Re: Life and Death

All right, I know I work in a satellite office of Hades.  I know what to expect there.  So, after the death of one relative, followed by the hospice entrance of another, effectively cutting my family in half, not to mention my own health issues, I get from my boss, "My, you're handling this well."  and then assigns me to mop the floor, can't say I was shocked.

And the little darling 20-something sits there and plays with his smart phone, watching me mop the floor.  He had nothing to do so he did...nothing.  I expect him to be promoted into a supervisory position soon.

Oh, and according to management, family leave stops once the person dies, never mind anything you might have to do such as go to courts, lawyers, etc, etc.  I am told there is Karma...what good deeds did these daemons do, to get to be MY bosses, and what did -I- do in a previous life to get THIS ?

Re: Life and Death

Man, that was some kinda bug...not sure what it was, exactly, or where I caught it, but it really snuck up on me.  I thought I was just having really bad allergies, couldn't get my sinuses to stay unstuffed long enough to get a good deep breath, etc...

Got to the last couple of days of the week and found myself down with a 101 degree fever.  Spent the last three and a half days in bed, unconscious or only partly conscious for most of the time...first time since mid-week I've been online.  Glad to say I feel massively better.

Still trying to decide just how I feel about the game that dumped me for failure to post often enough.  Yeah, I'm one of those who generally says, "How hard could it be to make time to get on and at least post 'Hey, I'm not well'..."  However, I'm also one who doesn't get sick very often...when I do, it tends to come on hard and fast and it hits me hard.

I understand the GM's perspective.  Still trying to decide just how I feel about getting the boot, because I was certainly less than thrilled with what the GM had managed to set in motion for me in the game.

Re: Life and Death

Positions of teamleader open up. I'm told that only people with the necessary skills are eligible. One of which is bilingual, in our native language and french.
The only things necessary are a few personality tests. Purely a formality I'm told. Still, I ask around with the existing teamleaders. They tell me not to worry and just be truthful.

I'm not selected for the position. Not too bad, because atleast the other one that was as capable as me was selected for the position. I congratulate him, shrug and continue work. Later on the day, I'm told that there are 4 people selected.
One speaks a passable french, but his knowledge of our procedures sucks and he's really old. Basically he pulled the sympathy card and told a few people he knew well in HR, 'If I'm not selected, I quit." and seeing as they felt sorry for him he got in.

The other two are native french speakers. No worries, I think, but then it becomes clear that one literally only knows 3 words of our language. That and he's rather new and tends be a pineapple to customers and can barely start up a pc on his own. After two days they put him back as a normal worker.

the last one simply refuses to utter a word in our native language, and tends to ignore half of the workers, when they need assistance.

Usually I'm someone who lets things that can't be helped just be, and grind my teeth and move on. However literally 20 people and about 4 of the already existed teamleaders ask me why I wasn't selected.
I had no clue, so I went and asked, slightly pressured by the constant questions.

About the third of the tests were about conflict resolution. They told me not to think too hard on the questions and just follow. Seeing as I didn't really have a professional history of conflict resolution, except of calming down customers, I tend to rate myself rather low on questions like "are you experienced at resolving disputes?"
In the other questions I responded that I like to take a calm and objective look at the situations. This outlook has worked well with both my collagues and customers so far.

For some reason they deduced that I was a spineless guy who liked to evade conflicts, because I didn't want to involve myself in conflicts.

after talking with someone of HR over, she basically said "well, you really sold yourself short on that test. We know that the questions aren't always clear, but it costs to much to get new ones."

anger at myself and the situation was kind of high. I still surprised myself I didn't fly in a rage. But due to my big fruity mistake, I'm still a normal worker. When inquiring why those others were selected, I basically got the answer that they had sponsor willing to vouch for them. Nobody vouched for me because those apples didn't think it was necessary, and thus they needed to take the test results into accounts.

Sorry for the long rant.

Re: Life and Death

I dislike artists who can't keep things professional when you've paid them for a service. Especially ones who are also friends but can't keep the two separate.

I especially dislike ones who think they own you simply because you've commissioned them in the past. Particularly if they think they can tell you who you can spend money on for commissions. I'm sorry, I thought it was MY money. Not yours.

This anger has been brought on by a recent issue where they came into a stream with another mutual artist friend and saw I'd purchased something, threw a huge hissy fit, and flounced out. THEN decided to stream but blatantly stated that they wouldn't be streaming my paid for commissions even though it was the agreed upon date because I am, apparently, a horrible person and a traitor.

Yes, keep that up pal. It won't be long before I report you to paypal and get the payment reversed if I keep seeing others get their art who paid after I did.

I really fruiting hate hypocrites... Big ol' hypocrites.

You, anonymous hypocrite, calling people out in the manner you did with me is going to make more people turn against what you're all about than support you. I am now fine to say I am idealogically opposed to you by how you outed what kind of person you are in your completely hypocritical language and manner. I do not want to be on the same page as you on any matter and you deserve to fall in a deep hole.

Re: Frenemy

All right, Frenemy, you lied to me and told me you needed me to help you out this Saturday, when you had five other friends to help you with your little craft show, carrying your stuff about, the amount of which was FAR more than you led me to believe.  I explained I couldn't help you out at the exact time you requested (sometime in the middle of the day) as I was busy helping my spouse pack up the inlaws' estate.  You played the blame game and told me how I had sacrificed time spent with YOU and instead selfishly helped my spouse.......the only sacrifice I can now see is me spending one more minute talking to you, ever.  And no mystery why two of your other abused friends failed to show up to help - only mystery is why ANYONE came to help you at all.  To top it off was the 'required' uniform to be your assistant mule....and your deep indignation that I dared say 'no' to you. And now you are claiming all sorts of slander upon me....something is terribly wrong with you.

Hard facts

So, I just found out that my favorite ability that this one character of mine has cannot be used by that particular character. The GM said that I could keep it and gave perfectly good lore reasons related to my character why, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to glean the same level of enjoyment out of it as I have in the past. That makes me sad.

Health issues. Tons of them, all at once.

Having to do some screening and tests to see if I've got something really bad that I don't even want to put into words, or if it's something more mild and just annoyingly similar in symptoms.

Also dropping weight off in far too short a time. 2 pant sizes in a week is frightening and I hope we can figure out what is wrong because I feel like death.

Just stick to the plan, guys...

FINALLY...two and a half months after it was supposed to happen...the floor has been redone at work.  All started because I felt it was ridiculous that the floor should be in that condition in the first place...so I bought some wood filler and started filling in all the holes where the finish had peeled up and taken out slivers and shards of wood, or where people had thumped stuff on the floor so hard they'd made dents in it.

That all needed to be sealed, somehow, of course...so I sent a request up the chain of command about what needed to happen to do that.  The initial plan was, maintenance would get us the equipment, we'd have to do the labor.  Fine, no problem...I've never finished a floor before but I'm pretty generally handy and if I know the theory behind something, I can usually figure out how to make it happen.

Then they decided they were renting equipment to do a floor somewhere else, so they'd do ours at the same time.  No problem...we got the floor ready for them to work on before the decided date, and waited.

No-show.  Call to find out.  The other floor wasn't ready yet, so they hadn't rented the device.  Fine...when will it be ready?  We'll let you know.  Okay, well, the floor needs to be done by this date, so we can rehearse on it.  No problem...

That date comes...and goes...no-show.  Another call.  Other floor's still not ready.  Rehearsals are happening, will it be ready by this weekend?  Should be...

We clear all their gear after the last rehearsal, get everything ready again.  And another no-show, with another call...they have the machine, they just couldn't get a crew (prior to this time, they always had a crew, they just didn't have the machine...)  Another week of rehearsals, all the stuff gets taken down again...

This time, they show up...and do about a third of the floor.  Apparently, they weren't expecting to have to strip the old finish off the floor and it was gumming up their machine, so they quit partway through.  But they'll be back in a few days with a stripping compound...in the meantime, can I sand all the places where I put down the filler?  The job will go faster that way...so I immediately drop everything and take care of that.

Two weeks later, they come in to start working on the floor...without the stripping compound.  Apparently, they've found something that doesn't require taking the old finish all the way down to bare wood, so they just need to scuff the floor to make it stick (floor's plenty scuffed already, but whatever).  Now the OTHER show is rehearsing on it, dancing for four hours each day...so they can't finish it.  We'll call them when rehearsals are done, they'll leave everything there, and that way, they can come in and get it all done right away.

Rehearsals were over three weeks ago.  Nobody was doing anything.  I've used floor buffers before, so I said 'screw it' and buffed the floor.  Found the floor stripper that had gotten dropped off sometime, put that down, and buffed the floor again.  Told my boss to pin down the guy in charge of the project for maintenance, because we needed an applicator to put the finish down (I called him last week, he said he'd drop one off...still not there...)  My boss informs me that the guy in question is out of town.

At that point, my patience is shot.  I go to Home Depot and buy an applicator and come back and put down the new finish.  It's not a perfect job, but it's leaps and massive bounds beyond what we had before.  If they'd just left all the stuff there, in the first place, like was the original plan, it would have been done by the middle of April.

Thanks guys...good to know exactly where we stand on your priority list...(and people wonder why I've gotten in the habit of just going ahead and tackling projects for our department without contacting the 'proper' departments to do them for us...)

Re: Just stick to the plan, guys...

I hate it when a GM ok's my character (sometimes after a few changes) then comes back later, after I am already in the game and tells me 'you can't have this ability any more, change it to this instead' then later when I can use the ability they insisted I take, they tell me I can't use it. (has happened a couple of times with different GMs over the past couple years).
Or tells me to roll up a new character along a set limit then boots me out cause the character does not meet what they want (not that they ever tell you what they want or even return your PMs to tell you that - just Ignores you.)
