Re: Fanstastically Good Stuff

A song came on the radio that I hadn't heard in ages. Lots of good memories. ^_^

Re: Fanstastically Good Stuff

Got an email from my cable TV provider.

The title was "Info just for you!"

It was the TV schedule.

Since it was "just for me," I gather I am the only person they chose to share this with.  Only Me.  I am The One who knows what's going to be on television tonight.

I am feeling very honored and privileged.

Re: Fanstastically Good Stuff

It is 8 am and I have four 8 year old girls all up, fed and ready to start the day.  My daughter had her first slumber party last night with three of her friends.  Im half awake and getting breakfast for them, they all want something different of course, and I hear one of them say 'This is the best slumber party ever.'

Aww, I think I'll keep that one :)

Re: HA!

I'm in the final stages of an interstate move and I bought an enclosed utility trailer to help with the odd and ends. Unfortunately, its roof leaks, so I have a big tarp tied to it.  We started to load the trailer this morning and my sister forgot that it wasn't connected to my Jeep. When she stepped on the back it tipped....

It has been raining buckets here and when the thing tipped, she fell to the ground and the rainwater dumped on her in a total deluge.

I held back laughing my apple off long enough to find out if she was hurt. We're still laughing!

In the ER because I passed out, but there's a silver lining: this is the best ER I've ever been to. It's clean, well-staffed, and the staff is cheerful and efficient. Since I just moved from a different state it's nice to know I at least have this to fall back on if I need medical attention.

Re: Making headway...

Some friends and I have started making short films...it started out as wanting to make a fan film for the Star Trek club they're in.  Learned a lot from the first one, turned around and did a second one...

Which is being screened as part of the film festival at the Salt Lake City ComicCon next month.  I know the guy who's in charge of the festival...if he felt our project was good enough to take a look at (even as a fan-film at a ComicCon), we did something right, because he's VERY picky about film and movies.

We're already starting to talk about a third one...that will lay the foundation for an on-going series of them, some of which will cross-over into fan films for some of the other Trek clubs in the region (because they've been helping us with ours), and we've also got basic scripts put together for two short films that are NOT fan films...

This is nice, for me, because I'm one of those 'easily bored with the same old thing' personalities and lately, more and more of my theatre work is starting to feel like 'the same old thing'. So, finding a new outlet for those creative impulses is a good thing.  Having them validated by a third party with no vested interest in our work?

That feels REALLY good.  Can't wait until it's screened...want to see if the audience has anywhere near as much fun watching it as we did making it.

Re: To New Chapters...

I've had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume pattern from the 90s that I bought on a whim a decade ago dirt cheap as part of a lot of patterns and have just had sitting in my pattern collection since.  I put it up for auction and it's already almost $40.

As with all collectibles, timing is everything.  Thank you Paramount for releasing the new movie right before Halloween costume season begins!

Re: To New Chapters...

This is a simple thing...and could almost as easily have been a minor vent.  But for whatever reason, I'm happy about it, rather than annoyed...

I just realized, earlier today, that I've been inadvertently lying to people about my age for several months, now.  I've been telling people for a while that I was 47...

A few weeks ago, I started having some nagging doubts about that, because the math didn't work out for the class reunion I'll be having in a couple of years...if my age calculations had been right, it would have meant I graduated high school at 19...and that just isn't the case.

Then, at work this afternoon, I realized that I was born in an even-numbered year...and this was an even-numbered year...which meant that my age had to be an even number for the math to work.  Call it an extended senior moment, or a months-long brain fart, I guess...but just to make sure I wasn't wrong, I counted again.  On my fingers.

46, not 47.  Not that it matters all that much...I tell people that you're only as old as you let yourself feel, which means, on any given day, I'm actually somewhere between 14 and 85...but most consistently, hover around my late 20's or early 30's.  But, still...not only do I not look as old as I really am, I'm also not as old as I thought.

Faith rewarded...

So, as per the vent I posted yesterday, some costume armor I made for someone wasn't going to be able to be paid for, because the guy was out of work.  But I told him, since he'd paid an advance on it (for materials) and it was made specifically for him, I'd hang onto the armor for a while and give him a chance to come up with the money fr it.

Got an email from him earlier today...he managed to come up with the remaining balance due on it.  That means that the vacation I'm taking later this month to Vegas, with some friends, isn't going to be as lean as I thought it was going to be (I was already going to be able to afford it, thanks to another job I did last month...but this just pads things a little bit so I'm not holding my breath every time someone says, "Where should we eat tonight?")

Pretty sure if I'd been a jerk about it, he wouldn't have bothered trying to get the money lined up right away.  And it's nice to have someone who's actually concerned enough about getting their costume that they're willing to come back after I said 'sorry, but I've been burned too many times by people who said they'd pay me later if I gave them the costume now.'  I have...if I totalled up all the costume projects I've done that I was supposed to get paid for and never did, I'm pretty sure I'd have at least $400-$500 in delinquent accounts.  Made me very leery of the phrase, "I'll pay you next time I see you..."

But this autumn just got a lot brighter for me...

Re: Faith rewarded...

My husband and I got married in Legend of Zelda t-shirts.

His: http://www.myteespot.com/images/Images_d/DSCF7456.jpg
Mine: http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/...gHf-vbW3CVqdOUVQ.jpg

Not what we wore to the ceremony, but minister presiding over the ceremony was in the Army, too. We all used to be in the same unit. We swapped so many stories that he hung out all night and missed somebody else's wedding later that day. Days later, we realized none of our legal documents were signed. When we finally tracked him down and had everything done up proper, we were wearing out Zelda shirts. I thought it was funny because these are our only matching shirts. We've got a bunch of other pop culture and souvenir shirts, we didn't tell each other what we were wearing and we didn't see each other all day until we met at the notary.

Last week, I tore my shirt and I just started crying. Today, I got a package in the mail for my birthday: a small box full of them. He says, "Just in case they stop making them before our Silver Anniversary."

Re: Faith rewarded...

Taking a three-day mini-vacation in Vegas with a group of friends this weekend.  The timing sucks...we start tech and dress rehearsals next week and open our Halloween shows next weekend...but I've been working there for a decade and a half, and this is the first vacation I've taken.  And it'll be a good reminder for my bosses about how much stuff they actually have me do, when I'm not there to do it for them and they have to find someone else...
