Chapter Eight : Madtown Under Siege

The caravan makes its' way past the bodies left over from a battle. A few dozen Tolkeen dead lay scattered about a field with plasma burns and other Coalition trademark chaos. Most of the bodies are partially eaten by whatever scavengers Cannon Fodder had mentioned over the radio. It is a gruesome sight...

Fortunately it was a 60 foot adarok at point, for if it had been others, the scavengers may have attacked instead of flee...

Pluto Company arrives at Mad Town on schedule without any further incident. 4th platoon is spotted in small groups of 3 patrolling the perimiter.

Inside the town Captain Shira is standing among a few other members of 4th Platoon and several otehr well-dressed individuals - likely the leadership of the town - along with a grackle tooth and a handful of gunfighters and other combatants - likely the local law enforcement.

Re: Chapter Eight

After a runner from 4th Platoon leads him to Captain Shira, Zor is prepared to meet the town’s leaders and give them some bad news…

“Mad Town is now under the authority of Tolkeen military, all towns people are to stay within the limits of the observation posts my people are setting up as we speak. Farmers will be allowed to stay on their farms.”

“Anyone caught attempting to leave Madtown without good reason will be detained for the duration of our stay. My troops have orders to protect themselves if attacked or those wo resist being detained, and use deadly force if need be.”

Zor then waited for the ‘ball to drop’, so to speak as he just formally placed Madtown under martial law.

The mayor stands stall with his hands in his pockets. He looks to his companions before responding to the Major "Surely we can discuss these matters in a more private location Major...? Come let us chat at my building."

if all parties are willing Bartaine will lead the officers of Pluto Company to Town Hall for a meeting along with the Sherrif and a few others from Madtown.

The rest of the company is left to map the town, and begin a defense strategy.

Callie lands with barely a wobble, she seems to be getting the hang of her new armor.  It's not, and can't ever be, Bernie but there'd be plenty of time to find a proper replacement for that old light robot once the war was over.  "Besides," she says, not really aware she's speaking out loud, "there should be lots of good CS tech laying around once we kick their tails from here to Chi-Town."

Lord Osema with the rest of the "crew" in tow saunters over towards the church. Spying a smattering of townsfolk huddled together watching the gathering he turns abruptly on them and exposes his battered and swollen genitalia. He makes lewd gestures and comments as they disperse. Stepping up to the front of the church he mimicks the sign of the cross and then urinates all over the front doors.

As Osema passes the townsfolk gathered one group of them, perhaps 20 to 30 of them are obviously hardened, confidant people, armed like soldiers. At their lead is the Sheriff. He stands at eye level to Osema, while chewing on some sort of oversized meat jerky. To the sheriffs' right, stands Lord Renford - now suited up in his Tolkeen-colored suit of Lord Magus Armour. To his left is a muscular mutant cat, likely from the labs of the Coalition. The Cat Woman radiates power and intimidation just in her stance and stare. Definitely an impressive, although small number of militia soldiers.

'Masque is standing off to one side during most of these proceedings, being rather more involved in the smaller briefing of third platoon with Xion and Drake than most, since the oversized cyborg actually has the training and experience to offer opinions and then, if given the nod, to turn some of them into reality.

Since things are more than a little chaotic however, he's happy enough to turn to when the main event begins, sighing a heavy, electronic sigh at the antics of the demon force (and musing idly over how entertaining it would have been to run a few terawatts of electricity through the door at the most inconvenient possible time - which if it had been a Christian church he'd probably have done).

As more people file in, The sheriffs' militia is growing in size. They arrive in small groups, armed and seemingly ready for conflict. The militia has swelled to 50-60 mostly human, but many are greot, D'Norr, grackle teeth and other warrior type d-bees common to the area.

Several Noli Bushmen push their way through the crowd followed by a small army (approximately 40) of large d-bees and psi-stalkers. One of the Noli, an older one steps forward to speak.

Re: Chapter Eight

Oksana arrives alongside Calliandra, landing thirty or so feet away from anyone to avoid hitting innocent bystanders with her wings.  She steps out of the two-inch-deep foot prints she made in the asphalt and walks over to her SAMAS-pilotting friend.  Her intricate wings of metal once again retract themselves to a more manageable size on her back.  The silver-skinned mutant gasps with disgust at the actions of Osema and the other demons and she looks arounnd for any sign that someone is going to do something about it.  Seeing no one lifting a finger, she calms slightly, understanding that this is somehow tolerated behaviour.
"Why oh why do they work with those monsters?!" Oksana whispers to Callie beside her.  "They're worse than the fucking skullheads..."
Oksana doesn't take any action except to sneer in anger and disgust at the demons from a long distance across the gathering in front of the church.  "I've never tested my metal skin against demons before..."
When it is mentioned that Jack is missing, Oksana looks all around the gathered troops as most everyone else would be doing as well.  She doesn't see him anywhere and Oksana starts to get a little anxious.  "What could have happened to him?" Oksana asks aloud.

Lotus was standing around casually at the gathering until Karno mentioned Jack was missing.  It was at this point that she too looked arounnd for him, but only briefly.  Of course she wouldn't see him if no one else could.  But she already had her suspicions.  She maneuvered herself to stand not so far away from Osema and his troupe of hellspawn and in a position to block at least one route of escape from the front of the church.  Lotus already has a hand resting on the hilt of the sword sheathed on her back and another hand on the handle of the techno-wizard flame thrower on her belt.  "If Jack is missing then these demons are the prime suspects.  I request that they be disarmed and taken into custody immediately!!"  Lotus screams loud enough for all to hear, but she holds back any attack, waiting for authorization from a superior.  She is not innsubordinate, although she can be provocative.

Re: Chapter Eight

With slow deliberation the two-tonne mass of 'Masque moves out of his position flanking the crowd, rather pointedly not drawing oversized vibro-blades or grenade launchers as he goes, and without popping the weapon hatches that keep his particle beams or elctro-stun tentacles from being all clogged up with dirt when he dives for cover.

Instead he simply nods to Xion as though for permission and advances on the demonic brood, pausing downwind of them a little to tilt his head and study each in turn, "Is being no cause to be getting excited." he declares, in tones deep and resonant enough to cut through shrieking and shouting, courtesy of one hell of a set of cybernetic speakers, "Let us be seeing if there is scent of blood before we are convening lynch mob, da?" he asks - plainly prepared to do the NCO thing of keeping trouble from exploding out of hand so that the officers don't have to get their hands all grubby, so long as he can do it without exceeding his authority.

 ---

Well, I knew that molecular analyser would be useful for something. I'll fire it up to track for blood traces, starting with human (after all, I don't know Jack wasn't) and widening the search. I figure if they just brutalised someone and didn't bathe properly, I should be able to work it out from a couple of yards away.

Zor then moves on.

“Our overall strategy will be to defend Madtown.”

“Minefields will be placed outside the city proper between the farms, with 3rd, 5th and 6th platoons set up behind them.”

“Platoons will not fall back from a position until I give the go-ahead for either Alpha or Omega platoons to fall back.”

“3rd, 5th and 6th platoons are the Alpha Platoons, and 1st, 2nd and 4th platoons being Omega platoons.”

“When you do fall back half of the platoon is to provide covering fire and engage the enemy, other platoons, the militia, and the flyer squads will also be able to provide covering fire.”

“We will pull back as needed until we either stop the CS attack or they push us back far enough where we evacuate the city altogether, or we are collectively wiped out.”

“That said I have laid out where I want each platoon to set up their primary, secondary, tertiary, and final defenses.”

“If we do have to evacuate the city we will need a number of boats to do so, I am hoping our rather large militia will be able to assist in that matter.”

Oksana's fists were clenched as she watched some of the mercenaries circling the demons.  But she was likewise snapped to attention by the Major's thunderous clap.  She glanced back at the monsters a few times after that, but focused on everything Zor Karno has to say.
"I'm not afraid of those monsters.... ok, maybe I am afraid of them.  But I won't sit around and watch them hurt anyone.  Callie, if you think they're about to gang up on you or something, just give me one little radio broadcast and I'll be there.  God, I just can't even imagine what they would be doing if they weren't occupied by this war..."
When her own name is read and Oksana is referred to as a "private", she furrows her brow.  "I've been asking to be signed up for regular duty, but I didn't think that was going to happen until after the mission - when I got back to Tolkeen.  Does that mean they put it through?" Oksana asks Calliandra as if the PA pilot might have more information than her.  "I'll have to ask someone I guess."

Re: Chapter Eight

Erasmus has been watching the show from atop a nearby stairwell, listening in and slowly rising as the speech comes to an end. Hanging his helmet on his belt, he steps up beside Oksana and Callie. Looking over to them each, "I'll respond to that call as well, if there wasn't a war going on we already would have exterminated them. They'd say the same of us as well, I'm sure."

Giving Oksana a smile, it had been a while since he got to speak with the lovely 'mutant'.

Re: Chapter Eight

"HQ platoon, eh?"  Ramenhotep mutters to himself.  This is an interesting turn of events.  I wonder if they think I need extra supervision or something.  ah well.  Ramenhotep sighs and starts making his way through the crowd of soldiers and mercenaries to stand closer to the Major.  He doesn't pay any attention to the demons - he could really care less about what seems to be a company tradition of in-fighting.
When Zor Karno steps down from his "pedestal", Ramenhotep will approach him with a few questions.
"Commander, sir, a moment of your time?  I just wanted to clarify a few items.  Firstly, I still believe that the best way I can assist the defense of this settlement is to produce my ward magic.  Has this duty changed with my assignment to your platoon?  If not, there are a few things I require.  My wards are very dangerous if the proper controls are not included in their creation.  The wards are capable of being programmed to only attack certain people, certain races, only evil being, etcetera.  They can also be programmed to exclude any of the aforementioned groups.  I would not want to be responsible for creating what amounts to a minefield that resulted in hurting innocent townspeople, or our own troops.  In order to program the wards, I will need either the birth-name of each person who may come into range of a ward, or a sample of their blood.  A single drop is enough to program a single ward not to harm that person.  Would you be able to enforce this?"

"Commander, sir, a moment of your time?  I just wanted to clarify a few items.  Firstly, I still believe that the best way I can assist the defense of this settlement is to produce my ward magic.  Has this duty changed with my assignment to your platoon?"

Zor looks at the Sphinx, and replies to the being "No that duty has not changed, in fact it is why I placed you in the Headquarters platoon, saves me the trouble of seeking you out and vice versa." Zor then continues to listen to what the Sphinx has to say.

Ramenhotep:
"If not, there are a few things I require.

Mars Company had not had a diabolist, thus Zor did not know much about wards, only that they could be very useful. “I will ask if all the beings in this town will donate some of their blood, but if they do not then you are freed from any responsibility of a ward attacking an innocent or an allied combatant.”

Zor then re-addresses all those present. “All those beings who do not want to be attacked by the diabolist’s Wards had either furnish a drop of their blood or their birth name.”

“Those who do not, do so at their own risk, Pluto Company will take no responsibility if you are attacked by a Ward, furthermore do not attack a ward because to do so would be hindering the efforts to defend this town”

Re: Chapter Eight

Mephisto's question seems a legitimate one, and so 'Masque turns slightly to answer it, in a reasonably polite voice, "Is difficult to track, yes... but fresh blood is being pretty distinctive, and I am not detecting it. Old blood, yes, need for bath, yes... But no brutal murder in last half-hour or so."

Then it's Lotus' turn for a wave of one big cybernetic hand and a surprisingly gentle 'shhhh', "I am not liking demonkin any more than you are, but Mephisto was asking fair question. Would be bad to begin defence by shooting up own side, even when own side is having a face for radio, da?"

Then there's Osama, and that should probably be dealt with - he's cheerfully flipped the bird by a lower-left hand as 'Masque studies the subdemon for a few moments, then shakes his head, "Who is needing to touch? - besides, I would not need to replace hands, just disinfect them." he retorts cheerfully, "Still and all, blood there is in plenty but nothing too fresh - I hate to be admitting it, but it does not look like you were doing terrible things to Jack."

And at about that point the crack of thunder rings out, and 'Masque is happy enough to stand and turn at ease, lower thumbs tucked in the belt of his oversized BDU's, upper hands busying themselves producing a cigar which he carefully lights with a sizzle from some indistinct cybernetic gadget on one arm... Half-way through the briefing he emits a low groan and mutters something about preferring to work for a living, but on the other hand his pay scale just went up a notch, and what's not to love about that?

Afterwards of course, it's time to break down and meet the troops, 'fodder receiving a polite nod and a chuckled, "Is good to be having someone on team big enough to take cover behind... But you are going to be one stone-cold bitch to dig foxhole for." the 'borg replies with a wry slap of one fur-masque'd hand on the upper part of the leviathan's leg before 'Masque gestures the indicated members of his platoon in close - including the markedly nondescript members of Firefly squad.

"This is going to be tough fight - when Coalition comes they are likely to come hard, youbet. So we are going to be applying infantryman's best friend after his rifle, the shovel. The more we dig, the less we bleed. Firefly, we are needing plots for minefields and killing zones, both remote and command-detonated - we can be starting with this." - 'Masque produces the small pocket-computer he was working with outside of town and offers the screen to the demolition experts - "Otherwise we are going to be doing lot of work... There are good tricks using energy weapons to flash-vitrify earth into temporary trenches and tunnels, and we will be cutting back woods to provide both killing fields and overhead cover on bunkers - will not stop railgun slug, but will force shooting through concealment and every little helps."

"Once we have worked out fortifications, we can work out two to three person fireteams, matched for size and speed, then assign firing points and evacuation routes back to second and third line. Finally we will need GTH plan for when devils grandmother sets up shop in our command structure... Just for reference, I am not knowing most of you from hole in ground - so would be good if we were spending hour or two together somewhere quiet before we start to get to know one another... Anyone have problems with this?"

Oksana smiled back at Photios, genuinely pleased to see him again.  She was still concerned about her sudden induction into Tolkeen service.  Oksana wondered how her change in pay would be handled - but only for a moment.  She was more happy to finally be a part of something.  She felt herself beginning to feel better than she had in a long time.  It was like she only just realized her life until now had been meaningless.  Oksana could now claim to be fighting for a something more important than herself.

"Photios, what do you know about these demons?  The brodkil?  I mean, are they all like this?  Are they all evil - no exceptions?"

Re: Chapter Eight

"I plan on creating a basic network of wards to strategically protect the town first.  This should include only a few dozen of my mystic symbols.  When finished, I will revisit each area and increase the number of wards until the enemy arrives.  This way, there will be no weak point if we are attacked early.  Ultimately, there could be a few hundred wards, depending upon how much time we have.  However, not all of them will require the blood of our warriors.  I will need to completely restrict all access to certain areas of the town where the wards will be concentrated.  I will then create corridors of relatively safe passage.  It is within these corridors that I will need to exclude our fighters from the influence of my magic.  As mentioned previously, this can be done in more ways than just by their blood.  For starters, I can exclude all members of non-coalition species from the effect.  As an example, if I program my wards not to harm brodkil, grackle tooth, elves, and gargoyles, then none of those races will need to provide me with blood or their true names.  The only beings who need to be concerned are our human, psi-stalker, and dog boy population.  I can't very well exclude them by their race if I want to harm the enemy.  So, any members of those races who wish to avoid injury from my magic should either submit to me a small supply of their blood, or their true name.  In regards to the blood donors needing rest, I am certain that a quick visit to a psychic healer would have them revivified in no time.  A single pint should suffice from each one."

OOC - At the blood clinic, a pint is the standard amount to donate for most people who give blood in real life.

Lotus' concentration was not broken by Zor's thunderclap, but rather by her own desire to comply with military order.  Her hands slowly released her weapons and her stare slowly moved from the brodkil to the platoon commander on the church steps.  Her fists were clenched and she was breathing heavily, but she had it under control.  She knew she had to find Jack.

When the speech was complete and the troops appeared to be dragging their heels by mingling about instead of getting into the assigned groups, Lotus walked her way over to her new lieutenant.  The tiger borg was one of the few others present who had been a part of Pluto company since the beginning.  He wasn't even a citizen of Tolkeen, but he sure talked like one.  Lotus had a lot of respect for the borg and his work ethic, although he did seem a bit squeamish when it came to dealing with the supernatural horrors of this war.

"Lieutenant Silvermasque, I'd like to request permission to join the investigation into Jack's disappearance.  I'd also like to make use of our fellow platoon member Na-Wa in this capacity.  Neither one of us are well suited to the heavy digging you have planned, or the explosives set-up.  Would you please speak to the Major on my bahalf?"  Lotus wasn't normally so polite to anyone.  But sometimes there was a need to play the game, so she decided to coalesce.

There's squeamish and there's squeamish... Truth be told, 'Masque would be perfectly happy to line up every supernatural freak in the world against the wall and shoot them to a man, the bad and the good alike, if he thought it would protect  Matushka for a single day... There's a distinct grimace on 'Masque's features as Mephisto explains his part in the war to come, but the large 'borg overcomes visible reluctance to nod in approval, "I do not have to be liking it to be knowing it will be lot of use." he answers the Shifter, "I do not know what you can be calling, but if they are being able to use guns and fight from cover, it will be helping to split enemy fire."

Andy receives a nod as well in due course, "I am being frankly concerned about Fodder being big damn' target... it is depending on whether he can shoot straight if we will be putting him in forward defence position or sitting him on second or third line with big crate of missiles and letting him play skittles with enemy tanks." - he looks up at 'Fodder, grinning more widely, "You are saying this only because you are never swinging Thunderstorm cannon around... But for you what is heavy weapon is whole lot heavier than for rest of us, and that is all to the bad for the bad guys, Khorosh? - But this is only good if you are having training to be firing such things in roughly right direction."

Then it's back around to Lotus as her helmet goes back on, and she receives a thoughtful glance, "Just be little patient for moment Lotus, and brainstorm with rest of us as we plan out defences."

Photios grins and laughs, "Ahh... I suppose that is quite snobbish of me to say, perhaps I should explain in detail some spells you may find useful. Let me see... Illusory Terrain is handy, with my current ability I can cover nearly a quarter mile diameter for two and a half hours with an illusion of any terrain imaginable; as the name suggests. All of the scents, sounds, and sights appropriate will remain but such things as pits, mounds, hills, and anything else within the hologram will be hidden."

He lets that sink in, "Perhaps a fog, I could sheathe a 5 mile area in fog to obscure all vision past ten feet and maintain it for five hours at a time. This might just encourage carpet bombing or enable the Coalition Thermal Imaging, but even they their range would be limited. Perhaps our troops are more adept in close range? Or maybe simply useful for an evacuation? On that note, I've already established a Circle of Travel in the basement of the Church so I can move out about ten people at a time teleporting directly to Tolkeen where the adjoined circle is."

Stopping then, he suddenly realizes he's been rambling, "Forgive me... you asked for an advisory on Magic, I can continue on large scale effects or go silent should you find such talk boorish."

A modified SAMAS suit (Private Calliandra O'hare from HQ platoon) can be seen flying behind Oksana and second platoons' Juggernauts. All five soldiers have left the town and are on route to get closer to the incoming.

Three people on TW boards are seen in the air above 3rd platoon.

Calliandra leads the Juggernauts Ra, Sekhmet and Thoth directly towards the first wave of missiles. From 2500 feet away her suit is able to deflect all but four of the medium missiles. 14 of the medium missiles begin to stray off course, one of them crashes into the groind directly, half of them will miss the town completely.

Two large missiles (one was from thh second wave) have been descending and are on their way for the town. The second and now third waves of medium are now on their way as well. Callie has to choose quickly to either go for the second wave or the large missiles.

As many as 4 stray medium missiles are about to crash randomly in the town, and the first of three long range missiles is now just moments away from crashing in first platoons' area or defense.

There is a massive explosion in the cockpit of the aircraft. SOme sort of explosives have been detonated, blowing out the windshield and almost definitely killing everyone inside. The bomber immediately begins to descend, and just a few seconds later six heavily modified SAMAS knock-offs pour out the back, engaging their jets and coming around to engage Callie and the three juggernauts.

(Callie, roll initiative please).

There are still 2 waves of approximately 20 medium missiles on their way and a total of three long range missiles, one of which is moments from impact.

"Oh, thank god for that." Callie murmurs at the explosion.  Looking towards the oncoming SAMAS she feels a chill run down her spine, but does her best to ignore it.  Callie attempts to drop back just a bit behind the juggernauts; she's skilled in PA combat to be sure, but her suit's abilities are better used to disrupt the enemy rather than to face them directly.  She attempts to get a fix on the frequency the oncoming SAMAS are using and to jam it while making evasive maneuvers in the air.

Re: Chapter Eight

Two missiles fire up into the sky, launched from Lieutenant Pierces' Chromium Guardsman. They travel straight up before splitting apart and each crashing into a seperate stray missile.

Van and his squad of Juggernauts take down the long range missile with their own missiles and well placed magical walls...

Two stray missiles find their way to Madtown. The bomber continues its' descent to the ground. Another forty missiles are on their way towards Calliandra and her squad of Juggernauts.

Calliandra and the juggernauts speed towards the next volley of missiles. Again almost all of them are redirected and begin to split off in other directions. Some hurl towards the ground, some are on their way to crash randomly within the borders of Madtown.

The second long range missile is headed right for Van and his squadron in the north east section of the town.

The remaining four medium missiles from the second volley are about to collide with Callie and her squad... two of them crash into an invisible wall and the other two explode on one of the wingblade's (Sekhmet or Thoth) chests sending it hurling towards the ground out of control.

The third wave of medium missiles, and a third long range missile are on their way in, right in front of the six SAMAS knock offs - who open fire with a steady stream of rail gun fire at Callie and her remaining squad.

The bomber continues to descend towards the ground - there is a chance it could crash into the town... or perhaps one of the surrounding farms.

Callie, Ra and Thoth continue their charge directly towards the opposing SAMAS. Led by a modified Quebec-made Violator SAMAS, and followed by five Bandito-made Sidewinder SAMAS.

Callie fires her rifle at the lead V-SAM, Ra launches small balls of ice at the far left SW-SAM and prepares to engage the PA in melee combat with its' glistening blades covering Ra's body. Thoth launches a volley of six mini missiles at the SW-SAM on the far right. Sekhmet regains himself and begins his charge from under the attacking power armours. Oksana has little, if any effect on the doomed course of the burning bomber.

The lead V-SAM fires a volley of sixteen missiles back at Thoth, while firing his laser rifle at Oksana's wings. The five SW-SAMS all fire volleys of four mini missiles, and continue to spray Callie, Thoth and Ra with rail gun rounds.

The power armours continue to close up their distance... just a few hundred feet now. The third wave of medium missiles are jammed except for four that make it through and are about to collide with Ra and Thoth, two into each. Another twenty mini missiles have been fored by the SW-SAMs, a total of eight (two volleys) are headed for Callie, eight for Thoth, and four for Ra.

When the chromium angel reappears, it is in the air to the left of the Violator SAMAS with her left clawed hand gripping the barrel of her foe's laser rifle.  She will use her wings to fight against any attempt the pilot makes to steer them in any direction.  She doesn't care where they go, but if the pilot pulls right, she'll pull left, if he pulls up, she'll pull down.  Oksana's right arm ripples and liquifies before quickly reforming into something resembling the blade of a broadsword.  She will proceed to thrust the blade into the face of the SAMAS repeatedly until he either releases his laser rifle and pulls away from her, or she digs a hole in the helmet and the pilot is dead.

about half the missiles lose their targets and fly past Callie and her squad of juggernauts, landing on the ground away from any parts of Madtown. Ra and Thoth are each hit by two medium missiles and then another 4 mini hit Thoth, and two hit Ra. Both Ra and Thoth maintain their courses towards the enemy power armours, ignoring the missiles exploding on them, although they are visibly damaged by the attacks.

Callie and the other two are still sprayed with rail gun rounds, until Callie descends, releasing several chaff flares along the way - exploding into small clouds of smoke and particles in her trail. She is still hit with one mini missiles before she meets up with Sekhmet on his charge from beneath the SAMAS.

Oksana appears in front of the Quebec-made SAMAS holding onto the rifle in his hand used on her just moments before, when she was still riding the bomber into the ground. A long vibro blade extends from the suitss' left hand and begins defending against her slashes to his helmet. Then she falls vivtim to several slashes from his wing-vibro blades to her face, making it almost impossible to see.

Sekhmet flies directly into one of the sidewinder SAMAS, sending them both into a violent spin away from the others' formation. Sekhmet slices the armour limb from limb with its' aresenal of vibro blades.

The Sidewinder SAMAS hit and knocked slightly off course by Thoth's missiles is hit with another volley of six. One of its' jets is caved in and bellowing black smoke - the pilot and suit are heading for a collision with the ground. The pilot is not doing much to resist, he is either unconcious or already dead inside.

The one to its' side is hit from a bolt of lightning also fired by Thoth as Thoth crosses the massive vibro blades on his arms. As they are about collide in mid air Thoth maneuvres while hitting him twice with his electrically-charged blades, decapitating another SAMAS, as it too speeds towards the earth.

Ra collides with another, exactly as Sehmet did to his target. They veer off in a violent spin as the suit is dismembered limb from limb.

Callie flies directly behind another of the SAMAS, removing her helmet and not firing her weapon. Suddenly the SAMAS she strafes by, loses control of his main jet. He follows the others downwards now.

The violator SAMAS and the last remaining sidewinder SAMAS continue ahead towards the town.

just two medium missiles make it near the town from the second volley from the bomber. They are both shot down by Lieutenant Drano Pierces' mini missile launcher.

The bladed wings slash across Oksana's face and mar the perfect chrome skin.  A thin laceration is opened across her cheek and nose more like a long scratch on a shiny new car than a very damaging cut.  Relatively speaking, Oksana's metal flesh is barely scarred by the assault, and it only serves to strengthen her resolve.  She attempts to stab at her foe's helmet again...

Teltales moving from yellow to red, Calliandra speeds after the most dangerous threat she can see, the V-SAM.  At these speeds and altitude her eyes are nearly frozen shut with tears forced out by the wind, so she's relying only on sensor input from her suit.  Luckily, the Wild Weasel SAMAS is possessed of an excellent sensor suite, still one can see by how Callie stops zig-zagging so much that she's reduced a bit.

"Come on, come on baby.  One more and we'll get you down safely..." she chants, as if trying to keep the suit aloft through sheer good will.  Still the young soldier does not fire her weapons, simply flies towards the V-SAM, closer than seems wise at these speeds.

Re: Chapter Eight

Oksana and the Violator SAMAS continue to exhange blows to the head before Calliandra passes them both by. The grappling pair both begin to lose altitude as the main jet of the SAMAS turn off much like the Sidewinder she had passed a few seconds earlier.

The Violator continues to pummel Oksana in the face with his wng blades and parry her attacks with his left-hand vibro blade. He also continues to fire his payload of mini-missiles at the Juggernauts.

The last reamining Sidewinder opens fire on Callie as she passes the others, with another steady stream of rail gun rounds and a volley of four mini missiles.

Ra, Sekhmet and Thoth form up and make their way for the last Sidewinder. Blasting it with orbs of ice, until Sekhmet collides with it, mauling it just like the others.

The bomber finally crashes into the graveyard, of Madtown. The graves are destroyed, coffins and dirt are blasted into the air, laying a carpet of soil and coffin/tombstone/decrepid body parts over 100 foot area of the graveyard. The cockpit is still on fire, and there is no visible sign of survivors. The falling power armours and there pieces left over from teh two wingblade juggernauts land scattered over the area under the air battle. There is little chance any of them could survive.

Oksana will teleport just before the Violator SAMAS' wingblade slashes at her again.  She vanishes and the blade slices nothing but air.  Oksana reappears a hundred feet or so away, behind the opponent and she watches him descend for a few seconds before looking for another target.  Spotting Calliandra flying with no helmet, Oksana becomes concerned.  She will teleport again, this time appearing right behind her airborne companion, Oksana's hands clamping on to the shoulders of Calliandra's suit.  Oksana's head is beside Calliandra's and the chrome face shouts into her ear over the blaring noise of the wind rushing by.
"Nice trick with the armour back there.  Yours looks pretty damaged though.  Care for a quick ride back to base?"

Already, Oksana's metal wings stretch out to either side, ready to act like a shield against any assault that may come their way, even if all the enemies appear to be beaten for the moment.

Calliandra says nothing in response to the metalic elf's comments.  Her face is pale, even more so than usual.  Her powered armor, as well, is silent.  The roar of the jets, so loud just a few seconds ago have sputtered off and are silent.  The only sound is that of the wind rushing by as the suit begins to plummet, and a very faint noise from the suit's speakers.  "So tired..."

Re: Chapter Eight

Oksana will definitely catch enough air in her wings to slow the descent and gain control of the SAMAS' flight.  Then she'll teleport them both back to Madtown, right inside the church and lay Calliandra down on the stone floor.   First thing to do is stop any bleeding that Oksana can't see inside the armour, so she attempts a psionic healing touch.  With Calliandra's head exposed, Oksana will kneel down above her as she lies motionless.  She places Calliandra's head in her lap and then places a hand on either cheek while falling into a trance.  Oksana's wings extend around either side of them, almost like a protective barrier, but she uses them to reflect light from the windows onto Calliandra's body.  As each "feather" of her wings is like its own little mirror, each wing projects a thousand little spots of light. This almost seems to make the injured pilot glow.  Oksana's meditation lasts two minutes and at the end of which, results in repairing some of Calliandra's wounds - at least enough to stave off death for long enough to perform more permanent healing.

Oksana's arms both transform into various different shapes such as hooks, blades, and spikes as she proceeds to pry open Calliandra's armour.  Oksana's arms seem to liquify and flow into the hole left by a rail gun round and they reform into pry bars to literally peel the plating away from the pilot's body.  When she is freed and the injuries more apparent, Oksana will dive into another trance and begin to bring Calliandra back from the brink of death.

Oksana may already have closed some of the wounds with her healing touch, but what she is doing now allows her to see right inside the flesh of whomever she aims to help.  Oksana is still kneeling under Calliandra's head, her arms reformed into metal hands both of which are touching Callie's cheeks.  After just over a minute of focus and meditation, Oksana is imbued with the knowledge of what must be done.  Her focus is not broken as she now prepares to actually perform psychic surgery.  She lets her mind go as instinct takes over and hidden knowledge comes to the surface.  It takes nine minutes before she knows she is ready, but when she is, Oksana moves as if she were being controlled by invisible hands.  She keeps her eyes closed, but her hands move like she can see everything.  She combines her psionic abilities with her metamorphic power to alter the shape of her hands and arms, each one transforming into something more like metal tentacles.  Oksana is able to plunge them through the skin of Calliandra where they seek out and grasp the rail gun rounds that found their way inside her.

It will take a substantial amount of time, but eventually, combining instinctive surgical techniques with additional applications of healing touch, Oksana should be able to restore Calliandra to health.

OOC - the actual surgery time, I'm not sure about, but the book says it is half that of conventional means.  So, if it would normally take a couple hours...

Vashti waits until there seems to be a pause in the young woman's work, taking the time to study her more closely.  The "armor" is not, as he had first assumed, a separate suit, rather some effect, be it magical or simply her natural form, has covered her in metal.  Too, the shape of her ears suggests elven heritage.  So it is, then, that when Oksana pauses Vashti speaks in Elven, "Your pardon, young lady, do you know where I might find the commander of the Tolkeen forces here in town?"

Tecumseh is badly injured... but he will live. His face is missing as are his hands... and he will need serious mystical attention if he is to ever fight again. However he has already mentioned to Jelme he doesn't plan on returning to this shit war...

The 2 bodybags and Tecumseh are sent back to Tolkeen via teleportation, and one soldier is sent back. A cyborg named Aristotle, carrying the rank of Sergeant. He quickly makes his way to HQ platoon to speak with the Major.

Van and the 3 juggernauts from 1st platoon take to the skies to engage the transport as it freefalls, meeting up with Calliandra in the air, and then joined by the juggernauts from 2nd platoon. They relentlessly assault the craft, while Van tries to move in close.

The transport door opens under the craft and dozens upon dozens of SAMAS armours pour out into the sky above Van and his squad. Swarms of the varied SAMAS models burst from the falling transport like hornets from a disturbed nest and immediately attack the small Tolkeen air force. They spread out above the town in squadrons of 8-12 and open fire on available targets in Madtown. At least a hundred made it out before the transport crashes upside down on the damaged radar/clock tower.

As beautiful as Van's exoskeleton is, this is a fight best fought in obscurity. Just before he turns invisible to all means of detection other than supernatural, magic or psionic detection, he shouts to his squad of 3 "Alright, stay together guys. Target clusters of them and I'll flank around. Try to take out wings and jets -- just get them out of the air. Remember, you're stronger than they are."

Then he disappears. Although the Juggernauts can still see him fine. He will then go after groups of 4 or more. He sweeps above or below and then hits them from a different side, targetting jets with his Plasma Rifle.

A partucarily menacing squadron of twelve SAMs with specially demonic looking helmets, accompanied by a squadron of eight, with blue trimming have chosen the air force as their targets. Van moves in close to a Death's Head SAM from the blue squadron. Unseen by the others, he bashes off the wings one by one while following behind it as it descends towards the town, completely unable to defend itself.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some distant CS artillery launches again, this time directed at the surrounding perimeter of town completely decimating the demon horde. The incoming CS forces will ride right over Madtown, and the internal forces are regrouping around the transport.

Shortly after the explosions, and the obvious damage to the demon horde, Major Zor Karno comes in over the radio.

"All units, this is Major Karno. We are abandoning Madtown. The town has suffered far too much damage to warrant us dying in this graveyard. Obidiah Womble has given his life to give us some time. Pluto Company, our priority is to get the civilians and wounded to the teleporting pads. None of us leave until they are out of here. Militia of Madtown and Salvation, make your way to the church to assist in escorting the civilians out of here, then get yourselves out. This is not a defeat. Madtown is lost, but we saved most of its' people, Salvation along with it. We have also acquired invaluable information. Officers hold your ground and we will all go home. Karno out.

Every platoon is under attack. Xions' body is one of the first to be sent to Tolkeen, just before the civilians begin crowding around the Teleporting pads. While under constant fire, several civilians are killed by stray fire, but are well protected by the warriors of Pluto Company. Nearly all of the 2000 civilians are evacuated, followed by the militia forces, and finally Pluto Company and the remains of the demon horde.

The ruins of Madtown and several demons stay behind to face the wrath of the Coalition Juggernaut as it finishes off Madtown.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the other side at Tolkeen, thousands of ash and blood covered civilians and soldiers clog the streets. Fresh from the battle field, many are still crying for lost loved ones, others pass out from exhaustion or their injuries. Pluto Company has no time to rest as they are put to work assisting with medical treatment or gathering the refugees, while Major Karno, along with Vashti and Tyirrak make their way to report. Captain Shira is left in command of the company.

Eventually the day comes to an end, and most are able to find enough peace to catch some sleep. Two days without combat gives Pluto time to rest and regain themselves, and adjust to the heavy casualties suffered. The third day is spent on training drills, and rumors that Pluto is getting heavily reinforced back up to full strength.

The information Vashti recovered literally saved thousands of lives, as Tolkeen was able to evacuate several towns in the Madtown region and is publicly recognized as a hero of The Kingdom of Tolkeen. Unfortunately the spirit is lost as Xions' funeral along with the others who gave their lives in Madtown. Most notably Obidiah Womble.
