Adjective Birthday! I didn't remember it was today, so I got you a llama. It's currently in transit. Should be there within 6-8 business years, if this FedEx tracking number can be believed.

Also, I have no idea what any of those things are, but congrats! :D

I don't know what any of those things are, AND I totally forgot your birthday as well. But you are welcome to the junk mail I got yesterday ... there might be a coupon for something useful there. Cheers !

I remember as a kid seeing the first Atari game system come out. Blocks shooting blocks, pong, so advanced technology. I look back at where we have come from and think, kids today are so lucky and most don't even know it.
Still I think they should have stopped at 2cd ed AD&D to...

I remember seeing some comment online once saying words to the effect of "Give people Pong and they'll eventually create Minecraft. Give people Minecraft and they'll use it to make Pong" :D.
I'm not quite old enough to remember Pong coming out but the main computer I still have memories of is the Atari ST...which actually is about a metre away from me right now though it hasn't been used for years. I use an emulator these days ;).

Sinclair ZX81 was my first.  1K of memory, which could be expanded up to 16K.  No colour, other than black, white and grey.

Another ZX-81 builder here, but my first was an old S-100 buss machine by SD Systems with an 8" Shugart floppy.  Got it in a swap.  Couldn't keep the bloomin' thing running for more than a week - voltage regulators kept going out on the boards, especially the memory board.  I had a drawer full of regulator chips I kept on hand (the chip was a 7805, I think?) just to make the repairs.

Gads, that was a while ago...

My first one, I don't recall the name, but the hard drive was the size of my tower now. Weighed in around 20 pounds and had like 2k memory. This was back in the 1970s. My step father brought it in from work and was showing it off to us (well he was not my step father back then, that came later.) I remember when Basic was the Only language out there (and I was so bad at programming it was like blackhole time.)

You mean the only non-engineer language out there. Assembly language was out there too, although I've forgotten almost everything I knew about it.

At the time I was playing around, pascal was just out and did not really come out to the public levels for a couple of years. I remember because my brother learned it in like a week. I remember when C++ hit to. My brother cracked all my video games and made them do things they were not supposed to be able to do. Me I just made the crash spectacularly.
It's no surprise he is a profession programmer these days.

Ahhhh, I miss my old Sinclairs. I only ever owned one console and that was an old Atari model that you could cheat on my wedging the switch between 'tennis' and 'football' in order to get an extra paddle in 'football', but I went from the ZX81 to the 48K to a 128K (integral tape deck baby!) to the almighty Amiga 500.

I still remember trying to cram people around the tiny keyboard to play the TRON Trails lightcycle game on the 81. ^_^

ZX81 to Amstrad CPC 464 (64K, integral tape deck, and colour display) to Amiga 1200 (later upgraded to a tower).

Good times...  Certainly a lot less cursing and swearing than the PC.  :p

The absolute worse computer I ever had was a x-mas present from my dad it was a Commodore 64. (some sales guy convinced him that it was an IBM computer. I had a long talk with him about how Sales people don't know anything more then how to Sell stuff, not the reality of what they are selling. As I was in sales at the time I knew what I was talking about.)
