Re: Yay!

I decided that we needed a family dinner out last night.  We went to our usual family sit down place.  Dinner was great and we decided to splurge on desert.  Our thirteen year old son ordered pumpkin pie with lots of whipped topping.  His first huge bite slipped off of his fork and cascaded down his front leaving a white trail down his red shirt.  He looked down, then back up.  His comment?

"The pie dodged."

Re: Yay!

I went out to buy an inexpensive desk. Just somewhere to put my laptop and some books. I found a yard sale on Craigslist. Came home with an amazing oak, claw-foot sewing table. It's gorgeous. And when I move back home, I'll mount my Rocketeer* on it.

Re: Yay!

Touring show came to our park last week, and I've been having a grand old time doing a little of everything to help them get it up to speed.  Started out helping hang lights...then, somewhere along the line, someone told the director that I was a scenic artist, as well, and he had a couple of signs he needed made...and they have these wigs that a couple of the performers wear that have sailing ships on top of them, but the ships didn't tolerate traveling in a box well, so I rebuilt those (they were convinced the ships were a total loss...)  Reworked a light-stand prop for them, did some costume alterations, put fabric up to screen off the dressing rooms...helped them trouble-shoot one bit in their show that wasn't working...

When I was in college, my professors all kept pushing me to choose an emphasis so I could hurry up and get my degree...and I couldn't ever decide what I wanted my emphasis to be in, because I enjoyed ALL of it.  It's been a very long, very tiring week to get them open and running...but I feel kinda like a kid locked in a candy-shop after hours...*grin*

There's just something about hearing a new song on the radio, finding it on youtube, then abuse the replay button on it with headphones turned up.

Thank you so much for posting this notice! I would have missed it. I was able to gather up all my friends to watch. We had a little Premiere Party. We prepped with the Sailor Moon Movies last night and then started the day with the new show. It was a blast!

I really love The Rose of Versailles and Revolutionary Girl Utena, so I thought it was beautiful.

My cat Oreo has been missing for days.  We left to go camping over the weekend, and when we got home he wasn't there.  Three days of searching and calling the animal shelters in the area, nothing.

Oreo came home just a little while ago!  So happy ^_^

Re: Yay!

Time to celebrate the little victories...

For the first time EVER, I finished a round of golf with the same ball I had when I started.  My score was only marginally better than last time, but I normally lose two or three balls each round (I find more than I lose, which makes it difficult for me to get rid of all the crappy old golf balls I inherited with my dad's clubs...but it does save me a chunk of change on golf balls).  So, to go from the first tee to the last hole with the same ball?

I consider that a breakthrough event, of sorts.  I didn't even have to fish it out of a water hazard.

Re: Yay!

So Terry Goodkind announced the death of Richard Rahl. I really hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those things like what Zed did to Kahlan. I stopped reading the series at 6 or 7. It was a viscious circle. If it really is over, I'll be glad.

Re: Yay!

Put myself out on a limb today and pitched a couple of show ideas for our Halloween season to my boss.  No idea if we'll end up using them or not...but he liked the ideas, and agreed with a lot of what I said about why I opted to use what I did for them.

There's a lot of changes in the works for our department...if I can get myself positioned to be more involved with the creative end of things, so much the better.  I like our current artistic director, as an individual...but sometimes I feel like he's more worried about not doing something wrong than he is about doing something right.  And I feel like he's very often more worried about showing off the vocal abilities of the performers than he is in trying to engage the audience and get them into the show.  If the management shift involves people agreeing with my assessment, I'd be quite happy to have them thinking that I'm a good option to put together something with some solid audience appeal.

Time will tell...but the first move's been made, and if nothing else, my boss knows that I'm interested in doing more than just what they've been having me do for the last decade.  We'll see where it goes from here.

Re: Yay!

As I've been stressed out for the last few weeks with getting the family's move arranged, my teen daughter is (as I type) soaking my feet and giving me a pedicure.  This is after she brushed my hair and after the pedicure comes a facial scrub.

I don't know what she wants, but she's going to get it.  :)

I would say that Richard Lived On and Terry Goodkind is surely bound to have a reason for advertising his subsequent death other than money grubbing, but the implication sounds somewhat like slander. Basically the Sword of Truth kept repeating the same ol' "Richard loves Kahlan but in order to get back with her he needs bigger magic to fix the big magic he had caused in the last book" and presumably this 'big conclusion' is that he doesn't need to fix any more magic. Chances are though, with him advertising Richard's Death on his facebook page, he probably isn't going that route.

Don't get me wrong, it was still a better love story than Twilight for the first seven or 8 books.

Oh I got out several books before you then. The last book I read was the one where he made the sculpture.
