In his cabin, Jago places his comm down on the desk. The call had proven most interesting...
"Funnily enough, it did occur to me to record my travels for posterity, even if posterity is only my grandchildren, in this case." Again there is that flicker of concern and sadness on Corlan's face, before his expression becomes more cheerful again, "Yes, I've recorded images and impressions of various places along the way. Some worlds are less... exotic... than others. Underground complexes on asteroids lose a little of their charm when you've seen six or seven of them. Parallel evolution works for societies too, a given environment forces a particular lifestyle, but if you look a little closer, the small details vary."
"At Macene, the people, in an environment where there is little open space, fill that space with light and music, but at Gitosy they seem almost proud of the darkness, adapted to it, as it were. Two asteroid belts, less than seven parsecs apart, and yet two entirely different societies, and they... Ah, I'm sorry, I'm rambling. This is all still rather exciting for me, I'm afraid."
"What is your homeworld like?"
Kal-chan gives Alexei an apologetic smile, as Saskia returns to ignoring them. They, after all, are mere flesh, bone and blood, she will find time for them when beings of plastic, metal and electricity no longer require her full attention.
He leads the Navigator off the bridge, and into the forward section of the crew lounge. Cramped though it is, it's the only place in the crew swction of Profit Margin big enough for a crew meeting, where people can relax a little. He glances about, conspiratorially, before murmuring, "Seriously... she's a good ship. State of the Art, even if she doesn't look it, The engines, computer, sensors and weapons are all only a couple of years old, courtesy of the Imperial Navy."
"And the crew is the best. Take Saskia, she can tell what the Jump Drive is thinking. Did you notice that she wasn't wearing boots? She says she can feel how the ship is, from the vibrations in the deck plates." He chuckles, then continues. "I can't even feel any vibrations, let alone figure out what they mean."
"Jago's a good Captain. If you play fair with him, he'll never let you down. Yas has been here almost since Jago got the ship, and she knows it inside and out. Don't whatever you do, try to hide anything from her. If she puts her mind to it, she WILL find it, and if she doesn't find that, then she'll find something else you'd rather she didn't."
He stops then, thinking for a long moment, "Shui is our medic and steward. Not been aboard long, so I can't say much about her. She seems okay though, if a bit quiet, but you know what they say about still water, Unless you're from a desert world, of course, when you likely won't have a clue what they say about still water."
"All the crew quarters are along the outer wall of the lounge, and back there is Engineering. Now would be a good time to take a peek, while Saskia's on the bridge."
He leads the way aft...
