Garda Vilis/Vilis  (0308)  Date: 246-1107 19:15

With at least some members of the crew deciding to take a few days' break away from the comforts of civilisation, they spend the day after the dinner with making preparations, purchasing supplies and necessary equipment.

They also locate a rental agency, and hire a rugged, tracked all-terrain vehicle, capable of carrying up to eight people (and their gear) in a sealed, controlled environment - no need to worry about hiking cross country, in the high carbon dioxide levels.  Yas has had experience with tracked vehicles, though most of them mounted large calibre weaponry, whereas the ATV is unarmed, the operating principles should be the same.

In an emergency, the vehicle could also double as a shelter, if a little cramped, and it can provide electricity, more than sufficient to allow the operation of a coffee percolator.  The vehicle has its own-built in comms, short range radar, and GPS systems.

When not shopping, time is spent creating an itinerary.  Garda Vilis has some areas noted for their natural beauty, mostly consisting of rugged hills and canyons.  There are also projects to intruduce non-native plants to some areas, in an effort to reduce the carbon dioxide levels.  Most such areas have a wide variety of species, from dozens of worlds, and many are open to the public.

What the planet does lack is beaches suitable for sunbathing.  Temperatures on the somewhat cool side discourage prolonged exposure to the elements, while the dim red star which is Garda Vilis' primary would do little to produce a decent tan, even if the tidal lock would allow round-the-clock basking.

Dinner at the hotel, on the second night, is full of conversation about places to go, and things to see, complete with liberal helpings of leaflets about these places and things...
