated to the safety of their dimensional pocket.  Secure in the knowledge of her invisibility, she sought height without much concern for her immediate surroundings.  Though she didn't go out of her way more than was necessary to avoid collisions and lines-of-fire, neither did she harass the CS flyers in the air.

The shockwave buffetted her suit through the air, but Callie was able to master the turbulant currents and to right herself before disaster struck.  As she watched the encircling storm fade away, she was struck by a thought that made her blood run cold.  Quickly she scanned the skies, looking for any sight of Corporal Fanel.

Re: Chapter Eight

There are blasts coming from seemingly nowhere, from an easterly direction. Calliandra studies the skies looking for a sign of Van, but can only find SAM after SAM being torn up and crash landing to the ground.

After just a few seconds of Van's radio calls, both Annubis and Ra are destroyed. Ra lands somewhere in the lake, and Annubis lands on Second Platoons' position.

There are 12 SAMs remaining in the air near Van and Calliandra. They regroup, and all realize they are the last twelve SAMs in the air all over Madtown.

Re: Chapter Eight

Having not seen any sign of Calliandra in the past while and with the rest of his squad dead, Van sees the importance of remaining hidden even more now. The skies are almost clear. If he keeps his head, he can finish this.

First, a diversionary tactic. Blinding Flash, targetting each SAMAS one at a time. He throws his rifle over his shoulder and prepares to test out some more of the suits offensive capabilities. He fires a large sphere of energy at the lead SAM, or whoever's on point. It hurls through the air and makes devastating impact. He waits for any retaliatory fire and makes a mental note of which ones saw him and which ones didn't.

"Whew!  Looks like my luck is holding."  Callie had time for that last comment before she unclipped her suit's helmet and adjusted the goggles around her neck to protect her eyes.

With the helmet secured by several tethers to her belt, Callie ceased hovering and sped off in search of a target, trying to find some straggling SAMAS that she could disable.

This final squad of SAMAS make their way towards 4th platoon, arriving in shooting range with ten of them after both Van and Calliandra drop one each. Van's falls with a mangled jet, and Callie's just drops out of the air as his jets shut down.

Cannon Fodder can be seen ready to engage the SAMs along with the rest of 4th platoon on the ground aiming up at the skies.

Re: Chapter Eight

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some distant CS artillery launches again, this time directed at the surrounding perimeter of town completely decimating the demon horde. The incoming CS forces will ride right over Madtown, and the internal forces are regrouping around the transport.

Shortly after the explosions, and the obvious damage to the demon horde, Major Zor Karno comes in over the radio.

"All units, this is Major Karno. We are abandoning Madtown. The town has suffered far too much damage to warrant us dying in this graveyard. Obidiah Womble has given his life to give us some time. Pluto Company, our priority is to get the civilians and wounded to the teleporting pads. None of us leave until they are out of here. Militia of Madtown and Salvation, make your way to the church to assist in escorting the civilians out of here, then get yourselves out. This is not a defeat. Madtown is lost, but we saved most of its' people, Salvation along with it. We have also acquired invaluable information. Officers hold your ground and we will all go home. Karno out.

Every platoon is under attack. Xions' body is one of the first to be sent to Tolkeen, just before the civilians begin crowding around the Teleporting pads. While under constant fire, several civilians are killed by stray fire, but are well protected by the warriors of Pluto Company. Nearly all of the 2000 civilians are evacuated, followed by the militia forces, and finally Pluto Company and the remains of the demon horde.

The ruins of Madtown and several demons stay behind to face the wrath of the Coalition Juggernaut as it finishes off Madtown.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the other side at Tolkeen, thousands of ash and blood covered civilians and soldiers clog the streets. Fresh from the battle field, many are still crying for lost loved ones, others pass out from exhaustion or their injuries. Pluto Company has no time to rest as they are put to work assisting with medical treatment or gathering the refugees, while Major Karno, along with Vashti and Tyirrak make their way to report. Captain Shira is left in command of the company.

Eventually the day comes to an end, and most are able to find enough peace to catch some sleep. Two days without combat gives Pluto time to rest and regain themselves, and adjust to the heavy casualties suffered. The third day is spent on training drills, and rumors that Pluto is getting heavily reinforced back up to full strength.

The information Vashti recovered literally saved thousands of lives, as Tolkeen was able to evacuate several towns in the Madtown region and is publicly recognized as a hero of The Kingdom of Tolkeen. Unfortunately the spirit is lost as Xions' funeral along with the others who gave their lives in Madtown. Most notably Obidiah Womble.

Re: Chapter Eight

Upon the reuniting of Nilus and Payl, they make the decision to move on. Nilus explains he can't stand to lose his last son and his taking them and their robot DeeVee out of Tolkeen. They only make an effort to say good bye to Silvermasque. Nilus offers the big cat a hug, and thanks him repeatedly for saving Payl. He offers Masque a job with him and Payl should he make it out of the war. The three of them take the first commercial transport out of Tolkeen, headed to Lazlo in the morning of the briefing.

The survivors of Pluto Company are gathered in the barracks at Tolkeen. Behind them are about 150 new additions to the company including Iron Juggernauts, mages, demons, D-Bees, mercenaries and power armours.

Cannon Fodder and Payl have made a full recovery and find places near the rest of 4th platoon to listen to the Major's speach.
