In addition to Order of the Stick, XKCD, Erfworld, Dr. Mcninja and satw, my "short list" is
Girl Genius (
http://www.girlgeniusonline.com) Never-ending adventure in a steampunk world. Great story, characters and setting. Do read this.
Schlock Mercenary (
http://www.schlockmercenary.com) Follows a ship full of sci-fi mercenaries. It might be soft sci-fi space opera, but the author still keeps from in neat nuggets of delicious science. Plus explosions and lots of humor.
Goblins (
http://www.goblinscomic.com) Who's to say the goblins are the bad guys, and the adventurers the good guys. Started off as a d&d parody, but has become an awesome epic with excellent characters that you really feel for.
Misfile (
http://www.misfile.com) Boy gets transformed into girl, now has to live that way. Takes the subject matter pretty seriously, leading to a very nice story.
Casual Villain (
http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/) Child heiress to the troll criminal empire, and her undead wizard bodyguard. Nice art and intriguing world. There's also some real gems of dialogue and one-liners in there.
Freefall (
http://freefall.purrsia.com) Larcenous squid alien steals bio-engineered wolf engineer to get his ship space-worthy. Has some very interesting thoughts on the psychology of squid aliens, bio-engineered wolves and robots.
Lackadaisy (
http://www.lackadaisycats.com) How to not run a speakeasy during the prohibition. Wonderful art, and enjoyable characters, but doesn't update very often.
Precocious (
http://www.precociouscomic.com) What do you get when you have a class full of kids with genius IQs? Chaos. A fun casual read.
Spacetrawler (
http://spacetrawler.com) Earth-girl kidnapped by crew of aliens, to save an innocent race from slavery. Okay story, contains some excellent one-liners and scenes.
Exterminatus Now (
http://exterminatusnow.co.uk) Humor, furry and warhammer 40k mixed with randomness. Read it for the humor, not the story.
The following contains mature subject matter.
Prequel or Making a Cat Cry: The Adventure (
http://www.prequeladventure.com) Follow the sad and pathetic adventuers of Katia Managan. If you do not end up cheering for her, you have no heart. Don't give up though, if you feel like the author is being unfairly harsh on poor Katia. It does get better, and then it gets awesome.
