Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

In the dropship, Lotus remains uncharacteristically silent after Photios miraculously restores her severed leg.  She thanks the high magus with a forced smile and nod, but retreats inward to stare at the floor for most of the trip back to Tolkeen, absent mindedly rubbing her currently bare thigh.

Na-Wa doesn't pay attention to the new boss man as he talks over the radio. Instead he continues to let Silonar eat the dead deevils. Besides, in a few day this new boss man will be dead or sent away like all those before him and there would be a new boss man.

Na-wa's very likely prescient cynicism aside (it's remarkable how intelligent appearing to be very stupid can result in someone being), 'Masque fusses over the loading and the cleaning up of the site before falling in beside his pseudo-draconic counterpart and - as he starts to lope back towards home alongside the hover-skiff, looking her way with more than a few questions coming to mind, which get (naturally) tight-beamed back and forth.

Heinrich will remain quiet too, he'd only been here... where ever here was, a short while and had already seen more bloodshed than he could remember. He felt the need to clean this place up in his heart. He would do it, or die trying.

Jack, once again in his human form, sat next to Lotus until she was healed and then afterwards as well. After a long time of silence (not really awkward since they were both Mystic Knights), he spoke very quietly to her. "I am glad you are well, Lotus. Thank you for attempting to kill the Brodkil."

Jack:
"I am glad you are well, Lotus. Thank you for attempting to kill the Brodkil."

Lotus grins as Jack approaches. "It is good to see you, brother. I'm sorry I didn't rise to meet you on the field but you may have noticed I was in pieces.  Photios here has some impressive healing magic. My leg tingles but is good as new otherwise. What happened to you? We had thought Osema and his scum had killed you! Obviously they did not..."

Jack saw her smile and it lifted his spirits a bit. At least she was feeling a bit better. He clasped her arm in a warrior's grip for a moment and reluctantly let go.

"And you as well, Lotus. I am just glad to see you, and with both legs to wrap around some...poor unsuspecting soul before you lop their head off." He chuckled at the sentence's sexual innuendo changed in mid-stream to killing.

He tossed her a wink.

Lotus seems to relax around Jack.  Judging by how her facial expressions change while looking at him, it would seem the pair is sharing a telepathic conversation to anyone paying enough attention.

After several seconds, Lotus nods in the direction of Niles Draconia.

Jack listened and shrugged at her explanation, but then smiled. He couldn't resist teasing her just a little bit.  His eyes twinkled with amusement and something else as well.

He then sobered and nodded seriously.

He looked over to where she nodded and shook his own head.

Jack spoke up and called out to Niles. "Brother Niles! Please, if you aren't too busy, come over and join Lotus and I."

Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

Nuitari, and Disharmony are forced to take the low road, with the dropship keeping pace over-head. Silvermasque volunteered to stay on the ground as well, in case they run into any trouble.

(If anyone remembers before the break) The threat of the Coalition attacking was high, but it appears as though they remained on the sidelines to allow Tolkeen to fight among themselves, and they never make an attack.

The entire group makes it safely back to Tolkeen once again. The city looks just the same, other than an unusually high presence of juicers, all belonging to The Juicer Army of Liberation. Tolkeen also has an increased air force patrolling the skies, about twice as much as last time everyone was here.

Major Zor Karno is available to meet and greet everyone as they return. He shakes everyones hand as they exit the drop ship and has a team move in to take care of the dead bodies and cleaning.

Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

The Major makes a point of introducing himself to Heinrich and Disharmony, and offers them employment to stay on with the team, pending Nuitari's report. He also asks, in this case for a full report from Dyvalis and Silvermasque, regarding Portia and Advisor Warrick.

"You are all clear for the night. Tolkeen is very proud of you all today, and I am sorry for the losses you took. Before I release you however there are a few quick announcements. Pluto Company has reformed and most of you will be serving on 3rd platoon under Lieutenant Nuitari. Your Lieutenant will brief you all in the morning. Have a good night my friends."

OOC -- everyone is free to do as desired in Tolkeen for an evening, before sleeping in the barracks (or elsewhere) and reporting in to Nuitari at a time of his choosing. E-clips and bullets are still free (no more than 5 per "customer" unless paid for). Grenades, missiles, and armour repairs are 20% of book-listed prices.

Na-Wa takes Silonar to a place where he can stay and Na-Wa does not have to worry about Silonar eating anybody. Once that is done Na-Wa then goes to one of the many buildings where he can give an old fat lady some credits and he gets to spend the night with skinny pretty lady.

Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

Every billboard, and every bar displays the latest in the war updates.

"...and he was eventually reunited with his family. The Juicer Army of Liberation has declared full support and have joined forces to our cause. Every day we come closer to victory over the ignorant nose of the Coalition." A cartoon of a popular image of Emperor Prosek, modified with a gigantic nose extending off the screen is displayed. "Just hours ago the traitors Theodore Kitt and Dragana Kovacevic were found and executed before they could betray us to the states. Senator Renszath escaped the confrontation however and is at large. He is to be killed on site if encountered..."

There is a list of towns and villages that have fallen to the Coalition advance. This general story repeats all evening. Later, there is a report of Multiple Images, Invincible Armor and Impervious to Energy being taught to anyone interested.

Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

Boris collects his money, and resupplies on ammunition. He tours the city alone, all evening and returns to the barracks after midnight to sleep before moving out again in the morning.

Mephisto finds somewhere to be alone as well, to cast a spell in secret, and regenerate all of his lost energy in the fight. He does not return to the barracks until the following morning, just before breakfast and then the meeting.

Thasha spends all his new money on some better weapons. He was hoping to buy from Zed again, but it seems Zed is not in Tolkeen currently. He then looks to spend time with the others, whoever is doing something fun!

Niles informs everyone via radio, that his services have been called upon elsewhere, and he will not be continuing his employment with Tolkeen. He leaves without saying goodbye to anyone.

Amy attends to her dropship along with Hopper who has officially become the gunner of the vessel. It has taken a fair bit of damage, and is getting a major weapons upgrade.

Photios likewise informs everyone over the radio he is required to return to Dweomer. He leaves shortly after Niles and personally says goodbye to Silvermasque, Lotus and Van.

Van is in the hospital being treated for his injuries but is conscious. He will be there for a few days at least and will not be joining on the next mission, at least not right away.

Disharmony is ordered to go back out on patrol for the rest of the night looking for any traces of Renszath.

Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

”Yes, Heinrich, you are staying with us.  I believe you can purchase the equipment you need at a discount.  Mercenaries can go right over there.  Let me know if you get any trouble.  Oh and in the morning, before we leave for the next assignment, we’ll discuss a method to prevent something like that agony spell from ever happening again.” Nuitari points Heinrich in the appropriate direction.

After Major Karno greets everyone, Nuitari makes a quick broadcast on the platoon’s radio.  ”Enjoy your downtime.  You’ve got my radio channel if you need it, but otherwise I’ll see you all in the morning outside our assigned barracks.” If he can, Nuitari plans to spend the night with his wife, at home.  He delays the reunion just long enough to repair the mystic circles on his hover skiff and to complete three rituals of magic.

Nuitari then makes his way home and into Jenna’s arms for at least a few hours. The lieutenant gets dinner, drinks, and romance in an encounter which seems far too rushed.  Nuitari doesn't give her classified information but does tell her how the war is going well.  He doesn't make promises about his next time to be home, but tries his best to leave her with hope. He rises before her the next day and decides he can’t wake her and slips out quietly.

Nuitari is outside the barracks, standing on the ground in front of his hover skiff, next to three new 'companions'.  It would seem that Nuitari spent some time working on his magics and has summoned three creatures to bolster the platoon's fighting strength.  There are two 12 foot tall wolf men, and a short stocky old hag of a woman with wicked claws and putrid robes - her face concealed behind them.

Nuitari greets everyone casually. His armour, which had been severely damaged in the battle with Renszath a day before, now looked pristine as the magic worked to heal itself.  If anyone tries saluting or standing at attention, Nuitari just waves it off and tells everyone to be at ease.

”Before we get into the details of our next mission, I need some assistance.  Some of you already know this, but my magic requires either your  true names or a sample of blood in order to exclude you from its harmful effects.  Yesterday's battle would have gone quite differently had I not been forced to restrain my wards and we might have also managed to kill the raksasha demon. As it stands now, we probably have a very angry demon of great power hoping to gain revenge. I can ensure he is kept at bay, but will need your cooperation.  If you have any questions about the risks with 'true names' I am happy to explain privately."

OOC - If your character does not respond to the above, I'll just assume you were willing to share your true name. If you actually post "I ignore the lieutenant's bullshit about true names and blood" then I'll deal with it in character :)

"Our next mission.  We are to proceed to Juyong Outpost which will be our base of operations for a while.  From there we will be responsible for patrolling the vicinity and defending the base if necessary.  We have no specific intel of an imminent attack here but it is a line we must hold.  We will also be picking up two new members. They aren't new so that's some good news.  Any questions?"  If there are none, or when the questions are answered, Nuitari will give the order to mount up and 'roll' out.

Heinrich nods and thanks Nuitari for his help and heads to the armory to see about picking up some weapons and armor.

(I'll do this tonight when I'm home with my books)

The next morning, Heinrich will give Nuitari his true name for the magic, he's somewhat weary, but these people have had his back since he arrived on this gods forsaken planet and he'd have theirs. "Sir, if I may, what makes this outpost significant?"

Mephisto arrived in the morning just like Nuitari, with a couple summoned companions. He searches out Lotus to make sure she is still doing ok, and nods at Silvermasque when he first sees him. He is disappointed to learn Van is staying in the hospital for the next mission...

Mephisto's new companions are just as demonic. One is a massive 15 foot tall ogre-like creature, and the other is a 5 foot tall, hunched-over dragon-like demon. He also purchased a hover skiff, just like Nuitari's.

Re: Chapter Eleven : They Were Expendable

Thasha didn't get out of the hospital until late at night, but still had enough time to purchase some much better weaponry. He now has body armor, a rail gun, a particle beam cannon, several greandes and a giant vibro-sword. As soon as he spots Silvermasque in the morning he runs to him as fast as he can. "Silvermasque! Silvermasque! Look at all this stuff I bought! This body armor, the guy said it can stop 100 Coalition tanks! And this gun, is a rail gun! He said it can hit Chi-Town if I can just find a building tall enough! Where is Chi Town? And this gun, is a particle beam cannon, he said it's the best! He said it can, do something pretty amazing too! And this sword, is a vibro sword, just like the ones you have and you used on that cat demon from yesterday. Can you show me how to use mine like you did yesterday? That would be crazy! If my father could see me now!!!"

The young greot finally stops talking long enough to breathe. He seems to have grown several inches overnight, and is now over 7 feet tall.
