With his missiles gone Drano made sure his globe of silence was activated, then waited until the SAMAS got within the max range of two miles his boom gun was capable of effectively hitting an enemy target.  As his radar ticked down the range to target Drano opened up when the SAMAS were 2 miles away.

“Chromium Guardsman, Boom Guns fire at will.”

Unfortunately the SAMAS were airborne and the boom gun was not really meant to strike fast moving targets but he and his men still had range on them, at least for the moment.

McCloud doesn't even bother wasting the effort to activate his TW silencer.  He wants everyone to know who's knocking the SAMs out of the sky.  Opening up with his boom gun he fills the air with flechette flak, not exactly aiming at a specific SAMAS, just hoping to make life as miserable for them as possible.

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

The three glitter boys open fire when the squadrons reach the 2 mile range. Out of 10 shots Drano hit with 3, McCloud hit one and Comartin hit nothing. The SAMAS McCloud hit begins its decent towards the ground, leaving a trail of black smoke behind it. The classic SAMAS have sinigicantly less armour than the heavy SAMs, and many used in the war are patched together relics.

The rest come closer...
(Three squadrons of 8 SAMs (minus 1 classic SAMAS) and 2 groups of 6 skycycles)

At a speed of approx 600 miles per hour, the Air Force clears the last 2 miles in just over 15 seconds. They are maintaining an altitude of just under a mile as they are about to pass over the heads of the Tolkeen forces above ground.

Any experienced soldier would be thinking prepare for incoming missiles

OOC - Amy, if you decide to attack, I will allow it to occur during this 15 second period while they clear the last 2 miles.

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

"For what we are about to receive, may Lord make us truly grateful!" goes out over the 3rd platoon 'net as 'Masque spends the last few seconds of the enemy RPA wing's approach refining targeting data and selecting his weapons until at last traversing the Ion cannon to lock up a Super SAM on one side of the flight, indicating it to the laser teams as he turns the whole APC to give both flank laser teams a clear shot, then highlighting it for them along with
a 'time to in-range' counter.

There's one last verbal order "Alright children, is time to play again... fire when enemy is in range!" and then all becomes noise and fury as the cannon spits bolt after bolt of man-made lightning back into the heavens, each pulse accompanied by a jet of steam from the cooling shroud and a brief spike of EM static across every radio system within a mile...

Magnet Man decides at the last minute to leave his fox hole and run to the APC. He climbs on top of it and stands ready, for the incoming missiles with his hands raised in the air, and his chest puffed out for dramatic effect.

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

Six Iron Dragonfly Juggernauts take to the air from Squad Four, and head straight up to meet the enemy. They quickly open fire with volleys of missiles, and continue to close the gap.

The Coalition Squadron flies right over the entire group, and through the flak from McCloud (he definitely hits at least 2 SAMs, and one sky cycle. The SAMs both regain themselves and continue on. However the sky cycle jets to the groud and the pilot is sent falling on his own, and none of the others seem to consider trying to pick him up). They let loose a fury of mini missiles instead, all spiraling down towards the group behind the sky cycle.

Nearly everyone opens fire on the incoming missiles in an attempt to soften the blow. The barn is hit in several places, and is completely destroyed, there was nobody inside, but the exit for the underground squads may prove difficult.

Magnet Man deflects each and every misile in a 10-foot radius of himself. Even more are shot down by the laser turrets on the APC. It is however still hit several times, as Magnet Man's field of power only covers the middle 20 feet of the APC from the missiles.

The missiles continue to drop at random. Some are completely unharmed, while others are completely vaporized. The falling sky cycle lands with an explosion in one of the fox holes. (a human from Squad Four was in the hole). The pilot lands a few hundred feet away in the dirt.

Squad 3's Leopard APC

A big ion gun and some missiles
-operated by 'Masque currently

Four pulse laser turrets (two operated like WWII bubble-mounts, two operated by video screen)
-Lotus
-Mephisto
-Na Wa
-Photios

Two laser guns (operated by opening a hatch and swinging it around like a Ma Deuce on a Hummer)
-two borrowed human troops from Squad 4

Two railguns (operated by video screens, one to a side)
-two more borrowed troops from Squad 4

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

The random fire is mostly ineffective on teh out of range air force, other than the sky cycle McCloud hit. And as the rest of the group does nothing, the CS air force comes around for another pass, carpeting them all in missiles once again.

The Iron Juggernauts, make themselves very useful, dropping the SAMs and sky cycles out of the air rapidly. Several of the missiles are destroyed before hitting their targets, however more hit than miss.

Again Magnet Man is able to protect the middle area of the APC from any missiles, but it still takes a few hits in the front and back. More explosions and screams fill the air, as many helpless Tolkeen soldiers are blown apart by the relentless Coalition attack.

Hagriss is literally blown out of his fox hole and lands a dozen feet away in a smoking heap. He is mostly unharmed (being a massive supernatural demon) but his ego, and desire to fight is killed in that explosion. The gargoyle has obviously decided to take his freedom before it slips away, and he takes to the air, flying north without saying good bye.

"Fuck! I'm not fuckin' sitting behind this pussy pea-shooter when those fuckin' missiles crack open this tin can!"
Lotus comments loudly after three missiles strike the rear of the APC in rapid succession, just outside Magnet Man's radius of protection.

Lotus gets up from the controls, grabs her gear and starts muttering in another language.  It sounds like she's cursing again, but those who know magic would understand, that is just the way this mystic learned to spit out her spells.  There are no visible effects until Lotus steps outside and climbs up the side of the APC with the ability of a spider.  She will stand atop the vehicle, nod at Magnet man, and assume a defensive fighting stance.  Her plan is to stop any more missiles coming within arm's length but also to get a little more personal with these foes.  Blue-white energy blasts from her eyes will flare out to meet her targets one at a time.

With the SAMAS and Skycyle on top of them, Drano stowed his boom gun and transitioned to the CTT-P40 he had purloined off of a Super SAMAS during the early days of the war as the weapon was better suited for shooting down aerial targets. Hopping out of his fighting hole Drano made his war towards the APC, as Magnet Man standing on top of the vehicle would deflect most missile coming at him.

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

With the CS air force staying out around five thousand feet or more in order to stand off and use their missiles, there's simply not a whole hell of a lot 'Masque can do except pump bolts of lethal ion energy into the sky and trust to his gunmen to take down as many of the missiles as possible, the handful of heavier missiles's in his own launch tubes better saved for trying to strike at some large enemy target or an infantry spread.

Hagriss' desertion receives a low rumbling growl from the big 'feline, but frankly it's not as if he can blame the thing - and the CS are likely to finish him off before too long anyway, whilst Lotus' decision to change positions just gets a 'Taking you out of firing net, good luck!' over her comm channel.

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

The Iron Juggernauts, along with some lucky random fire from the ground make quick work of the small group of CS air units. After this second missile drop, they turn their attention to the Juggernauts and realize they are outmatched. The last 6 or 7 scramble back from whence they came, and just one of the juggernauts seems to have any significant damage when they descend closer to the ground. (and their damage is healing...)

APC has taken 7 mini missiles (210 damage)

Casualty report - 4 dead, 6 wounded, and Hagriss' deserted.

Re: C9 : 3rd Platoon - Squad Three

The sheer amount of damage dealt to the APC would be enough to destroy many more lightly built armoured fighting vehicles, but it's barely served to peel off the outer ablative layer over most of the Leopard's rear hull, and its fighting capacity is undiminished - which leaves 'Masque to rapidly reconfigure the weapons systems for a missile launch against a single massive target, tasking his missiles to launch in waves with plasma and fragmentation warheads leading the way so that they can be detonated to sweep opposing missiles out of the way, followed up by the explosive and armour-piercing 'heavy hitters'.

Of course, somewhere out there, a CS pilot crew in a big damn' suit of armour is probably setting up to do the same... and they have a hell of a lot more missiles than 'Masque does.
