Re: Over 9000 things I am no longer permitted to do in an RPG

In reply to pfarland (msg # 2247):

A bunch of those are equipment that was actually present in the books in 3e (slip spray, monowire bolo rounds).  A few of them wouldn't actually work in a real application (you neglect the fact that monowire is virtually weightless and difficult to contain for practical applications).

The rest of them...

Well, the GM was being a bit silly by just cutting you off.  It's more fun to let you do that kind of stuff and then figure out that the only reason 99% of Shadowrunners are still alive is that the corps don't care enough to spend the cash it would cost to make them dead.  Once you start to tip that balance... well, that's when you get a team of psychos sent after you.  3-4 PCs later, most players start to understand that.

The stuff that's just "not nice" kind of ignores the reality of the setting, too.  Shadowrunners are hired murderers.  Does the dead guy care how nice you were about it?

5379: Sneaking my necromancer's revenant army through air port security by claiming the urn contained my mother's ashes worked once and only once.

5380: Raising the corpses of my fallen enemies is a time honored tradition of necromancers everywhere. Animating the skeletons of my still living foes, though viable, is just plain evil.

5381: Killing your ally just for ruining a joke is not what a True Neutral character should do. Even if I can resurrect them with no trouble. It annoys them.

5382: Stitching together undead abominations from dozens of corpses is acceptable, even encouraged. Stitching together hundreds of children's dolls and animating them with the souls of dead children is just twisted.

It started off as a dirty trick roll to bluff for nausea. But he got so good at it he decided to "sunder: private parts" with his living steel shin guards. Dm gave me an appropriate DC to roll and BAM.

Character was a rogue who used a greatclub with a rusty nail in it, Gave them the "ol 1-2" nut shot (sometimes they left the ground) and then club over the back of the head.

It was cheap lol almost as cheap as

5383: Am no longer able to carry around a utility combat shovel or anything I can improvise as a shovel, infact, as soon as I try to break earth whatever I am using breaks.
5384: Am no longer able to take skill ranks in Crafting: Traps
5385: After tossing my shovel at an owlbear, and having it go an extra 30ft and fly over a ravine before smashing on the rocks below and a sandworm swallowing up the pieces, and no longer able to take 120+ bear traps via 3 mules. I am no longer able to buy marbles. (if you know what they do mechanically, mixed with what rogues are good at, you will know why)

Hah!  Awesome!  I stopped playing SR back in 97-98, so I missed out on 3rd ed.  Looks like I might be getting back into it as that post ended up with an invite into a running game.

And yeah, running is all about murder, theft, and destruction for profit.  That doesn't really attract people with high moral standards.

I read 5366 as BLTs, and I thought that was hilarious until I saw the later ones.

Also, as I've never played Shadowrun, what is monofilament?

In reply to Merevel (msg # 2261):

I have a house rule in pretty much every game I run (especially the ones that don't have rules on a called shot to the nuts): everything--literally everything--in the world falls into one of two categories. It either 1) does not have testicles, or 2) is wearing a cup.

So, living steel shin guards? Adamantine cup. That's how they plan on defending against the attack.

A strike to the groin that is hard enough and the cup becomes a liability as it is forced into the person wearing it. Actually saw it happen once in a nasty rugby accident back in collage, they had to cut the cup out of the guy it happened to.

Are you saying you crotch-punted people hard enough to tell the GM they should throw up after it?!
Pathfinder actually has rules for that: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamema...mbat#TOC-Dirty-Trick

I think an attack hard enough to punt an athletic supporter up where the sun don't shine would have likely been enough to have caused more serious damage without the protection.  I think it would work like steel toe boots (see the lovely Mythbusters episode on that): anything that hits hard enough to crush the steel toe and cut off your toes would have been enough force to utterly demolish your toes if you hadn't been wearing boots with protection -- at least with a crushed cap the hospital can sew your toes back on.  If they're completely crushed, they're just gone and you can't get them back.  It seems like an athletic supporter would protect in the same manner -- better the possibility of sewing things back on than seeing things with unrecoverable crush injuries.

If the steel-caps on your shoes get crushed it means that your toes get crushed. You can sew something back on if it was CUT off, which is not the case if something crushes your steel-caps.
There is a difference between an athletic supporter and a cup. Athletic supporters are basically the male equivalent of a sports bra. A cup on the other hand is what gives you the protection against somebody kicking you between the legs and again... if the kick is strong enough to compress the cup, your jewels will be crushed. The sewing scenario applies only if the jewels actually get cut off, which the cup cannot really protect your from tbh...

And, having been a baseball catcher and umpire for a very long time, I have been hit directly in the cup.  Even with the protection, it hurts like hell...just not as much as not having been wearing one.

The one I saw was a football game and the guy tried to block a kick with his groin (was trying to tackle their guy but did not quite make it. Did cause a fumble cause he landed on the ball - was just a little later they realized what had occurred - also after that they declared officially that the cup itself was substandard and to fault for his injuries, seems it shattered.)

5387:  Use the phrase "Well, he/she pistachioed me off!" as a justification for destroying entire buildings or, especially, city blocks.  Especially when the offender is the only one in said building or city block who is actively against the party or character affronted.

5388: No longer allowed to create a MechWarrior Mercenary Unit Commander, import him to Phase World and sell my drop ship to upgrade all my mechs with Starship grade weapons, armor, and equipment. That BattleMaster with the Particle Cannon that can shoot orbiting starships made the GM develop a nervous tick. The less said about the JagerMech with rotary Boom-Guns the better.

5389: No longer allowed to create Dragonfire Adept Assassins who specialized in seduction

5390: I am not allowed to play Tony Stark, Henry Pym, Hank McCoy, Reed Richards, T'Challa, Forge, or Peter Parker in Marvel ever again. Breaking the laws of comic book physics should not be an every day thing.

5391: I am not allowed to talk someone into playing Magneto or Polaris while I play Colossus in Marvel. It gets ugly fast.

5392: I am no longer allowed to play Gunsmiths, EOD specialists, or any Engineer in Twilight 2000 or Twilight 2013

5393: I am no longer allowed to play Xander to the best of his abilities in Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG. Ditto for Riley Finn.

More like way to smart for which ever GM you had, from the sounds of it.
I personally would have done something to make it so your mechs would have a major weakness for those weapons, like your power supply could not support the weapons, one shot and you hit the star ship and your generator blows up to.  (if I were the GM - but then I tend toward power gaming to, so I know how to counter it as well.)

Re: Over 9000 things I am no longer permitted to do in an RPG

In reply to ShadoPrism (msg # 2278):

The problem was that power supply, not an issue. The weights and costs for weapons given were including a dedicated fusion reactor as part of the weapon. Naruni Enterprises may try to screw you over by extending you credit you can't pay back, but the equipment they sell is top notch. So basically that was not an option for the GM.  He did wise up and made plenty of encounters we had to be outside the Mech for, so that worked for him well enough.

Re: Over 9000 things I am no longer permitted to do in an RPG

I had a game where the players looted everything. After a few weeks, they had insane levels of equipment, and the only way to really fight equipment in that game is with more equipment. Good thing we didn't take that game too seriously.

I couldn't help but laugh at 5390, as I have a list of people who are never allowed to play Reed Richards ever, ever again.
