RoA One-Shot Adventures Setting/NPCs Thread

SETTING DETAILS

WOOD'S END

The village of Wood's End sits on the southern-most edge of the Ardeep Forest to the east of Waterdeep.

Wood's End boasts a tavern, shrines to Tymora, Chauntea, and Silvanus, ten wooden homes, 6 large farms (with homes on the farmsite for a total of 16 homes), and a drygoods shop.

Folks here are self-sufficient and are generally wary of strangers.

Crop farming takes place on a small scale, but most of the farms here raise sheep, pigs, chickens, and a small number of goats.

TAVERN:  The Lucky Hunter

The Hunter (as the locals call it) has seen better days, but then, all the buildings in Wood's End can make that claim.  Small repairs that should have been made long ago are starting to show more and more.  The wind cuts through holes and gaps in the lumber of the walls, and the floor is in need of repair.  Many of the plates here are chipped and only half the lamps have wicks.

The owner of The Hunter is Morgan Lorette, a dour quiet man who walks with a limp.  Morgan used to travel to and from Waterdeep frequently, but an encounter with bandits (as he tells it) caused severe wounds to his legs, and to this day he can not stand for very long, cannot carry heavy loads, etc.

His rugged and rough son-in-law Caldin Burgous helps now and then, but he is more often chasing women or hunting in the Ardeep.

His daugter Mari is heavyset and sad-seeming, a faded flower who knows her days in the sun are over.  She raises twin daughters, who are about to turn two in a few weeks.  She does what she can to help her father, but her children take up most of her time and attention.

Meals are simple affairs, and the ale is pretty standard stuff. But it is what the locals are used to, so it's good enough.

There is room for a small group to stay above the small stable on the tavern's western side.  The room is seldom used.

--------------------------------------------

The Shrines

The shrine to Tymora is the largest of the three and the best cared-for of them, too.  A balding man of about 40 years tends the shrine several times a week.  He makes his home in town and is paid a small stipend to tend to the shrine, which was erected when Wood's End was first established some 60 years ago by the temple to Tymora in Waterdeep.  His name is Delton and he has some powers as a healer and a gambler.

The shrine to Chauntea is the newest of the three, and is sometimes well-attended, especially at planting time, slaughter time, and this time of year, right before the hard snows fall.  A sort woman named Bekka tends to the shrine.  She is the wife of the most prosperous farmer in Wood's End, Wolmer Feldstuck  People less successful than the Feldstucks grumble that somehow Bekka uses magical powers to help the crops and aminals of their farm grow better and those of rival farms worse.  Bekka denies all claims to that effect.

The shrine of Silvanus is atteneded mostly in private by lone people or couples, but never are more than two people seen there at any one time.  An old half elven druid known only as Goldeyes tends the shrine.  Some say he lives under it in a cave, but there is no evidence to back that up.  Goldeyes is quiet, respectful, and offers councel and healing for free as needed.  He has a large eagle as his main companion, and the eagle is often seen circling the shrine or the small town itself.  Is it protecting something or looking for something?

SHOP:  Norris's Dry Goods and Services

This large, rambling wood structure sits at the middle of the small village and everyone from town gathers there at least three times a week to gossip, pick up things that they themselves can not make on their own, and enjoy the company of Rejald Norris ("Rej" as the locals call him).  Rej is a tall halfling with pink cheeks, bright red hair, and an almost constant smile on his face.

He seems to know where everything is located in his cluttered shop, and he seems to have just the right item to do the job at hand.  There are several signs around the shop that say "If you don't see what you are looking for, just ask Mr. Norris."

His assistant is a silent and muscular bald man with many tattoos on his tan skin.  No one knows if the man is silent because he does not understand Common or if he can not speak for some other reason.  (Rej speaks to him in Halfing, and the tall man only nods or gives facial expressions in reply.)

Prices are fair and while some of the items are used, they are all in good shape.

OOC: Prices are standard Player's Handbook.

----------------------------------------------

The Farms

A halfling family with the last name of Huddle runs a prosperous fruit and vegetable farm that is close to the edge of the Ardeep.  Almost everyone in town likes the Huddles and purchases apples, potatoes, and other items from the halfling from time to time.  The Huddles also make wonderful spiced or sweet apple wines that are sold in some of the best taverns in Waterdeep.

Other farms include the Lincoln farm (pigs and chickens, eggs), the Sandrous farm (goats, a few head of cattle, dairy products), the Hendrin farm (bees, honey, herbs, lettuces, cabbages), the Smith farm (chickens, eggs, grains), and the Morse farm (grains, tubers, beans).

-----------------------------------------------

The Citizens

Most citizens who do not own the farms in Wood's End are either workers on those farms or woodsmen.

Benn Shoren is as 20 year-old huntsmen who usually brings in more of the local game than other huntsmen, and he likes to boast about it.  He is tall, blonde, and has a quick smile.  He is often ready to tell a tall tale, arm wrestle, or challenge others to test their skills (when he thinks he can win), but is normally a good-natured fellow.  He is supposed to marry the missing young ranger Karitta Lynxblood in the coming spring, if she ever returns.
