Re: Chapter Eight

Zor was glad that the militia had grown in size; unfortunately he knew that many of them would be dead by the end of the upcoming battle. Additionally he wasn’t glad that Jack was missing and that in usual fashion it was causing a rift in the company.

Zor then lightly claps his hands which results in all those present to hear a loud CRACK of thunder.

Once he has everyone’s attention Zor begins. "ALL of you be quiet!"

"We're not here to witness any petty bickering simply because one member of the company is not present."

"I’ve decided to reform Pluto Company in the following manner; some of you are being promoted, others may feel like they are being demoted. Save your complaints until after this meeting is adjourned."

Zor then reads off the new platoon assignments.

Re: Chapter Eight

After reading off all those names Zor continues “For those of you concerned about the disappearance of Jack know full well that I will have Lieutenant Dyvalis conduct an investigation, if he asks you questions regarding Jack be truthful in your replies.”

Zor then moves on.

“Our overall strategy will be to defend Madtown.”

“Minefields will be placed outside the city proper between the farms, with 3rd, 5th and 6th platoons set up behind them.”

“Platoons will not fall back from a position until I give the go-ahead for either Alpha or Omega platoons to fall back.”

“3rd, 5th and 6th platoons are the Alpha Platoons, and 1st, 2nd and 4th platoons being Omega platoons.”

“When you do fall back half of the platoon is to provide covering fire and engage the enemy, other platoons, the militia, and the flyer squads will also be able to provide covering fire.”

“We will pull back as needed until we either stop the CS attack or they push us back far enough where we evacuate the city altogether, or we are collectively wiped out.”

“That said I have laid out where I want each platoon to set up their primary, secondary, tertiary, and final defenses.”

“If we do have to evacuate the city we will need a number of boats to do so, I am hoping our rather large militia will be able to assist in that matter.”

"Go and suck your four-armed boyfriends ass you dirty little Mystic Knight cunt." Osema says with a sneer. As Masque approaches Osema makes no overtly hostile actions he does waggle his bony clawed finger however. "I am covered in the blood of all manner of creatures you worthless piece of detritus. Keep your hands to yourself or you will be needing a cyberdoc... Da?"

When Karno pops his clap of thunder and begins making his announcements Osema shuts his mouth and listens. He makes sure to keep an eye out for anyone trying to engage him. Any attempt ot attack or even touch him will be met with deadly force.

Re: Chapter Eight

Callie was about to reply to Oksana when the Major's thunderclap sounded.  Luckily she had reduced her SAMAS to standby or else her jump may have propelled her into someone nearby.  When word came down that she was to serve in the same group as the brodkil and his allies the already pale young woman blanched even further.  "The major will keep them in line, right?" she asked, half to herself and half to the winged elf.

Re: Chapter Eight

Oksana's fists were clenched as she watched some of the mercenaries circling the demons.  But she was likewise snapped to attention by the Major's thunderous clap.  She glanced back at the monsters a few times after that, but focused on everything Zor Karno has to say.
"I'm not afraid of those monsters.... ok, maybe I am afraid of them.  But I won't sit around and watch them hurt anyone.  Callie, if you think they're about to gang up on you or something, just give me one little radio broadcast and I'll be there.  God, I just can't even imagine what they would be doing if they weren't occupied by this war..."
When her own name is read and Oksana is referred to as a "private", she furrows her brow.  "I've been asking to be signed up for regular duty, but I didn't think that was going to happen until after the mission - when I got back to Tolkeen.  Does that mean they put it through?" Oksana asks Calliandra as if the PA pilot might have more information than her.  "I'll have to ask someone I guess."

Erasmus has been watching the show from atop a nearby stairwell, listening in and slowly rising as the speech comes to an end. Hanging his helmet on his belt, he steps up beside Oksana and Callie. Looking over to them each, "I'll respond to that call as well, if there wasn't a war going on we already would have exterminated them. They'd say the same of us as well, I'm sure."

Giving Oksana a smile, it had been a while since he got to speak with the lovely 'mutant'.

Re: Chapter Eight

"HQ platoon, eh?"  Ramenhotep mutters to himself.  This is an interesting turn of events.  I wonder if they think I need extra supervision or something.  ah well.  Ramenhotep sighs and starts making his way through the crowd of soldiers and mercenaries to stand closer to the Major.  He doesn't pay any attention to the demons - he could really care less about what seems to be a company tradition of in-fighting.
When Zor Karno steps down from his "pedestal", Ramenhotep will approach him with a few questions.
"Commander, sir, a moment of your time?  I just wanted to clarify a few items.  Firstly, I still believe that the best way I can assist the defense of this settlement is to produce my ward magic.  Has this duty changed with my assignment to your platoon?  If not, there are a few things I require.  My wards are very dangerous if the proper controls are not included in their creation.  The wards are capable of being programmed to only attack certain people, certain races, only evil being, etcetera.  They can also be programmed to exclude any of the aforementioned groups.  I would not want to be responsible for creating what amounts to a minefield that resulted in hurting innocent townspeople, or our own troops.  In order to program the wards, I will need either the birth-name of each person who may come into range of a ward, or a sample of their blood.  A single drop is enough to program a single ward not to harm that person.  Would you be able to enforce this?"

"Commander, sir, a moment of your time?  I just wanted to clarify a few items.  Firstly, I still believe that the best way I can assist the defense of this settlement is to produce my ward magic.  Has this duty changed with my assignment to your platoon?"

Zor looks at the Sphinx, and replies to the being "No that duty has not changed, in fact it is why I placed you in the Headquarters platoon, saves me the trouble of seeking you out and vice versa." Zor then continues to listen to what the Sphinx has to say.

Ramenhotep:
"If not, there are a few things I require.

Mars Company had not had a diabolist, thus Zor did not know much about wards, only that they could be very useful. “I will ask if all the beings in this town will donate some of their blood, but if they do not then you are freed from any responsibility of a ward attacking an innocent or an allied combatant.”

Zor then re-addresses all those present. “All those beings who do not want to be attacked by the diabolist’s Wards had either furnish a drop of their blood or their birth name.”

“Those who do not, do so at their own risk, Pluto Company will take no responsibility if you are attacked by a Ward, furthermore do not attack a ward because to do so would be hindering the efforts to defend this town”

Re: Chapter Eight

Mephisto's question seems a legitimate one, and so 'Masque turns slightly to answer it, in a reasonably polite voice, "Is difficult to track, yes... but fresh blood is being pretty distinctive, and I am not detecting it. Old blood, yes, need for bath, yes... But no brutal murder in last half-hour or so."

Then it's Lotus' turn for a wave of one big cybernetic hand and a surprisingly gentle 'shhhh', "I am not liking demonkin any more than you are, but Mephisto was asking fair question. Would be bad to begin defence by shooting up own side, even when own side is having a face for radio, da?"

Then there's Osama, and that should probably be dealt with - he's cheerfully flipped the bird by a lower-left hand as 'Masque studies the subdemon for a few moments, then shakes his head, "Who is needing to touch? - besides, I would not need to replace hands, just disinfect them." he retorts cheerfully, "Still and all, blood there is in plenty but nothing too fresh - I hate to be admitting it, but it does not look like you were doing terrible things to Jack."

And at about that point the crack of thunder rings out, and 'Masque is happy enough to stand and turn at ease, lower thumbs tucked in the belt of his oversized BDU's, upper hands busying themselves producing a cigar which he carefully lights with a sizzle from some indistinct cybernetic gadget on one arm... Half-way through the briefing he emits a low groan and mutters something about preferring to work for a living, but on the other hand his pay scale just went up a notch, and what's not to love about that?

Afterwards of course, it's time to break down and meet the troops, 'fodder receiving a polite nod and a chuckled, "Is good to be having someone on team big enough to take cover behind... But you are going to be one stone-cold bitch to dig foxhole for." the 'borg replies with a wry slap of one fur-masque'd hand on the upper part of the leviathan's leg before 'Masque gestures the indicated members of his platoon in close - including the markedly nondescript members of Firefly squad.

"This is going to be tough fight - when Coalition comes they are likely to come hard, youbet. So we are going to be applying infantryman's best friend after his rifle, the shovel. The more we dig, the less we bleed. Firefly, we are needing plots for minefields and killing zones, both remote and command-detonated - we can be starting with this." - 'Masque produces the small pocket-computer he was working with outside of town and offers the screen to the demolition experts - "Otherwise we are going to be doing lot of work... There are good tricks using energy weapons to flash-vitrify earth into temporary trenches and tunnels, and we will be cutting back woods to provide both killing fields and overhead cover on bunkers - will not stop railgun slug, but will force shooting through concealment and every little helps."

"Once we have worked out fortifications, we can work out two to three person fireteams, matched for size and speed, then assign firing points and evacuation routes back to second and third line. Finally we will need GTH plan for when devils grandmother sets up shop in our command structure... Just for reference, I am not knowing most of you from hole in ground - so would be good if we were spending hour or two together somewhere quiet before we start to get to know one another... Anyone have problems with this?"

Oksana smiled back at Photios, genuinely pleased to see him again.  She was still concerned about her sudden induction into Tolkeen service.  Oksana wondered how her change in pay would be handled - but only for a moment.  She was more happy to finally be a part of something.  She felt herself beginning to feel better than she had in a long time.  It was like she only just realized her life until now had been meaningless.  Oksana could now claim to be fighting for a something more important than herself.

"Photios, what do you know about these demons?  The brodkil?  I mean, are they all like this?  Are they all evil - no exceptions?"

"Just how many wards are you planning on creating? I do not want troops having to rest due to blood loss, they have defenses to build."

Re: Chapter Eight

"I plan on creating a basic network of wards to strategically protect the town first.  This should include only a few dozen of my mystic symbols.  When finished, I will revisit each area and increase the number of wards until the enemy arrives.  This way, there will be no weak point if we are attacked early.  Ultimately, there could be a few hundred wards, depending upon how much time we have.  However, not all of them will require the blood of our warriors.  I will need to completely restrict all access to certain areas of the town where the wards will be concentrated.  I will then create corridors of relatively safe passage.  It is within these corridors that I will need to exclude our fighters from the influence of my magic.  As mentioned previously, this can be done in more ways than just by their blood.  For starters, I can exclude all members of non-coalition species from the effect.  As an example, if I program my wards not to harm brodkil, grackle tooth, elves, and gargoyles, then none of those races will need to provide me with blood or their true names.  The only beings who need to be concerned are our human, psi-stalker, and dog boy population.  I can't very well exclude them by their race if I want to harm the enemy.  So, any members of those races who wish to avoid injury from my magic should either submit to me a small supply of their blood, or their true name.  In regards to the blood donors needing rest, I am certain that a quick visit to a psychic healer would have them revivified in no time.  A single pint should suffice from each one."

OOC - At the blood clinic, a pint is the standard amount to donate for most people who give blood in real life.
