Not an auspicious kick-off

Started my summer break on Monday rather promisingly -- up at 7am to load up the truck and got that dump run done. Been wanting to do that for over a year, but need a friend to help with loading the heavy stuff. So, yay, done at last!

Come home eager for a shower to wash the sweat and dirt off, and... there's an odd sound coming from the bathroom as I approach. Oh, look, the line to the toilet is spraying water into the bathroom! I try to see if I can stuff it back down to stifle the flow... nope. I thoroughly excite it instead. Water is now spraying out with great enthusiasm.

Of course, I have to hastily pull clothes back on before I can run outside to the well and shut off the water to the property, so the bathroom's nicely flooded and soaking into the hall carpeting before I get it done.

Arrange for the plumber to come out. (I am NOT crawling under my house to get to that!) Plumber can come out today between 2-4. Okay, I can get through a day well enough. I know how to do camp baths, and while it's an awkward and inconvenient arrangment, I can still get water to single trough for the horses from the neighbor's line. Then the plumber's office calls this morning, they can come out at 1:30. Yay.

It's an "evaluation" visit....

Now the plumber will be back tomorrow to throw bug bombs under the house to drive out any rattlers, and return Thursday at 5am to actually fix the half inch T that corroded & broke.

It was inconvenient. Now it's something of a significant PITA. And did I mention I was allergic to pesticides? :P""""

Not an auspicious kick-off

These sorts of emergencies are why I learned to be a do-it-myselfer.  I'm not going to fork over cash and wait on someone else's schedule when I need something fixed NOW!!!!  That "evaluation visit" is blueberry schnitzel -- it's a simple fix that any plumber worth their rates should have been able to fix immediately.

This kind of repair is not really that difficult, and if you take a few pics of the problem and toddle on over to your nearest hardware store, they should be able to set you up with the supplies to fix it right quick.  You won't even need to solder anything -- they have something called sharkbite fittings that just press on to the stumps of the old pipes.  Cut out the bad piece with a pipe cutter, press on the new ones (I prefer color-coded PEX pipes so I can tell hot from cold lines at a glance), and presto!  You're back up and running for about $50, depending on how much pipe and how many fittings you need.

And I'm sure there are other ways to make sure there are no rattlers down there without waiting or using pesticides.

Good luck, whatever happens.

When my lights handle a hurricane just fine, but when it storms bad, my internet, my lights and my cable all decide to go on strike, or you know get scrambled and not work. -___-

Stolen Truck

Five minutes after I arrived at work today some guy drove off with my truck--hotwired it in broad daylight.  I bloody well watched them drive off-site with it.

I'm a Surveillance Manager.   So, I've got great footage and a couple of beautiful mug-shots.  But I still don't have my truck.

And all of this three days before I move across the country.

Stolen Truck

Thanks.  That pretty much echoes my feelings...

I'm told the RCMP recovered my truck.  Insurance is looking at whether it's worth bringing it back to my old city for me to try to sell it...  I'm a 14-hour drive away, though... So, it would all have to be done through proxies...  what a headache.

Having just been on a 12 hour trip (one way) to get my own car (Inheritance) I can sympathize with that feeling on getting the truck. At least that was some semi good news. Now if they can just get the rest of it.

Can everything just pause... just for a little while?

Sometimes I feel like there is literally not enough hours in the day to do what I want/need to do.  If I'd like to check on some fun stuff on the internet, chores aren't getting done.  If I do too many chores, I don't really have time to eat.  If I eat, then sometimes there isn't enough time to take a decent shower.  If I choose to update games or write my stories, I have to give up sleep.  If I read, it sure as snot better be at the same time as something else, because reading just for itself (aside from ten minutes before bed) is something I don't get to do often.

A little bit ago, someone on one of my social media feeds posted, "If you had the ability to stop time, what would you use it for?"  The top response, above all other infinite possibilities, was "sleep."  Seriously, I wouldn't mind staying up twenty hours if I just knew I could take a full eight hour's rest without having to sacrifice doing anything else.

Common problem for everyone - I suggest 3 showers a week if you can do it (ie don't have a job that includes sweat and dirt), lay out a period where eating and reading are workable. And remember Cat Naps are not just for cats.

I manage to get in reading, but I've been getting in a lot more since I found that I could download audio books from the library. Maybe you can too.

My teeth are not perfect. Especially the absessed one... the pain is not normally bad, but what really grinds me is how easy I get mad right now. I think it's messing with my blood pressure.

In short

I think it's messing with my blood pressure.

That's very possible, I believe.

I've a naturalist friend, whose advice is usually pretty sound, and swears that solutions #2, 4, and 6 (clove oil, peppermint, tea bags) as described on this page:

http://homeremediesforlife.com/abscess-tooth/  ...are all effective.   Not just for pain, but the infection itself, which is what you're having the issue with.    Others are suggested, as well.

Disclaimer-   my experience is only second-hand.

Peppermint has been proven (as per a book I read published in the 1950's) to stimulate regeneration of nerve endings in the brain. Also good for calming nerves and is found in many calming herbal tea mixtures.
(I have had several strokes, so anything I can do to heal my brain I have looked in to.)

I am checking out the link now, but so long as I am on antibiotics the pain is negligible. I might try some of those. For now the page is bookmarked thank you. And in retrospect lets change I think to I know because my blood pressure was about 20 higher then normal last I was checked. To add to the fun one of my coworkers think my ankle has a fracture in it. Woooot.

It's the blood pressure, headaches, and getting mad so easily that drive me up the wall. I am awaiting surgery, but this is my third round of antibiotics and I have a feeling a fourth is coming on.

I am sorry to come back to rpol finally only to have some health issues. >.<

Hmm... blood pressure, headaches, and easy to anger?  Do you have trouble with the bottoms of your feet?  If so, get your doctor to run a fasting blood sugar test on you.

Type II Diabetes is the most undiagnosed condition in America right now, and can masquerade as a myriad of seemingly unrelated symptoms.  I know because I am diabetic and knew something was wrong several years before my doctors did, I just didn't know what.

Do what it takes to take care of yourself.  We've only got one of you, you know.

Re: Can everything just pause... just for a little while?

The easy anger one made me think of that to. High blood sugar levels tend to shorten tempers. The headaches can help with that.
Also going to the bathroom more is a sign if it's gotten far enough along.
I would suggest a 5 hour Glucose Tolerance Test as they are more accurate than a 3 hour test many people do. Gives a better over all picture.
I went full on diabetic at 18 years old cause my doctors only did the 3 hour version and did not recognize all my symtoms back in the day (I am in my 50's now.)

I'd recommend having your HB1C checked as well.  That'll give you a window into how hi/low your average daily glucose runs.

You mean Hemoglobin A1C?  I've never seen a HB1C test in all my years as a diabetic.  Maybe I should ask about that?

It's a similar test and is still often referred to as an HA1C.  The methodology is similar but it's a more stable and accurate test.  I'm a Med Lab Tech so I occasionally nerd out over stuff like this.

I am so livid right now. Some bratty kids threw two lounge chairs and a whole bunch of towels in to the pool. If I find out who did it, they are getting kicked out.

Sadly it could have been done by 'adults'. I know a few otherwise grown up peoples who stoop to such things, usualy when alchol or missed medication is applied. (and sometimes just cause they are jerks at heart)

Yes, it very well COULD have been adults. However, when we've had the same group of brats running around the hotel, sliding on the tile like they're Tom Cruise, looking suspicious when hanging out around the market area, then basically disappear after their last trip to the pool before another guest reported the vandalism, it's a pretty safe assumption.
